Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 11:27

oh and glad you've got some medication- If you need it then it's better for you and baby!! Dont feel you have to be superwoman and cope with it all!!

What meds are you on BTW? i'm still on cyclazine, and need to see GP next week for some more.

Diege · 13/11/2008 11:51

Hi GLASK! I had a choice of cyclazine or stemitol and took stemitol as have taken this in past. Dissolves under my lip too so no worry about bringing back up.
Interesting what you say about home birth. I think my main concern is that in past labours I've had epidurals, so could I cope with downgrading to gas and air? Having said that, with dd2 it didn't 'take' so managed on gas and air anyway, and with dd3 I was begging for one, but by the time it arrived I was managing on gas and air ok (took it anyway! -flet rude not to after all my whingeing!).
Am trying to psyche myself up for trip outside, but am expecting parcel too so may wait a bit. Ordered a few bits from Funmum - naughty I know but couldn't resist 3 for 2

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 12:02

Wow-you're lucky to be getting stronger stuff from the off- wish my GP was that good instead of giving me crappy maxolon!!

I managed without any pain relief for both mine, but kinda wish i'd had something with DS as afterwards for my stiches i was on the gas and air for 1hr 45mins solid!! My body didn't react to it so well either and i was spaced out for the next 24hrs... if i'd have had an epidural they could have kept it in then for stiches too!!

My biggest fear about home birth was that i'd need stiches again, but i did things my way and didn't tear at all!! I honestly felt i could have ran a marathon within a couple of hours.

Diege · 13/11/2008 12:20

That's inspiring GLASK - will be good to hear how it goes this time!
Have heard about maxalon . It's drug of choice in Australia and they all whinge about how crap it is

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 12:21

Diege, that Stemitol is great! I had it when I had vertigo. It was bloody horrible, I couldn't move my head without throwing up.

Lots of people have said that Home Births are actually safer as you are more relaxed as you know the environment. I was very tempted but DH wasn't to keen. But then again where I am having DS2 is basically the same. They can't do C-Sections there so would have to rush me to a bigger hospital anyway.

I went into town and I'm now thinking I was a bit too long. I feel pretty terrible now. I had loads of people telling me not to over do it and I think I did.

tinkisexcitedabouthavingababy · 13/11/2008 12:24

ye for medication diege lets hope that sickness stops soon
hbj - good luck for scan tomorrow exciting
kay-i have just finished my xmas shop all done and am relieved
nat - come on get that sleepy doormouse moving
i only had gas and air with dd more worried about tearing again this time had 2nd degree very nearly 3rd degree with dd as they had 2 get her out using a ventouse
right must have lunch then followed by my wispa, thought cant go into town and not get one
i am knackered and cold, got wet in town

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 12:26

poor you Kayz- i think i've overdone it on my sorting and clearing etc... i'm feeling achy and tired still from yesterday!!

Diege- i was saying to Kayz last night that i'll probs be on the wagon when i'm having my home birth!! I could have done it while in labour with DD!! In fact i'm gonna make it my aim to be on here giving you all a blow by blow account of my contractions!!

Playingthe9monthwait · 13/11/2008 12:26

Hi Guys, not had time to catch up, work is too busy today (damn working for a toy company at "christmas") but I just checked in to see how Nat is doing.

Nat - I am so happy that everything is ok and your back home now, take care, xxx

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 12:27

Tink- i was the same with DS- very nearly in theatre for stiches, and afterwards they said it should have been a theatre job... but mine was mainly because DS kicked the top of my womb and pushed the whole of his body out in one kick... so it was too fast and unexpected for my body!!

Diege · 13/11/2008 12:35

Kay - Yes I'd heard stemitol was prescibed for vertigo/inner ear disturbances etc.. Hopefully it will work wonders for me this time too!
Re: homebirth my problem would be convincing dh too..still, there's time yet
GLASK, will hold you to 'live birth' account . Maybe try and make it 10am ish rather than at night?
TINK, I had borderline 3rd degree with dd2 - not nice. Apparently my scar tissue from episiotomoy with dd1 'saved' me . Get out of your wet things and get some rest!
Hi PLAYING, hope it calsm down at work soon, though can't see that happening any time soon...
Right, I must go and get dd2's birthday bits...have sick bag and just had toast so I have a good 30 mins...

GYo · 13/11/2008 12:36

Hey Diege- hurray for the meds at last.
You really do inspire me tho, staying so chirpy whilst being sick!

Re homebirths and stiches, what happens if you need them? do you have to go in?

GYo · 13/11/2008 12:39

Also- whilst im asking Qs-

Do babies have tendency towards being breech from the start. Everytime i've been scanned its breech and also everytime MW has felt it has... wondered if there was high chance it would be breech at the end...

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 12:39

I had 3 stitches with DS and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I manage to not tear this time round.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 12:48

GYo- babies do tend to be breech until about 35weeks i think, and then they become engaged. they can still move into breech after that, but normally can be turned with some work on your part with positioning etc to help tun them.

Diege- i think i'll be a night-timer... with Ds had my first contraction at 12.30am, he was born at 9.04am!! with DD had first big contraction at 7pm and had ber at 1.45am.

also i think they can do stitches if its only a few needed, but sometimes you may need to go in, if its a 2nd degree tear. My DH was against it with DD, but it was down to me, and now he agree's that it was so much better all round having her at home, 45mins after sh was born we were cuddled up in bed with our new baby girl, midwives had left us and it was amazing!! I'll never forget that precious first night.... with DS i was in hospital the first night and he fed constantly, but they took him away to the nursery so i could sleep, even though i didn't want to!!

GYo · 13/11/2008 13:00

Thanks Glask- good to know re stitches and breech.

