Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
flippineck · 19/11/2008 13:12

Due1stmay - when I was pregnant with DD I went completely and totally off everything green, but especially leafy veg. Cabbage/kale/spinach type things are my favourite vegetbales, but for the first 20 weeks or so I couldn't even look at them, ad if I smelled them.....bleurgh. This time I haven't had the same problem, and I've been having huge cravings for guacamole.

Round here we have a MW appt at 16-18 weeks, even for second timers. And out MWs/GPs recycle pisspots too, they hand 'em back to you complete with contents. I could fine my pot one time last pg, so used an empty pickle jar - wonder if it made any difference? Smelled very strongly of vinegar!

EmmalinaC · 19/11/2008 13:15

flippineck lol at your pickle jar! Midwife must've been delighted.

pulapula · 19/11/2008 13:17

I would like another DD just for the girlie clothes lol. They are definitely much more fun than boys clothes although my DS does look cute in his outfits too. I didn't really do all the girlie dresses and stuff with DD (always in trousers/leggings) so if I have a girl this time, will probably go a bit OTT!

Good news hopefully on the pushchair front. My friend has a Phil & Teds which she says we can have (we can just give her something for the baby carrycot bit). It has a wheel that needs fixing but my DH says he can have a go at it. So we just need to wait til she's spoken with her DH about it, as she wants to get a new P&T sports version but he wasn't sure she needed it, so I will have to see what he says!

EmmalinaC · 19/11/2008 13:25

pula very jealous of your inherited P&T. The more I think about it the more I realise it's the only way - just can't bear the thought of spending a fortune on a new one!

Not when there are all those lovely girly dresses to buy...

frazzledoldbag34 · 19/11/2008 13:32

As someone with 2 girls already and a potential 3rd I can advise that it is a FABULOUS excuse for spending outrageous amounts of money on clothes for DD1. DD2 hardly has anything new bought (but most of DD1's are hardly worn that much) and therefore has a brilliant ready-made wardrobe. Plus a big dresssing up box! And if the next one is a girl it'll be even better.

(Confession : have just bought my girls matching Christmas dresses and alice bands from Monsoon - oh my god, to die for! And then yesterday I bought another one the same for their little 6 mth old neice. Can't wait to see all 3 together on Christmas day!) Adore Monsoon little girl stuff (although not so keen on the prices!)

frazzledoldbag34 · 19/11/2008 13:36

Sorry, she's MY neice, their cousin. How could she be their neice? Duh.

Momino · 19/11/2008 14:03

about girl clothes, i agree with you on an excuse to spend more on DD1 since it will eventually get to DD2 (so i can buy that gorgeous boden duffel coat, can't i?).

about green food, i went off green food with each pregnancy especially when early pregnancy clashed with asparagus season. used to love asparagus now can't bear it.

about salt and vin, it's all your lot's fault that i've just HAD to go out to buy a Special Bag of kettle chips salt & vinegar (you're right, they're not cheap). but i wasn't going to be able to sit here at the computer the rest of the afternoon dreaming about them.

flippineck · 19/11/2008 14:11

D'you know, I think I'm an oddity! I'd love to have a boy this time because I am sick of pink/flowers/frills/sequins/princess this/pretty that...phew, rant over. Maybe I'd feel differently if I'd got to choose more of DD's clothes, but we've been given a huge proportion of what she owns by friends with older daughters. And I'm sick of it all!

frazzledoldbag34 · 19/11/2008 14:38

flippin - I do sort of know what you mean.....but I must admit to having dressed both mine in a good deal of blue and brown from time to time as I do get sick of pink, pink, pink. DD2 especially looks good in bright red and also navy blue and she has a couple of khaki dresses which she looks really cute in.
Not that I don't want a boy.......have been having boy fantasies recently (very bizarre for me!)
If I do have a boy I have plenty of little neices who will inherit a very nice wardrobe of clothes!
(and I'll inherit my nephews stuff so it's a win-win!)

Momino · 19/11/2008 14:38

no, flippineck, I'm with you. i would love a boy to break this pink monotony. but i think the odds for me having a girl are high so am not going to put my hopes up.

detsy · 19/11/2008 14:48

Totally agree about the pink stuff - i hate pink too. When they are tiny it seems you can only get little things in pink pink and more pink! We have very little of it now - all red, brown, green, blue and khaki too at moment - its so much nicer. Hate all that fussy frilly stuff. DD currently in brwon boot leg cords and lilac/brown smock top. She's actually played a bit this afternoon - woo hoo she's on the mend!!

I think we have a danger of geting cabin fever so we are venturing out in the cold wind and rain to a local JOJO store to stock up on some bigger clothes for her - esp trousers

See you later

detsy · 19/11/2008 14:49

Hopefully not pink ones...

divedaisy · 19/11/2008 15:05

Oh just scoffed another cheese toasty.... Feel ill...

