hi all!

dinny finishing on the 6th Feb (36 weeks) and am very of your finishing date! I wish I was off now.... I've been pencilled in for my section on the 27th Feb, but have been having panic attacks that I'm going to go into labour before that. Also stressing about the spinal - have very little memory of the DD's birth unfortunately!

On a good note DH has been cracking on with the nursery (although he was going to start the floor this morning and he's too hung over ) - I'm going to post a picture of our bright green bit - too much do you think?!

4 weeks to go! 20 work-getups!! Whoooooo!!!

Mandy73 · 09/01/2009 10:54

Thanks girls!
Having a planned CS due to tragic events surrounding VBs on my side of the family and DH's too - bit of a shared trauma really.
Both of us grew up with younger relatives with severe SN due to botched VBs. Sadly they were no sunshine stories. It's nothing genetic/physically wrong with the mothers or me as far as we know, just bad luck and a very real (if not very logic) fear of VB complications in both of us. We know there are no guarantees in life and don't see CS as a cop-out - well aware of the risks. Luckily both MW and consultant agree we'd be 'rubbish candidates' for VB (psychologically).
Sorry about the essay - hope everyone has a good day.

Emma, definitely Braxton Hicks

and they ARE painless (believe me....)

auntyspan · 09/01/2009 11:49

Funny, I never had BH with DD1 but have had them LOADS with this pregnancy....

i can't believe we're all so close now! I wonder who'll be first?!

ceedub · 09/01/2009 12:23

Hi everyone,

Following the whole rachida dati thing, and with everyone thinking about how long we've got to go before going on maternity leave, this research published from Berkeley loooks very interesting. I haven't looked at the full published research, but the findings on the benefits of taking more time off before the birth (especially avoiding cs) are making me wonder whether I should finish up before my currently planned 38 weeks...the weather and dark starts (plus 4 hour round-trip to work and back) are also making an earlier finish very appealing!

emma2617 · 09/01/2009 12:26

dinny SHIT...if that was painless I am going to be useless on the big day! I am scared now, I'm not good with pain and until now was just thinking labour and delivery was gonna hurt but that I wouldn't know how bad I til the day! Now I have a marker for what its gonna hurt more....I feel sick!

MKG · 09/01/2009 12:33

Oh emma don't worry. With ds1 I never had any, but with ds2 they were very painful. For about a month before he was born I would think "this is it". Even in early labor I thought, "Oh I didn't sleep well, it's just BH"

With this pregnancy, they are just a take your breath away type of pain.

You'll be fine when the time comes.

Oh wow, I cant believe this thread is 20 pages already!!

Have been SO busy at work and not had the internet at home so sneakily lurking every now and again to catch up on everyone's news and check out the lovely name suggestions.

So, just a quick one to say Happy New Year and hope you all had lovely Christmases.

Our list of mums to be is really long now isnt it? And there are lots of famous people going to pop then too - has anyone else been following Sian's tummy growth on BBC Breakfast? She due in March too.

Everything seems to be going ok although keep getting these 'tasters' of pregnancy symptoms that last two days and then never come back - highlights of the last few weeks include:

  1. Terrible, burning, horrendous heartburn after eating cheese on toast at 9pm which lasted for more than a day. Bought gaviscon in tablet form only for them to dissolve instantly and stick to the roof of my mouth and make me retch in the office
  1. Hugely swollen ankles and hands which happened at my friend's house in the middle of nowhere. I rang NHS direct convinced I was about to develop eclampsia only to be shunted to the back of the queue, quite rightly, and rung back 9 hours later, in which time I had no sleep and lay on side with my legs on top of a load of books like a moron. Turned out to be nothing serious and havent had a hint of swelling since.
  1. Everytime I have a urine sample, there is a "trace" of something new which means I have to do it all again the next morning and go back to the doctor - I've had glucose, protein and blood so far. Looking forward to the next exciting product to appear in my wee at my midwife appointment next week
  1. Leaky nipples, but only at night. Lovely patches all over the sheets where my boobs sneakily drip when I'm none the wiser. DP thinks it's really cute - he's an idiot, it's obviously gross.

