dinny what a horrible thing to have to go through for you and your family - I really hope everything works out okay for you.

I now have a proper ledge at the top of my bump - as my lovely dh said - "that would be great to rest your pint on" ! Luckily t
I have not had any lager cravings this time round - with dd it was summer and they kept showing adverts with cold glasses of lager - oh how I wanted that lager .

Felling very tired now that I have gone back to work. Trying not to stress but it's easier said thn done. The girl who was meant to be taking over half my caseload (a very safe pair of hands) has now been told she might be going on secondment - and they still don't know who is doing the other half.

On top of this I have to meet a family in a negligence case about their baby - and I am looking so pregnant that I just hope it doesn't upset them (or me - with you on the sobbing hormones slickbird)- I had hoped to be able to pass it over before now.

Only 7 weeks to go - but wish it was now!

Interested to hearthebaby shower stories - we just don't seem to do that up here in Scotland.

Slickbuird - tried opening my coat on the bus on Friday - still no luck! But I make a big show of rubbing my bump when I do finally get a seat !

Slickbird · 10/01/2009 09:29

meep That sounds like it will be a tough case for you and the clients at work? It's a shame there is no-one else to handle it. I can imagine it would stir up all sorts of emotions on both sides.

As for still not getting a seat - Being a negligence lawyer, you may have more spark than me to get someone to shift their bloody arse or threaten to sit on them? People should be bloody ashamed of themselves.

Well I still never heard back from my "Dynamic new MW" so I'm not happy. I should have had an appt by now. I think she's pissed off that I won't take the time off work to go to her clinic, but as I work mornings and have to travel into Edinburgh, it would mean taking a whole morning off just for a 20 min appt - and I've been off enough quite frankly. She was meant to let me know when I could go to another afternoon clinic on Monday, but nothing. I'm sure if I was a drinking, smoking, smack-head I would have had plenty of attention. Does that sound bitter...?

Happy weekend y'all!

Slickbird · 10/01/2009 09:36

BTW Ceedub I read that article and the findings don't really surprise me. My friend's SIL who lives in Boston had to go back to work only 3 months after having twins! There can't be many of us are ready to go back that soon, so for once, at least the UK is better on that front! If only we could have the same deals on childcare that some of the Nordic countries have. But then it would cost us a tenner for a pint....

titmouse · 10/01/2009 09:58

Hi everybody, this thread has been really busy this week! I just caught up on you all

Our baby is still transverse so I am hoping he/she doesn't get too comfortable in that position!

I've seen yet another midwife, that is 4 different ones so far, not seen the same one twice yet. I find this a little disconcerting as I am planning to HB and was hoping to form at least a cursory relationship with whoever will be attending, or certainly enough rapport to be able to properly discuss it when it gets a little nearer, but I am rapidly losing hope of this. I've asked a very good friend to come and be a birthing partner, partly because I don't have much faith in this midwife team, but mainly so that we have some support when the time comes. My husband travels away a lot and if I go into labour too early he won't be here so I am glad to have somebody else waiting for a frantic phone call!

In all my dreams the baby is a boy, I don't know if this is because we feel strongly it is a boy or if it is my body TELLING me it is - anybody else had experiences in previous births of not knowing the sex but dreaming what it is??

titmouse · 10/01/2009 10:04

oh and I forgot to say - anybody that remembers a little while ago I posted that some women at work really upset me by saying my bump was small but my arse was massive - well another colleague topped that this week, he told me I was definitely getting a moon face. I was pretty shocked! I didn't get upset this time though, getting used to people saying whatever they like about my appearance with no forethought for my feelings!!

ceedub · 10/01/2009 11:09

Hi titmouse, I know exactly what you mean - receptionist at clinic the other day exclaimed 'wow, you've got the smallest bump I've ever seen for someone at 32 weeks" which was NOT very reassuring. Of course, when MW actually measured, bump was 33cm - so absolutely fine. But it is amazing how people can be so insensitive - even other mothers (though perhaps they can be the worst because they're more influenced by their own memories of what it was like iyswim).

and as for puffy face/ankles/everywhere else...what do people expect? We've been carrying a baby round for months without getting any sleep and with 25% extra blood pumping round our bodies...! Can't wait for when dp has to carry beanie around for a change (not that he's being anything other than good about telling me how 'glowing' i look..don't see it myself!

lizziemun · 10/01/2009 11:30

I would be inclined to be rude back Something along the lines of a least this time next year i'll be back to my normal size, but you will still look the same.

MKG · 10/01/2009 12:23

I guess now is not the best time to announce that I've lost 4 pounds.

OP posts:
lizziemun · 10/01/2009 12:56

Don't worry MKG i've found it .

dinny · 10/01/2009 13:17

thanks all, am feeling a bit better today - will await letter from the Heart Hospital and see what they say...

God, agree totally about the comments from EVRYONE about bump size - I either get "you are massive" or "you are are tiny" - actually, am average as measuring 32 at 32 weeks, lol

meep · 10/01/2009 13:18

MKG!

