Definitely clumsy - re earlier post and broken bowl and knocking a picture and tonnes of plaster out of the wall at my parents!

Have started packing the hospitals bags one for me and one for the baby - no idea how we are going to squeeze everything into the bags though - the lists seem so long. I can see me leaving another bag of all the stuff I couldn't fit in the first ones in DHs car! Hopefully it won't still be freezing by then or my spare nighties and babygros will all be too cold to wear!

Can't say I really like hospitals though so rather praying I don't have to stay too long. Although people assure maternity wings are not like the rest of the hospital - but I think its just the not feeling quite comfortable away from home thing.

The babys nursery is also nearly ready (still a few odds and sods lying around that need a new home but all the furniture is in and there are some baby clothes washed and ready in the draws and nappies etc) its just the rest of the house that needs a bit of TLC now!

And just another 4/5 weeks of work left depending on whether I use my holidays at the start or end of my maternity leave. But I seem to have so much to do. I think the stress of trying to get everything done at work in such a short space of time my knock me over the edge. Good job I will get a couple of weeks to relax before the baby is due (all going to plan of course?!).

Re the pram - I got a pushchair and car seat for me as my car is to small for the travel system options for less than £200 and it is suitable from birth. And then i bought an old pram which converts to a pushchair (although it would be quite a heavy pushchair) for the first few weeks when I just want to take the baby out for a walk, and I got this for £20 from ebay. So I think I did quite well - although they will obviously both be taking up a bit of space round the house (or in the case of the pram - my parents house - who only live down the road!)

Zebraa · 06/01/2009 14:56

I don't normally chat on this thread much even though I read it religiously. Anyway, I'm due early March and due to concern for me not putting much weight on, I was sent for a scan this morning - anyway I was told I'm having a boy - not a girl like they told us at the 20 wk scan! Main thing I suppose is that baby is fine.

I feel really gutted - I know that's inappropriate but I've been really preparing for a little girl!

Has anyone else experienced this?

Boobz · 06/01/2009 15:46

No experience in that dept for me Zebraa - we have decided to keep it a surprise so we have no idea what we're having. I can understand gearing yourself up for one flavour and then being a bit put out it's the other, but tbh I think I would have been more gutted the other way around. Not sure why really, but I kind of want this one to be a boy for DH (only child - very much a man's man who plays lots of rugby and watches sport etc. He will completely dote on a little girl too, I know, but I think he's secretly wanting a boy and not telling me and so that rubs off on me even though I really am happy to have either, and would prefer to have one of each at some point).

JJ - sounds like you are well organised with your pram-age! We have got the Bugaboo Bee in yellow which I know will probably end up being usurped by a Mclaren at some point before the babe is 12 mo, but I couldn't help myself. We are having a Very Hungry Caterpillar themed nursery, and it really fits in there well at the moment (which is where it is parked and the cat sleeps on it at the mo'). Cot to be delivered next week and then that is it - I have got everything! Even my breast pump arrived today so all the glamourous and non glamourous items are ticked off the list (although still have to buy some sheets and sort old towels for the home birth).

Dog is pacing so it must be walk time. Am about to heft my 30 week bump up around the common and back in the freeeezing cold! Where is DH when you need him?

xxx

jollyjoanne · 06/01/2009 16:02

Hmm, Zebraa hoping that our little girl doesn't turn out to be a little boy - as we have prepared totally for a little girl - wouldn't actually mind which sex but it will be a little boy dressed in a lot of pink for the first few months! haha.

I have just come back from the midwife and I am quite scared becos even though I am only 31+2 the baby's head is already engaged. The midwife says first time mums can drop quite early but this seems ridiculous - I will have a baby's head really squeezing my bladder for potentially 9 weeks and thats if the baby arrives on time!

And hopefully if my hubby gets home from work on time - we are off to our first ante-natal class tonight, so might actually start to learn a few things!

Hello Zebraa - seen your posts today about the scans being different about the gender.. must be a very weird thing to be expecting a girl and getting a boy... Did you have lots of pink clothes etc?

Will have to have a good read of the thread to see what you have all been up to... Used to read this thread religously but it dropped off my watch list for some reason. Firmly back on now!

laumiere · 06/01/2009 18:24

Just back from the consultant and wanted to share some good news at last!

Since DS1 arrived at 31w I've been way nervous about this pregnancy (not least as I'm 31 weeks today!) but have been under the care of the consultants at University Hospital Lewisham. They've been brilliant, and today discharged me from the high risk clinic as everything is going perfectly!

