Hello everyone

thought i'd start the new thread since i haven't posted on the last one in a couple of days.

I'm well although my patience/tolerance/ability to smile has completely gone out of the window. I don't seem to have any patience with DD (she really is suffering) or DH. i'm moody and sulky. the only thing that seems to calm me down is a nice bath at the end of the day.

Is it all pregnancy hormones and is anyone else feeling the same!?!?!

I'm so cross, I've been diagnosed with sciatica. I can barely move with the pain. It's in my back and all down my leg. It serves me right for saying that I felt so well. My GP says that it will get worse before it gets better, but it should go after I have the baby. Suddenly this pregnancy seems a whole lot longer. He's referred me to a physio and an orthopaedic surgeon and signed me off work for 2 weeks. I feel as if I've barely been there during this pregnancy. But the worst thing is that I can barely pick up DS, I have no idea how I am going to manage to care for him properly. I'm very upset and down about the whole thing. Anybody had this and able to offer any advice?

Oh well, apart from that I'm fine and DH is being very understanding, do you think he'll feel the same when the baby is finally born?!! After such a miserable post let me share some entertaining news, I got stuck on the bed at the doctors!! I lay back so he could check my reflexes and my nerves and then I couldn't get up, the poor man had to roll me off the bed and thenput my shoes back on for me!!

beachyhead · 12/04/2005 13:26

Poor you Kate - this is going to be a very long 4 months.........I hope you can get some help so that your life can carry on a little bit normally.....

No, I did miscarry, but much earlier and twice.... No, I had major placenta previa and pre-eclampsia with my first child, delivering at 31 weeks, so I am paranoid about delivering a very prem baby which will either not survive or will have major problems going forward.....

I'm on all sorts of vitamins and hopefully lots of scans, but you never really know what your care will be like or what you will need until it all happens....plus this time I am at Tommy's, whereas I had my last two at Kingston (which I found fantastic, although I know there have been some horror stories about it on MN)......

So legs crossed till June for me
I might start reflexology soon just to keep my blood pressure low and to get me through this anxious bit.......

Other than that, feel fine and I feel very sorry for all of you out there with big time aches and pains......

Dazie · 12/04/2005 15:00

Sorry to hear you are unwell again kate!!!

Well I have been at the clothes bags and sorted into various piles ready to be washed nearer the time. Its a bit early but we have been having a clear out so it seemed like a good idea to get that sorted. I dont expect I will feel much like staying in doors sorting clothes out when the sunny weather arrives!

I have a scan or scans on thursday as dh works at a uni where they train midwives and radiographers so I am going to be their guinnea pig for the afternoon I just hope they dont ask me to hold my wee in all afternoon!!!!

Will be thinking of you twiga next tuesday for your scan v exciting!!

Miaou · 12/04/2005 15:20

Hi everyone, all quiet in the Miaou household atm. Colinsmommy, sorry to hear about your fall, sounds very scary. However I had to lol about your boobs getting in the way of your golf game....

Kate, you poor thing. I am suffering from a bit of backache atm so god only knows what you are going through. I wish I had some helpful suggestions but I don't!

I haven't bought a thing for this baby yet. I have amassed some passed-on bits, and dh and I keep looking for a cot but haven't quite committed ourselves yet. And I have knitted a couple of cardies/hats etc - just not paid out any money yet! We are going for washable nappies and I had intended to buy them by now.... Keep thinking I'm terribly disorganised but then remind myself that I've got a while yet.

Can't believe we're almost in the third trimester now!!! This one has gone so fast for me - bet the next one doesn't!

josey · 12/04/2005 18:24

hi everyone - welcome to the new girls.
hope your ok collinsmommy cant say im clumsy but i am doing very weird things like looking for the milk in the cloak cupboard and getting annoyed that its not there.
kate100 i really feel for you I have had that before though not when pg - hope your Dr is wrong and it goes before the end of you pg and you dont have to suffer to long.
I have had probably one of the worst weeks of my life... i wont bore you all with details but i discovered that my X ds's father has been up to no good when he has ds and i have had to put a report through social work, unfortunately noone is able to help me and i apparently have no rights to protect my wee boy,dh is still away at work so all i have done is cry be sick and sit watching ds sleep all night - oh well just one more hurdle to face

blossom2 · 12/04/2005 18:41

Joesy - don't know what to say re: ds's father. I hope it all get sorted out soon.

