Congrats Laumiere - that must be such a relief !

Sorry to hear about hte pain in the bum JollyJoanne - have you tried the usual remedies ? My yoga teacher recommends linseed (the actual seeds - its a bit bizarre but not as bad as you would imagine) in a glass of water or on porridge to help things, ahem, pass more easily.

MKG - I suddenly had a reality check this morning. Have been thinking I have 8.5 weeks to go and then thought to myself - well I only made it to 37 with dd and although she was enforced early and I don't currently have the same problems, the root of the problem was probably pre-eclapmsia so there's still a chance of that (or any other problems) meaning I will have an elective c-sec which could mean a week or two early. Suddenly it all seems v. close. Which is a relief I think.

Hedgewitch - sorry you've had the need to be signed off but pleased you have if its necessary IYSWIM !

Slickbird · 12/01/2009 15:26

MGK - OMG no! We're all pretty sarcastic and esp in Scotland, you have to be able to take (and give) a good teasing. I was my normal self when I went to Wales (DH Welsh) and my God, I offended a lot of people there without meaning to! I think our delivery can be a bit deadpan - would you agree Meep?

I too have a "Moonface" thing going on but I don't give a bugger. I've lost count how many people have said "Oh you're very neat" and looked at me in shock when I've told them how far on I am. But that doesn't mean I don't feel like I'm lifting a giant weight around and feel like I resemble the back end of a bus.

Speaking of transport - I was stuck on the train this morning for 2 HOURS!!!! It's normally a 15 min journey but a train up ahead broke down and that was it. 2 bloody hours. I actually coped a lot more calmly than I normally would have done,(Claustriphobic) but I think, given I had a seat and there weren't tonnes of people standing, helped - that would have been really hellish. I didn't have any water tho and of course all I could think about was the fact I was thirsty! By the time I got to work it was practically time to come home!! Still, this is my last week. Just sorting out the Mat Allowance forms (which are a verbally ambiguous nightmare) finishing decorating the kitchen and wondering how I can tackle the next bit of tiling without causing immense sciatic pain like it did on Saturday.....

Later ladies!

Slickbird · 12/01/2009 15:32

Oh meant to say, that the Dynamo that is my new MW still never got back to me so I got my friend who's a great MW to check me over yesterday and the baby is head down and measuring at 33cm as he should be so that's great. She's coming over one eve this week to take my bloods and fill in my notes, in the absence of the other one.

auntyspan · 12/01/2009 18:26

Hi ladies!

On the subject of becoming waterlogged - what are we all wearing on our feet? I'm really struggling bending down to do shoelaces etc up cos I'm getting so fat, and my feet are swelling by the day - I need something I can wear with jeans. Any suggestions?

I am seriously thinking of getting the MW to get me signed off for a week - I can't face my commute anymore. I know it's doing me good to keep active but I hate being bumped and jostled all the time.

Struggling with trapped wind at the moment - gaviscon doesn't help - anyone have any tips?

DH has put the laminate down in the baby's room today and it looks GREAT. We've got a big rug arriving at the end of the week too, and now I can start filling all the shelves etc with baby things. Very exciting!

dinny sorry to hear you're going through it at the moment, will keep fingers crossed.
laumiere glad to hear your lo is hanging on - keep your legs crossed for a bit longer
MKG v jealous re: weightloss, have very little appetite at the moment but still gaining although I suspect due to water more than anything else.

Hope everyone else is OK.

I'm still in lace ups, tbh. Hope I don't have a shoe dilemma before I finish work (four and a half weeks to go...) or I've got no idea what I will wear! if I needed new shoes I would definately go for something like this though

I'm a bit scared about how much work I have to do before I finish for ML though - I haven't applied for my Maternity Allowance yet (waiting on paperwork) and I have to finish a course, including doing some coursework for my job before I go. Can't wait to finish and be able to concentrate on preparing for the baby!

babyinbelly · 12/01/2009 22:56

Hi all,

Re shoes- I have some ugg type boots that are so comfy but I do struggle to put them on/take them off. I have to sit down to do it so once they are on I leave them on as long as possible. Luckily DS age 2 helps and DP does sometimes!

