MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.

MrsMcClaus - I would be equally gggrrrr. It's not often I express a strong wish, so to be ignored would be infuriating. Especially, if you had put together a list for guidance. Why don't you give your MIL pyjamas two sizes too big next year for Christmas so she gets your point, equally strongly! She might pay more attention next time?

17 weeks today. 2.1 hasn't moved since Christmas so I assume it is still recovering from the super strength brandy butter I couldn't resist having on my Christmas Pudding. Have been eating lots of yummy (hard) cheeses and having crazy dreams as a result. Last night the most horrible big black hairs were growing on my chin - ouch!

Have eaten far too much - crisps and chocolates etc and jumped on the scales to discover I am now 80 kilos, which almost gave me a heart attack. That means 5.5kg since the start and 2kg of that in the past 10days!!!!! DP threatening to burn maternity clothes from last pregnancy that he hates and I am discovering that I am no longer a size 14 and my bum has become very ...well....ample!!!

It's hard to diligently return to apples and salads over New Year isn't it

MrsMcClaus · 28/12/2008 20:13

Hi llynnnn my 20 week scan is on 15th Jan. Will be glad when that is over and done to be honest, I don?t want to rush the pregnancy away but it is all such a worry isn?t it?

Daisy ? if you can?t indulge when you are pg when can you hey?! I have to admit, I was still bored of some of my mat clothes when I unpacked them from last time round! That said, I am wearing my lovely Isabella Oliver dress out for lunch tomorrow and I can?t wait to wear it again, I felt great in it last time B2 seems to like Thai food, she?s rolling around in appreciation!

Come on ladies, confess, who has bought what for their babies?!

MrsMcClaus · 28/12/2008 20:27

Ladies, have you seen this? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/673172-Just-found-this-for-all-you-pg-ladies-and-thought

flynn1984 · 28/12/2008 20:43

Mrsmcclaus so far I have been given a crib (used once by my baby niece) a silvercross ventura car seat and a graco swing for the baby. We have painted the nursery and ordered new curtains for it
I am trying to decide whether to buy a nursing chair like this
DH and I have decided not to buy any clothes until after our 4d scan on 13th March when we'll know for def what we are having.

Oh and my 20 week scan is on 4th feb...5 weeks and counting

flynn1984 · 28/12/2008 20:58

oh and I meant to say I got my job in the council now there for 23 months and will get full entitlement to all mat pay and leave
thanks again for all of you kind wishes and good lucks!

llynnnn · 28/12/2008 22:52

yay congratulations Flynn!! thats great news!

thanks for the link mrsmcclaus, sounds good to me!!
i know what you mean about the scan though, it is a worry, i always try to think of just finding out the sex (i am very excited about this!) rather than concentrating on all the othe things they are looking for!!

all we've bought so far is a sling and a new baby swing. if this little one is a girl we really dont need much at all as we still have ALL dd's things stored away!

daisy - I too have eaten FAR too much this week! i darent get weighed at all so think you are very brave!! touch wood, fingers crossed etc but this is probably going to be the last time i'm pregnant so i'm enjoying it! haha!! i'll be the size of a house by the end

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 29/12/2008 09:52

Right.... I've just weighed myself and I've put on rather a lot over the Christmas break... mmm.... Have decided that enough is enough and am going to start up Slimming World as I did it afer DS and lost the weight and more. I'm only doing it to limit the weight gain, as opposed to losing weight. I've got the email with all the stuff about how to do it if anyone wants it.

Great news on your job Llynnnn - What a relief!

And that link for the £190 is fab! Woo hoo! That'll buy lots of fruit and veg!

Hi everyone. I've just been going through DD's baby clothes to see which we can use for bump (boy), and... it's all pink!

Out of the whole bunch, there are a few white bodies and purple tops that can sort of be worn by a boy, and that's it. Even the babygros are all pink.

First time mums: Don't do what we did and go wild on pink. Blues can still be worn by girls.

CoteDAzur · 29/12/2008 11:27

Even the pram is all bright pink! Luckily, Bugaboo do spares of the colored bits so will be getting sand colored tailored fabric soon.

bigcar · 29/12/2008 12:33

Hope everyone had a good christmas!

