LOL Meep! I like your description of pregnancy, it sums it up nicely. And yes, I got the post-baby nighttime soaking sweats too, although I wasn't sure if this was because I was breastfeeding? Maybe everyone gets it, defo hormones whatever it is. Oh joy, something else to look forward to!

Which part of Edinburgh do you live in?

I also know what you mean about being overwhelmed/terrified at the thought of having a toddler and a newborn at the same time. I am getting strong waves of that too, because my wee one still seems like a baby to me. Although I suspect she is about to change quite a lot in the next couple of months. My DD1 is playing up a bit at the moment and I think it is because the baby is due soon. She did it last time, but at least we've been here before.

Am off to watch Eastenders cos am a saddo.

jollyjoanne · 02/01/2009 10:09

I also didn't really manage to stay awake till midnight, I think I had flunked out at about 10pm, but fortunately / unfortunately i had to get up to go to the toilet at about 11.45 so did actually manage to see the new year in - or at least the watched the big ben count down on the tv and the fireworks on the tv and outside. But it then took me another hour or so to get back to sleep - damn toilet breaks.

And now every time I step outside into the cold I need to go to the loo - it rubbish. think whilst me and my mum were walking round the shops looking at the stuff in the Xmas sales I must have been about 5 times in 3 hours! Its ridiculous and my midwife assures me it will get worse when the baby drops as she will sit on the bladder even more - I am never going to leave the bathroom!

Thought my boobs may have leaked a little the other day as I had damp patches on my nipples but not really sure - I could have spilt my tea on them instead as I have got so clumsy that I barely noticing little thibngs like spilling a drink. I manage to knock a picture (and half the wall with it) at my parents the other day - glad it wasn't anyone too important (not that my parents aren't but you know what I mean) as I would have been mortified! And today i have broken a gorgeous ceramic bowl that I got for Xmas - argggh! I hoping this doesn't happen when I have the baby - I'll be dropping her and walking her into walls and allsorts!

Oh and I am hot quite a lot of the time - not seeming hugely sweaty but may be thats becos I don't have the heating on during the day and I am not doing anything to strenuous.

Think we have bought almost everything we need - definitely all the big things. Just need stuff like towls, muslins, and bottle things - but I might get them at the last minute when i have deduced if I can manage the breastfeeding or not. I am determined to at least try it.

jollyjoanne · 02/01/2009 10:10

Oh yeah and I forgot to say 'happy new year' and best wishes to everyone!

meep · 02/01/2009 11:47

I'm in South Edinburgh slickbird - so I get all the ERI ambulances going past!

I know what you mean - my dd is still very much my baby - even though she is technically a toddler! I am going to get such a shock when no. 2 pops out - he/she will be sooooo tiny in comparision!

I had the post-baby sweats and was also told that they were "lactation" sweats - though have also been told that is was due to all the water retention I had pre-birth and it was my body getting rid of it all - lovely! Saying that when bf came to a crashing halt the sweats did ease off - so you might be right. I am thinking of investing in a waterproof sheet this time round !

jolly - unfortunately your mw is right - the weeing hgets more frequent and so much more unsatisfying!! You get to the loo desperate and the teenniest tiniest trickle comes out - soul destroying, especially 5 times a night!

Happy New Year to all!

So many posts to catch up on...

Class me under "completely disorganised and haven't got a thing ready." In addition to sorting out all of our purchases, from major to minor (but that's what January sales are for, right?), I need to get registered for antenatal classes, find a pediatrician and make sure I understand what's covered under our health insurance here. Eeeeek.

On the bright side, am just coming back from a lovely week with friends in Burgundy -- we rented a house with two other couples (one with three children) and despite everyone being down with the lurgy, had a great time. And I must confess: having decided that at 7 months all the major organs are as good as they're going to get, I did NOT say no to gorgeous raw milk cheeses and fabulous wines. The down side? I feel like I've swallowed a football and am going to fast for the next three months!

Wolfblass · 02/01/2009 12:36

Oohhh Corgi Kelly you have just made me Drool!!!!!!!!!!! I really, really, really am craving for some Combozola, Goats Cheese or Brie

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Glad to see that most people managed to stay awake.

I sauntered up to bed at 9pm, dp came up at 11.55 gave me a kiss and wished me happy new year - me?? Well i rolled over and went back top sleep

So i felt VERY ashamed - but was at work at 06.30 New Years day - i know have 5 days off yaaaaaaaay!

Only 17 shifts actaully left until Maternity leave - woohoooooooo

Wheelybug · 02/01/2009 13:36

Happy New Year everyone ! January seems very close to March doesn't it ?? I made it until Midnight but just. We had friends staying - she was pg too and DH can't drink much at the mo because of his illness/drugs so we made a sorry group really. I did have some champagne but still.....

I am 30 weeks today . Feels like another mile stone reached. Next one is two weeks time when I have another scan.

Im in the 'totally disorganised' camp. We have all the major things from dd but want to get a new mattress for the cot as ours has been under our spare room bed for 2 years and we've had loads of building work done in that time so we're a bit paranoid its full of dust !

Need to get some bits though but decided I'm waiting until Feb. DD's birthday is the end of Jan so am going to concentrate on that for now I think and then get organised for March.

MKG · 02/01/2009 13:44

Hi all. I spent yesterday making my list and putting together things for my hospital bag. I just need to find the bag and I'll be happy. I've located the infant car seat, so just need to wash it. I have the baby's outfit to wear home from the hospital, so now I just need to put everything together. I'll have to climb up into the attic and look for that stupid bag because dh keeps moving things.

