Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi there,
Charley, I hadn't noticed that before about the kits. The 1-3 months will do a baby from 8lbs tho so may be worth enquiring. I think they will fit a little bit of a smaller baby too but prob not a 6lber. There is no way of telling either. I am no expert with newborn nappies as dd was 2 or 3 months old before I got the trial kit. I have used loads on her now tho. I have to say I hated prefolds as dd had the most explosive b/f poo ever and I had to change the wrap every time so defeated the object. I chose Kissaluvs with Mother-ease air flow wraps. Alot of the nappies I tried leaked or wicked between the legs as dd had the biggest thighs you have ever seen. All in ones and stuffables didn't work for us for example. I found the velcro really annoying in the wash as I always forgot to do the tabs up and so chose poppers. My fave nappies are boring to look at (but still cute.) I like the kissaluvs in the burley terry version only, Sandy's (so easy!) and Motherease one size. I also use Ella's House bumhuggers at night with boosters and a woollen wrap and like these too although they are expensive. Pink is your expert on where to get a bargain I think.
Pink - Your idea sounds very good. Worth investigating. I am jealous of your tennis minki too. Sounds fab. I went for sized nappies as although they work out more expensive I decided I would be having at least two babies in them and they would wear better. I have also bought fun wraps as dd has got older (and the thighs aren't such an issue) from lovebums and bear behinds. (Nemo and cowprint, so cool).
For the new baby I have bought some tiny kissaluvs for the early days and will be buying some new small wraps too when I get organised. All for now, knackered and time to hit the sofa. HTH and sorry for boring the disposable users among us.
P.S. Hi Tea - We missed you !!!

Trib - Typical about the parentcraft classes (rolling eyes emoticon)
Tots bots are lovely too but I did find them bulky and like the bimble and bumble have no 'leg frills' so sometimes poo escaped. I think my dd was exceptional regarding her b/f poo though. She went alot too.
Charley - check out the nappy forum on here too.
Really am going now.
And if you use washable nappies you may as well use flannels to clean babies bottom (I use camomile tea and olive oil) as you are washing anyway and this way will save even more money.
Apart from that you need liners (paper or fleece, I have tried both and now use paper) and a bucket. I also have two nappy meshes to get nappies in washing machine easily (one to wash and one to use) and I dry pail which is really easy. A wet nappy bag for out and about is useful too to put the dirty nappies in. I wash at 60 with a prewash and super rinse and use not much powder as this can cause a rash if left in the nappy.......Anyway can you tell this was one of my fave topics for a while. HTH

Oh Charley I decided ages ago after I found out how much disposables would cost. Also Mcmudda's posts got me thinking because I did some investigation and found out that washables had moved way beyond terry squares and nappy pins! Being that I recycle everything anyway and use all energy saving options my conscience began to kick in. I think I didn't realise washables had moved on so much After seeing how cool they were I couldn't resist!

I have been looking into childcare for college. It is looking impossible. All the registered childminders don't seem to do it past 6pm I can't rely on a babysitter as I need them to come every single week without fail otherwise it isn't worth starting the course. What I can see if you can even get someone to be with your child when they are under 1year is that it'll cost £5 and hour - if you can find anyone to work these hours anyway.

I have written again to the local college asking if I could do my course with the day time people. I don't see much hope really as they turned down me doing my exams as an external candidate. Its not like I am asking for much - one night off a week. I mean fucking hell are they nuts you can't spend every waking minute of every day with a new born baby. I haven't family who can babysit. I think cutting the classes to make it only one evening a week is completely excluding anyone with child caring commitments because you can't seem to get childcare outside day time

I can't stay at home everyday without ever getting a break. I'll go mad I need College for my sanity.

Pink - You are not having any luck at the moment. Don't despair. You must be due a break soon. What is the course you want to do next year? Is there any alternative? Nightmare for you. I hope you have some good news soon.
On another note I love Devon too. We used to go there on holiday every Easter to a B&B on a farm and I spent three years at Uni in Exeter. Fab time.
We have had a nice weekend apart from dd refusing to eat any dinner or anything at all apart from breakfast and bread. Nightmare, but posted about it and had great helpful responses. We went out for lunch today for a full roast carvery which was fab. Tomorrow we are off to an Easter party and BBQ with some friends although I need to sort out the spare room in the morning.
We went to ELC to spend some vouchers for dd too. Not sure who had the most fun choosing stuff for her, me or DH ha ha. She charged around playing with everything and had a great time too. We got some 'Happyland' stuff in the end as she has some already and plays really nicely with it and some musical instruments which dh is regretting already.
I have missed that hour today and so am signing off for now as an early night is the order of the day. Hope everyone else has had a good weekend.
