ooh and for all those who remember the time we've been having with DH's illness - he went back to work yesterday after 4 months. He's only doing part time but suspect it will creep up v. quickly so that's a step forward in the right direction (although I do miss my coffee drinking buddy !).

twocutedarlings · 07/01/2009 21:27

goldmother2b · 07/01/2009 21:37

hi all and happy new year!
I had my first NHS parentcraft class this evening and was very impressed - went to a paid for NCT one on Saturday and don't really know why we bothered paying as the free one was better...oh well, perhaps it will be better next time .

All the couples at my class tonight who had found out the sex were all having girls too - interesting...

I've recently started to get a little panicky about not having anything ready, and now that the big day has been moved forward by a fortnight to mid Feb I have been feeling very anxious - perhaps the nesting instinct kicking in? Anyway, I ordered a cot on Sunday from Mothercare and it arrived today and have arranged to hire a van on Sat to take us to Ikea to pick up the rest of my nursery furniture, I have bought a couple of sleepsuits for junior and have been quizzing anyone and everyone about the number of maternity pads needed in my hospital bag
All of those who have actully been through childbirth advise that lots and lots and lots are needed

Re SPD support belts and the effect on baby - I have been wearing mine now for a couple of months, and although it starts to feel quite restrictive after a few hours I don't think it is bothering junior - and I wouldn't be able to funtion without it either - I tend to take it off when vegetating at home!

Was also advised tonight to leave valuables at home when going into hosp - I don't know whether its these classes that give the thieving bastards the idea that the other preg ladies are easy targets or what...I'd never have imagined it happening if it hadn't been mentioned

emma2617 · 07/01/2009 22:29

Good evening ladies! I haven't been posting a lot as I only have internet on my phon now I'm not at work anymore! I am still reading, but typing a post with only my thumbs is quite annoying!!
Glad to hear everyone is going okay but super shocked at the thought that prole would essentially steal from a baby or labouring woman on the hospital ward!
I am on day 3 of my maternity leave and taking it nice and slow! Have nearly sorted and thoroughly cleaned the kitchen making room for steriliser and breast pump/bottles and other parafanalia! My plan is to finish it tomorrow and then move onto living room where I have to make room for pram and am going to clear a space for a box of other baby stuff that will no doubt end up living there!
Glad others have started their ante-natal classes, me and DP have chosen a full day session instead of 3 evenings as he wouldn't get home in time! We are there on saturday 10am-4pm so its probably gonna be pretty intense!! Hoping to get some more advice on hospital bag!
My dad is coming next weekend (17th) to put up curtain rail, attach changing cabinet to wall and hang pictures in nursery then I can finish it off! I'm so excited!!

I haven't startef weeing myself yet just have terrible discharge...quantity of, it takes the mick!

Saw the midwife on Monday when I was 31 weeks, measured 32 so all is good! Baby is head down but not engaged like some of you!! Can't believe its only 8 and half weeks to go!!

Hope you all sleep well...WI won't get to sleep til at least 1.30 as this baby seems to be nocturnal!!

meep · 08/01/2009 07:25

Goodness - dd's "nursery" was more of a dumping room for months - mind you we were able to have her cot beside our bed and I found it so hard to move her into her own room that she didn't go into the nursery until she was 9mo ! Am very impressed by your organisational skills ladies - we haven't worked out where this one wil go after he/she grows out of the moses basket!

No ante-ntal classes for us this time round - feels so soon after having dd and I am having an elective section so won't need to know too much. I am planning on going to some breastfeeding workshops pre-birth though.

goldmother we went to NCT classes with last time round - more to make friends with Mums to be who would have babies the same age (and th eNHS ones were during working hours and altho we could have got time off that is easier said than done in our jobs!). 18months on and I still see our group of 6 on an almost weekly basis so NCT was a huge success for me.

I have no idea what this babies hearrate is - just that it is there and sounds normal - my MW doesn't seem too botherered about that sort of thing - I checked my notes and I am measuring about 1.5 weeks ahead of my actual dates - but she's never really mentioned that either (I suspect it is due to too much chocolate and not baby at all!)

dinny · 08/01/2009 09:32

Emma - snap, I measured 32 yesterday as well!

woke up at 5am this morning with the terrors (about giving birth)

auntyspan · 08/01/2009 09:34

I am SO ready to finish work - I'm in a permanent bad mood! The commute is killing me and I'm shattered by the end of the day
Not long now - 4 weeks left. If I make it that long!

dinny · 08/01/2009 09:44

how many weeks will you be when you finish, AS? I stopped at 29 weeks this time - mainly because I had dd the day after I went on mat leave the first time!

