Here's our new thread ladies.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
laweaselmys · 25/11/2008 14:57

I like Nico - Not so sure about the others, but I prefer short names, especially if you are only going to use the nickname of it.

By the way check out the beautiful dress I bought! preeetty I have to go to a big formal party in January and obviously none of my dresses fit - but managed to get this off ebay, for half price and new! Very exciting.

LittleBok · 25/11/2008 15:27

Love that Preeety website, some really nice things on there...

Thanks for the advice Wheely Bug on Kingston, I did wonder if you could just go up there and ask to be on a monitor. Our 28 week MW appointment falls on Christmas Eve so I'm hoping for a nice 4 weeks from now with no more worries!

Now new subject, I've decided on a water birth............reactions? Two friends, both at Kingston, had a great experience, I've done a bit of reading and thought I'd be much more relaxed in a nice big bath!

lizziemun · 25/11/2008 15:33

Not been around for a few days as dd1 bought home 'the winter vomiting bug ' last thursday and we have all had it. I can hardly move where i have pulled all the muscle in my back and stomach {sorry if tmi).

Anyway as for names we all right if bump is a boy as dh wants to name after his dad (Robert). If it is another girl we don't know we have dd1 Elizabeth Anne and dd2 Alexandra Grace. l like Charlotte Rose but dh refuses to discuss name until after christmas.

grinningbee · 25/11/2008 15:33

Nico is a nice name.

DH had already said if we have a girl he'd love to call her Amy. If it was a boy he would have been Jack. I've picked the middle name Florence as it is/was both our mums middle name (spooky). I did draw the line at Daniel for a middle name if it had been a Jack.... although DH's favourite tipple is Jack Daniels I couldn't do that to a nipper!

I'm still trying to get used to the name Amy (why do I keep thinking Amy Winehouse though???) although I do keep trying to call bump by her name.

She had some serious wriggles on her yesterday after my bath, I was laying on the bed and watched my tummy moving! It was a really weird/lovely moment. It's the first time she's moved around so much that I could see properly. Reminded me so much of the film Alien.... hahahaha! DH put his hand on her last night and she kept booting his fingers.

AmyO · 25/11/2008 16:10

well grinningbee, i think Amy is a marvellous choice (for obvious reasons ) and it means 'beloved' which is quite nice.

dress is lovely laweasel and lucky you that you could get away with wearing it! with my currently enormous and not-so-perky boobs that bandeau bit at the top would end up looking like a rather large belt! (sorry if tmi!)

spoke to HR btw and all good. i can advise them when i want the leave to start now and as soon as i get the MATB1 form to them they will send me a letter confirming dates.

it won't muck up my pay or anything, though they did think it strange that the GP wouldn't give it to me now. going to call and try to get it tomorrow as i want my dates in writing!

apparently (sth i didn't know but is fairly obvious i guess), as soon as you have the letter/email of confirmation from HR, it acts as a written contract and they have to pay you your maternity pay whatever happens - good news for me as was worried about possible redundancy early next year!

also, if there is a reshuffle and you have to reapply for another job in the company whilst preg. or on mat. leave and another person goes for it who is not preg. or on mat. leave, you would be given first refusal for the job. good stuff eh?

(sorry about the essay, just very relieved that it looks like it will all work out at last!)

goldmother2b · 25/11/2008 16:46

littlebok I quite fancy the idea of a waterbirth too - although were you aware that your DP would have to fish out any stray poos that sneak out when you are pushing with a little fishing net?
Will have to break that gently to my DH!

Names wise, I am currently fancying Xanthe and Chloe - not got as far as middle names yet - any thoughts on these?

emma2617 · 25/11/2008 16:49

goldmother I LOVE Xanthe!

titmouse · 25/11/2008 19:19

I had my 22 week appt today (a week late) and my new midwife is horrible, seriously thinking about going to the local MLU rather than a home birth cos if she was attending to it I'd want to push baba out soon as poss to get her out of my house! Miserable old bag she was. The other two temporary ones were lovely.

Anybody else here from the Oxford area?