I've got backache as well, especially after i've done some walking. And i'm going to the toilet even more during the night now. But no where nearly as bad as everyone elses.
I hope the pain goes away soon.

I'm really impressed with everyone's ability not to spend loads on baby/maternity stuff. I've gone mad twice now and DH is threatening to take away my creditcard.

Hope everyone feels better soon.

Josey - - sending you (((((((((hugs))))))))))))

kate100 · 13/04/2005 08:37

Josey, I don't know what to say, it makes my aches and pains seem very insignificant. I can't offer any real advice as I have no experience, but I would keep on and on until someone did something to help.

K7 · 13/04/2005 11:20

Josie, maybe it's worth trying to talk to Citizen's Advice? They were great when a friend has a similar problem - they should be able to tell you what your rights are. Social services aren't too hot on stuff like that, as you often see in the press. Just give them CA a call and see if you can sound them out - you shouldn't have to put up with this kind of worry. Good luck.

wilbur · 13/04/2005 11:41

Sorry to hear things are bad fo you josey - hope someone can help you soon. Hugs.

Kate - I'm joining you on the back problem trail. Been on hols for a week which was lovely but did too much swinging dd and ds around on the pool, followed by a v. uncomfortable plane journey and now I am in agony. Been flat on my back for 2 days (thankfully MIL has been able to have the kids for a couple of days) but it doesn't seem to be getting much better. Grrr. It's extra annoying because apart from the back I feel really fine, well and rested from hols and raring to get going with house/garden stuff that I want to do before baby arrives. So other August ladies (and welcome to the new ones too ) - be careful for your backs! Osteo told me that relaxing ligament hormones kick in around 20 weeks so that's when people are most likely to do themselves an injury.

josey · 13/04/2005 18:21

thank everyone - K7 there isnt anything CA can tell me that a solicitor already hasnt, had to report it to ss as i need back up along with the fact if ds had mentioned it at school like he did to me then i would be under investigation. as i went to court before to try and get access refused due to a consern along these lines if i refused access again i could have a nice jail sentence haha its great isnt it!! DH is home today so i dont feel so scared and alone.

im sorry so many of you are having back problems i will be glad when i eventualy get to finish work im getting so uncomfortable sitting in a chair all day.

KMS · 13/04/2005 21:26

Josey - sorry to hear you are having to go through this right now. Wish I could offer some helpful advise but I hope a {{hug}} and i am thinking of you will help.

Sorry to hear about the sciatica kate100 hope you get some relief soon, when you get to see the physio etc.
hope everyones back pain gets better, put your feet up guys! you are allowed to.

My physio has put me on crutches now I have been trying to avoid this and I'm so upset about it. I burst into tears when I was there and DH got the worst of it when I got home. She said if things don't improve "They will put you on bed rest!" Not quite sure who "they" are, but it scared me enough to start using the crutches. Also been put onto co-codamol at night for the pain. I am really worried about taking codeine but GP said, me in pain, was worse for the baby. Being refered to obstiotrician for more help with the pain relief as I don't want to use the co-codamol for too long. I wonder if a TENS may help? I will try anything!

Twiga · 14/04/2005 09:57

sending KMS, Katie and Josey [hugs], sorry you're having such a rotten time of it.

Josey I hope things get sorted out very quickly for you and your ds, make sure to keep a written/dated record of all contact with ss and of your concerns. I'm suprised they're not being more use, they have a duty of care if nothing else which they should follow up on .