I was told I looked huge on Friday - but the lovely who said that then realised that it sounded awful and that she just meant that my bump had taken off over Christmas! I just find it hard being compared to a 1st time pregant lady I work with who is 6 weeks behind me - of course I am bigger - d'uh!

titmouse I've never had any boy/girl baby dreams but I was convinced that dd was a boy and told the whole operating theatre that dd was a boy even when they showed us her bits !

dinny · 10/01/2009 13:23

MKG! missed that post! is that your low-GI eating plan?

MKG · 10/01/2009 14:01

Dinny-I think it is. I've also stopped eating off of dinner plates and started eating from salad plates. That has helped with portion control a lot, not to mention the indigestion.

I also think being sick has played a part in it.

laumiere · 10/01/2009 15:37

Hi all, I was asked today if I was interested in paintballing! I pointed out I was 7 months pregnant and he said 'oh I just though you were a bit fat'!

31w 4d today, DS1 arrived at 31w 5d so suffice to say I'm a bit nervous at the moment!

titmouse · 10/01/2009 15:50

oh my goodness laumiere, if you go into labour this weekend be sure to report it here I can't believe the paintballing bloke said that to you!! well I can, cos it looks like we are all finding out that people just say what they like when you're pregnant.

meep your comment made me laugh, was it a difficult adjustment to your little girl after being convinced she was a boy?

I've just had a lovely visit from a dear friend, her husband and their 6 month old, I don't really know any babies and it has got me all excited, she was gorgeous.

Wheelybug · 10/01/2009 17:14

Hi All !

Just to add to the insulting comments list - another pre-school mother told me I was looking bigger than a friend who is at 40 weeks and that I was carrying so low it would be round my knees soon. Thanks.

Just been to an active birth preparation class which was v. informative and makes it seem like this might be happening soon !

Dinny - I hope the hospital can give you either the necessary checks soon or the necessary reassurances. It must be a worry for you.

Laumiere - This must be a strange time for you. Here's hoping the baby stays put for you for a while longer.

MKG · 10/01/2009 17:36

All these insults flying around for you guys. You are totally killing my idea of polite Brits.

OP posts:
meep · 10/01/2009 18:06

titmouse - no adjustment at all - I was besotted as soon as I saw her wee face peeking out of the blanket - the rush of love can be incredible

meep · 10/01/2009 18:06

MKG - polite Brits

MKG · 10/01/2009 18:21

Well here we get the impression that the British are always so polite and proper.

Because for some of those comments you all are getting would either get some choice words, or a punch in the face here.

The only bad comment I got was a few months ago. A woman came into work and as we were chatting she asked how far along I was, I think I was about 4 months at the time. She told me that her dil that was due a month before me and she was much smaller than I was. I looked at her, and asked if what her dil's first baby, she said yes and told her straight out. "Well when she gives birth to 3 babies within 3.5 years and works full time we'll see how wonderful she looks".

laumiere · 10/01/2009 18:38

Don't worry, if DS2 arrives this weekend you'll all be among the first to know! At the moment just BH to report .

MKG · 12/01/2009 13:16

Good morning everyone!! Where are you all at today?

Well I was officially 32 weeks yesterday. Then the reality set in. 32 weeks, ds1 was born at 38 weeks and ds2 was born at 39+4. So I figure 8 more weeks tops. Holy crap, 8 months pregnant.

So the car seat is ready to go in the car. I started packing my bag, I've located all the new baby items in the house so now it's a question of getting them out, cleaned and ready to go, which will take about a day.

I want to be done with everything before 36 weeks so I can sit on my ass and wait.

jollyjoanne · 12/01/2009 13:16

Sorry to bring the town down, but I am suffering with the most enormous pain in the arse (pile)! ewghhh! So have been feeling quite sorry for myself all weekend.

I think the people I work with must be much nicer than the average - everyone just says I am glowing - but I definitely do have the moonface and swollen hands thing going on - so I do think they are just being polite rather than accurate. But I do definitely have an enormous bump - I don't think it could be mistaken for fat (although I imagine there is still time for me to find out).

Dinny really sorry to hear about your potential heart problems. I am possibly be in a similar situation although I am presuming not as serious as yours, my dad had a heart bypass a few years back and obviously heart disease is hereditary but not in the same ways as your family's illness. But at the start of the month my younger sister has had an ECG because she also has heart problems already. I have my fingers crossed that it is nothing too serious as she is expecting her results soon.

laumiere · 12/01/2009 14:20

Well ladies, I am officially more pregnant today than I've ever been before! This LO has now been cooking 24 hours longer than his big brother, and long may it continue.....

Seriously though, there is no describing the relief, I'm actually starting to think I might make it to 37 weeks or even 40! 32 weeks tomorrow.

MKG · 12/01/2009 14:36

Congrats for you laumiere! Just think now you will be bigger than you ever have been before
