Here's our new thread ladies.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

ooh ooho Lizziemum the latter is MY name (both except I don't have an interesting Y in Jane !). So that would get my vote. I've always liked my name - am not shortened to the obvious ever (well some people do despite never calling myself it but some people can't help themselves) although am Vic to a lot of people.

Dinny - If you don't mind me asking why are you thinking of an elective c-sec ? If it helps, having had a c-sec with dd my reasons for not having one is principally the recovery time. I had a really good and quick recovery after dd but still don't think I would have been ready for the nursery run/ swimming/ ballet run which I am going to have to be now. I think I still havea fairly high chance of ending in c-sec and if I do, I don't have any issues with it but I guess part of me also wants to see what its like as I was induced early with dd and it didn't work at all apart from some nasty contractions that did bugger all (naive possibly !) . My friends who have had electives speak very positively of them and it does make me think about it. At the end of the day, I think it comes down to the fact there is no ideal way of getting the baby out .

Well...all this talk of hospital bags has scared me into action!! So I went and bought great big ginorma-knickers and a nighty today! Gonna pop into primark for a second one to to do the deed in so that if it gets messy I can treat it as disposable!

I am also starting to wonder what I need to take for baby...other than clothes! Do I need to take nappies? If so haw many? How long should I pack for...just overnight? Yes, I now have the heebie jeebies again and am panicking that I know nothing and really shouldn't have been allowed to get pregnant in the first place!!

dinny · 02/01/2009 21:07

Wheely, I've had two vb (quick and drug free) but, and I have posted prob too much about this!!, with ds (2nd baby) I had a shoulder dystocia

my main thing is also recovery time/time in hosp with section - my two have so many flipping clubs etc and we live in a village, would be nightmare

dinny · 02/01/2009 21:09

Emma, yes, you need nappies

and pack for a night or two, you can always send home for more supplies!

laumiere · 02/01/2009 22:47

dinny to be fair I have to prepare early, DS1 arrived at 31w 5d (or to pout it another way, if this DS does the same he'll be arriving on 11 Jan!

emma - take two night dresses you don't like and can throw and one more - I took 2, the first I gave birth in and the second got covered in blood when they took out my cannula AFTER I'd just got clean!

Boobz · 03/01/2009 00:20

Hi all - long time no post - but it seems that the new year has brought lots of preparation from us March mummies and I am one of them. DH and I painted the nursery and I have bought everything that I think I will need except for the breast pump and baby monitor, both of which I am currently bidding on, on Ebay. Have got everything else I reckon, including the birth pool, everything I might need if I transfer to hospital, everything for the nursery and clothes, real nappies etc. My list is huge compared to some of yours, so won't post it as I'm sure people with DC already will say I don't need half of it, but I feel so happy and prepared that I have everything sorted.

Am sitting in the living room with the darts on in the back ground (my one chav concession) with DH and 2 friends who have all passed out on the sofa, snoring away. And I thought I was supposed to be the tired pregnant one? Darts is a pretty soporific sport though, I guess.

Happy new year all.

Ooooh, Love reading peoples hospital bag lists too!
I bought a mahoooooosive leather bag/weekender from m&s during the sales; was down from £199 to £59 ...but it's already full...and the baby's things arn't even in there yet! so baby will have to have another bag...
Done most of our shopping for the baby.. except some furniture bits havn't been delivered yet, and the pram hasn't been ordered yet! Dh's sis just told us today she'd go halves on the pram with us ...it will probably be a Quinny so yeaaaahhhh, saving loads to go and buy some really unnecessary, funky cloths for bubs

Anyone bought themselves stuff to use AFTER the baby arrives? I've bought myself loads of perfume gift sets, including the gorgus juicy couture and dior addict...got them for bargains in the boots sale!...it's my little way of saying "well done" to myself, as well as a pick me up me reckons

titmouse · 03/01/2009 07:29

I'm relieved to see the hospital bag lists here, thanks ladies. I am intending to have a HB but I am going to pack a bag in case of transfer, and had no idea what to put in it!

dinny · 03/01/2009 09:44

Laumiere - my first baby (dd) arrived at 35 weeks, I was so convinced the next would be the same but ds came at term plus one day!

wonder when this one will come!

CaptainKarvol · 03/01/2009 10:04

Happy new year to all.

I'm also really appreciating the hospital bag lists - got ambulanced in last time with PE, and barely had a thing - hospital were horrid because I had no nappies for baby / cotton wool for cleaning baby / maternity pads for me, so I want to be sorted this time.

EllieandOllie - have you been following Worzsel's thread about her waters too? It's wonderful news for her, and seems so close to home because of the dates. I cried (in a good way, and not for the first time, reading her news).