I feel like I can finally relax DS2 is measuring 33w today and is head down but not engaged yet (unless DS1 who was 4lb 6 at birth and engaged from 28w).

Anyone join me for some celebratory non-alcoholic fizz?

twocutedarlings · 06/01/2009 19:40

Fab news laumiere you must feel like such a weight has been lifted , gosh your DS1 was a good weight for 31 weeks!!. My DD1 spent 2 weeks on the NCU (1wk ITU and wk on SCBU) so i know a little of what its like to have a baby away from you in those precious early days . Oh and ive been clumbsy all the way through this pg, infact i had to replace 8 mugs and 6 dinner plates the week before xmas .

Welcome back Gyo and Missmodular keep postin, i love reading how everyone is getting along.

jollyjoanne Try not to worry about baby being engaged at this stage, its better that they are the right was round!! IIRC DD1 engaged at about 34weeks and was a week late!!

Zebra How are you feeling now? i totally understand how difficult it must be to get your head around it all, have you bought many ink things?

Welcome Mamasmurf I will update the list and add you in my next post not sure re advice on your birth - sorry, but personally i would post to the wider audience on the childbirth section.

Hedgewitch Great news that you finances have turn around a little for you all , actually ive just read up on the surestart grant and we are also entitiled to it, DD1 gets DLA and i claim carers allowance (she has AS) so we can claim it.....YAY!!! I know there are a few other mums here that have DCs with SNs so i just though i would mention it .

Link for other to check if the are entitiled to it.

Sure Start Maternity grant

Zebraa · 06/01/2009 20:59

I have bought a few little pink things but we'll just have to swap them. DP isn't bothered in the slightest, he seemed really excited and said at least we can use all DS's old clothes and things and they can share toys etc.

Anyone else feeling unbelievably lazy? I just cannot be bothered to lift a finger!

Slickbird · 06/01/2009 21:52

Missmodular - Really sorry to hear you are still feeling so sick. That's so grim and I really sympathise cos you just want to make it STTTTOOOOOOOPP!!! Hope it eases for you soon.

Anyone else's ribs feckin killing them? Urgh! So sore. And as for my f*nny! Ooof!

Started back at work yesterday and both journeys on the train, no-one noticed I was heavily pregnant and had to stand until someone was getting off. Although fair play, when I sat down, one woman started apologising that she hadn't noticed. I don't really blame folk, everyone's head down reading the paper or trying to sleep!

Still, can't complain, only week and a half to go and I can't wait, although I will really really miss my team as they have been so supportive of me, I've been really lucky with this employer - which makes a great change as my last two treated me like shit.

Only 7.5 weeks to go. Bring it on!!!

laumiere · 07/01/2009 00:13

Thanks twocute, yep he was a right little bruiser, he was 2x the size of the other babies in the SCBU! Actually he still is, he's over 2.5ft tall at 2.5 years!

MKG · 07/01/2009 02:59

So I change my underwear 6 times today because I have a terrible virus and a really bad cough. Whenever I cough I pee myself. Not just a little trickle but a major explosion! This baby is so low right now I feel kicks in my rectal area too.

Sorry for TMI, but dh is sick of hearing of my pregnancy woes.

OP posts:
Boobz · 07/01/2009 09:22

Another cough / sneeze pee-er here. Am wearing panty liners all the time now. Is very annoying and DH just laughs at me and asks "did you pee yourself - ha ha" every time I have to stop and cross my legs when am out walking the dog and sneezing at the same time. Asshole.

laweaselmys · 07/01/2009 10:42

Back to bag packing - I have just heard that I have to take me own PILLOWS with me to hospital, because women keep nicking them, so the hospital is currently really low stocked (and obviously has other things to spend their money on). This is a really nice NHS maternity unit, and I'm really shocked that anybody would think it is okay to go to hospital and then steal stuff to take home with them!

lolianja · 07/01/2009 11:57

I feel so bizarre reading the list and seeing a big bold SURPRISE next to my name - because it's not a surprise, well, not really. We never had the sex finalised (looked away at the 20 week scan) but were always 100% sure it was a girl and at a scan I had the other week when I slipped on some ice and knocked myself out, I was whispered to by the tech who did the scan that it was "almost certainly" a little girl.

@jollyjoanne - I'm coming up 33 weeks and my baby's head is engaged. Bizarrely this hasn't had much of an effect on my bump - which is still very small and trim and not nearly as low down as I'd imagined it would be at this stage - but I'm pissing like a race horse.

