Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Loobyloo,

Your message reminded me of last Fri before my scan. Woke up and was desperate for a pee but hadn't bothered to look for my sample bottle the night before (remembered I had one from last pg as too stingy to buy a new one). After frantic searching whilst crossing legs then looking for temporary sample pots (e.g. disposable plastic cups) I couldn't hold on any longer.

The moral of that story is have your sample pot ready!

msg - there are some oils that you must certainly avoid during pregnancy as they can do things like raise blood pressure, encourage uterus to contract etc. my mum is an aromatherapist so I could ask her for a list of oils to avoid if you like?

Been up to visit my Gran, she had a blood clot on her brain which caused a mild stroke. She is talking but has lost the use of her left hand. She looked so frail and old.

Would love some ideas of how to tell people...not planning on doing it just yet but in the next few weeks as 12+2 now and it's going to be really obvious soon. Had to put size 10's on today and they were pulling.
was going to put my 12 week scan on facebook but seen as I still have no date that doesn't look like I can do that!

Jools1 · 10/11/2008 23:02

Hi Ladies

Just logged on to try and catch up after a lovely long weekend away with DP in Cornwall. However, I really can't concentrate so am going to have to catch up on all your news tomorrow.

I'm going into an emotional meltdown after finding quite a lot of fresh blood on the paper when wiping a few minutes ago. This is following seeing a small amount of brown blood when I wiped yesterday evening I'm 11+3 and my first scan is tomorrow afternoon.

I wouldn't say I had cramps last night, but I was quite aware of some strong sensations that I was hoping were stretching pains ... I've been incredibly thirsty today aswell - have drunk nearly 3 litres of water

Wish me luck please - I am now so incredibly anxious Just when I thought I was getting out of the danger zone and starting to plan on telling people ....

SpangleMaker · 10/11/2008 23:14

Jools of course you will be so worried, just try to keep calm, do what you can to distract yourself and try to get some sleep. Bleeding does happen without any ill effects but it is very very scary.

Have to go to bed but will check in tomorrow to see how you are. What time's your scan?

Good luck x

Momino · 10/11/2008 23:19

Jools, try to get some sleep if possible. Spangle is right in that bleeding can happen for many other reasons so keep your thoughts to that.

bestwishes for your scan and big hugs.

Jools1 · 11/11/2008 08:55

Thanks Spangle and Momino

I did sleep - woke up only once for the loo and there was no blood but there was reddy brown stuff this morning, plus (tmi alert ) a small clot.

I'm getting mild AF - like cramps, my boobs are no longer tender at all and don't feel as full and I didn't really notice the smell of cat food this morning.

Scan is at 15:50 I guess I just wait till then and see what can be seen

SweetBROODY · 11/11/2008 09:17

Jools try to relax.. I'll be praying for you - it could be nothing.

SweetBROODY · 11/11/2008 09:17

Let us know how you get on

SweetBROODY · 11/11/2008 11:33

How are the rest of us?

Its a nicer day

SweetBROODY · 11/11/2008 11:34

Weathers nice.. Feel like I have a bit more energy...

MsG · 11/11/2008 11:43

Jools, I'll be thinking of you this afternoon. Let us know how you get on. xxx

llareggub · 11/11/2008 11:46

Jools

When I was pregnant with DS I had a massive bleed at around 8/9 weeks. The scan was fine, and we never found out the reason for it but I have suspicions of a multiple pregnancy. But never confirmed. There are lots of reasons for bleeding in pregnancy, some people bleed all the way through. Try and relax, I know it is hard.

I'm just back from my scan, and my due date has changed from 1 May to 12 May!!

frazzledoldbag34 · 11/11/2008 11:57

Jools - thinking of you. Fingers crossed everything will be ok.

Whoever was asking about prams - my friend has an I-candy (think it's a Cherry (or Apple not sure) which she likes but the front wheels have been sticking and its awkward to push - a common fault with them apparently). The Jane ones are ok I think - but quite heavy for shopping etc - depends what you're using it for I think. Better for long walks or if you live in the country than the city I have heard.
I agree with you re: Mamas and Papas - I've had a selection of M&P stuff and it's all been rubbish. Don't know why I bought it again last time - I think I just got seduced by it all looking pretty in the M&P shop. Never again. Just about to put my M & P MPX travel system on ebay - it's fab for the first 6 months as carry cot is huge but after that the seat unit bit is rubbish and my DD refused to sit in it at all without screaming her head off. Think it's uncomfy. And it's not that great to push, plasticky, bits of it wobble (not just on mine, they all do) - I could go on.
Anyway, so after spending £400 on that I was forced to buy something else (and with this prospective DC in mind) I splashed out on a Bugaboo Chameleon when DD was 6 months. Have never looked back and am now their biggest fan. DD is 2 now and still loves her 'Boo' as she calls it. Pricey (really pricey - but you can get good second hand on ebay) - but it is just soooooooo worth it. Having been through Graco, 2 x Mamas and Papas and a McLaren I truly wish I'd bought a Chameleon from the start and not wasted my money on the cheaper ones.
Anyway, am such a pram bore. Am just going to buy a new different coloured set of fabrics for this baby (my current lot is green, now discontinued I think - quite fancy the red or black this time...........)
Pram shopping is my favorite pre-baby thing!
Anyway my top tip is if you have the budget for it, Chameleon all the way!
Sorry, I am SO BORING!

