Hello everyone

thought i'd start the new thread since i haven't posted on the last one in a couple of days.

I'm well although my patience/tolerance/ability to smile has completely gone out of the window. I don't seem to have any patience with DD (she really is suffering) or DH. i'm moody and sulky. the only thing that seems to calm me down is a nice bath at the end of the day.

Is it all pregnancy hormones and is anyone else feeling the same!?!?!

I forgot - good news about the scans and hope you don't worry about the fluid on the kidney, Azure.....

Why a nun.....is it a religious type hospital....surely, she must be the least equipped person in the world to have that kind of talk with!!!!!

K7 · 20/04/2005 13:45

Just had my scan this morning. Looks like a very dramatic baby - kept mopping its brow with the back of its hand in a rather actor-y way, and then covered its ears at one point when the nurse spoke. And as for the sex, they didn't tell us! Bah!

Azure · 20/04/2005 13:49

LOL about a nun giving a talk on childbirth. Beachyhead, £100 does sound a little steep, but I'm certainly no expert. I'm hoping to get a second-hand pram/carrycot this time around - I would only use it for 6 months max before just using a pushchair and so can't justify the expense of a new one. When I had DS we lived in a flat up some stairs, so it'll be a joy this time to be in a house.

Azure · 20/04/2005 13:50

K7, how cute about the baby's movements - glad it went well. I guess the dilemma over finding out the baby's sex was solved for you.

beachyhead · 20/04/2005 15:50

I know what you mean about dramatic movements - we were trying to check girly's lips for cleft lip, but she kept putting her hand up to the camera - looked like she was pushing away the parapazzi.......... the sonographer sighed ' yes, we know you have 5 fingers....'

I just hope she wasn't mouthing - talk to the hand as the ears ain't listening -

josey · 20/04/2005 19:49

Blossom2 a NUN!!!lol hahaha thats the best thing i have heard in ages!!!

awww to all the baby movements and love the talk to the hand!! I'm sure mind had hicups this morning though might be a bit early cant remember its a very weird feeling though.

I have see a new pram its the new graco quattro delux travel system it comes with carrycot car seat and base in the shop near me it came in at £250ish and that includes a raincover also which i thought was all very reasonable very easy to fold. and my DH likes it probably cause it had a digital clock and thermometer on the handle boys toys eh!!

Beachyhead i think the £100 is high expectations on your friend of a friends behalf.

mother and baby mag has a 3 wheeler test drive report in it.

Twiga · 21/04/2005 09:33

Great sounding scan K7 - lol at the dramatic baby ! Yours sounds very cute too Beachy!

Kate, sorry to hear that your back is bad again .

Azure, we did find out the sex - didn't have a preference either way but very pleased with what we're getting! It's great having a wee secret between the two/three of us!

Went to an early ante-natal class yesterday, it was taken by a phsio and was mainly about posture, safe lifting, pelvic floors etc. Really enjoyed the class, good to know I'm not the only one with aches and pains - hips have been really sore this week and also the bone at the front of my pelvis is feeling bruised too. Was also interesting seeing other pg people (hope that doesn't sound odd) think most were on their second at least and although I was the furthest along I was amongst the smaller bumps in the group.

Twiga · 21/04/2005 09:35

Blossom, your hospital visit sounds surreal! Hope you were able to get a good idea of thngs from the presentation.

kate100 · 21/04/2005 12:08

Blossom2 a NUN!!! What on earth were the hospital thinking!?

Glad that all the scans went well, love the thought of baby pushing the camera away, specially as my DS smiles instantly as soon as a camera is near.

I've been trying to rest as much as possible, DS is being very helpful, he takes all the dishes out of the dishwasher and passes them to me to put away. Of course if it would be good if he was as good about putting his toys away, I can't actually see the carpet at the moment.

wilbur · 21/04/2005 15:51

beachyhead - three wheelers are great but they can take up a lot of car boot space - do check the size when folded if this might be an issue. BIL and wife have a very lovely middle range Mamas and Papas travel system with carrycot which they love (and it looks very cool and sturdy) and found very useful for naps early on. We like our Graco fine (4 yrs old now so I'm out of touch with the new Graco mentioned), but it didn't have a carrycot, just folded flat from birth and I never felt it was that cosy for newborns. Babyclothes mountain lessening in the attic, still got the North face to climb tho!

beachyhead · 21/04/2005 15:56

Thanks Wilbur - we are having to look at getting a people carrier anyway, but I'll test them all for folding size (also how hard they are to work out how to fold).....have you done a Thomas' tour yet? do you know when they are? I'm back there on FRIDAY 13th (Scary) for another scan, when I'll be 25 weeks.....

Miaou · 21/04/2005 16:05

Anyone thinking of not getting a buggy/pram to start with? Dh and I have decided to just get a car seat and use our baby bjorn sling for a while, then see if we can go from that to a buggy when the baby is a few months old. I am slightly sceptical - if I have back trouble then it will be a no-go - but haven't got a history of back trouble so am willing to forgo the clutter and expense if we can.

kate100 · 21/04/2005 16:13

Miaou, I'd think about a pram. I had DS at the same time of year as this and the thought of strapping him to me was unbearble. I didn't use the baby carrier until the end of september!! Just something to think about.

At least the decision for us os easier this time, there's only about 5 double prams to choose from!!

wilbur · 21/04/2005 16:18

Beachy - I did a tour of Tommy's when I was preg with dd and I also sit on a committee there so I know it quite well now! I think the tours are on Tuesday nights. They're well worth it, as the giving birth floor can be a bit confusing as they have the "Hospital Birth Centre" and the "Home From Home Birth Centre" - why they are both called birth centre I'll never know. Make sure to see the garden room in the corner of the HFH - it's got an amazing view up the river! I don't have to go back to the hosp now for a while, which is nice, just see the community team.