Happy birthday MrsMcClaus! I can totally sympathise on the ils and clothes, dh always gets a jumper from his parents. He doesn't feel the cold, so very rarely wears a jumper, other than boxing day to ensure he looks grateful! I couldn't resist a snigger on boxing day this year when bil turned up with the same jumper in a different colour, couldn't resist a comment on that one they made such a lovely pair My dh is similar, crap at remembering birthday presents so I start dropping very unsubtle hints about a month before, he's got the hang of it now It's not that he doesn't care, it's just I'm the only one he has to buy for, I do the present shopping for everyone else so he finds it really hard.

I've got my 20 week scan on the 14th of January so just over 2 weeks to wait, hopefully they won't stuff this one up We won't be finding out whether it's a boy or girl, I like the surprise at the end

We've already got everything we need for the baby up in the loft from dd3. I couldn't resist getting a double buggy in the sales yesterday though, it seemed daft to wait a couple of months and then pay £60 extra for exactly the same thing. Got some cheap maternity clothes too, I definitely look pregnant and none of my normal stuff has fitted for quite a while.

Hope everyone has a good new year, think I might be asleep long before big ben strikes 12

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 29/12/2008 14:03

In a bit of a debate with DH as to whether I need to get a double buggy. DS will be 2.5 when this one arrives and a lot of my friends got a double with a similar age gap and they hardly use it. I think a trip shopping with DS running around because he's got off the buggy board will be a nightmare. AAAGH. Not sure what to do. Trouble is there are loads in the sales at the moment, so it'd be good to make a decision fairly soon. Anyone got any experience?

daisy5 · 29/12/2008 17:42

I have the same Cote - a bright pink Bugaboo. Thankfully still changeable if need to.

Ineedmore - same dilemma here. DD has finally come to love the buggy but will be 3 1/4 when no 2 is born so hesitant and struggle to see how much she would really enjoy the buggy board. Does anyone know any kids who like the buggy board?

CoteDAzur · 29/12/2008 18:30

I got the buggy board for DD who will almost 4 when bump arrives, because she is a lazy little bunny

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 29/12/2008 18:55

Hi all hope you all had a lovely christmas and getting in early "happy New Year",

Had an interesting few days dd came home from Preschool christmas party with D and V and proceeded to share it around the rest of the family, we were thankfully all clear by the big day but still a little fragile... still much excitement had by all.... and the lounge still looks like a bombsite even woith a tidy every few hours!!!!

Had another mw appointment (forgot my 16 week check with all the illness) but have applied for my mat exemption certificate for free prescriptions, and all the bounty rubbish. Still it was lovely to hear the heartbeat and looking forward to my (firts proper) scan in Jan, I'm also feeling the baby squirm mostly in the evenings not enough for dh yet but it's getting stronger and I'm 18 weeks tomorrow, and finally the sickness is beginning to improve!!!

Logged on this evening to debate the virtue of buying a double now as mothercare have £70 off a phil and teds and I've found an online codefor another 10% off which works.... which brings a brand new one just about the same price as one off ebay. Although I didnt want to jinks things, think I am going to do it anyway as it is such a good deal.

I am getting another double as dd2 will be 23 months although we probaly won't use it for that long( 23 mths between dd1 and dd2 aswel). I have a double maclaren in the loft but forund that a nightmare to push ( I'm fairly short and so the arm postion made me stretch) we tried a Jane double as well but It was huge and quite heavy ( flogged that to my dsis)

DAISY Unless your dd is really not a walker I would wait as dd1 is now 31/4 and has been out of the double for about 6 months if not longer. and 3 1/4 is an age where if all the others at pre school are walking she will want to too..... ( just ignore if this is nothing like your dd tho')

Sorry it's a me me post but my new year's resolution is to keep more up to date ( with vereything not just mn!!)

ermintrude13 · 29/12/2008 18:58

Hello all. I'm in the Feeling Fat club too - definitely bigger around the bust as well as the belly, despite STILL throwing up violently every night . I'm not even packing back the chocolate, as I have indigestion and feel full all the time - keep wondering if they missed one at the 12 wk scan and there are in fact twins in there taking up all the space . Hope not!