Only 22 more work days to go!! Cant wait. DP and I are going on a 'babymoon' next weekend in Cumbria, although not convinced that there will be much walking or sex as am currently rubbish at both.

Are people having baby showers? People keep asking me as if they are waiting for their invite, but I havent even thought about it.

xxxxxxxx

MKG · 09/01/2009 13:27

Millie--I'm having another baby shower. I hate them, but my sil loves them, and since this is my last baby and my first girl, she thought it would be nice. I told her no gifts though, because I don't need anymore baby crap.

PS--Your friends shouldn't ask you when it is, they should be planning it for you.

OP posts:
Millie26 · 09/01/2009 13:33

Haha, brilliant. I'll not end up having one then as I dont really have a group of girlfriends that could organise one, my friends dont really know eachother

I wouldnt want presents either, although games might be fun? Is that what you will do?

TBH I'm still not happy about having baby things lying around until she's in my arms, I'm so worried about something going wrong. I know it's probably silly, I'm just too scared to get my hopes up, it all seems too miraculous to be happening to me.

jollyjoanne · 09/01/2009 13:46

I'm starting to get a bit worried about work and that I won't get things finished in time (only 3weeks left now) although my maternity starts on 6th Feb, I am taking a week of leave before then so that I don't lose it. Its mad because leaving work is causing more stress than if I carried on. Not that I would go back after only 5 days off mind you - but may be she was feeling the same as I am.

The Braxton Hicks have been going on for a while, not painful for me yet - thank goodness - but plenty of time for that to start I am sure. And the baby seems to be getting inclreasingly active or she has turned into an octopus there appear to be kicks and punches all over the show.

I watch the BBC at Breakfast so I have noticed Sians bump getting slower larger - she is such a small lady and her bump seems really quite big - it makes me feel a little better about my looking like a complete whale!

No plans to have a baby shower here, not quite sure that I could be bothered with the whole thing and my friends don't really know each other either and none of them have children yet so there would be no good stories to share!

MrsArchieTheInventor · 09/01/2009 13:54

Hi y'all

Due on 25th January and I'm definately giving birth to an octopus! When baby moves I look like something out of Alien and fully expect a slime covered alien-like creature to burst out of my stomach, a la John Hurt.

Seriously though, I had SPD with DS1 and I've suffered with it in this pregnancy since about 24 weeks, so much so that when I get up to go to the loo in the night, which is several times as baby uses my bladder as a pillow, I have to use crutches to help me walk as my pelvis clicks and grinds and causes intense pain when I move. Turning over in bed is extremely painful and like manouvering a supertanker, a fact attested by DP making beep-beep 'wide load reversing' type noises when I turn over!! Grrr!

MKG · 09/01/2009 14:10

Millie--If we play games I'll have to shoot myself. I like the idea of everyone getting together and hanging out without men, but sipping soda from a bottle to see who wins first just to get a stupid prize is a waste.

I went to one where the mother opened her gifts blindfolded and had to guess what each one was. Do you know how long and painful that is?

OP posts:
dinny · 09/01/2009 14:16

it's a very familiar sort of pain though, Emma - same as period pains really. it's not a pain you don't recognise at some level, iyswim

Slickbird · 09/01/2009 14:55

Emma - I think in the post where Dinny said 'and they can be painless, believe me! I think she meant to type painful - is that right Dinny? Maybe not, but in my experience they can be sore. It takes me blooming ages to walk between work and the station these days as I can be wracked with one long BH!! When I got off the train today, I had to stop and breath and I had a woman stop to ask if I was ok! So it all sounds pretty normal to me.

Well, I hate to brag ladies, but I only have 5 more get-up-for work days left! Woohoo! Still, I have to fill in my Mat Allowance forms now and I won't have a job to return to, but to be honest, with two under 18mnths I wouldn't be able to afford to out them in nursery anyway.