If anyone needs any idea for their list I'd be happy to post mine.

Oh and my Gestational Diabetes test is coming back today, so I'm worrying about that. Hopefully it won't be too long.

OP posts:
laweaselmys · 02/01/2009 13:46

I'm also enjoying soft cheeses -

btw, you might want to get a move on with the antenatal classes corgi, the ones in my area are all booked up already! Never mind, I've got one NHS session, so I will go to that but I do feel a bit silly for having not looked into it earlier, since it would have been nice to meet other local people due at the same time as me. However, there is a sure start centre practically at the end of my road, so I will be popping down their regularly as soon as she's born and hopefully meet some people that way.

grinningbee · 02/01/2009 14:12

I would book a class soon as well. When I tried the one I wanted was full, but have managed to get one for when I'm 37 weeks! That seems to be a little close in my opinion!

MKG I'd be interested in your what to take list please, I have no clue really

Wheelybug · 02/01/2009 14:24

MKG - would be interested in your list. Although I've done it before it seems a looong time ago and I hadn't got round to packing my bags last time so DH just bought everything and the kitchen sink so want to be a bit more prepared this time.

jollyjoanne · 02/01/2009 14:50

I had asked my midwife about ante-natal classes at my last appointment and she just told me they hadn't sorted the timetable out for the new year! Fortunately I am going back to see her on Tues next week, so hopefully I can get myself sorted then. But I also have a sure start centre at the end of my road so I will just go to some of their other classes if I can't get in on the proper ante-natal ones!

MKG I would also be interested in your list - I have tried to pile a few things together but somehow I look like I am going on holiday for a fortnight not going in to hospital to have a baby (and hopefully not staying there for a fortnight!).

Oh and I stupidly weighed myself yesterday and have discovered that I have turned into a whale - I now weigh about 3 stone more than I'd like and about 1.5 stones more than I did at the start of the pregnancy - I can see a huge post pregnancy exercise regime and diet coming my way!

Happy New Year all

Am impressed that so many of you got to see in the New Year. I insisted that my DH went out to a friend's party, as I couldn't cope with the responsibility of him having a pants and boring new years eve. So I went to bed at 10 in full anticipation of a long and restful night's sleep, and then had to pretend to be pleased when he came back at 11.45 to see the New Year in with me !!!

I am sofa-bound with my SPD and PGP today - feel like something very heavy and painful is lying across my pelvis, which is a new and intriguing development. I get my crutches on Monday - hurrah!!

Don't know how many of you are following WorzselMummage's thread about her waters going at 22+4, but if you aren't I would advise having a read (I don't know how to link - it's in the pregnancy bit). It's a bit scary because I think she would have been due on this thread, but there has been a very wonderful outcome, so if you're in need of a good cheerful cry, or of reminding why we are all here, I would reccommend checking it out...

MKG - would love to see your list. I'm trying to get my head round what I need, but don't actually remember anything from last time. All i can recall wanting/needing during labour was drugs!! And i don't think they'd approve of me smuggling anything illegal in...

EllieorOllie · 02/01/2009 15:22

damn, x-post!

dinny · 02/01/2009 16:29

God, are you all doing your hospital bags????? sheeeit, haven't even thought about it yet - have bought NOTHING for this baby as yet

we did buy a 7 seater car yesterday though!

can I ask if anyone is having an elective C on this thread?

MKG · 02/01/2009 17:09

Dinny- did you decide to get one? I know you've been up and down about the delivery of this baby.

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 02/01/2009 17:11

OK, that confirms it - I still have lots to buy for labour/baby. Will do that in Feb I think as I can't get my head around it now.

Ellie - I had been following Worzel's thread. She would have been on this thread and did post near the beginning. We'd been on a conception thread called 'the hut of gloom' for people who are taking forever to conceive and I think she'd been ttc for about 2 years. I'm so pleased there's good news after all she's been through.

Dinny - I have the choice of elective c-sec or VBAC. I think I'm going VBAC at the moment but still time to change my mind.

dinny · 02/01/2009 17:57

MKG and WB - am seeing consultant on Wednesday, I feel like really pushing for one at the moment, I just feel so scared of labour

lizziemun · 02/01/2009 18:49

I'm glad you have posted your hospital bag lists as although i had dd2 16mths ago i can't remember what i need . I also need to buy new 0-3mths baby bits but again i can't remember what i need to get. As i gave eveything for 0 - 6mths away as we were not having anymore children opps .

Can also ask what you think of Charlotte Rose or Victoria Jayne for a girls name. DD1 is Elizabeth Anne and dd2 is Alexandra Grace.

MKG · 02/01/2009 18:56

I like Victoria Jayne. There seem to be a lot of Charlottes around lately.

OP posts:
auntyspan · 02/01/2009 19:24

dinny I'm having an elective c-section, been pencilled in for the 27th Feb, but depends on how I go. I was ready for a bit of a fight actually, but the consultant was very understanding and said there was no way I had to do the "trial of labour" they sometimes insist on. I was so relieved I started crying!!

Charlotte is a lovely name, I have a good friend called Lottie, I think it's a lovely shortened version.

I haven't started packing for hospital yet, although I've been making mental lists of what to pack. The nursery still isn't finished so I don't want to start getting stuff down from the loft yet....