Wheelybug · 25/11/2008 19:21

Great names everyone - corgi Patrick was originally on our list for boys but dh doesn't like pat/paddy as shortened forms so we have scratched that. Also DH's consultant is called Patrick which I think is putting him off .

Lovely dress law - there's so many lovely maternity dresses around now. When I was pg with dd (4 years ago) I really struggled to get a nice dress for my brother's wedding. NOw it seems shops have caught on to the idea of pregnant women going out and enjoying themselves !!

Littlebok - I like the idea of labouring in a pool. They didn't have htem at Kingston when I had dd, not that I would have been allowed near them. I suspect I won't be allowed this time either because they are in the Malden Suite and think it is off limits because I had a complicated first delivery. Hmm... I'll try asking though (but you might get there before me !)!

meep · 26/11/2008 06:45

Morning everyone - keep your name ideas coming as we're without inspiration here! We have our boys name (Alexander - family name and only one me and dh can agree on) but are stumped on a girls name if we have another dd! The only one that made us both smile was daisy but we just can't call the baby that because of dd's obsession with In The Night Garden - poor bub would end up as "DaisyDoo" - aaaaggghhhh!

Love the dress laweasel - alas my ankles are huge so dresses are out for me. Went to a discount shopping night at Harvey Nichols last night and had to leave because a) too many braying women b) couldn't drink the free champagne and cocktails and c) could feel all the moisture in my body descending to my ankles - ugh!

Littlebok - I have slept on my tummy in both my pregnancies - basically until I physically wasn't able to any more - then I would find I slept on my back which is probably even worse! Dd is fine - think they just wriggle into a more comfy position if you are squashing them!

A friend of mine had a water birth and she said it was amazing - her dh was in there with her too!

I spent a lot of time in the bath when I was in labour with dd - it does ease any pain though it can slow things down a bit. I just remeber lying there like a beached whale (and moo-ing every 6/7/8/9/minutes!) while my dh fed me toast and jam - very surreal.

Slickbird · 26/11/2008 09:11

Wheely I LOVE the name Isla and would use it only we have an Eilidh and feel it's too similar. Our DD2 is Carla and we thought she was going to be a Jack! Now we think according to the scan that we are having a boy, we can't decide at all. I like Seth but not sure with our last name and unfortunatley DH isn't too sure. So that leaves Stevie-Rae Bump nameless. (Our last name is Vaughan and DH is a guitarist and joking said we could call him Stevie-Rae so now that's the bumps nicname).

S'no easy.

Am back at work tomorrow and nervous about how tired I'll be. The sinusitus is only just starting to clear and OMG my f*nny bone is SOOOO sore now it'll take me ages to waddle from the station to work! The more walking I do the worse it gets too. But I really need to go back. Oh well, only 13.5 weeks to go. Not that I'm counting.

Slickbird · 26/11/2008 09:12

That's not 'funny bone' BTW.

corgikelly · 26/11/2008 09:31

Thank you for clarifying, because I really thought it was! And hence could NOT figure out how one's elbow figured into walking...

Mandy73 · 26/11/2008 10:25

Titmouse I'm in Oxford, under East Oxford healthcare/midwives - so far so lovely! Sorry to hear you have a miserable one. All the specialists at the Radcliffe have been fab too. We live close to Cowley Road. Where are you?

Loving the name discussions.

laweaselmys veeery preeetty indeed!

Had uterine artery doppler scan yesterday - it was normal! We're over the moon. Finally beginning to think this can really happen.

Hope everyone has a good day.
xx

Slickbird · 26/11/2008 10:28

LOL Corgi

Mandy - Fantastic news! Hope it's all plain sailing from here on in for you. (((hugs)))

laweaselmys · 26/11/2008 11:24

Huzzah for Mandy!! Tis nice after all the stress that you are getting good news now.

Went back to work this morning after being off for two days and still feel a bit pants, but well enough to work. Is it a bit sad that I'd rather be more ill (in a non-threatening way to either me or Jr) so I can have more time off and inside in the lovely warm??

MKG · 26/11/2008 12:32

MOrning all. I am absolutely exhausted today and I just rolled out of bed. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I am not looking forward to spending my day cooking and cleaning, and basically going crazy.

