just finished some work and really need to get to bed, i don't know why I stall. it's like i'm trying to see how much sleep I can be deprived, self-torture. we need to be saving up sleep for those days ahead in heavy pregnancy when it's difficult to sleep. not to mention the days after baby's arrived.....

good night all.

pulapula · 19/11/2008 07:46

My MW always used to empty the wee pot (in the sink) and give me the pot back to use for next time (money saving i assume). Once I couldn't find the pot, so found a pot from a present I'd been given (those empty containers in a bag for preparing your own overnight bag). And she threw that away! Didn't even ask. Couldn't believe it!.

nauseous · 19/11/2008 08:09

Well I'll probably tell work soon. We're a small company and we like to plan everything - but even so I don't exactly relish the idea of saying it!

By the way if anyone is thinking of doing any fetive shopping early here is a link to 30% off at gap from today until 30th Nov - www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/discount-voucher-codes#newdeal

On another note - is a 16 week midwife appointment normal? I don't think I've got one?? In fact certain I haven't. As far as I know they don't want to see me till 22 weeks when I have my scan... At QC in London if anyone else is there...?

nauseous · 19/11/2008 08:10

festive

nauseous · 19/11/2008 08:16

The wee pot thing IS wierd.. maybe they expect you to re-use them then?

Maybe that's why doctors/midwives always seem to say to you - 'so have you brought a wee sample?' and you're like - 'er, well, no sorry no-one told me to bring one..!' (am i sposed to be a mind reader??)

LoobyLou36 · 19/11/2008 08:55

Doctors do expect you to be psychic I think. When I went to docs last week about my headaches she asked me if I'd brough a sample, when I said no she looked at me like I'd just landed from another planet.
Then she gave me a pot and said "do you think you could squeeze some out?" I had to go back downstairs to the loo, force myself to go (had to run the tap), then I had to go back to her waiting room and wait while she saw someone else.
When I went back in she tested it, told me there was protein in it and she'd have to send a sample to the lab. Then she turned round and said "oh dear I've tipped it down the sink - could you manage another one?"
I'm not a bl**dy magician! had to drop another sample in the next day, still waiting for the results.

When I went to the hospital the other week they gave me my sample pot back - luckily I remembered to empty it and wash it out for next time.

Jennster · 19/11/2008 09:13

I think the sample pot needs to be new if it's going to be sent for analysis, but can be reused if it's just for dipping in the surgery. I had my booking at 10 weeks, and don't need to see midwife until 24 weeks now. As it happens I'm seeing her on Monday to go through notes on previous labours.

Momino · 19/11/2008 09:15

Good morning all.
nauseous, this is baby3 for us and we were told booking in, dating scan, then 16 week check. Do check as sometimes i think they 'forget' to tell you.

bantam73 · 19/11/2008 09:24

Hi everyone

I saw my mw on monday at 16+3wks. I heard hb again, did't want to ask about heart rate. I don't want to get my hopes up for 1 sex and get the other.

Anyway I was shocked that my mw doesn't want to see me again til I'm 28 wks!!!! 3 months time but if I need her I should just call her!!!

SpangleMaker · 19/11/2008 10:43

Oh, perhaps that's why she gave it back to me. I shall have to fish it out of the kitchen bin (luckily it's in a plastic bag and the bin isn't full). DH was a bit disgusted with me for putting it in the bin anyway!

(Am vaguely at talking about fishing wee samples out of bins)

divedaisy · 19/11/2008 10:47

Good Morning!
Nauseous - after I had my 12 week scan at the hospital clininc, I was told to make an appointment to see my MW at my GP practice. I had to arrange this appointment myself - maybe give your MW a phone to see what you're meant to do.

All this talk of S&V crisps - I had to go and get my bag of them.

Feeling like poo at the minute. Have taken this cough (and every time I have a bad coughing fit, I wee...) On Monday night I took some Conovonia cough medicine and threw it up 5 mins later! I work for my own company, so it's hard to take time off. At least when I'm my own boss I can get away with doing nothing at work for a day!