We're calling in all our old kit from family - cot, carseats, crib, carrycot, sling etc. - and begging, borrowing and all but stealing everything else - this will be a credit crunch baby . I really don't like pink so all our little baby clothes bought for DD are in unisex colours and none of the buggy, bedding, car seats etc. are girly, so were were fine when DC #2 was a boy. (Of course, when she got to 18 months old and could identify Barbie from 50 paces, EVERYTHING had to be pink, whether I liked it or not...).

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 29/12/2008 19:06

Just checked my scan date and it's the 8th Jan!!!

Unfortunately also realised that it's exactly the same time as dd's CF clinic review ( fortunately in the same hospital) so will have to see what I can do as I would like dh there too...

llynnnn · 29/12/2008 19:16

i think we'll have the same problm as u cote, all dd's things are still in the loft but i'm pretty sure almost all of her sleepsuits and vests etc were pink!! if this little bump is a boy we will be hitting the sales!!

we have decided not to get a double buggy, dd will be almost 3 when this little one arrives, i have bought a sling type baby carrier so i'm thinking that if dd really needs to sit in the buggy she can for a bit and i'll carry the baby. she walks a LOT nowadays anyway, may invest in a buggy board too, will do some more research first!

doris - sorry to hear you havent been well, and i'm definitely with you on the lounge looking like a bombsite, its to hard to keep all these new exciting toys tidy!!

i dont know if its just all the excitement of xmas and busy visiting people and eating too much crap food, but i am soooooooo tired at the minute, i could sleep all day! anyone else the same? i was hpoing the tiredness would have easd a bit now??!

June2009 · 30/12/2008 09:28

Wow, loads ot catch up on here!

20w scan is on 21/01, can't wait. We'll hopefully find out the sex then and strat looking for names more seriously.
We haven't bought anything yet, decided to go to a baby show (excel london) in March and get ideas or stuff from there. Now I'm wondering if we're leaving it too late.

I am very of you girls who can feel the baby. I could feel some kind of fluttering the other day but nothing since then. (17 week now.)

The day after I posted that I still didn't have a proper bump I went shopping for maternity clothes and I do look proper pregnant pregnant in dresses so I got a couple of them . Doroty perkins had some "allright" everyday stuff and mothercare had some nice stuff that really fitted well (but more expensive.)

llynnn I'm very tired too. I can't sleep at night, I wake up 4 or 5 times to go to the loo, get up early and can't get back to sleep, then I'll have a 1 or 2 hour nap sometime in the afternoon. Really want to stay up tomorrow for new year's eve as we're having a party.

MrsMcClaus dh is exactly the same with bday/xmas presents. I have stopped and dribbled over a particular handbag everytime we go to the shopping centre saying how lovely it is and how much I like it and would like to buy it, but dh doesn't get the hint, comes my bday and "ooh sorry, I didn't know what to get you". I got so (genuinely)upset last year that this year he popped out - on the day - to get me a necklace (notice he STILL didn't get the bag ;).
In the end I got the bag for myself for xmas day and told him it was from him for me. There, everybody happy :D

I have just accepted that there'll always be an imbalance, I think about his bday for months and usually sort out a big or original surprise/present that involves a few people keeping schtum. As bigcar said, it's not that they don't care.

ermintrude13 I keep having dreams that I am having twins and I have to reason very hard with myself that the sonogrpahers would have seen it by now if it was true...

Right better get started with party prep!Take care everyone

ermintrude13 · 30/12/2008 10:33

Hi all, just had 16wk appt and heard baby's heartbeat, which was lovely.

June, I had those twin dreams so vividly this time, and since there are twins and triplets (yikes ) in my family it was a real possibility. Glad it's just the one but I'm sure we'd have coped...

And I don't think March is too late to be getting baby gear in - you need some thinking time, and time to get advice about what you really need. May I just say, some things can be a real waste of money? I know it's so exciting for first-time mums and there's this huge pressure to get EVERYTHING in advance, but there's no harm in just getting in the basics and then shopping for lots of bits and bobs once you've got to know your baby a bit more (it's nice going to John Lewis when DP is on paternity leave and you have the babe in a sling and can actually imagine him/her using the equipment). Despite our plans, our babies came in the bath with us or lay on a cheap, shaped piece of foam in a shallow bath and kicked happily; they hated being held in a plastic baby bath. They never liked any little bouncy chairs and were happier on the floor. They don't need a babygym until they're a few months old. If you're thinking of expressing milk you don't need to get the pump and bottles in before the baby's born - I know so many women who've never used them, or tried out a friend's and found it's better for them. And so on...

llynnn, tiredness is striking here too, largely because of trips to the loo in the night I think. And I had to get up at 6am for a wee this morning too.