I love brussels sprouts - but am the only one in our house who likes them, so don't get them too often.

What have I gone off??? Fish. Beans. Meat (I will eat it, but don't really want to). in fact if I didn't HAVE to eat I probably wouldn't, cos I really can't come up with tasty things to eat - OHHHH Except humous (the jalapeno one from Tesco) with carrot, cauliflower and ?????? - what do you call the green caulifower????? Oh Yeh Brocolli!!! All raw of course dipped in....yum yum heaven.

Ok Ok I can hear you all laughing at my Green Cauliflower!! Ha Ha - pick on a pregnant woman with baby brain!!!!

divedaisy · 19/11/2008 15:06

Oh and pink grapefruit juice by the litre!!!

EmmalinaC · 19/11/2008 16:24

Funny to read all similarities in food cravings and aversions!

Also very much gone off meat. I used to LOVE ham but now it makes me retch. Green vegetables turn by stomach, especially broccoli.

And I can't get enough salt and vinegar, cheese (and pickle!), fruit and Haribo!

Re: girls' clothes and pink detsy agree with you about avoiding pink - DD has hardly any. But it seems to me that if you want to avoid pink and dress your children in more varied colours you have to spend sooooo much more! (Boden, anyone?).

Momino · 19/11/2008 16:42

emmalina, no matter how hard i try, dd1 always reverts to pink. her lovelies things are good quality red, deep green, cornflour blue tops but every time it's time to get dressed she fusses for the pink tops (only has a few). i have to give in i guess, because i want her to be able to choose but inside i'm grrring how i've spent needless money on the clothes colours I prefer.

The same with jeans, i love dd1 in jeans and she has really cute skinny gap ones. unfortunately, she insists on wearing skirts and only skirts. i think she's rebelling at an early age, oh no !

maybe i'll have more luck with dd2 as she looks pretty in blue. but then, she follows everything dd1 does/has so i'm doomed to pink.

Jennster · 19/11/2008 17:35

Hmm I have a little princess [cringe] of a nearly 3 year old. She too only wants to wear pink, ballerina, princess, sparkley clothes, skirts and dresses. I don't know where she gets it from. Not me for sure.

llareggub · 19/11/2008 17:41

Hi folks, stop the salt and vinegar talk, will you? It's now all I can think about!

I'm so, so tired at the moment. Is anyone else the same? I came home from work early today and slept for 2 hours. Please tell me someone else is this tired at 15 weeks? I don't remember what it was like at this stage with DS.

carol7 · 19/11/2008 17:56

Hi I am booked in for an amnio tomoz has anyone had one recently Its a bit scary with the miscarriage risks would appreciate other peoples experiences thanks Carol

EmmalinaC · 19/11/2008 17:59

llaregub I'm shattered too and I'm sure with DD1 I was over the tiredness by now (16+1). Today I send DD1 to Grandma for the day so I could have a rest and I have been sooooooo lazy! Didn't get up til 10 o'clock and have done almost nothing since except read Jilly Cooper in the bath. Bliss! Feel much better now though.

Something I was wondering, hope no-one minds me asking this, is how much weight we should have put on by this stage. When I had DD1 I gained nearly 4 stone in total so this time I'm trying to be a bit careful. I've put on about 6lbs. Is this a lot? Am I being silly to care? Does anyone else give a stuff about how how much weight they gain?! Really interested to know what you think...

carol7 · 19/11/2008 18:09

Hi I am 16 weeks today and I have put on 8lbs how much of a bump have you got mine seems to have doubled in the last week?

llareggub · 19/11/2008 18:12

Oh, thank you EmmelineC I am grateful to know that others are tired too. Sounds like you had a wonderful day. WRT weight, I've no idea how much I've put on but I can just about fit into a pair of work trousers, although my jersey dresses are so much more comfortable.

I must say though, now that I've been told that Im borderline for gestational diabetes, I suspect lots of the lovely things that I might have treated myself with will have to go, so its possible I might not put on so much as last time when I had chocolate cake cravings!

EmmalinaC · 19/11/2008 18:21

Hello Carol7 I've got quite a big bump and it's growing fast but most of it seems to be above my belly button - the bit below my belly button is still a bit flabby from last time! Maybe this means it's just cheese rather than baby bump...

llaregub I guess if you've got other children you never really get enough sleep - we don't! (Love your name BTW - was in a production of Under Milk Wood years ago!)

pulapula · 19/11/2008 18:31

Just got my email for 13 week pg from a baby website, and it explains the craving for salt. look at this page

Might have some plain hula hoops in the cupboard- they might have to do for tonight.

detsy · 19/11/2008 18:35