Re Bump names - we call ours Baby Bump! DS wants to call it Cedric Cecil Marmaduke - these were the names DH came up with when preg with DS, and DS thinks its hillarious! I feel like its a girl, but it's only a hunch. I'm looking at girly baby things, wheras I normally panic about girls clothing cos it seams so much more complicated that dressing a boy!!! And it's always (well generally) so pink, which I don't really like!

OP posts:
divedaisy · 19/11/2008 10:51

bantam73 - don't worry! Think that it is normal that your MW doens't need to see you until then. You will get your 20 week scan around 20-22 weeks, and then your next appontment will be with her 4-6 weeks after that. It just seems too long! Have you got your 20 week scan appointment yet?

Just been catching up. couldn't face going on the computer last night after the ebay listing marathons of sun/mon evenings & was totally brain dead yesterday!

llareggub here's hoping you stay at the borderline at the very worst... fingers crossed.

1stMrsF welcome back from your lovely holiday. very envious of your time away somewhere warm... DH is saving his annual leave for next may so he can take 6wks off after the new arrival comes so they'll be no holidays for us apart from time together at christmas/new year.

bantam73 it will say on the first page of your pregnancy notes book when the midwife normally sees you. it's normally a bit more often for 1st timers and less often for the rest of us. If you're not sure i'd give her a quick ring to double check

Re pee pots... my last midwife always gave me the sample pot back to re-use for next time. My current midwife hates this though as she doesn't like to take any chances of contamination in your sample. so it depends on who you get...

I'm not craving salt and vinegar crisps of any type... but i've never liked them so it's not that weird. except I have been craving salted popcorn at times... freshly popped and munched by the enormous bowlful!

Due1stMay09 · 19/11/2008 11:25

Morning all!
I cant believe how many people have salt and vinegar cravings - how strange! On our kitchen worktop at the min, i have a selection lined up of s&v pringles, s&v discos and s&v walkers..currently eyeing up the discos!!
Has anyone completely gone off any food? I used to loved avocados but i cant even look at them now without retching! Everyone thinks its hilarious but i cant stand them! I walked past some in tescos the other day and had to run out the shop i thought i was going to be sick, then i was on a break at work the other day i saw a picture of one in my magazine and i was sat in my car with my head out of the window almost being sick! Joys of pregnancy

Also been suffering with sciatica in my bottom and leg which my fiance found quite amusing walking through town on saturday, i had to kep stopping!!

Ive got another appointment with my midwife on friday (17) weeks because last week i had high blood pressure not sure why. Heard babys heart beat though and te rate was at 130 which mw said was fine - could hear my heart in the background and the swishing when the baby moved. Aww hehe

Hope everyone is feeling well today - i think im going to give me and bump some fresh air and go for a long walk on the beach seeing as i have done my morning shift at work and its a sunny day wohoo!

Momino · 19/11/2008 11:27

divedaisy, about dressing girls: for me it's addictive buying them clothes. I don't think I'd have as much pleasure buying boys clothes.

Also, I hate pink and have tried my best to avoid it by buying clothes that are red or light blue/blue, etc. Do you know how many loads of pink laundry we have? it's sickening. even the girls' bedroom is red gingham and cream, devoid of any pink. but that didn't work. dd1 can choose her own clothes now and prefers pink to my horror. i'll let her wear it if she wants but I still hate pink.

divedaisy · 19/11/2008 11:35

momino - it's the fact that it all has to be co-ordindinate - tights, shoes, skirt, top, jumper, coat, hat, handbag, hair clips etc etc!!! I saw a toddler the other day who was more fashion consious than I am - she even had her own sparkly handbag matched with sparkly nail varnish!!

Due1stMay - I made chicken breasts with hot chilli sauce last night. DH worked on late so he didn't get his, so I put the left overs in the fridge - this morning I have DEFINATELY gone off chilli chicken - OMG The smell threw me! It was minging!!!

Due1stMay09 · 19/11/2008 11:52

divedaisy i know exactly how you feel! Hehe its a strange thing isnt it?
I remember at about 10 weeks my fiance coming out of the shower and the smell of his shower gel was making me feel sick. He couldnt understand it but it smelt rank at the time! Im fine with it now though, so strange!