Every time I come home from work I sit down for half an hour and cant walk! Sciatica type pain. I have to shuffle round the house and cant bend down because I actually get stuck in that position.

Glad that everyones babies are still in place so far. They must be cooking nicely now!

meep · 13/01/2009 06:29

Ah the shoe problem - was so easy in summer because I lived in flip-flops - but I refuse to wearflip flops and socks ! I've got a pair of Sketchers with no laces that I live on and a very fetching pair of comfotable balck flat shoes for work - my feet seemto have gone up a size as well - fingers crossed they return to normal as I have so many shoes I want to wear again!

babyinbelly - I have the same problem as you - very bad lower back pain that can leave me hobbling around in agony. Mine has eased off as the physio said my dh had to do everything (or so I told him) - so he has been on nappy duty for dd all weekend and has carried her about so mine has eased a bit. Lots of pelvic floor exercises are meant to help though I keep forgetting to do them - oops!

slickbird totally agree with you on teh Scottish sarcasm thing. I have had non-Scots remark on how mean we all are to each other - I tried to explain that sometimes extreme sarcasm actually means you really like someone! Luckily my kiwi dh had loived with Scots before he met me so he gets it! Eek re your train journey!

law - I have so much work to do as well - have been up since 5am - work stress just keeps me awake. 7.5 weeks to go before it becomes someone elses problem though - woohoo!

laumiere so pleased your baby has stayed put - what a relief for you!

grinningbee · 13/01/2009 09:20

I've been wearing the same pair of trainers pretty much all the time. I did notice yesterday standing around in a hot hospital that my feet swelled straight away, but they're ok again now!

Two more days to 30 weeks!!

I went for my "growth scan" yesterday. Hmmmmmm. Had to see the consultant beforehand who measured my bump and confirmed that it is measuring 34 weeks, but then announced " but I'm not sure if I'm measuring baby or fat!".

She didn't bother feeling around the baby, said it was pointless at the moment to do a scan, but has booked one in 3 weeks time to see if the baby is big or there is too much fluid.

I was a little tiny bit peeved at her comment, and also not doing the scan, but there you go...

The good bit was that I had to have my anti d injection (did sting though!) but they did that over in the delivery suite, so I got to see what one of the rooms is like. It's a lot less scary than I thought, and I almost cried when I saw the little cotbed in the corner

I have sooooooo much longer to wait than most of you though!

Last bit of good news - we got a council house!!! It needs a bit of work, and flooring throughout, but it's a roof over our heads which is good. How we'll find the money to do anything to it is anyones guess, but we'll get there.

Sorry for the mammoth post!

Snooch · 13/01/2009 09:32

Dont worry grinningbee - sounds like we're pretty much at the same stage? I'll be 30 weeks on Friday - due the 27th March, 8 days before DS1's 2nd birthday...not very well timed! Also had my anti D shot last week (hate those things and still one more to go....). Hello by the way - am new to Mumsnet Have been battling with posterior pelvic pain from 18 weeks or so but then again I'm positively HUGE this time round - only had it near the end with DS1 - and still childminding and finding it all a bit much now! Only going on maternity leave at the end of Feb when I'll be 36 weeks....whimper.....

Mandy73 · 13/01/2009 16:03

Well done grinningbee. For not smacking that consultant.

Anyone else having loads of braxton hicks (frequently more than the crucial 4/hour)?
I get one pretty much every time I stand up or go to the loo. And throughout the night. Slightly concerned.
Bump is massive and everyone's convinced this will happen early. Which is a 50% scary and 50% lovely thought.
Will ask MW if this is OK when I see her tomorrow.

Have a nice afternoon all.
x

MKG · 13/01/2009 19:44

Hello all.

