Hello everyone

thought i'd start the new thread since i haven't posted on the last one in a couple of days.

I'm well although my patience/tolerance/ability to smile has completely gone out of the window. I don't seem to have any patience with DD (she really is suffering) or DH. i'm moody and sulky. the only thing that seems to calm me down is a nice bath at the end of the day.

Is it all pregnancy hormones and is anyone else feeling the same!?!?!

Maternity jeans ~ has anyone found a good pair???????? I've tried a number of pairs from next and mothercare but they've all gone back! under bump seem to be the worst, they fall down all the time. The one pair i kept..{well i've got to wear something!!!!} I have to wear a belt with, and then undo it when i'm driving or sitting as it cuts me in half! Any suggestions would be appreciated!!! Good luck for your scan tomorrow Azure.

beachyhead · 18/04/2005 14:26

I think I am going to go back to Hennes on Friday and try to find some jeans......I know Cache Cache in Bluewater had some nice 3/4 length jeans over bump, but it was too cold last time I tried them on to consider them. Has anyone gone into maternity undies yet? I can't bear the idea of BIG PANTS again, but I fear that is what it is coming to!!!!!!!

colinsmommy · 18/04/2005 15:21

Ok, so I really am leaving in a few hours.

I know what you mean about being bored of your clothes, beachyhead. It was really easy to pack for my trip, as I only have 2 pairs of trousers, and am wearing DH's shirts. I got a bunch of capris and shorts, because that's usually what the weather calls for this time of year, but just got up, and there is frost all over my deck and ground. It has been really strange weather here, being warmer this winter than the past month. I'm about ready to break out my shorts out of sheer boredom with my clothes.

Unless someone else due at the end of the month has a scan still, I think I might have the honors of a late scan. I don't get mine till May 2nd.

Ok, now I've got to get ready to go. Really.

Twiga · 18/04/2005 15:44

Hi all! Colinsmommy, have a lovely time away!

I've got my scan tommorrow too, 1.45pm at just about 21 weeks (one day off). Azure, what itme are you going for yours? Glad you had a good hol in Spain. Am soooo excited, it feels an age since the last one, but the time has flown in the last couple of weeks. Think we're going to ask the sex, but keep it to ourselves, we're both too nosey to wait until the end of Aug and I think after our mc just want to feel as close to this little un as possible.

Beachy, I've been in mat undies for a wee while, since around 7 weeks on the bra front and over the last month for pants, as my normal ones were sitting funny. I'm managed to get some under bump ones in mothercare which fit pretty much like my normal ones but don't feel tight or roll down, so if you want to avoid BIG pants might be worth looking in Mothercare. So far they've been very comfy, wash well and don't look like I'm drying tents on my line . Great news re: your scan btw, blad it went well.

Azure · 18/04/2005 15:50

Twiga, my scan is at 10am, followed by an appointment with my midwife. Best of luck for yours.

I survived without special maternity knickers last time, so hope it'll be the same this time. I've bought some maternity bras - not the most attractive item of underwear, it has to be said - but am still mostly in (or bursting out of) my old underwires (which I know I should ditch).

Azure · 18/04/2005 15:51

Oh, and have a great vacation Colinsmommy.

Dazie · 18/04/2005 16:10

Good luck with scans tomorrow ladies!!

I have bought a lovely pair of under the bump jeans from Asda I cant stand the mothercare ones as they always fit oddly on me. I also have a pair of over the bump ones from Asda which are very comfy, they always have a sale on their maternity stuff so jeans are about £8!! I have bought two short sleeve tops for £6 from there to. They do a lovely range of bras, knickers and camisoles.

I had a scan last week I was a guinnea pig for the university. I lay there for two whole hours while they went from head to toe of the baby looking a various things. It was very interesting listening to what they are looking out for on twenty week scans. I had some lovely pictures to take home and hopefully a dvd coming soon!

Happy hols colinsmommy!!

kate100 · 18/04/2005 16:21

Dazie you lucky thing, your baby on film!! A star at such a young age.

Glad all the scans are going well, we're nearly all through the important milestone.

I've got some under the bump knickers from Jojo maman bebe and they are super comfy, well more shorts than knickers and most importantly they don't roll down.

My back is feeling much better, I don;t know what the oseopath did but it seems to have helped. I was very sceptical it would do anything, but I'm a convert. I'm annoyed though, I've waited in all day for the orthopaedic consultabt to ring and nothing, typical NHS organisation!!

beachyhead · 18/04/2005 16:22

My Asda doesn't do maternity stuff - I asked there....I wonder how I find out my nearest one....

