anybody have any kind of remedy for me? (shows a pity look)

suwoodolf · 17/12/2008 12:56

Have you tried the wristbands? I used them last time and they do take the edge of the sickness.

OonaghBhuna · 17/12/2008 13:19

Uki thats great news.
Nandos I recommend the wristbands too. Hope you can manage to keep some food down.
I am feeling rough.

cairns · 17/12/2008 13:40

the wristbands are working for me too. But a new one that I have found is sucking on a boiled sweet, it really takes the edge off and seems to stop me actually being sick, and you can easily carry them around in your pocket. It really is horrible this 'all day' sickness but it does pass (I think I was about 13wks or so last time)

Roll on the 2nd trimester, no worrying (all scans done), no MS and energy comes back

HeinzSight · 17/12/2008 13:40

nandos - coke is a GREAT help when you're feeling sick. Has to be full fat coke as it's the sugar you need, just have tiny sips.

Also second the travel sickness bands. You have to wear them all the time.

suwoodolf · 17/12/2008 13:49

preggy pops

MichaelaS · 17/12/2008 14:33

hi, welcome uki, we have a long long list now don't we? Is this normal for mumsnet or are we a bumper month? What was everyone up to in November!!!

MammaDani · 17/12/2008 14:46

Hi. Is it too late to join.

I am due 8th August 09. First pregnancy. Over the moon. So excited.
Feeling v. tired and nauseous but thankfully still no throwing up.

Can I ask, how do you all know these abbreviations for stuff - it is quite impressive. Where do I find what they all mean?

MammaDani · 17/12/2008 14:49

Also....you all seem to be having doctor's appointments already? Should I be. I went to see my GP when I found out, and she said great, told me foody do's and don'ts, asked what hospital I wanted, and said bye. Was told the hospital will be in touch in Jan to set up my first appointment. Is this wrong?

LittleFairySmile · 17/12/2008 14:53

Hi MammaDani - some of us have mc, hence early appointments. What abbreviations are you stuck on?

LittleFairySmile · 17/12/2008 14:54

Look here for some abbreviations.

LittleFairySmile · 17/12/2008 14:57

Main ones:

DH dear husband
DP dear partner
DS dear son
DD dear daughter
DC dear child
LMP last menstrual period
MC miscarriage
MMC missed miscarriage
PG pregnant

MammaDani · 17/12/2008 15:02

Hi LittleFairySmile

Thanks so much for that. Great help.
What is BFP? On a normal day I could prob figure it out but my head isn't quite what it used to be for a week or so now.

MammaDani · 17/12/2008 15:02

Ignore that - I found it. Fab. Thanks

MichaelaS · 17/12/2008 15:16

welcome mammadani, you're not too late to join at all!

Its my first pg too and my doctor didn't even tell me food dos and don'ts - so if anyone has tips I'd appreciate it! I had to ask what would happen next (apparently the hospital contact me to set something up with a midwife). So don't worry if it seems to be a bit of an anti-climax so far, i'm sure we'll get our fair share of scans come 12 and 20 weeks.

MammaDani · 17/12/2008 15:27

Hi MichaelaS.

Thanks. It's good to know it's not just my doctor. Feels so weird just waiting for someone to get in touch and not knowing exactly when they will. Can't wait for the first scan to know everything is ok. Keeping dreaming of miscarriages which is really scary.

Doc didn' say much about food - but said the following and I did some research too.

Nuts - no nuts at all she said. The general view is peanuts, but she says next year that will prob change to no nuts at all, so I am doing that.
No liver, pate etc.
No raw fish
No unpasteurized dairy products.
No undercooked or raw eggs

As soon as I found out I got all food crazy and did loads of research on what is the best stuff to eat etc, and bought loads of extra healthy bits and pieces..now I can't even face the fridge and it is lucky if I manage a bit of toast. Food is mostly no-go which is terrible and I am trying to eat here and there. Mango is my fav at the moment, could eat that all day.

and then, supplements I am taking (as recommended) Pregnacare for the Folic and Omega 3 & 6 supplements to help with the brain fog.

MichaelaS · 17/12/2008 15:56

my goodness, i dont think I can manage no nuts - I'm vegetarian so its a good source of protein for me. no history of nut allergy in either family so doubt it will be a problem to be honest.

hmm, i had the yummiest runny fried egg sarnie last week, now i'm feeling guilty.

At least i'm taking the folic acid!

LittleFairySmile · 17/12/2008 16:09

I ate nuts all through pg with DS, and he loves them too. All nuts! That concern is all about food allergies. I'm eating nuts! I'll prob. not have pate, but my Mum was advised to eat liver as it was good for her and I'm ok, so I think some food advice is 'take it or leave it' IMO! But raw eggs and meat I will be avoiding (there goes my choc. mousse!)!

LittleFairySmile · 17/12/2008 16:12

And MammaDani STAY AWAY FROM GOOGLE!!!! Nothing but scare mongering and sleepless nights there! Trust me!!!!

BabyBump2B · 17/12/2008 16:15

Hi all! Just wanted to come and say great news Uki and hi to all the newbies!

The nuts thing is really controversial. There has yet to be any conclusive study to say you pass on or create allergies so I wouldn't get too worried Michaela. If you want both sides of the argument you can google it but I've spoken to a couple of researchers who have said there is no definitive proof and its just following on from the hyper-sensitivity of the whole kid nut allergy (which isn't nearly as bad as people are made to believe!) The magazine I work for ran a story about a study that showed that a med-high percentage of parents told teachers/child minders, etc that their child had allergies even when tests proved they didn't! Makes me feel sorry for the poor kids who really do have allergies!

LittleFairySmile · 17/12/2008 16:15

I mean that in a tongue-in-cheek way, BTW, I wasn't being mean! To much research can be a bad thing. GO with your instincts from now until birth. There is too much institutionalising and fitting into averages and graphs. Every woman is different, every baby is different and pg is different!

I am about to contact doulas!!! Really want my HBAC!

Zorra · 17/12/2008 16:17

Bleurgh, still feeling sick all day. And is anyone else asleep by 9pm? Thankfully I am away (home in the UK, DP is still in the town where we live) - he was getting a bit bored of my sleepiness and now I can do 11 hours a night with no twitchy boy

I am booked in for an early scan (privately, because I have to head 'home' where the services are a bit rubbish) on Saturday - I keep feeling like I have been making up being pregnant so I am looking forward to some reassurance

How's everyone??

BabyBump2B · 17/12/2008 17:48

LittleFairySmile - Amen!

OonaghBhuna · 17/12/2008 18:26

I wouldnt eat prawns as you can never predict if they are good or bad. A friend of mine had to be taken to a&e after eating prawns when pregnant, it was so scary she came out in hundreds of spots within seconds.

Feeling rough all day.