Boobz · 08/01/2009 09:48

Know how you feel Aunty.

6 weeks yesterday until I finish - and I have mentally turned off already. Seriously cannot be arsed with work.

Going on hosiptal tour this evening with DH - which hopefully we won't have to remember much about as am hoping for a HWB. Next MW appointment isn't until 23rd Jan and my last one was on the 11th Dec so it seems like ages! No idea what position the babe is in as I feel knocks (kicks? punches? wriggles?) all over the place from top to bottom and left to right. If anything I'd say it was transverse! Sleeping now - or at least not moving about...

Have posted the most incrediblly long list of everything I have (homebirth kit, just-in-case-hospital-bag, nursery, clothes - everything - you name it - it's on my list - on the Homebirth thread if anyone is interested. Nuresery curtains go up today and then I am done! 9 weeks early! xxx

Hi all,

Am having a grump today because we've been trying to sell our flat and buy a house for the last five months and our buyer is really dragging her feet.

The estate agent reckons she's about to gazunder us, and I'm at the point where I don't care what she does, I just wish she'd get on and do it so I know where I'm going to be living in 8 weeks time!

Bloody housing market

Sorry for rant, am working from home today so have noone else to vent on!

lollipopz · 08/01/2009 14:18

Hi all sorry not posted for ages have been reading along though! Glad every one had a nice time at the festive period!
You all sound really organised! I have nothing apart from a hat and bootees that were knitted for me! !
Suppose I had better get my arse in gear! When I had dd1 i had every thing by the time i was 7 months and a neatly packed bag, then when I had ds i was running around the house with my waters leaking everywhere throwing pjs and all sorts in to a bag! You would think i would have learnt by now! I am on number 4 so suppose I must just be laid back about the whole thing !
emma The whole discharge thing is really annoying I have today stocked up on pads and Primark big pants because of it!
Had anti d yesterday my arm was so stingy
Then had to rush over to Yorkhill hosp as they have flagged up yet more probs with ds's blood count so away home with more aspirin and iron and creams my kitchen cupboard looks like a pharmacy!
I feel really behind you lot suppose its cos I am due right at the end of March! Still will have all your birth announcements to keep me occupied the last 3 or 4 weeks!
L xx

Slickbird · 08/01/2009 15:40

I can't believe anyone knicks the pillows from hozzie! In my experience they are crap! Flat, hard with a plastic sheeting under the pillow case!! I might take one, just for the comfort factor!

Meep I think you've hit the nail on the head - I think some folk don't offer incase you're not pregnant, overweight or just got bad trapped wind! The coat thing is def a prob - do you open yours? I do, but to be honest, it didn't make any difference yesterday!!

Anyone else shocked/horrified at that stupid French minister (Justice) who has gone back to work 5 days after giving birth (C-sec). So many things wrong with that IMO - First, 6 weeks to recover from C-sec - she should only just be getting out of hospital. Second - she shouldn't even be able to walk properly and she was in heels! Third, what about her poor baby? Fourthly, how crap are the French cabinet if she's that worried about not being side-lined? How crap? Crap.

Rant over.

MKG · 08/01/2009 15:56

I hate being pregnant and sick. I can't take it, it sucks.

I don't know about this French lady. I guess it depends on her job. She probably doesn't have to be on her feet all the time, or can do things from home. And if she's like my sil who was cleaning her house 4 days after her c-section, she's probably all hopped up on painkillers.

ceedub · 08/01/2009 16:32

Hi everyone,

Sorry for not having posted in ages, had mum staying which was lovely, but hectic (especially as she kept urging me to get more organised...which seemed to mean window-shopping for baby clothes!).

Had another antenatal appointment - 4th different mw in as many appointments, honestly, am beginning to wonder if it's me?! bit crap though, have to go through entire history at the start of each appointment. With only 7-ish weeks to go, hope this one sticks...

But everything measuring fine - bump is 33cm at 32+2, baby is head down facing back, so hopefully she stays that way. Just have to get the all-clear from the 36-week scan that my placenta has moved enough for me to have a vb [hopeful emoticon]. oh, and dp and I really have to get properly organised...'nursery' still full of suitcases and unpacked boxes from when we moved in...