What proportion of us are finding out the sex? Azure and Twiga - are you finding out tomorrow...

Twiga · 18/04/2005 17:32

Kate, that's great news about your back, long may it continue!

All the best for tomorrow Azure, wish mine was that early, feeling impatient now!

Beachy, I'm about 90% sure we'll find out, but I've promised dh we'll keep it between the two of us - that will have to include mn as we know too many folk that post on here in RL.

Not sure what the answer is on a jeans front, I'm still just about getting into my normal ones, but pretty uncomfy as they sit wrong now. I've ordered a different style from Next in a last ditch attempt with their range and if they're no good am going to try some of the mail order ones like Blooming Marvelous etc - I reckon that perfect pair of mat jeans is just around the corner ..........

Twiga · 18/04/2005 17:34

Also meant to say, wow Dazie what an opportunity - must have been pretty cool getting to spend so much time looking at your little un! Thanks for the heads up re: Asda, didn't realise they did mat stuff, will have to have a look in the ones round here to see if they stock stuff.

Twiga · 19/04/2005 12:08

Just nipping in to say been thinking about you this morning Azure, hope it has all gone well - looking fwd to hearing your chat.

Off to get the bus up to the hospital shortly, hoping dh will make it across on time - he's in theatre this afternoon but a colleague is going to scrub in part way through to let him away. Am off to work pretty much straight after althought will need to nip home for my overnight bag so if have time will up-date. If not will try either quite late on tonight or tomorrow afternoon at some point (if I have to sleep at work).

Hope everyone is having a good day, the sun has put in a welcome appearance here and it's looking lovely outside.

wilbur · 19/04/2005 12:26

Glad your back is feeling better kate100 - I love my osteopath, have found him amazingly helpful with various back problems over the last few years.

beachyhead - I'm a pregnany snorer too, soooo attractive! Still, dh snored like a train for years until he had an op to correct it, so I reckon I'm just getting my own back.

Azure · 19/04/2005 13:37

Back from scan etc. All went well - the baby was in a good position throughout. The only small blip was an indication of fluid on one kidney, which means I have to go back for a scan at 36 weeks. The measurement was borderline for whether I would have to go back at all and apparently the worst case scenario is that the baby will have to have antibiotics when born, so I'm not getting worried about that. It's definitely a boy, as indicated at my earlier scan! I then had a long wait to see my midwife and also saw a registrar about the posibility of a c-section. The registrar said that the fact that I had a third degree tear when giving birth to DS was no indicator in itself that I would tear again a second time, and so there was no automatic need for a c-section. I'll do some more reading about this, but I'm fairly sure I want a c/s this time.

Twiga, hope your scan goes well (you may be having it as I type).

K7 · 19/04/2005 13:44

My scan tomorrow - 22 weeks. I'm all undecided whether to find out the sex. Wasn't going to until a friend in the US told me how she found out. They asked the nurse to write the sex on a card and put it in an envelope for them, then she and her partner went out for dinner at the weekend, ordered a glass of champagne each and opened the envelope together. I think that sounds quite nice... My mum says I shouldn't, DH would like to know, but I'm not sure I can trust him not to put his foot in it for the next four months. Only 24 hours to make my mind up! Eep!

Twiga · 19/04/2005 15:07

Azure, I'm really glad your scan went well . Hope you're not worrying too much about the kidney thing.

Had an amazing time at my scan, baby was pretty wriggly so it took a while to get all the measurements and see everything, but all is well. The sonographer was just lovely and initially concentrated on reassuring us that everything was ok with the tummy and cord - I was born with an exomphthalos which is when some of the internal organs/bowels are outwith the body in wee sacs there are varying degrees of severity and means an op imediatly after birth - in our case it would be an indicator for a genetic condition known as Beckwith Weiderman syndrome - so good news is all clear!!! We saw baby sucking it's fingers and yawning - wow! I understand now why I've been feeling movement so early on and so frequently - baby seems to like lying with its legs right up over its head and pushing up the way from the knees. It's just been an amazing afternoon .

Right better grab my bag and head off to work, take care x

Twiga · 19/04/2005 15:07

K7 have a great time tomorrow!