I am waiting to see my new MW on Monday - I spoke to her the other day, and let's just say, she didn't sound the most Dynamic of women. Thank God I won't have her boring me to death in labour.....

I'm not sure how I'm measuring, so I'm quite keen for an appt.

I too have the writhing, wriggling kicking belly going on - but not when DH is looking(always the way!).

Well, this weekend, we have to finish the kitchen so I am going to try my hand at tiling - I can wallpaper, plaster and paint, but have never tiled before, so hopefully it will go ok. If I can reach it over the sink with my bump....

Happy Friday everyone!!

MKG · 09/01/2009 14:56

Dinny--I'm getting a little worried about you. I've seen some of your recent posts on other threads and you seem so incredibly worried about this baby's arrival.

Take deep breaths and say : I've done this before, I CAN do it again.

Say it over and over and over and make yourself believe it. Because everything will be fine.

OP posts:
babyinbelly · 09/01/2009 15:00

does the presence of bh indicate when the baby will come? never had them with ds and he was 2 weeks late. having koads this time so thinking that bavy is not going to hang around. is that just wishful thinking?

lizziemun · 09/01/2009 16:01

No unfortunley BH have no bearing on when baby arrives.

Didn't have any with dd1 and she was a week early.

DD2 was breach and i had her turned at 38wks and every afternoon i would have BH on and off for 4hrs and she was induced at 41+1 wks.

dinny · 09/01/2009 18:25

sorry, meant to type "they AREN'T painless" - I am having quite strong ones this pg, didn't have any my first, or not that I noticed

MKG - yes, I am in a panic, made even greater this afternoon, actually - my dad had a follow-up appointment at the Heart Hospital and they have advised me and my sister attend to be tested for the condition they think he has, which can be hereditary in some cases and can cause sudden death. Cheery. not sure what to do now really - I doubt we'll get an appointment before am due to give birth.

MKG · 09/01/2009 18:45

Dinny--I'm so sorry you're going through all this

Is the condition treatable? Get yourself an appointment as soon as possible, and for now try to relax and focus on the things that you can control.

OP posts:
dinny · 09/01/2009 19:33

thanks MKg - he's been poorly for a while, but is quite stable atm - it can't be treated but they have put a thing called an ICD in as a safeguard - it basically corrects irregular/dangerous heart rate.

think I will try and speak to my dad's consultant's secretary or something next week

Slickbird · 09/01/2009 21:40

God, Dinny that's the last thing you need to worry about right now! I should imagine that will be exacerbating your nerves regarding birth? I can see why it would. I hope this doesn't sound futile, but maybe you could work on some relaxation techniques whenever you start to worry about it, so that you can not dwell on it so much? Easier said than done - I had to get some when I was trying to get rid of headaches and the teeth clenching etc and it did help. I've been starting to get nervous about the labour too, despite being through it twice (although both were very difficult) I am hoping for a better time this time! So I should start using these techniques more now too!

I just did the wrong thing by watching an hour and a half programme on BBC4 about Anne Frank and her family and all those that died in the concentration camps - cue: floods of tears. Even tho I knew that 10 MILLION people were killed by the Germans in that war, when you start to see real people talking about it and surviving it, it just suddenly brings it home. Sorry, not the thread for this. Shocking tho.

Am now watching Vicar of Dibley to try and cheer myself up!

laweaselmys · 09/01/2009 22:46

I'm glad there's something they can do dinny but it still sounds very scary, I hope all goes well with the tests for you and your sister and that you aren't affected.

I don't have anything to report really except that baby is not currently breech! Huzzah, and seems to have settled into a regular position that she prefers and returns to - so I'm pretty optimistic she'll be that way at birth to. I was also measuring 30cms at 30wks. Which I can now use as evidence whenever people feel the need to say 'you're so tiny!' 'you're so big' nope. I'm so average.