Had my 32 week midwife appointment today. All is well. On their scales I lost 8 pounds and then only 3 pounds so I don't know what to think about that. I was so happy to see the 8 pounds though. My bump is measuring nicely, urine is good, baby's heart rate is good, and she's still head down. I go back in two weeks for a growth scan, and hopefully if I control my sugar well, we won't have a mahoosive baby to deal with here. She said, that if I control my blood sugar well enough that it shouldn't impact too much on delivery the only thing is that they wouldn't want me to go past my due date, but since I didn't get to my due date in my previous pregnancies they don't foresee that being an issue, and we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
I have an appointment with the nutritionist tomorrow morning, so I'll learn how to test my blood sugar and let's hope we can keep that under control so we can have an uneventful next 8 weeks.

Sorry for the essay!

at the consultant grinningbee ! I remember at my 12 week scan with dd, the sonographer made some comment about things being difficult with women with a high BMI (I was a size 12). Its the memory that lasted with me of that scan rather than seeing the baby.

On the shoe subject - I am still managing just about with non slip ons but the time is coming soon I think (any excuse to buy shoes though !)....

Not much to report here - have 32 week scan on friday and consultant appt, so nervous/excited about that !

Slickbird · 13/01/2009 22:06

Welcome to the VERY late Newbie Addition - Snooch! Just getting it in under the wire!

How come so many of you have a growth scan at 32/33 weeks? Is that another regional thing or does it depend on your pregnancy?

Well my SPD is a lot worse this week as I am finding the walking to work from the station and back, too much (and we'll not yet again mention standing all the way this morning on the train - I had to use every bit of reserve to not shout "I hope you're all comfy, you fckers!!" ) It's a shame that part of the pregnancy is over for me - the bit where I don't tolerate any sht from anyone, then I go ridiculously tolerant. Very annoying. But yes, pelvis really really hurting now. Am trying to do less of the decorating but it's difficult.

Had a meltdown last night, absolutely bawling my eyes out on DH's shoulder - just felt so bloody tired, fed up of being pregnant and wondering what was still to come in terms of labour etc. Just want it to be easier than the last two.

Anyway, better today. Hope you're all good.

P.S. Am spending my entire outdoor time in sweade (shit I can't remember how to spell that - I told you my spelling goes when am pg!) knee length boots, but I still have to sit down to put them on and usually shout in pain when I don't. Even tho I was pg over the summer last year,(sorry, 2007) it pissed with rain anyway, so still wasn't wearing anything easy!)

Wheelybug · 13/01/2009 22:11

sorry you're having a tough time Slickbird - I was commuting until almost 37 weeks with dd, its the pits.

I'm being scanned every 4 weeks at the mo as my dd had IUGR from 22 week scan onwards and had to come out early as a result (and was only 4 lbs 9oz at 37 weeks) so they are monitoring me. Up to 28 weeks there were no signs of same problems thankfully but obviously apprehensive about next scan.

babyinbelly · 13/01/2009 23:11

I dont get another scan. My last one was 20 weeks which feels like an age ago now.

I am starting to get tired at work now. Work till 10pm so am knackerd when I finish. I was walking back along the path to the car and this man was trying to walk past me tonight but he couldn't get past cos I was swaying from one side to the other! Lord knows what he thought was wrong with me!

Also had lots of BH at work but they dont come regularly so not concerned. Would definatly ask your MW tho mandy.

Goodnight all! x

Snooch · 14/01/2009 10:19

Thank you Slickbird! Yup, have just got in haven't I!

I really sympathise with you regarding the commuting - with DS1 I commuted over an hour on the tubes each way until 37 weeks and would often get home in the evenings in tears - getting squashed and shoved and trod on when so hysterically hormonal is MOST unwelcome to say the least!!!! Once I even shouted at a man that he was a "f*cking pig" and promptly burst into tears in front of everyone when he eventually stood up to get off and said "oh I'm sorry I didn't see you" after having my belly all but bash him on the head during the entire journey!!!! Eventually, utterly fed up and FEELING ROCKS, I got into the habit of making my way to the "priority seat" immediately upon embarking and would stand expectantly over whoever was sitting in it, and if they STILL didn't notice me I'd take great pleasure in saying on the top of my voice "excuse me, would you mind if I sat down? You ARE sitting in a priority seat you know...." Unfortunately on the one occasion there was actually a blind woman occupying the seat and I didn't even notice....I can tell you that my self centred little approach didn't go down too well with the other passengers....!!!