aquababe · 11/11/2008 11:59

I was paranoid about essential oils too so spoke to person who deals with them in health food shop she explained that the amount thats used in shampoos etc is so small to be of concern so as long as your not dropping the actual essential oil into your bath its no worries

Also it's ok to smell eucalyptus, but not too consume, particularly if you have high blood pressureor at risk from diabetes.

jools hope you get good news at your scan fingers crossed for you

Still puking at 15 1/2weeks when will this end.

LoobyLou36 · 11/11/2008 11:59

Just back from meeting consultant. Went okay, blood pressure fine, no protein in my urine etc, found out I was Rhesus negative so may have to think about injections apparently. Anyone on here had these? Just a little nervous of any unneccessary procedures.

He got the doppler out and we heard the babys heartbeat for the first time, babs was moving around alot too

Have been warned I'll need regular checks because of my bp and to watch out for any signs of thrombosis due to family history. God I've got dodgy genes! you can choose your friends etc...

Got my 20 week scan next but think I see the mw first. I've only seen her once at booking in - is this normal?

Sorry for all the questions - all this is so new for me.

LoobyLou36 · 11/11/2008 12:02

jools good luck with your scan my fingers are crossed for you to.

frazzledoldbag34 · 11/11/2008 12:03

llareggub - I agree with you re:bleeding. I had a HUGE bleed (think gushing) - ruined my black suede boots (yuck) when I was 14 wks with DD2. They told me I'd miscarried then scanned me and said 'oh no, there it is! I too have suspicions of a hidden twin or something (but had already had 2 scans by then and they hadn't seen one) - will never know what that was all about. (I have to say I didn't really have much cramping with it though - was just random ridiculous bleeding).
I then bled off and on until about 24 wks - but it was fine. DD2 is a happy healthy little darling, born weighing 8lb 8oz so obviously it did her no harm at all.

As I said before Jools my fingers are well and truly crossed for you. x x x x

Thanks for the positive vibes everyone - if my appt is on time, I should know one way or the other in around 4 hours.

The cramping is quite uncomfortable - not painful but worse than any stretching pains I've had to date. Trying to keep an open mind - maybe carrying my rucksack across London caused a tear in the placenta or something, or maybe it is down to getting intimate whilst away on hols - I suppose there is still hope.

Dandylioness - I haven't called anyone because the scan is 15:50 today - I presume all they would do is book me in for one anyway ?

No more red blood - just a little bit of very very dark, almost black when I wipe.

I had a week booked off - the last 2 days are today and tomorrow - tomorrow is supposed to be the day I allow myself to look in Mothercare and start looking for maternity clothes - hope I still can

I've told DP I'm doing nothing but sitting or lying today, so he has gone off to the shop on his own to return my birthday pressie (a lovely new Storm watch but it stopped working !) He will be back soon and come to the scan with me. Till then, I have chocolate, crap daytime TV to watch and cats to cuddle !

SweetBROODY · 11/11/2008 12:42

Jools atleast speak to your MW or someone? They would not normally just send yu for a scan but do some blood tests and things like that

llareggub · 11/11/2008 13:01

Jools give your MW a call anyway. (S)he might be able to bring your scan forward.

MsG · 11/11/2008 13:10

Agaboo, sorry about your gran - that must be upsetting. Thanks for offering to ask your mum about oils - could you maybe ask her to look at the list Josie pinned and see if she agrees with all that? www.aromacaring.co.uk/essential_oils_and_pregnancy.htm
It looks quite comprehensive but it doesn't say how up-to-date it is. Thanks, Josie! I am maybe worrying too much about it but I would like to be sure.

Jools I would call your MW if you have one already or your GP, or maybe even the hospital where you're having the scan in case they can do other tests if necessary. Best of luck. xxx