MrsMcC - like June, I know hardly any men who can get a good present without many hints (a hint often being an email with a link to a particular website page so they just have to click Buy Now). But this year I pointed out a couple of things to my 10 yr old DD and, good girl that she is, she told her dad what to buy. It still takes a female to sort it out...

flynn1984 · 30/12/2008 10:40

Hiya all

I'll try and catch up on all the posts later on.

Just wondering is anyone else having a really bad complexion? My face (more notably my chin) is covered in spots and nothing is taking them away and no matter how many times I wash my hair it is always greesy...is this one of many pregnancy symptoms?

Tee2072 · 30/12/2008 11:25

Oh God Yes, flynn. That pregnancy glow? Is oily skin. I haven't had this many spots since I was 15!

ermintrude I must be really lucky, as my DH always buys wonderful things, with no help! Guess I'll keep him!

Today my lower back is killing me and the muscles across my bump! I think the baby is stretching in all directions today! I have definitely felt some 'flutters'. So cool.

June2009 · 30/12/2008 13:17

lynn member of the spotty legion here too
I have acne on my chin, three of four big spots permanently there and my neck. Add to that little tiny spots on my shoulders and my back, it's gross. They come and go but mainly they're here.

I had problems with acne before but the pill (yasmine or dianette) sorted them out nicely. Acne only came up a tiny little bit with my periods when I stopped the pill so I thought I was over it until the pregnancy started and I flared up again

My friends will ask me about cravings and symptons but mention the spots I get: "awww but it's all worth it, isn't it" which makes me feel like a bit of a whinger!
Well they did ask about symptoms...what did they expect? "nono, just the healthy glow"? ;)

dreamydowler · 30/12/2008 13:35

Hi everyone. Ive just been for my 16 week antenatal but unfortunately didnt get to hear babys heartbeat. I also had a trace of the dreaded sugar in my urine so need to be careful with chocolates and cakes just when I had got my appetite back for them too. My scan is 28th Jan and as the last son I had was 10 years ago if this one is a boy I too will have an awful lot of new stuff to buy we even bought a pink car seat last time
baby is due in june and my youngest will be 3 in september. I also childmind my granddaughter who will be 2 in october. Im hoping to get away with a double pram a sling and a buggy board combination will have to have a good look for ones that are suitable for double buggy attatching.
I still havent put any weight on thankfuly but my tummy has definitely popped in fact my trousers split at my sisters cocktail party the other night and I was mortified went straight to the shops the following morning for a couple of pairs of really comfortable maternity trousers. Im going to need new bras soon too.
I have felt lots of little flutterings but still cant wait for the reassurance of the scan and the heartbeat.

ermintrude13 · 30/12/2008 14:02

Hello dreamy, I'm sure if you're feeling the flutters you'll be fine. I had to ask the MW - they don't do it as a matter of course unless there are 'Issues'. But do ask them next time!

Tee, I'm getting a lot of muscle-tightening around the lower abdomen. My poor old uterus doing its stretches I guess. Even though this is the third time, it still feels weird!

For all you spotty ladies, this is one of the few times I feel grateful for my extremely dry skin. Hey, I sometimes get eczema, I have to moisturise my entire body every day, apply handcream on the hour, will probably look like a wrinkled old hag in ten years, but I never ever ever get a spot. I knew there had to be a silver lining to that particular cloud

helpivegottogivebirth · 30/12/2008 15:39

i've got loads of spots too - though only on the left hand side of my face. and they are not small pimples, but enormous pustules!
they are just beginning to get a bit better though...
i'm quite excited about you all feeling flutterings - i try but can't seem to feel anything yet.
am struggling to find comfortable maternity clothes - every bit of elastic seems to dig in somewhere. at home i literally feel like going trouserless
is anyone else feelin jst mighty uncomfortable?