Had SUCH a bad night last night too - the pelvic pain was the worst it's ever been and no matter how hard I tried I just could not get comfortable - had about 4 pillows supporting various body parts and spent all night having to re-arrange them every time I tried a different position....DS1 has been teething his last set of molars for the last 4 months as well and woke up at least half a dozen times last night, me taking about 10 minutes each time just to get up out of bed! At 4 am I was just drifting off and reasonably comfortable when he woke up again and I just lost it with hubby, who NEVER EVER EVER gets up in the night and is happier leaving me to do it, shoving him awake and telling him that he was a "f*ucking a-hole" and the most unsupportive husband that there ever was and then bawled until I had to get up at 6:30 am....sob! Oh dear lord how am I supposed to get through the next 10 weeks like this???

Hmm - clearly something in the air - just had midwife app and am measuring way bigger than I should for 32 weeks - my bump is 36cm! DD was big but mw said if I was still measuring big next week she'd refer me to for another scan.

snooch I feel for you! DD is sleeping very badly at the moment - the one night she slept all the way through I was up and down with hip and back pain. Sod's law innit?!

DH has been cracking on with the nursery, it's looking fantastic and I'm SO excited!!

slickbird I'm SO with with on the commute problems. I have to avoid the really busy trains as I just get jostled and pushed - I was walking down the (wet) stairs from the station the other night and there was this bloke behind me huffing and puffing as he couldn't get past me and I just turned round and said, "I can't actually go any faster - would you like to pass me?!" and look really embarrassed. Ha!

titmouse · 14/01/2009 15:18

Hi Ladies,

I don't get any more scans either, my last was 20 weeks!

I have mild anaemia, having done my MN research I realise now I should have asked the receptionist who called me to tell me to give me a haemoglobin number so I can work out how bad it is.

My baby isn't moving as much this week, I'm 30 weeks now and am used to wild thrashing around in there, but I'm getting much less movement and it feel like slow turning not kicking or jostling.
Can anybody tell me if this is normal please?

hedgewitch so glad you got a negative on the GD, how are the GD ladies getting on with the diet changes etc?

goldmother2b · 14/01/2009 17:00

Hi ladies, my GD means that I get scanned regularly too - last scan was at 30 weeks (I'm 33 wks now), next at 34 weeks. So far baby is only a tiny bit above average, well within what's normal and ok. Fingers crossed for next week!

The GD is going ok, managing it with diet at the moment and managing to keep my blood glucose level at the right level for the majority of the time. Breakfast is the hardest meal of the day to get right - have foud poached egg on 1 slice of seeded wholemeal bread is just about my only option. I'd give my right arm for a bowl of cereal and a glass of OJ....oh well, only 5 more weeks to go.
Was told by my consultant the the next 2 weeks are crucial as hormones go a bit crazy, and then level off at 35 - 36 weeks.

I've got 2 more days left at work

Can't wait...am so tired, and pelvic pain is a nightmare too, got my mum coming up (she lives 400 miles away) to look after me for a week next week, which should be nice as long as she doesn't need entertaining!

welcome snooch and congrats on passing the GD test hedgewich

Hi I'm having about 1 more scan than normal because of the GD.

I met with the nutritionist today who put me on a diet, pretty much I'm eating all the time, and then I was sent to a nurse that showed me how to check my sugar and gave a cute little monitor. It was a ton of infor, and luckily I did a lot of research before hand, so I was overloaded with things to remember. Basically I was told exactly how often I should be eating, and when to test. Simple I guess.

She said breakfast would be the hardest to gauge but after some trial and error I'd figure it out. Seems like as soon as I get used to this whole thing, I won't be pregnant anymore.

MKG · 14/01/2009 18:12

goldmother--have they told you how having GD would affect the birth? All my midwife told me was that they wouldn't want me to go over my due date, but aside from that as long as I control my sugar, there shouldn't be an issue.