Miaou · 21/04/2005 16:29

Hmm... that's a thought Kate. However I live in the Highlands so heat isn't such a major problem here!

beachyhead · 21/04/2005 17:04

Thanks Wilbur - I'll be having an elective CS so I'm not sure where I'll be afterwards - I was just worried that the wards would be hugely big and noisy - a friend had her baby there last year and paid for a private room, but it was £500 a night!!!! I'd have to be pretty desparate to fork out that much, but if the wards were 10 to a ward, I might consider it......

I was lucky at Kingston before - everyone had their own room or there was a small ward of 4 immediately post delivery......

Azure · 22/04/2005 10:09

Miaou, when I had DS we bought a pushchair that could be used from birth (a Maclaren Techno), as we didn't want the expense of an additional system and didn't have much room. We mostly used a sling in the first couple of months anyway, so this solution really worked for us. Having said that, this time around I'm tempted to get a second-hand pram / carrycot for the first few months just because we've got more room, but I don't think it's worth paying too much for this limited period of time.

fatbirdtoo · 22/04/2005 11:18

Hi all, where has this HUGE bump come from??? DP thinks i've swelled up in the last few days! was getting away with pregnancy look until 'bout a week ago- now I look huge! Am 25 wks now. I was tiny with ds until the last month as I was so ill, and he weighed 9lb 3 1/2ozs! Am feeling a bit concerned about how much i'm gonna swell!!

Kate- glad u got yr little one to help u with dishwasher, LOL 'bout the toys though! Have u asked about using a TENS machine for your back? I got mine from the pain specialist clinic and can use it up until wk 30 ish. Its been pretty good so far (with painkillers too).

Thanks Dazie, must check out Asda's range as soooo bored with same pair of jeans! Your scan sounded wonderful, a DVD too! - will you be selling copies to family and friends!!!

Am too thinking bout a second hand pram/pushchair as only used it for bout 8mths with ds before buying a lightweight buggy. I quite fancy that 'Quinny zapp' for later on as it seems to fold so small, don't think its got a basket bit though and I like to have somewhere to put all the gear. Don't know about the pram/pushchair/car seat bit though- its all so technical! Advice welcome as haven't got a thing of ds's left as he's nearly a teenager!

kate100 · 22/04/2005 17:41

Fair point about the weather, miaou, but I hope you get some sun this summer!!

We've decided to get a mamas and papas pramette, for when DS isn't with us or when he's on his buggy board. I'm hoping that this means we won't have to buy a buggy later on as it fold up really small and is quite light. DS's maclaren is really tatty now and I'm quite embarassed about it, whereas the M+P pram from last time is still in really good condition, but I didn't like pushing it with the car seat on as it was top heavy, so we're having a new one suitable from birth. Oh,and a double buggy ... but they are the only things that we need to buy, we don't even need clothes, so I guess I can splash out on transport.

Fatbirdtoo, I hadn't thought about a TENS machine. I had one in labour with DS and it was great, I'll see about getting one. I'm finding to so hard to take it easy like I've been told to. I'm used to such an active life, I'm going to turn into a big lardy blob. I'll look like a weeble by the time the baby comes!!!!

blossom2 · 24/04/2005 19:52

HI everyone ... what a weekend!!!

I'm 27 weeks now and feel really big. although bump is mainly to the front. What is everyone else taking for their backache? i've got mild symptons compared to everyone else but can i just take paracetomal??

Okay - got an personal physical question (and a little dense) for you now. When do you know you need a bigger bra?? I'm getting pains under my right breast. Do you think i need a bigger bra??

OP posts:
tiggerintum · 24/04/2005 19:54

I'm popping out of mine right now!! your boobs shouldn't be bulging at the top and the bottom should be against your skin. (you shouldn't be able to look down between your boobs and see your belly!!) when are you due???

leahbump · 24/04/2005 19:57

Hi Blossom,

I used to fit maternity bras years ago (worked for blooming marvellous!) and I know if the bra rides up at the back it's too big and I would say that discomfort and very red marks left on the skin mean new bra!! Personally I would go and get measured and see if you are measuring much bigger.....I have found m&s measure really well (not so impressed with mothercare!!).

As for the pain...I am doing hot baths and the odd paracetamol when really necc.

HTH

ps- hope everyone else is ok, as the thread is quiet at the mo!!

leahbump · 24/04/2005 19:58

agree about the buldging too!!

Twiga · 24/04/2005 20:25

Hey all, things here fine although I think the old hormones are starting to kick in, been feeling really tearful over nothing for the last coule of days and just generally down. Pretty fed up with trying to get trousers, have sent another two pairs back via Next today as the fit is no good - think I'm going to have to give up on the under bump thing and go for the Simon Cowel look.

Away to Edinburgh tomorrow until tuesday night as dh has surgical exams there. Hoping to buy our pram while we're there - Mamas & Papas Ultima in Retro sport still undecided on which chassis though. Will have a look at the mat clothes whilst in store, maybe just maybe I'll get lucky on the rouser front!

blossom2 · 24/04/2005 22:06

thanks for the advice girls. I'm riding up at the back, not bulging at the top and can't see my stomach from the middle!! And i'm only getting the pain on my right breast, not my left which is strange. But i'm back in London on the 14 May so i'll get myself measured then. I only get the discomfort in the evening, but it doesn't seem to go away once i take the bra off. Maybe its a breathlessness thing - which i'm feeling quite abit now.

BUt thank you and i will get myself measured