Jael · 19/11/2008 11:55

Talking about BP made me think, when I had my appointment with midwife last week, she didn't check my BP. I wonder if she will at my 16week check up on Friday? Kinda thought she would have, as my mom suffers with either low or high blood pressure, I haven't even thought about it till now though.

Made me laugh about the pee pots lol my midwife gave me mine back last week, but also gave me a fresh pot for this Friday?! maybe mine doesn't dispose of them at the surgery?lol I don't know, made me giggle though.

I think I've managed to establish, that two of you ladies are from Stoke somewhere yeh? Not too far away from me then, part from I don't drive. DP's family are all dotted around Stoke though

FiKelly · 19/11/2008 11:58

Due1stMay09 i normally love avocados but when pregnant with DS last time and for the last 2 years since i loathed them. I didn't discover this until xmas day last time as i'd done a seafood starter for everyone else and thought... i'd do an avocado for mine. As soon as I had the first mouthful I was retching.

This time one of my cravings is.... you guessed it Avocados with mustard vinaigrette. At one point i had to have one every day! For over two years i'd been off them...

frazzledoldbag34 · 19/11/2008 12:28

Last time I was pg I almost threw up at the smell of Clarins products - unfortunate because I had a whole load of moisturiser, cleanser, shower gel etc plus makeup and my DH had Clarins shower gel and some moisturiser. it was so bad that if he'd used any in the morning and we were in the car together I had to have the windows open or I'd be sick. Had to give all mine away and his is in the cupboard somewhere (I banned him from using it).
Still can't bear the smell of it (even when not pg). No idea why cos I used to love it. It just makes me gag (nice!)

Was just in one of those Pet City type places looking at hamsters and cages for DD1 Christmas pressie and I felt the baby jump! Defintely wasn't wind this time! Am now sitting still at home hoping it will do it again, but I think it's gone to sleep.

Also, I haven't even been booked in yet, never mind had any checks done! They didn't make me a booking apptmt before my CVS as said no point (fair enough, it was at 12 wks anyway), but then when they failed to do the CVS they just booked me for an amnio (at almost 17wks) and told me to come back then. So haven't had any bloods, blood pressure taken, wee tested, nothing! And no doubt after my amnio I'll be waiting another few wks for an appointment. Looks like I may be booking in at my 20wk scan!

Oh well, my Step-mum says when she was pg with hers she went to the doc at about 3 months and he said 'yes, you're pregnant. Come back in 5 months!' and she never saw anyone really. And her kids are fine (well, sort of!!!)

detsy · 19/11/2008 12:49

spangle would love to meet for a coffee - just let me know when you are free (ie which weekend and I can then write it down as will forget otherwise!)

I'm still at home with poorly DD so getting next to no work done and having bouts of guilt - not even dressed yet either!!

Divedaisy totally with you on the cough/pee situation - how awful is that? Asked my MW about it yesterday and she said its v v common after 1st pgncy and should stop as and when cough stops and uterus gets bigger. Always Envive are better IMO than Tena - they are much more discrete.

I was told to book into see mw at 16 - 18 weeks - ithink its primarily for the triple test if you are having it done. I have 20 week scan on 23 dec and next mw appt after that on 27th Dec. They took notes off me yesterday so they can be all completed and handed back at scan - apparently a new policy to cut down waiting time at AN clinic - spunds good to me!

alapala let us know how your scan goes today!

detsy · 19/11/2008 12:52

Sample pots - at my docs you can get them (if you put up with the tut and frown) off the receptionist - saves 60p a least!

EmmalinaC · 19/11/2008 13:06

Hello ladies, hope you're all well today?

Pee pots - I have all my appointments at St Helier Hospital where they have a big tray of them in the waiting room! It doesn't really encourage recycling...

Moino I agree entirely about buying girls' clothes. I am so pleased I am having another one - it means I can justify spending twice as much on DD1 from now on, on the grounds that I'll get double use! And I'm really looking forward to getting all those lovely outfits out of the loft again that she only wore once!

pulapula · 19/11/2008 13:11

I think if you want to have the triple blood tests done, then phone up to book an appointment with your MW. Even though I'm not having the tests, my MW said I should book to see her, as 20+ weeks is a long time off and it would be nice to listen in to heartbeat etc. She's so nice.
