laweaselmys · 23/01/2009 19:39

Congratulations Flannelcat!! Hope all is well with you and your dc and you get lots of rest, it must've been really stressful, sorry you didn't get the home birth you wanted.

dinny · 23/01/2009 20:22

wow, Flannelcat, congratulations! how much did your dd weigh - what a shock!

I've been getting crampy pains and backache all day - hope it's jst late-pg niggles and not early labour...

babyinbelly · 23/01/2009 20:45

hooray! the first baby. congratulations! The main thing is that she is here and well! Well done to you. Best wishes coming your way!

mum2b09 · 23/01/2009 22:43

evening ladies congrats flannelcat !!!
just wondered i know the baby kicking is suposed 2 b uncomfortable but does anyone find it painful i get the odd jab or two that really takes my breath away?? xxx

Sunshinesmith · 23/01/2009 23:05

Hi girls,

Been lurking in the background reading your post but almost not having any time to post- boo!

But all is about to change as I am finally on mat leave - no more commuting! Hurrrrrraaaaah!

Woo hoo, the first baby has arrived! Good vibes for Flannelcup- sorry cannot offer any advice-

Haven;t packed my bag yet but i think I will crack on this weekend!

This is my second one and I am def feeling him/her moving much more than with my first one. He/she is kicking like there is no tomorrow- the worst kicks are the low kicks near my pubic bone and bladder- auch!!!! On my last midwife app she mentioned that she thought the head was already down but dunno if She was a 100% sure.

Well, ladies hopefully I will get chatting more to you in the coming weeks!

Have a lovely weekend! xx

My tummy feels very tight it is quite painful, braxton hicks have kicked in... auch!

ellenjames · 23/01/2009 23:10

hi can i join haven't seen this before! I am due 24th march with dc3. Hace dd3 and ds2. Dont know the sex, as never like to find out! Am being monitored a little xtra as ds was 10lb3 and have spd again but other than that am fine! Have scan on mon to check baby growth!

lizziemun · 24/01/2009 06:54

mum2b09

Yes the baby kicking can be getting painfull now.

I'm also getting that painful 'boney elbow' and the clawing like it's trying to scatch it way out . I hate this stage.

twocutedarlings · 24/01/2009 08:45

Wow Congratulations Flannelcat welcome to the world little Flannelcat .

How are you?? although i havent had a prem baby, my DD1 was very ill a birth and was also on NICU, so i do know just how draining and stressfull the NICU routine is (((((hugs))))).

mum2b09 Yes lots of painfull kicks/punches?? here to!! mainly under my ribs.

ellenjames Welcome

We have loads of new additions, i will update our list and add you all on at some point this weekend.

So if there are any LURKERS out there that would to join us please come out!! so that I can add you too LOL

meep · 24/01/2009 09:17

wow - congratulations flannelcat - enjoy your little girl

Also have a very tight bumo with lots of wriggling and some painful kicks under my ribs. Like sunshine this is my second and I am sure this one kicks more than dd did!

lizzie hope you're okay - what a difficult time for you - lots of unMN hugs winging their way to you.

Still haven't packed my hospital bag, found the newborn babygrows, bought maternity pads.

Not sure if I've asked before but has anyone used normal winged super strength pads instead of the maternity pads - wings would be so much better - is there a reason they have to be mat pads?

Have my 32week MW appointment next week - quite curious as to where the baby is lying as I feel like it is going to fall out too!

corgi - really sorry to hear what has happened in Belgium - haven't read that much as it makes me sob uncontrollably and want to hug dd and never let her go (which she was not amused by as she wanted to watch Teletubbies!)

meep · 24/01/2009 09:21

that should be bump - though bumo is quite descriptive too

Slickbird · 24/01/2009 11:07

Wow, what a lot of postings since I last looked in, and so many newbies! Welcome Y'all!!

Goldmother Vitamin K is usually given after the baby is born and is to prevent a condition that can cause newborns to bleed (out their nose, internal bleeding etc) It's to help with clotting. Highly recommended - and has never caused any problem with my two. Hope this helps.

Thanks too for the supportive messages when I was feeling pretty down on Thursday. It's just been a tough week, but am feeling better now and will feel even better when I stop having to yell at my 8 year old for never listening to a bloody word I say and being fed up of having to ask her a MILLION times to do something! Arrgh, the frustration!!!! ANYWAY! Like I say, better now and I have a massage booked at Noon today so am sure that will help greatly!

