lua - if it helps at all i think the hotel chocolat have some diabetic chocs, going to have a hunt for you!

redheadmum · 23/03/2005 14:05

just out of a 3 1/2 hr meeting - how tedious to have missed so much on MN!

Coop - fear not I've found the cure to nesting urges, I went to the tidy house link on MN and there was a link to FlyLady. This scared me so much I might just have stopped in my organising tracks!

Know what you mean on the pg emotions - I'm a moody thing - v emotional at everything.

council tax - ours came through yesterday and it's about £1600 too. It's soooo expensive just to keep the house running.

KVG - bummer about the cold sore...hope it doesn't last too long.

Pink - haven't heard from Scraggy for ages and ages, Katz said she'd been 'cyber talking' with her and she's ok, just very busy I think.

Cooperoo · 23/03/2005 16:36

Thanks for the kind words and sympathy over my out of control hormones.
I do remember feeling the same at Christmas last time so the dates do tie in. I was supposed to be driving DH and me from York to Suffolk and I only made it 6 miles down the road and we had to swap because I was heartbroken about leaving our dog in kennels and kept imagining car crashes etc. Awful. Poor DH had to drive us everywhere after that, I just didn't feel safe. Ridiculous isn't it. I wasn't a good passenger either. DH is very safe and yet I was very nervous all the time. Hopeless.
Pink - I am so about your post. What a nightmare. I would contact Amazon and tell them it hasn't arrived. I bet they send you another one. (We get loads sent twice as it can take so long to us and they just resend things rather than tracking them. It is a pain really as I then have to go to the Post Office and return the duplicates. I do sometimes wonder what they would do if I kept them, but then that is stealing and I can't do it.....)
Our council tax comes out of DH's pay with our rent. They take an average for all service personel as in theory we can't choose where we live so we all pay the same. I have no idea how much it is though. I will find out as I would be interested to compare. We still pay it even though we live overseas.
Red - I will have to look at that link...I am intrigued about what could have stopped you...
KVG - Sorry you are feeling lousy and have a cold sore. Normally I would say overdose on Vit B12 but don't know about when preg.
Glad I am not the only one feeling guilty about inflicting this new baby on our first born. I am grabbing so many cuddles with dd at the moment. She is on my lap right now. I can't get enough of her.

PinkArjuna · 23/03/2005 16:37

Well I maybe have a cage for my post but I'm going to ring the estate agent and ask them to put secure lockers up after this latest flitching. Rent gets paid therefore I want my stairway to be secure. God I hate them evil buggers. Honestly if they do something selfish again I am going to go nuts. They woke me up once just to ask to borrow the ladder 'later' I have probably said before - I just really can't stand them and wish they would just move out and someone cool (preferably goodlooking ) move in. I can but hope I suppose...

Cooperoo · 23/03/2005 16:40

Trib - forgot to post sorry that you are having a crappy feeling day. Hope it passes and tomorrow is better. It is awful feeling like that but some days you can't do anything about it can you.
Tomorrow WILL be better.

JonahB · 23/03/2005 16:50

Tea - thanks for the advice. Yeah, I'm counting on the fact that my poor DH will be sent out for a whole manner of things he doesn't understand and will confuse him .

Coop, that isn't a hormonal thing with your dogs. I'm like that all the time with my cat . Surrogate child - you bet!!

teabelly · 23/03/2005 16:58

Hurrah, a couple more minutes and I'll be off for the weekend, wohoooo and we're off next week too so I'm not back in the office until APRIL!!!! That's such a great feeling, esp as I finally got rid of Jabba, my unfriendly auditor at 4.30 today too

Will definitely catch up while I'm off...but if I don't get a chance tomorrow Coop hope your dd has a great day

Tkae care all, 'see' you later, x

Cooperoo · 23/03/2005 17:01

Jonah - You are right, I was always upset leaving Kira at kennels, but this time I couldn't see through the tears to drive safely after an hour . She was def my first baby. We had to leave her with my MIL and now friends when we got posted here as she is sick in a car and the idea of shipping her to Cyprus was impossible. We had to sedate her on a car journey and so she would never have coped with a flight. Miss her madly though and can't wait to get her. Dh and I both sobbed for an hour when we left her that time......heartbroken doesn't come close.

MrsWednesday · 23/03/2005 17:26

Trib, sorry you are feeling so crappy today. Hope you manage to have a peaceful evening and an early night to recharge your batteries.

I have had a busy but boring afternoon and my brain has gone to sleepzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Will be back with more energy (hopefully) tomorrow.

Have a good evening everyone.x

Scraggyaggy · 23/03/2005 18:19

Hello everyone!!!

Am sorry I haven't been about much (at all!! ) I have been so so so busy. No excuse I know! I have been told by various people (including Sweetheart!!) that I was starting to worry you all, but hopefully Katz and MrsW let you know I was ok.

Charley - CONGRATULATIONS!!! You lucky girl!! How fantastic. Am so chuffed for you - and looking forward to seeing the rock in a couple of weeks . At the end of the day how you your mother feels about your engagement isn't going to make the blindest difference to your happiness. It would be nice for her to be pleased for you and to express it, but you know that you and your dh-to-be are just perfect for each other and nothing's going to change that. xx

I will try to have a read through your messages later, so apologies for not commenting ona any other stories at this stage.