Mandy--congrats on everything being ok. Now enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

On the name front the only name we can agree is Eleodora Shannon. Eleodora is dh's mom's name and Shannon is my sisters middle name. I don't love it, but at least we agreed on something until I can think of anything else.

OP posts:
Mandy73 · 26/11/2008 15:57

Thank you so much for the nice words!

MKG happy thanksgiving!
Must remember to say it to MIL too, being a lovely American lady and all.
Don't break your back - can't you cheat?

xx

laweaselmys · 26/11/2008 16:08

Apparently the reason I have been ill is that I had a symptomless urine infection which travelled to me kidneys as it was untreated - and has made me fevery, vomit and generally be in pain. Oh well, at least I have the drugs to make me better now.

Mandy73 · 26/11/2008 16:36

Oh no laweaselmys poor you! Didn't realize you'd had it so rough.
I had the same thing a few weeks back but luckilly a MW diagnosed it over the phone - wasn't like normal cystitis, more like horrible tummy cramps. Easy to get in PG, not good for baby at all. Hooray for antibiotics.
xx

laweaselmys · 26/11/2008 16:39

That was thing - had no cystitis symptoms at all, so it was a bit inevitable it was going to get much worse before I noticed anything was wrong!

Never mind, though, I got my wish for a few more days off work...

Slickbird · 26/11/2008 19:34

God pregnancy! It's just one thing after another hey? You hear of these people who just sail through it and then some of us seem to get everything under the sun!! Glad you got a diagnosis at last Laws - hope the anti-b's kick in soon.

I wish I knew what was leaving me stuck in sinusitus hell. Have been in such a grump over it today as my nose bleeds when I blow it as I've been blowing it all year with back to back colds from bambino, then hayfever and then PG related sinusitus and then hellish cold. My poor nostrils are three times the size they were and that's no good thing as they were big enough already!

I am now SOOOOOO desparate to get through the next three months, with DD2 kicking off all the time I just am finding this tough.

Anyway, moan over. Sorry.

corgikelly · 26/11/2008 22:24

Hurrah for good news, mandy! I have fingers crossed my next scan will show equally good news.

I confess to having been one of those women sailing through pregnancy, slickbird...not a moment of illness, life toodling along as normal...until last week. When the ONE symptom I wanted above all others to avoid suddenly showed up. Yes. Hemorrhoids.

I finally went to see my GP today, because I'm really at the end of my tether, and she not-so-comfortingly said, "it's gonna get worse before it gets better - all that pushing during delivery will really wreak havoc." Great. Thanks.

She did give me something that I'd never heard of before - Daflon. It's an oral med apparently designed to strengthen vein tonicity and reinforce one's small blood vessels. I am PRAYING it works, because I'm not sure I can go through another four months of this.

emma2617 · 27/11/2008 08:38

oh dear corgi...I have yet to experience the piles...and am really hoping i manage to avoid them all together!!

Is anyone else starting to get tired all over again?! The bone crushing fatigue of "early" pregnancy took ages to leave me, i had it until about 17/18 weeks! And I was just getting used to being able to function but it seems to be creeping back

slickbird I know what you mean about people who seem to sail through!! Although I must appear like that to outsiders as I only seem to be suffering mainly from immense tiredness and SEVERE emotional issues (extreme anger, crying at the drop of the hat, swining from the happiest Ive ever been to feeling like crap in 2 seconds flat! And all round not coping!!) Oh yeah...and I share your nasal problems!! I have allergic rhinitis so was snotty and bunged up to begin with so this perpetual cold has only made it worse, plus the fact I seem to have become allergic to my own cats!!!!!!

Anyway...I suppose I better get back to work!

titchy77 · 27/11/2008 12:53

So pleased for you mandy, hopefully you can enjoy the rest of pregnancy.

I am certainly not sailing through pregnancy, my skin is dreadful, i'm exhausted all the time, my (.)(.) are huge and rapidly heading south and to top it all I have been getting painful bits so i had a look this morning and it looks like I have some huge varcoise(sp?) veins just on the top of the insides of my legs so I presume this is whats causing me the pain, i am too to ask my midwife so may just suffer in silence!!
Am off to the hospital today for growth scan and to see consultant, so will catch up later.