Dazie · 19/04/2005 15:10

Azure not sure your reasons for wanting a c-section but I was allowed one for my second as DS was 9 pounds 4 they told me at a final scan that dd would definetly be big so I didnt want to go through the truama again (I had a ventouse and episiotmy which was terrible and left me in pain for months afterwards). Dd decided to come the night before the c-section was booked and I went through with a natural birth, I did tear quite badly and had to have lots of stiches but it was no where near as bad as last time lots of room for her! I was out within six hours and home with my family. In actual fact she was a tiny 6 pounds 2 to my relief! I can completely understand you wanting a c-section it frightened me to death the thought of going through it all again but here I am for a third time I must be mad!!

Dazie · 19/04/2005 15:13

Glad the scans went well Azure and Twiga!!

Good luck for tomorrow K7!!!

Azure · 19/04/2005 17:02

Twiga, glad the scan went well. Did you find out the sex (even if you're not telling?) K7, best of luck for tomorrow - go on, find out the sex (ok, I'm just nosey!). Dazie, thank-you for your story. I guess I am scared about going through the trauma of a natural birth again - if only we could know whether if was going to be a lot easier second (or third!) time around. I need to give it some more thought.

I've just spent the afternoon at hospital with a colleague of mine, who is 20 weeks and had some bleeding early afternoon. I was impressed that the hospital was able to see her really quickly, and everything seems fine with her baby, thank goodness. It was nice to see another scan this afternoon, after my scan this morning.

kate100 · 19/04/2005 19:51

Glad the scans went well, Azure, my friends daughter had that and had antibiotics after she was born and it's fine now. In fact she loved the taste of the medicine!!

I spoke too soon, my back is killing me today. The osteopath thinks that it is disc damage and not my pelvis twisting, he thinks the only way to cure it is rest. I think it's going to be a very long wait till the end of this pregnancy. At least the consultant has recognised that my case is urgent, his secretary rang and told me that he wanted to see me urgently, but she 'didn't do appointments' so she'd had to pass it on!!! Madness, but hopefully it should come through in the next week or so. In the meantime, sitting on my aching a*se doing nothing and having some acupuncture for the pain.

josey · 19/04/2005 20:35

glad all the scans have gone well - wish my hospital did them at 20weeks really feel like im missing out on something

kwym with the maternity jeans/trousers i have been sewing buttons on also and the under bump jeans are becoming a nightmare hoping when get bigger they will maybe stay up if not will have to reslut to a pair of braces (if you can still buy such a thing) im very greatful that i dont appear to be having a knicker issue as everything in that area is still the same size long my it last

blossom2 · 20/04/2005 10:55

HI everyone

Whats the weather like where you are??

i've just started to feel really BIG - huge and my bust seems to have just exploded. i'm sure i've gone up yet another size!!

Did i tell you guys about my hospital visit?? we didn't get a tour of the place. was stuck in a lecture theatre for 1.5hrs, heating on full blast and a NUN giving us a powerpoint presentation about the place!!! she was funny though but it was a long evening. Luckily i'd brought water, but there were 24 other women there (with partnes) who did not!! poor things.

Anyway, the epildural (i think thats how its spelt) is 96%!!!!!

wilbur · 20/04/2005 11:54

A nun, blossom2! How excellent! I'd so want to say to her that I bet she's glad she doesn't have to go through all this! Crap they didn't give you a proper tour tho, I think it really helps to see the rooms and the layout, so there's no confusion when you're actually going in.
Off upstairs to sort out babyclothes this afternoon - I have so many, from ds and dd, it's quite , mostly bought by my MIL I must add. I just need to remind myself of what I've got, get rid of the stuff I didn't like anyway, and earmark things that can be sold depending on what this one turns out to be. It's going to be a long job....

beachyhead · 20/04/2005 13:07

What a nice job, Wilbur - I can't wait to get my hands on the baby clothes, but I am being very good and waiting until 28 weeks. A friend of a friend has offered to sell me her pushchair, but she bought it for 200 pounds and wants to sell it for 100. I think that's quite steep, considering its done a full baby turn already. Has anyone priced up potential prams/pushchairs yet and anyone know if the 'best of' on MN are updated regularly - the write ups weren't really dated.....

I need a pushchair that can either go flat for from birth or has a carry cot addition, then it turns into a pushchair. 3 wheeler would be good as the walk to school is across a heath (plus dh more likely to push it if it doesn't have 'squitty little wheels' ....his words......