Well not a lot new here, still sore at nights but it comes and goes, and compared with some of your guys on here I really can't complain. Baby is such an active wee bundle, am loving feeling movement. Work has been completely useless, they've decided that it isn't a need to transfer me after all - despite a kid trying to trip me on the stairs over my weekend shift although to be fair he was put up to it and didn't really realise what a stupid thing he was doing. On a plus note they have decided to look into changing my hours so I don't finish so late at night and into taking me off the sleep-in part of my shifts altogether - I'm not holding my breath! Thank goodness I'm now off for four days!

fatbirdtoo · 14/04/2005 11:03

Hi to all, It's not supposed to be like this~ is it girls??? We're in the the second trimester when the books say we should be blooming!!!!!!! That's why we're feeling down! I think we all try to do so much~ work/kids/family's/running a house etc etc. We can be pretty tough on ourselves at this time too. Josey- you must be worried sick. I hope that you can sort things out as quickly as possible. you must want to wrap your ds up and protect him from the world. He can get through this knowing that he can trust his mum and that she shows him her love.....sending you ...
To KMS..and Kate100, I have to take painkillers for a neck/back injury- I worried like u about my baby but agree with your GP that u in pain is worse for your baby so best we follow advice! I have researched effects of painkillers on the net but haven't found bad stuff about yours or mine-hope that helps! P.s I also use a T.E.N.S machine when I can get someone to help me put it on!!!!!
I'm starting to get really excited now about having a new little one in my life, I haven't really indulged the thought up until now as things have been a bit shaky in pgcy so far, but went to play with prams/pushchairs the other day, also looked at nursery designs etc. It cheered me up and made me feel much more positive! The C4 programme was just amazing....so much achieved already by our babies- did anyone else see it??? x

BunInTum · 14/04/2005 16:14

Hi girls

just been reading through your posts, so much going on! My thoughts r with those of ya having a tough time, keep ya chins up.

I must say, I just want my pregnancy to hurry up and end now and I'm only 23 weeks - dont know how i'm gonna get myself through the next 4 months, I think not having a partner is beginning to take its toll on me. I know it sounds silly cos it should be such an enjoyable time but the bigger I get the more unattractive I feel and its hard knowing there's no-one to share it with.

I want to go shopping and buy lots of nice things, has anyone come across a nice pram pref 3 wheeler which has a carrycot and is light? I have looked a lots and just dont seem to be able to find one that suits my needs.

Am glad everyones scans have gone well, its a relief to get them all out of the way isn't it.

nic2004dave · 14/04/2005 17:08

hi sorry not been here for a few days my husband came home for the weekend so i enjoyed spending time with him had some bad news fom the doc says i have placenta preavia but i still have time for it to move and i have also trapped some nerves in my back which are affecting my legs so the doc has put me on extra rest not allowed to walk anywhere or sit in the same postition for a long time and im not allowed to carry anything never mind im quite happy in myself if not a bit bored cos i cant do much the pain isnt too bad nothing i cant handle im ok if i stay still but like i said boring
you'll be happy to know that i too am fat and also my dh said i have started to waddle like a duck but i dont mind cos he said he thinks its cute
im also happy to say my husband thinks im sexy even with the bump and he proved this to me while he was at home so at the mo no i dont feel so bad .my back will be better when the baby comes and im sure my placenta will move it just means i get lots of extra scans and i get to see her on tv so im looking on the bright side im trying not to think about a possible c section im just keeping my fingers crossed

kate100 · 15/04/2005 17:16

Hi all, went back to the GP today as the pain had got a lot worse and he's trying to get the orthopaedic surgeon to see me urgently, as it's deteriorated and he's been on to the physio's to try and rush that through as well. Went to a osteropath this afternoon on the advice of a friend and she was great, she thinks that the pregnancy has loosened my pelvis and twisted my sciatic nerve causing the pain, but she's pretty positive that she can do something about it. So hopefully with all those different things going on I should recover. It's so annoying, because apart from the constant pain in my bum and legs, I feel great. If it weren't for this I might even be blooming.