DP and I went to an ante-natal weekend last weekend arranged by the NCT. It was fabulous! I can recommend it to anyone. I was a bit pricy I suppose (£70 for the two of us for both days 10-3), but they had a breastfeeding counsellor come and speak to us and show us how to hold the baby and they had a lady come and talk to us about re-usable nappies and bio-degradable nappies.

The lady running it gave us plenty of handouts as well and we got to direct the class the way we wanted it to go and did loads of exercises to practice things like birthing positions, and played games such as linking cards scattered on the floor with bits of string, to understanding the full concept of making a decision about the birth that might have a knock-on effect.

And the best bit was that we got to make some new friends In fact, one of the is due the week after me so I did recommend that she come and join us on MN!

Are we still meeting on the 4th??

Speak soon xxx

LipstickMum · 23/03/2005 19:00

Evening everyone,

Aren't we meeting on Saturday the 2nd???

tribpot · 23/03/2005 19:02

Scraggy, great to see you putting in a Special Guest Star appearance

I'm feeling a bit better now, although have just been horrified at the doctors (fortunately nothing medical). I went in to ask for a letter to say I'm okay to fly as we are off on a jauntette to Amsterdam at the end of next week. KLM don't say they need a letter if you're over 28 weeks, but I would rather have it than turn up and find they won't let me fly by somehow being able to tell from the size of my bump that I am at that stage. (I know if they asked I would forget to lie and own up to being 28 + 1 the day we fly home).

Anyway, doctor's letter is going to cost ... wait for it ... EIGHTEEN POUNDS.

18!

Lippy, if your dh would like to offer me a cut price deal, call it 15 quid, I am happy to cough up

LipstickMum · 23/03/2005 19:22

For goodness sake Trib daylight flipping robbery for something that will be a bog-standard (ssuming your health is) letter that the admin staff will type out and send. I think it's individual practice policy because I didn't pay for mine last time round....Actually, maybe I did..? £10

Hehe, I shall -jokingly- ask my dp and I bet I know what his response will be, something along the lines of "Well if I have time after I have over-run by 30 minutes because I can't stand to kick my patients out after 8 minutes, after I have dictated those 3 referral letters, after the 2 visits I have to do and after up-dating some of my patient drug list, I will be only to happy to oblige!"

tribpot · 23/03/2005 19:35

Eagerly waiting to hear what dp's response will be, Lippy After all, we're talking cash in hand, tax man none the wiser, etc. I bet he doesn't see 18 quid when he signs one of these at work.

I assume that someone vaguely responsible might actually check my file to ensure that I am medically fit to fly, hence the cost, but on the other hand, what is actually in my GP medical record? I can't imagine the midwife fills anything in after the appointment, so basically how can a doctor at the practice assess whether I am fit to fly or not?!

LipstickMum · 23/03/2005 19:55

Lol yeah Trib, I bet he'll be overjoyed to comment! You're right, 18 quid, where does it go??? I'm intrigued too, I'll ask him, definitely.

Your medical history is obviously on record and that's what your doctor will look through to see if there is anything that could be aggravated by flying. I'm pretty sure they'll know what's in your 'blue folder' too, so they'll know what your bp has been like during the pregnancy, whether your urine has been clear throughout, blood tests, all that kind of thing.

uwila · 23/03/2005 19:58

Trib,
Can you get a midwife to do it? I did this last time I was pregnant and it didn't cost me a single penny. She just took out a pen and apiece of paper right there and wrote it out. £18 is bloody robbery. I can understand if you rang a private GP, but I think that qualifies as a bog standard request for the NHS... and reall? How much effort is it? Maybe you could type it up and ask them if they will just sign for say £1.

tribpot · 23/03/2005 20:05

Uwila, the receptionist claimed (well, with justification) that it has nothing to do with the NHS, since it's the airlines that insist on it. I am quite tempted to phone them tomorrow and cancel the request, cos KLM don't appear to need it anyway, and I have a feeling they might sign off literally for the days of this trip and I could be off to Poland for a jolly at some point too. (Which would also probably be with KLM).

I think I'll give the midwives a ring tomorrow morning, they're always game for a laugh. I reckon they'd do it for a fiver and a bottle of wine, anyway!

uwila · 23/03/2005 20:31

I disagree actually. You are looking for a document to certify your state of health and that has EVERYTHING to do with the national health service. I can sympathise with them when they have valid reason that they can not afford to provide something. But, for the receptionist to just say, sorry not our job for something that they and only they are well qualified to provide, I think that is rediculous.

What's their number? I'll give them a god... just kidding

The gamekeeper??? Huh??? Who?

Trib, dp and I had a very emotive talk about the letter, most of which I am not going to repeat!! It's just not something surguries consider as part of the NHS service. The cost, which I agree seems excessive, goes back into practice running costs (well, it does at dp's surgery). Tbh I don't want to go into a lot of the stuff we talked about, it's far too contraversial to post on here and it just makes me and

By the way, welcome back Scraggy Nice to see you again! Hope you're not working too hard??

Pink, your neighbours friends sound hideous. I'm umm embarrassed to say (embarrassed coz I don't want to sound snooty ) that I've never had to encounter such awful behaviour, I can't imagine it. How the hell are you going to drag the fcking buggy/travel system up stairs everytime you use it? You had considered a bike lock or something hadn't you? How awful.
