Here's our new thread ladies.

You guys can always go on the GD diet with me.

dinny · 03/01/2009 18:45

ooh, yes, MKG - give us an idea of your daily food

MKG · 03/01/2009 19:05

Well I haven't had an appointment with a nutritionist yet, so I'm making it up as I go along based on what my sil (who has type I) told me.

Basically, I'm limiting fruit juices and cutting out sweetened drinks.

Totally eliminating sweets

Limiting carbs and starchy vegetables.

Changing carbs to whole grain.

Limiting fruit to two servings a day.

Unlmited non-starchy vegetables.

Upping my water intake.

So it looks like 3 small meals and 3 snacks.
Balancing carbs, fats, and protein, and portion control.

Hopefully I'll get a better handle on it when I meet with the nutritionist in two weeks.

Just a quickie to say Happy New Year to everyone!

Sorry I've been rubbish at commenting but we've had an Internet-free two weeks - and it's been sooo de-stressing.

Oh, and we put the cot up yesterday. Too premature you reckon? But I just don't see how we'll have the time otherwise.

xx

dinny · 03/01/2009 20:15

thanks, MKG - did you have Gd with your others?

Mandy - wow, you are organised!!

MKG · 03/01/2009 20:18

No I didn't which is why I feel totally lost now. You would think that the third would be the smoothest, most uneventful. Nope, definitely was the second.

laumiere · 03/01/2009 20:40

Hi MKG that sounds a lot like the GI diet I follow to control my hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). Rick Gallop does a great family GI cookbook with easy recipes in if it's any help.

dinny · 03/01/2009 20:42

so unpredictable, isn't it?
were your others big babies?

emma2617 · 03/01/2009 21:12

Mandy I wouldn't worry about being premature with putting the cot up...ALL our furniture has been up for about 2 months now!!

Again, all this talk of healthy eating has had an effect on me...we went out for tea and I had a great big Sundae for pudding!!

MKG · 04/01/2009 03:17

Thanks laumarie.

Dinny-My first was 6 lb 1 oz and my second was 7 lb 10 oz. So no, no history of big babies.

Well we've just had the horrendous news that we need to find somewhere else to live! .

Lanldord has been an absolute devil and she sent us a really threatening and nasty letter n Friday night through courier sayign our rent remains unpaid and she has no option to give us 4 weeks notice, meaning we have to be out by the 31st of this month.

Dp phoned her and she was sooooo rude, started screaming etc and he couldn't even get the REAL reason from her as we only paid the rent late once , due to errors with our back account and it was agreed with her and she had no qualms back in November..Mark had to tell her he will contact her again after seeking legal advice and she just screamed so your not going to give me my house back - well i'm keeping your deposit anyway, so he ended the conversation there. She was not in a rational state at all.

I'm gutted as we chose this house back in August as it was perfect for baby. I was in tears yesterday but i am keeping it together. We run our own business of which dp does not take any drawings yet - so we live off of my salary. But as i'm soon to be on Maternity leave i can see this being a nighmare with new landlords and explaining that we can afford it.

So yesterday Dp took us out to pizza hut for lunch to cheer us up after a little bit of bargain baby shopping and i mean bargain. I got £123 worth of things for £21 (sleeping back, romper and babygro sets, canvasses for nursery wall) then we got half price rompers suits from next and then some bargain outfits from Matalan.

Thinking of changing my choice of pram aswell - mostly for cost reasons. I really really WANT the Bebecar Ip Op in red and our local nursery shop said they will do it for a bargain £500 (not sure it's a bargin tbh - puschair, carrycot and raincover, changing bag) and then the seat and base we need will be £200 more so that is £700 all together.

But yesterday i spied the Silver Cross 3d in Babies r us and quite liked the look and feel of that.

But i'm really not sure - head all voer the place at the moment

All we need when i'm 30 weeks pg, 2 moves in one pregnancy is not good and dd will be really upset.

Oh well, Hope you're all okay! xx

Wolfblass · 04/01/2009 10:12

Apologies for typos -

What on earth was i doing -lmao!!! X

Slickbird · 04/01/2009 21:40

Wolfblass What a bloody nightmare - that's the last thing you need at this stage. I wonder what's changed with her? Maybe she's got financial probs too and is getting hassle elsewhere (repossession threats perhaps?) Anyway, not siding with her, just odd that she should be so stressed that she's screaming at your dp? Hope you get it sorted soon.

Well I am due back at work for two weeks tomorrow and then I am off on mat leave/finish up. Although I am dreading it as last time I was working a couple of weeks ago I had sinusitus and headaches constantly, so am just hoping that the sneezing that DH and I are doing today is not the start of a fresh cold. My work will think I'm 'at it' if I go back with a new illness!!!!

Anyway, I'm finding it quite interesting reading about people preparing their hospital bags etc. I think I must be quite blase about it all third time round as I haven't really done anything yet - I got DH to take down the cot that DD2 had been in that we had in our room that we were duming stuff in and put the moses up but that's it. Having said that, mum and I have been decorating the kitchen this weekend so have been busy. I guess I don't really need anything as we still have everything from last year. The only thing I'll need to get is a double buggy and there seems to be a fair few second hand ones for sale on gum tree.

Re Paper knickers - I have to say, I got them first time round (and I think second too) but I think I found myself wondering why because I was using the sanitary pads anyway. I think I got them because I was told it was the 'thing you do'. But I'm not sure you have to. And with regards to disposable nighties in birth, I got my jammies (yes was wearing jammy bottoms in labour for some reason) covered in all sorts of nasty stuff and am pleased to say it all came out in the wash and I am wearing them again now!