Your description of first night after homebirth is so lovely its made me well up.
Pregnancy hormones Im sure

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 13:02

haha!! i well up everytime i think of it!! led in bed with My new baby girl, DH just staring at her deeply in love with her, and then the special moment when i brought DS in to meet her when he'd woken up!! the beaming smile on his face was just amazing!!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 13:06

I dont think i slept at all that first night!! I know i text everyone at about 5am to say she'd been born!! and DH nodded off at about 4am and slept till 7!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 13:11

right i'm off to get the kids a nap, and maybe try to get one myself!! I can feel my eyelids dropping!! I'll probs be on this afternoon/eveing as DH is working a late shift again.

sorkycake · 13/11/2008 13:13

Diege if you're at all worried about the pain then I would seriously opt for a home water birth because the pain relief is incredible and the water provides support against tearing. With Ds1 I had a small labial tear which the m/w said she could stitch or let it heal on it's own. I opted to leave it after she said that it often heals better when left to itself.

With Ds2 I had a labial graze, which I thought was actually more painful afterwards but heyho!

I'm the biggest wuss about Diege and this will be my 3rd birth at home in a pool. I'll be really honest and say I would be reluctant to give birth at home without a pool. I too would be worried about only managing with G&A.

I have found with the 2 boys that I've waited until 7cm dilated before getting in, then managed with nothing until transition. I use the G&A once I'm in the 2nd stage really. I've never felt 'the ring of fire'

I deliver the placenta in the water too, then I get out.

The m/w are very unintrusive (?sp), staying in the background until the action really starts and even then they are reluctant to get involved, just closely observing every now and again. You can eat and drink what you like (not wine obv) and afterwards you have a cuppa and a chat etc, maybe go to bed and snuggle....it's truly magical giving birth at home.

For me it just feels right iyswim.

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 13:14

Awww Glask that sounds lovely!!!

I'm having a really cheesy hour. Westlife's top 10 are on one of the music channels. I lurve Westlife!!!

Just ordered this How cute?????

Diege · 13/11/2008 13:55

aww GLASK that's so cute!!!
SORKY, you know I hadn't even thought about water birth, you've def. given me food for thought. I suppose I'm not really a 'water' person, and have always thought I wouyld be wet and uncomfortable if I had to keep on getting in and out. Plus a bit about the whole fishing net and poo thing BUT if the pain relief is good then yes I'd give it a go. I can always get out!
Hi GYO! Yes, breech or transverse normal until about 36 weeks when they may start to consider manual turning, but most babies move by then anyway as GLASK says.
Well, have been out and it was sooo hard. Only 15 mins walk to shops but the outside smells had me gagging...Pn plus side have got dd2 some nice bits to add to HSM camera. The sort of crap they ask for, but nice crap

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 13/11/2008 13:56

Sorry Glask, I didn't want you to think, "jeez, I give her my number then she's texting at all hours!", and I always worry texting/phoning late with kids in the house, DH quite often leaves his phone upstairs and his mum always texts at really stupid times, have lost count the number of times she's woken the boys up (although it would help if DH would bring the bloody thing downstairs with him!)

Diege, it sounds like the MW appt. couldn't have gone better I expect the meds are a relief. Homebirth, I had every drug under the sun I think with DS1, the epi didn't work till after I'd had him, I screamed the hospital walls down around me, well I nearly did! DS2 I had just a few puffs on the old G&A, still screamed the walls down, but I felt I coped much better than with DS1, but I think that had a lot to do with that although my body was going through the same thing, I wasn't completely drugged up on pethidine so my mind was clear. The only thing putting me off a HB is the fact that I scream (and moo, and grunt, and groan, and generally make more noise than I thought I ever possibly could!), and I would be very at seeing the neighbours after!

God I've forgotten everything now DH just rang and has taken my mind off of it!

I have had a movement, just one, after a big contraction so think he was probably reacting to that. Have had a few more big contractions while walking round town (I had to stop in the middle of Woolies, some old bloke, bless him, looked like he was going faint! LMAO) but the baby didn't respond to them, so might have just been coinsidence.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 15:53

Nat- dont worry about it!! once i go to bed i always turn my phone off or just onto vibrate. and i dont think i make much noise, but a couple of weeks after i had DD, the neighbour at the time asked if i'd had a homebirth... when i said yes, she said that her kids had heard me, but when she came for a listen couldn't hear anything so didn't believe them and told em to go back to sleep!! Made me laugh!! But she wasn't bothered... and neither was i..... though i think i'm a quiet labourer... DH said i am until the pushing starts!!

Sorky- i was certain i wanted a water pool at home this tme. But i dont think we'd fit one in at all!! It'd mean giving birth in the dining room and living without the dining table for the few weeks before... and i dont wanna deliver in their, would rather have baby in my bedroom like i did with DD.

I had a good nap, slept for over an hour.... and i feel even more tired now!!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 13/11/2008 16:03

LOL Glask, the pushing is where I go quiet, shame it only lasts 5 minutes in a way!

Looks like I'm gonna be back in tonight, starting to get less worried and more annoyed now, I know I shouldn't be but it just feels like everything is up in the air all day and then it's all go go go at night time, and I miss putting the boys to bed, or at least being here while DH does it How long can they seriously expect me to keep going in before they do something to either find out what's going on, or at least stop insisting I come in for what seems like nothing? I just feel like I am wasting their time, and I know it's better to be safe than sorry, and all the rest of it, but it is a PITA!

I think I am all out of moan cards again....

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 16:13

i have just got all my clubcard points... and maybe they'll take my £40 of advantage card points too??

If you go in again just keep us informed yeah!! Hope its the same as yesterday and with HB being ok send you home and just get you in with a consultant... can they not do a scan to see if they can see anything?
