OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
llareggub · 13/11/2008 19:44

bekkaboo, my scan is at 21 weeks, I think due to the fact I'll be 20 weeks over christmas week. I got the impression they were avoiding that week, wonder why?

FiKelly · 13/11/2008 19:44

bekkaboo have they said why they set date for 23+4? You could always bug them to get you in if they have a cancellation earlier...

bekkaboo · 13/11/2008 19:45

So do we all think a few days off 24 weeks is fine for anomaly scan?

llareggub · 13/11/2008 19:48

This is a difficult question to answer because it is very much focusing on the worst case scenario, isn't it? But I'm sure that in the worst possible outcome then things would move pretty quickly in terms of arranging procedures etc. But I guess there also needs to be some time for you to do some thinking, research and soul-searching.

I'd ask them to bring it forward, personally.

I have, she tutted and walked off! I cried for some reason. The receptionist said a bit late but other woman didnt really bother.

pulapula · 13/11/2008 19:50

Missyk- I had an elective cs, and I must say although it was uncomfortable to walk for the first week or so, I was amazed how quickly i recovered, and the scar is so neat and small you wouldn't even know it was there.

I was given DS to hold straightaway, and once stitched up I was taken to a recovery room where I breastfed DS with no trouble. It was such a calm and wonderful experience. I was nervous and I had a few moments where I felt like I was going to be sick, but I just had to tell the anaethetist and he put something in my drip (i think the nausea was to do with BP dropping).

The first 18 hours were bliss- i had a catheter in, so just stayed in bed and a really strong painkiller so didn't feel a thing. Next morning they wanted me to walk to my private room and take a shower and take the dressing off. That was really hard (particularly as I am squeamish and I was worried it was too soon to do that). I took arnica before and after, and mw and nurses were amazed by the lack of bruising so I'm sure that really helped the healing process. They put a canula (sp) in my side for a morphine drip but I didn't need any- I just had oral painkillers. Walking was hard at first- only short slow walks. The "no lifting" rule is great for getting out of manual tasks lol. I was lucky as DH booked 6 weeks off work so I had someone with me in those early weeks. I guess it would be harder if you didn't have someone around- the no driving for 6 weeks was the hardest part- I felt able to drive after about 4 weeks.

I hope that gives a bit of an insight into an elective CS. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

bekkaboo · 13/11/2008 19:52

well ive a quick look on net and it says should be performed 18 to 22 weeks which makes me worry and that my mw didnt seem to happy, she is away tomorrow but going ring me back next week to sort out

FiKelly · 13/11/2008 19:56

bekkaboo i'd keep at them... esp if your midwife isn't happy either. I'd want it a bit earlier if pos myself. If only to put my mind at rest from another thing to worry about.

bekkaboo · 13/11/2008 19:59

Thanks everyone you've said what I wanted to hear!

TBH im so diappointed with the un friendlyness? of taff there today im seriously thinking of changing.

What about the 16 week blood tests? Are these ok at 17+2? Because the Blood test unit said they thought had to be 16 weeks?

I dont think its my day!

agooboo · 13/11/2008 20:06

20 week scans! Not got my 12 week one yet and I'll be 13 on sat.

bekkaboo · 13/11/2008 20:11

Agooboo when is it then? Had mine today 13 +3

llareggub · 13/11/2008 20:14

The 12 week scan can be done anywhere between 12 and 14 weeks, so you should be OK. I had mine at 11 weeks (too early) and 14 weeks.

bekkaboo · 13/11/2008 20:17

Im def going call hospital tomorrow and ask to be brought forward if they say no im just going to ask why? I dont believe that is has anything to do with xmas break, my scan is last week of january.

Apparently Ill be having a 32 week scan too to check something, i would imagine that'll be late too and ill already have had the baby!

llareggub · 13/11/2008 20:19

bekkaboo, when I was pregnant with DS I had scans at 28 weeks, 32 weeks, and 36 weeks. I would have had another at 40 weeks but out he popped at 37 weeks. I was under consultant care and they scanned me at every visit.

agooboo · 13/11/2008 20:20

Not even got a letter through for appointment yet. midwife said it could be up to 16 weeks. she was a student midewife so maybe she got it wrong?

llaregub - my DS2 was an Oct 06 baby. x

I just looked at the bugaboos - not sure if I like the look of them?

agooboo · 13/11/2008 20:24

bekkaboo - you do right ringing. keep hassling and send a letter if you need to.

llareggub · 13/11/2008 20:24

Ooh, what date? Mine was the 27th! Now due 12 May.

agooboo · 13/11/2008 20:24

BTW - up to 50% OFF mamas and papas maternity wear on line

bekkaboo · 13/11/2008 20:26

llaregub just read my hosp info pack and it says

the anatomy scan of offered to all patients between 18-20 weeks! Im stressing I know but 23+4 seems to far!

Think 32 weeks scan is to check the fetal lie or something similar, not sure i guess consultant wil explain at 17 week app.

agooboo · 13/11/2008 20:31

llareggub He came on 25th and it's my birthday on 12th may! Oh my I'm losing the plot - he is September 06 not oct. DS1 was Oct. dur! I'm losing it! There is just a month in them then.

dandy its worth asking

bekka - do you think they could have made a mistake with your dates?

Jael · 13/11/2008 21:13

All the talk about hearing baby's heartbeat has got me all jealous lol I'm 15w1d today and have felt no movements (and it's my second baby) and not heard a heartbeat I've had to argue with a receptionist at my doctors surgery this miorning, as I want to see my midwife tomorrow. I've been having pain in my pubic bone I think it's called, really bad like crampy pains. Anyone else had this? I've had it for two days on and off, so I've had to argue to see my midwife tomorrow, hopefully she'll tell me what it is.

On the subject of pushchairs, MIL bought us a very nice pushchair for DD (who is almost 3) she's got it into her head that were going to be re-using it for this baby. Little does she know, we hardly used it, as it turned out to be very heavy and awkward for me to push as baby got bigger..don't know how to get around that one...

Jael X

FiKelly · 13/11/2008 21:21

jael I'm not feeling any movement yet... and it's my 2nd time too... i'm at 13+3. Good for you fighting your corner to see the midwife. I had pains/aches with cramps in my ovary area early on for about a week. They said it was to do with the uterus expanding. Maybe your little one is on a growth spurt and pushing on you in an awkward way?