Oh and just to make you all laugh, I got undressed at the osteopaths and as she examined my spine she said, 'you do know you've got your knickers on inside out, don't you?' oops

colinsmommy · 15/04/2005 19:55

Sorry to hear about that Kate. Hope they can do something to at least help with the pain.

Been to the Dr. today also. Quite uneventful. Now I just have to wait until the 2nd, and will finally get my ultrasound. DH isn't sure if he is going to come, he didn't with DS. He's positive that the second he looks at the screen, he's going to be able to tell what sex the baby is. MIL is going to come, as she will be down for my birthday. She said she's never "heard" an ultrasound before, so I figured I'd invite her so she can see what they're all about.

Miaou · 15/04/2005 20:14

Kate and nic, for you, this is supposed to be the best bit, isn't it?

Colinsmommy (I always want to shorten your name to cm, then remember what it stands for on the conception boards!!!), I think that's really nice of you to invite your MIL along to the scan - I took my mum and she was overwhelmed by the experience, it blew her away.

I saw the midwife yesterday - she had to take blood because I've got protein in my sample, so she is querying gestational diabetes - however I'm not overworried atm as I put sugar on my Weetabix before I went for my appointment and I'm pretty sure that's all it is!

She also told me the baby's heartbeat was 140bpm - is there any truth in the rumour that it's 140ish for a boy and 160ish for a girl? I didn't want to find out the sex but now I can't help but wonder...it's driving me mad now.

colinsmommy · 15/04/2005 20:49

I wonder the same thing about the heartbeat, Miaou. Mine's 140 also. I "know" its a boy even though I haven't had a scan and we're not going to find out also. Oh, and if you want to call me cm, I know what it is on the TTC boards, but I always think of it as centimeter.

Azure · 16/04/2005 20:06

Hi to everyone and welcome to the newbies. I've just got back from two weeks in the south of Spain. The weather was great and we had a fabulous time. I feel so relaxed not being at work, especially as a stressful few months are coming up. Unfortunately, DS has developed what I assume is chickenpox the last 2 days. It doesn't seem to be bothering him too much at the moment, thank goodness. I have my scan on Tuesday, which I'm desparate to get through just to make sure everything is alright.

colinsmommy · 17/04/2005 19:57

Just popping in for a quick hi. Leaving on vacation for the week. We're taking the in-laws with us and renting a house in this resort-like area. They will be babysitting Colin for us, so we can go golf, since it will be the last trip in a long time we will probably take. Hope everyone is doing well!!

Miaou · 17/04/2005 20:03

Have a great time, cm. Hope your boobs don't get in the way too much

beachyhead · 18/04/2005 10:41

Had my 20 week scan on Friday and all is fine - its the right size and more girly than boyey!!!So I am massively relieved. I have another one booked for 24 weeks with the consultant as they are doing Doppler scans to try to predict pre-eclampsia as well - I don't know whether he saw something to concern him on Friday or he is just being super cautious, but this is an extra scan thrown in for good luck....so we going to have another peek underneath to see if it is a girl or a boy for sure then.....

Feeling very happy and not ill at all - SOOOO bored with my two pairs of trousers that I might have to splurge on more clothes.

My wedge cushion is lovely for propping up my bump - apparently I have also started snoring which is very common with pregnancy, so dh is not a happy man.......

Happy Monday to all of you and good luck for Tuesday Azure (are you the last 20 week scanner here or are there more to come?)

Azure · 18/04/2005 12:57

Beachyhead, great news about your scan (and nice to get another one!). I think someone else has a scan tomorrow as well as me - I'll be 22 weeks on Thursday so my scan is a little late.

I could winge forever about maternity trousers. Of the new casual pairs I have bought this time around, I have already had to sew new buttons back on two and the strap device on a third is so pathetic, the trousers don't stay up. Not to mention the inadequacies of under-the-bump jeans. It annoys me when clothes are so poorly designed and made. I brought a pair of trousers for work a month ago and, to my shame, haven't yet taken them to the dry-cleaners to be taken up yet (they are way too long) - I really must get around to it.