EllieorOllie · 07/01/2009 12:38

Hi all, lol at your stories of peeing when sneezing etc. Mind you it's only a matter of time before it happens to me. A few days ago i was totally bemused by the night sweats conversation, but i woke up at 3 this morning practically drowning in sweat. Ugh, ugh, ugh. I didn't really notice with DD because it was high summer and i was permanently sweaty anyway.
Was wondering whether anyone with 2 DCs already had any advice on changing bags? I have a fairly small wallaboo bag which is already bursting at the seams (i carry a lot of unnecessary crap!!), and i think i'm going to need somthing much more roomy when this little one makes his appearance. I'm strongly leaning towards the oi oi carry all at the moment and I definitely don't want a skip hop because of the bleeding velcro everywhere (was what i had 2 years ago). Anyone got any opinions on the oi oi, or any other suggestions?
Also... Hedgewitch, how is your SPD? How are you getting on with your support belt? I'm avoiding wearing mine, cos it seems to really disturb the baby. Have you had any similar probs?

jollyjoanne · 07/01/2009 12:41

First ante-natal class last night. We learnt about labour - I think the DH is now scared stiff!!!! Next week is more about pain relief - this one I will paying lots of attention to!

Midwife also metioned about the loose fingers of some women in the labour ward and suggested not taking any good babygros into the wards or anything else we were too precious about, as it wasn't unheard of for stuff to be borrowed or taken!!!

hello ladies!
hope you are all well and had a lovely Christmas and New Year!
I got flu on Christmas Eve after resisting it all year (typical, eh?!) - would have given my left arm for a lemsip!
i too had the pee-myself-while-sneezing thing which everyone seemed to find hilarious - and i thought i was so good doing my pelvic floor exercises!
ah well, all better now.
cannot believe there are only 9 weeks to go!
am i the only one feeling a bit unprepared? haven't even thought about my hospital bag yet!
reassure me that i'm not too far behind please!!!!!
going to drag dh to the shops on saturday and get some baby essentials, didn't want to get too much too soon but i guess there's no such thing as being overprepared in this area!

I haven't properly wee'd myself this pregnancy - but I am sure it is only a matter of time - bladder feels totally squished and weeing is so unsatisfying !

Saw the physio yesterday about my back - not much she could do apart from giving me the usual advice and telling me to stop trying to sleep on my tummy which has made me sad - I hate sleeping on my side and had developed a great hybrid tummy/recovery position with lots of pillows - but have been told that this is the worst thing for my lower back pain - boo hoo!

amy don't worry about not having loads of stuff yet - I am planning on sorting everything in Feb when I go on maternity leave!

slickbird - no-one stands up for me on my bus in the morning. This morning this woman just kepy staring at my bump - I like to think she was just trying to work out f I was pregnant or not! It was better when I was pregnant with dd because it was summer so teh bump was really obvious - but when I'm wrapped up in a big coat and scarf people could be forgiven for thinking I am just a small rather rotund lady

at the stroies about loose fingered women on labour wards - I would have been such an easy target first tinme round as I was so drugged up and dazed and confused that I wouldn't have noticed. I will be on the ball this time round!

Like you don't have enough to worry about when in hospital having a baby, but the added annoyance of people nicking your stuff? For pity's sake.

hi all

saw consultant today about ds's delivery (getting stuck) - reassuring, she was so nice, thinks should defo have vb not section.... (eeek) but will do section if I am adamant

baby's head was 3/5 engaged, argh!

dinny · 07/01/2009 20:24

oh, and Hr was 150, so am convinced it is a girl

Wheelybug · 07/01/2009 21:21

Hi All

Glad the consultant was nice Dinny - LOL at 'I'm sure its a girl'. We didn't find out either but are always trying to guess it. This one's heartbeat was 130-140 which I guess should mean its a boy but then dd's heartbeat was the same. Everyone is convinced its a boy (by the way I'm carrying etc) - but then they were with dd !

I think I experienced my first braxton hicks this evening - don't think I ever got them with dd but was very uncomfortable for a while until I sat down.

Also, I thought I had stopped growing at quite the same rate I had been but then put on a jacket this evening that I had been squeezing myself into and haven't worn it for a couple of weeks and its not even close to doing up.

We also talked about names tonight - and I think managed to cross all those we had off our list so we're back to square one and baby is nameless.... 9 weeks to decide...