The only thing I would personally recommend for the bag other than what people already have, is a flask of hot water, tea bags and some milk so you can have a cup of tea when YOU want it, esp if your labour takes hours like mine! (Or coffee for for you or DH if that's your thing!)

For those that haven't been through labour I'd never recommend a C sec over a VB - it's such a big op and the recovery time so much longer and if you're able a VB is how bubba's are intended to come out and so try not to be scared of the concept. If it goes to a C sec, then it does, you never know what way things will go and I understand why people choose them if they have had traumatic labours before, but lots and lots of people have normal VB's so try not to worry about it too much - it's amazing what the body knows how to do, even if we don't!! (Hope I'm not being too contraversial here or offending anyone's opinions, just tying to incourage people not to worry unnecessarily!)

Boobz · 04/01/2009 22:13

Am also back to work tomorrow Slick, but I have got 6 weeks to go, not 2 - boooo! Really don't wanna, in a throwing toys out of pram way, but I know it is just 6 short weeks so am trying to make the best of it.

Latest 30 week(ish) bump photos now uploaded onto my profile. Want to see everyone else's so get them loaded up!

Off to bed as have to be up to walk dog at 7am prior to starting work. Roll on Feb 18th! xxx

Happy new year everyone, if I haven't said it before!

Littlemisskiwi · 04/01/2009 22:34

Hi ladies

I can't have been on here for months as I didn't even know we had a new thread.

I loved being at home over xmas with DH. Did some naping on the counch and loved it. Have continued to have morning sickness though. I guess I'm gonna have it all the way through and it still gets me down.

Am back at work today. So bored and tired already. Haven't done any work for 2 1/2 hours. It is so quiet. Only 3 1/2 weeks left of working, then on Mat leave.

Anyone else a bit anxious about being bored at home waiting for time to pass once they are off work?

Ante-natal classes start this week. I can't wait. It might finaly sink in that I'm making a baby and its gonna come out.

twocutedarlings · 04/01/2009 22:49

Hi all,

OMG - all this talk about hospital bag, think i had better get my arse into gear!! i am planning a home birth, but i am still going to pack at least an overnight bag, i cant trust DH to sort thing like that out LOL.

littlemisskiwi Welcome back - And im sure you will find plenty to do on your maternity leave, enjoy it!! i am still trying to decide when to start mine LOL ............................im a SAHM btw .

Hello ladies,

I've not posted for months but thought I'd update the list (taking the girls total to a lucky 13)!

After a horrid first trimester I was plain sailing until just before Xmas when I got a nasty flu thing - I was coughing so much I kept making myself sick . Just when I thought I was over it I pulled something in my ribs from a major coughing fit so it's now really uncomfortable to sleep on my side! Also finding it difficult getting up and turning over in bed, plus DD wants to be picked up all the time so physically, am finding it tough going. Luckily I can work from home for the next four weeks until starting mat leave so at least I don't have a commute to cope with.

Anyone else blubbing at the drop of a hat? I'm assuming it's pregnancy hormones - the other day I cried at an episode of Bagpuss - and that's never happened before!

morning all. Haven't been on here fpr ages so skipped over most of the thread but thought I'd just pop in and say a happy new year to everyone. Went back to work on saturday after christmas so th final slog is on! I finish on 31st january so only 4 weeks to go!

mamasmurf · 05/01/2009 12:35

Hi all, completely new to mumsnet and just joined the thread. Due 21st March 2009. Third time round for me, DS 4yrs and DD 3yrs.

Anybody any advice on method of delivery after 1 CS and 3rd degree tear second time round (VBAC) ? looking for a magic wand!

laweaselmys · 05/01/2009 15:15

Hi Mamasmurf no advice I'm afraid, first time for me! I suppose if you're not sure either way the docs will probably try and get you in for a trial of labour anyway.

We bought our pram huzzah!! We actually already have a silver cross 3d wolfbass second hand that a friend passed on to us - she loved it, but only used it for six months (it's really pretty heavy and not that practical once you get out of the newborn rear-facing faze) and still pretty expensive... if you're worried about money I would get something second hand for the pram stage. Our new one is a silvercross pop! And I love it so much. It doesn't recline the whole way back, even though it says it's from birth, but it's so light and easy to fold, and should last years. We got it from mothercare plus cosytoes for £107 as we had a 10% off voucher and it's also on sale there atm.

Having done that DP and I made up and cleaned up both prams. All of the second hand baby clothes and equipment have been antibacced and washed, but then put away again. I don't want to do too much too early, as the baby's room is currently our study and I want to delay having all the computer stuff in our bedroom for as long as possible. TBH, if I had my way I'd've done everything already but I'm trying to slow down and not leave DP behind in my overpreparedness!

Baby girl is very very active atm, and I'm enjoying watching her wriggle all around my belly. When she rolls over it looks like she's doing a mexican wave!

laumiere · 05/01/2009 22:49

Hey, is anyone else being unbelievably clumsy at the moment?

I was cooking pasta and meatballs and I swear 90% of the ingredients ended up on the floor....

On the other hand DS1 has now chosen this time to be super-clingy and want only Mummy, which surprised me as my DH is a SAHD and only went back to work this week. DS1 is over half my height so trying to lift/carry him about is a bit tricky....