How many of us are convinced baby is coming early? DS was 7 days late, so I have no history of this, but this baby feels like it is trying to kick its way out of my cervix every day - I can't believe it's going to be another 10 weeks or more!

grinningbee · 03/01/2009 10:54

I've been following Worzels thread. Her EDD was one day behind me, and when I saw the pictures yesterday of little George, I cried my eyes out!

I find it so hard to believe that the wiggly thing inside me looks like that (apart from being a girl!!).

I feel so underprepared. DH is looking for work at the mo so money is tight, and all we have so far are a few little clothes. My mate is lending me a few bits like a moses basket.... I'm sure it will all fall into place before the day...

meep · 03/01/2009 12:08

dinny I am having an elective section - have got consultant approval for it (I cried on her so I think that swayed it - she reckons I must have had undiagnosed pnd with dd - so I a am on the mw's watch list this time round )! Mine will be around 23rd March!

Very impressed by the packing of hospital bags. cherrybaby - much easier to have a bag for you and a bag for the baby - and one pack of nappies lasted me for the 3 nights I was in with dd.

Anyone got any views on nighttime sanitary towels over the horrid maternity pads? I want wings - or else it just seems to leak everywhere!

Remember to pack some flip flops for toilet/shower trips - it can get pretty yuck in there (last time someone kept putting their used sanitary towels in the paper towel bin instead of the sanitary bin - horrid!)

and don't buy paper pants - they are useless and sooo much smaller than they would have you believe!!!

I would also recommend buying or hiring a Tens machine. I wasn't going to with dd - but my dh mentioned it on my due date so I thought I would just pop up to Boots and get one. Thank goodness I did - because the next day my contractions started and we didn't have any paracetomal in the house so the Tens was all I had for 2 days and it was my saviour!

lizziemun · 03/01/2009 13:40

Last time i remember paking one overnight bag to take to the hospital with enough for 1 night (can't remember what i packed ), but i packed another bag for dh to bring if i was going to be in for longer.

It was easier then taking the massive bag all 1st timers take in.

dinny · 03/01/2009 13:57

how many weeks is that, Meep? did you have a difficult first labour?

I have to say re paper pants I would recommend them, but buy massive size!! much better for first couple of days to just chuck it all in the bin

meep · 03/01/2009 14:02

I am due on the 28th dinny so only 5 days early. Had back to back first labour - 55 hours, pethidine, drip and epidural - ended with emergency c-section. TBH my biggest reason for an elective is so that I can actually remember the first few days with my baby, and can understand what is going on so that I will have a better chance of bf. I was all over the place last time and can't remember what I was told by anyone. I just want to give myself and the baby the best start I can and I honestly found the c-section to be the easiest bit of it all last time round. It's best for me and I feel higely relieved that I've got the go-ahead - so I can now relax!

auntyspan · 03/01/2009 14:48

I'm dreading the recovery time too, especially with a toddler running around. Part of me really wants to try a VB but I'm so scared about it, plus the fact that I'm measuring bigger than I was with DD1 makes me think I'm doing the right thing. I'm fairly lucky as I have a good support network around for the first few weeks after.

dinny · 03/01/2009 14:54

meep - totally understandable
as - how big was your dd? are you measuring big for dates (when you due?)

Cherrybaby · 03/01/2009 15:01

whats a cannula?

dinny · 03/01/2009 15:06

a little tube stuck in the back of your hand through which various things can be pumped

auntyspan · 03/01/2009 17:25

DD was 10lb and I'm due on the 7th March. I'm measuring "on the big side" (MW words) for my dates at the moment - possibly due to the enormous amounts of Green 7 Blacks chocolate I keep scoffing!

dinny · 03/01/2009 18:16

oooh, we are both due on 7th March, AS!

I am going to try and low carb from tomorrow to avoid loads of weight gain in this last couple of months....

meep · 03/01/2009 18:20

My body is making me cut back on nice food - I now get all my calories from Gaviscon - if not I get woken up in the middle of the night by my stomach contents sloshing into my mouth !

laumiere · 03/01/2009 18:31

Oof, meep, I think I'd prefer that, am 30w and 4d now and think DS2 has already dropped! I feel like I've got a bowling ball in my pelvis....

laumiere · 03/01/2009 18:31

auntyspan · 03/01/2009 18:32

I went into work on Friday for a couple of hours and a load of people had brought in their leftover chocolate etc for me because "we're all on diets now" so I left with three partially eaten tins of Roses and half a box of Thorntons, a tupperware of Nigella's Rocky Road stuff and half a Christmas cake! Was really touched by their generosity but now feel a bit that I have to throw it all away if I don't want it!

Dinny - I'm up for doing the low carb idea.... although not sure if I can handle the no bread thing!