Shame about rachida dati - while it was great to see her get into the cabinet in such an improtant role, kind of undermined by fact she clearly feels she needs to drag herself out of bed just to hold onto her position - not like any of her male colleagues face that kind of dilemma. And doesn't send a great message - my boss is prone to making comments like 'i wish I could sterilise all my female employees' (he thinks it's a joke but we all know he really resents mat leave) and this just reinforces neanderthal attitudes that you're slacking if you take any time off for pregnancy/maternity leave. not that I'm letting that stop me.

Mandy73 · 08/01/2009 16:49

Hi there,

So much going on here!
Sorry to hear several people aren't feeling so great.

Just back from seeing the consultant yet again - and we got what we wanted:
The CS booked in!
Baby's birthday - blimey - it makes it so real and lovely after all the detachment and worry in this friggin' pregnancy.
So 16 March it is. Hooray!

Love to everyone.
xx

MKG · 08/01/2009 17:07

Congrats Mandy!! It must feel nice to know that you will meet your baby on a certain day (unless you go into labor sooner )

OP posts:
grinningbee · 08/01/2009 17:36

Congrats Mandy after everything you've been through that's a big relief I bet.

Hello everyone!

Tis total choas here. Not only are we desperately trying to find somewhere to live (cos we can't have children where we are), and hubby is trying to find work... I had my GTT on Monday and failed the first bit so am waiting for the results of the blood test.

Add to that I had my MW appt today (I am 29 weeks today). I should have been having my anti d, but when she opened the packet, they'd sent the wrong dose.

I am also measuring 34 weeks instead of 29!!!!! So, now dh is in a panic. I'm going for a growth scan on Monday afternoon, so we shall see what comes of that.

Hey ho!

Apparently Amy is head down, and we heard a fab strong galloping heartbeat - around 157.

Has anyone already with dc's been measured big and still had a little baby? I really don't want to be deprived of choccy as well as all the other things we're not supposed to eat in the last few weeks!

Wheelybug · 08/01/2009 18:57

Good news Mandy !

GB - with dd I measured bang on for dates all the way through and she was born on the less than 0.4 centile ! This one is measuring bang on and is measuring on the 50th centile. So, I don't think uterus size is a very accurate predictor of baby size.

We have a antenatal/active birth refresher class all day saturday. I say refresher but as i didn't really labour last time its more like first time - hence the class.

dinny · 08/01/2009 19:42

Mandy, how come you are having a section (nosey but interested)

Slickbird · 08/01/2009 21:40

That's good news Mandy - Hope all continues to go well for you!

Ceedub I agree, if it were a man it wouldn't be an issue and I think it's terrible that the cabinet are making her feel this anxious about keeping her job - I could be wrong, it could be her own motivation, but it did report in the news saying that that was her fear. I can't believe your boss goes around saying that! That's bloody terrible!!!!!!

Am away for an earlyish night - am so tired hoofing all this around and working and looking after a 8 year old teenager and a 16 month old that climbs all over me and kicks me in the bump all the time! Inside and out kicking - great!

Night Y'all.

emma2617 · 08/01/2009 21:42

Evening ladies...I just have a really quick question...was hoping some one could shed some light on it!

I was walking from my car to the house this evening and I suddenly had a bizarre feeling in my belly, it was kind of painful and actually stopped me in my tracks and made me gasp, probably lasted about 20/30 seconds. Was it just braxton Hicks or should I be worried? I thought they weren't supposed to hurt? And it was only once!

Anyone?!?!

laumiere · 08/01/2009 22:13

Well I had exactly the same thing today! I decided not to worry as it only happened once.

Erm, anti-Ds - should we all be having those? I'm 31w and haven't had one....

MKG · 09/01/2009 04:11

Emma- It was most likely Braxton Hicks. The usually just take your breath away, but they can get painful.

Hello all, haven't been on for ages as have been busy with moving and working etc etc!
Have been lurking just haven't had the chance to post.
Glad everyone's pregnancy's are progressing well, I went for a scan and consultant on 22nd Dec and the baby was measuring on the small side so she told me to think about giving up work and that we'd talk about it in 2 weeks time when I would have another scan and appointment, so sort of accepted that I may be giving up work early (secretly excited!!) so went for my appointment yesterday and the baby has caught up and measuring fine (thank goodness) and is also head down at the moment, hoping it stays that way, but there is no need for me to give up work early, I now have to get my mindset that I still have another 6 weeks left which seem forever so very of those of you who have finished already!!!
Have been getting lots of BH and they take my breath away, apparantly it is a good time to practise your breathing..........

Boobz · 09/01/2009 09:33

Thank god it's Friday. 25 more getty up days until maternity leave - woop!