Meep Yes, our little ones are around the same age - DD2 was born in Sept 07 so she's 16 months now - and finally walking really well. She seems to have gotten through the worst of this week which has involved a searing temp, teething and a cold. Oh the joys!

As for what has happenend in Belgium, Oh God, WHY WHY WHY? I just don't understand it. If someone goes on the rampage like that WHY do they take it out on babies and children and HOW can they? I mean I know they're obviously sick in the head, but why little ones? My heart really goes out to all the families and staff.

Anyway, on a more positive note a HUGE congratulations to Flannelcat and her little FlannelKitten! It must be a difficult time her being in the NICU but I hope she continues to do well and it won't be long before you have her home. The first baby of the team!! xx

lolianja · 24/01/2009 12:03

Just catching up on the myriad posts I've missed. Congratulations on your baby FlannelCat, hope she's doing well and hope you're fighting fit again asap.

Am now around the 35 week mark. Head was engaged a month ago but seems to have bobbed up a bit again (grrr). I'm still "all baby" (ducks rotten tomatoes) and bump is still nice and compact with no stretchmarks which allows me to dare to hope that it'll remain thus right up until birth time. Unfortunately I've been suffering from very draining relationship issues (sorry about the me me me) but am determined not to let this get in the way of the final month of my pregnancy and am just hoping it will all resolve itself soon.

Despite head engagement etc am still banking on a late arrival for her!

jollyjoanne · 24/01/2009 12:47

Congrats to Flannelcat and kitten hope you are both doing well x

Welcome to all the newbies who seem to have joined since my last post.

Only five more days of work left and annoyingly still absolutely loads to do!

But feeling OK about the baby she should be well catered for when she arrives.

Off to the midwife on Tues, so should find out how the baby is doing then, but although the hesad was engaged almon my balbost 4 weeks ago, the bump doesn't really appear to have moved downwards - her feet and bottom are really digging into my ribs and causing loads of aches and pains. Whilst her head is putting loads of weight on my bladder meaning I need to go the loo everytime I stand up.

Anyway enough hogging the page. Hope everyone has a nice weekend x

jollyjoanne · 24/01/2009 12:49

not sure what happened to my spelling there - should be 'the head was engaged amost 4 weeks ago'

dinny · 24/01/2009 13:03

Meep, they have to be mat pads due to the, er, volume of blood

you cna get wings ones too though

MKG · 24/01/2009 13:04

Wow a lot happened in a short amount of time!

Congrats Flannelcat! I hope your dd is doing well, and she goes home soon.

I guess we need to start a birth stats list and all newbies feel free to add yourselves to the still due list (or a more organized person who shall remain nameless can do it for you)

My hospital always gives me plenty of pads, and by the time I need to buy them I use the one's with wings. The first 3 days I think are the worst blood loss wise, and then it kinda becomes more of a really heavy period.

Biggest advice--Do not stand up after giving birth without someone helping you preferrably someone with a strong stomach. I don't know what I would have done without dh there to clean up my clots that fell on the floor. Sorry TMI, but his is the part of childbirth no one tells you about.

OP posts:
lolianja · 24/01/2009 15:06

MKG - thank you. I'm pretty clued up on childbirth and thought I was aware of just about every aspect of it that it's commonly acknowledged that they don't tell you, but I wasn't 100% aware of that. Have to bear it in in mind!

@jollyjoanne - my bump, despite engagement, isn't particularly low down either. I'm unable as yet to empathise with the bowling-ball-between-legs sensation. Glad to have found another in a similar position!

dinny · 24/01/2009 15:27

the head can be engaged and then not, btw...

MKG · 24/01/2009 15:40

Oh no problem .

hedgewitch that's brilliant really pleased that you can relax a bit now and not be worrying about the money.

laweasel I was given iron tablets and they made me really ill, I'm having Spatone now having seen a lot of MN posters saying it works for them. So far so good no side effects, so if you get any it might be worth a try.

Nothing new to report here, I'm feeling a bit stressed and agitated with work and with family at the moment but I am sure it is partly hormonal and compeletely normal for pregnancy!

laumiere · 25/01/2009 12:32

Happy Sunday everyone!

Am finding my little monkey is being super-wriggly at the moment....he's settled into a head-down position but can't decide which was to face!

Woke up with him in a posterior position back to back with me (ouch!), and in 4 hours he's gone left anterior, straight anterior and is now right anterior! My placenta is at the front this time which may be causing all the wriggles but it's getting kind of silly now :-)

twocutedarlings · 25/01/2009 15:00
