smileycat · 13/02/2009 19:20

Our summers out here get in the high 30's so I'm going to melt in the summer months, good job we have an outdoor pool that we can use in the afternoons.
We have just booked the ferry for our return..for good back to the UK on Aug 3rd so as long as I don't go a month early like I did with my ds I should make it back to Pompy before I drop & get to enjoy the last month of summer in the UK

Heebychick · 16/02/2009 16:20

Hi ladies, this thread had been thrown out of my 'threads i'm on' section so thought i'd write and say hi.

DD is suffering with a nasty cough today so i'm going to have to cancel the working day i'd booked (after deciding not to take a holiday day!) tomorrow and stay home with her - how confusing for my poor boss! Really strange that she had a temp of 104 during the night but seems much better today, but still coughing so my MIL won't have her in case she catches it (she lives with my DH's grandmother who is 89 so not good for her to catch anything). Toddlers!

Anyhow she's napping now so am sat down with ovaltine and the bicuit barrel - choc bourbon anyone??

Pezzina · 16/02/2009 17:20

Mmmm - yes please. I'm currently munching on an apple to keep the nausea at bay but would much rather have a biccy

Sorry your DD is not well. I've also got tomorrow off - and Wednesday. Looking forward to the lie ins. 'Tis such a struggle getting up at 6am at the moment.

C1NDY · 17/02/2009 09:22

Hi All, pass the biccie!! Goush, I had the worst nausea yesterday (silently I am happy I feel sick). I have slight nausea today, it tends to build up during the day. I went home early yesterday and slept from 3 to 5, then I had to go and pick up my daughter from nursery. DH went to the footy Arsenal v Cardiff, so was on my own to try to put the little one to bed - it is difficult when all you want to do is lie down!!

Does anyone feel like not looking at food. I can't make myself go into the kitchen - I am sure I never had this with my DD.

It will be week 7 for me tomorrow.

Pezzina when is your scan booked for?

Pezzina · 17/02/2009 10:03

Hi Cindy Scan is booked for tomorrow at 4pm. Nervous and excited.

I had a couple of days last week when the nausea had eased off but it came back with a vengence at the weekend. My DH has been doing most of the evening cooking as I don't really feel hungry until I have a little mouthful - then I realise that I am hungry. I've not actually been sick though - thank goodness!

C1NDY · 17/02/2009 11:25

Pezzina Good luck, I am sure all will be fine. Please let us know as soon as you see your little bean.

I have nausea and fake being sick (I make the noises but nothing comes out... is that TMI) I am just feeling nausious all the time, today is better than yesterday. I keep eating things as someone told me it helps. I have not had a proper dinner now for a whole week! but I have enough reserves for the little bean.

All the best. I will be thinking of you.

Cindy

Pezzina · 17/02/2009 11:33

Thanks Cindy

I agree on the constant grazing - it certainly helps when I'm at work to have fruit and snacks to nibble on - it does look like I'm constantly eating though

Heebychick · 17/02/2009 11:47

pezzina lots of luck for later, am i right in thinking this is your first (hence the lie ins) you are so lucky to have a nice relaxing few days - ahh those memories!

Yes i agree, the grazing helped me and still is when the nausea comes back, i didn't have any actual sickness but felt like i'd just stepped off a boat all the time - yuk.

So glad it's gone now mostly, although cindy i really feel for you with having a little one to cope with, i really struggled in the first 12 or so weeks and if it helps it is a lot better now i have some energy back. my DH just took a lot more on (after my protests) and it helped loads.

C1NDY · 18/02/2009 09:02

Heeby Nausea is a little better. But can still feel like you described stepping off of a boat. I feel queezy but its not as bad as it was on Monday and Tuesday. I do feel a little tired even though I slept from 8pm last night till 6am this morning.

I thought I would wait until 12 weeks before I started to exercise... what is everyone else doing to stay fit?

WanabeMum · 18/02/2009 13:47

Hello everyone!
I'm officially starting my 10th week of pregnancy, yay!!! Should have my scan date by the end of next week according to the midwife, so all exciting here.

C1ndy my midwife suggested a yoga class and some swimming. Apparently most classes will accommodate for pregnant ladies as long as the instructor is aware. So like a good girl i signed up and will have my first yoga class tomorrow evening. Not really the exercisey type but feel it is my duty to look after myself now.

How's everyone else?

How did the scan go pezzina?

nelix2000 · 18/02/2009 14:29

Hey everyone!
c1ndy I joined the gym when I was 6 weeks and was going 3 times a week. Now I am going 1-2 times a week as the more pregnant I get the harder my program seems! I will add swimming in at about 30 weeks and keep up with my hour of cardio and light weights. Must say because of it and running afer a 2 year old I am MUCH fitter than I was with ds but still grossly unfit. My personal trainer is ready to kick me into shape after I give birth. Also bought a decent bike for after I give birth. I used to be heavily into cycling then fell out of it and became unfit, so plan on doing that asap!

Been really sick lately and yesterday got a very early but very definate braxton hicks. Was as painful as I remember lol!!! begining to get nervous about labour as my third trimester draws near.

DP xrayed a baby who was 24 weeks(2 weeks less than ours is) and said she was so tiny but fighting. Makes me sad that she has to see them when they should still be in the womb. But also good to hear success stories!

Heebychick · 18/02/2009 15:06

nelix that's amazing! my cousin had a baby girl at 24 weeks, and she is now 2 and half and fighting fit, she still has oxygen at home sometimes and is smaller than average but she's catching up well. I remember seeing a photo of her when she was born and she had a gold band round her wrist, my mum asked if it was some sort of lucky bracelet but it turns ou it was her daddy's wedding ring round her wrist!!!

cindy shamefully i haven't done anything really, although i am enrolling into yoga as i did it last time and it really helped. Also i will try hard to get back into swimming next week. I must do something as i have very 'floppy' muscles especially round my tummy, i hurt my tummy muscles just rolling over awkwardly in bed.

pezz any scan news honey??

wannabe 2 weeks to go hun till you can breathe easy hey

xx

Pezzina · 18/02/2009 17:07

Hello all - just come back from having my scan. All good news. Baby is measuring correctly for dates - I am officially 11 weeks 4 days pregnant My due date is 5 September - the day my brother is getting married! Shld prove interesting.

They also did the Nuchal screening and the measurement was 0.99 mm - so nice and low. I've had some blood taken - so should have the full results and risk assessment back in a week.

Feeling very happy and hope to be able to relax a little bit now and enjoy being pregnant.

Pezzina · 18/02/2009 17:09

Cindy re exercise - I have hired a cross-trainer for home and try to do 15-20 mins on that each morning followed by some toning exercises. Not loads but enough to make me feel like I'm doing something .

C1NDY · 19/02/2009 09:13

Pezz Congratulations!! it must be a sigh of relief that everything is doing what it should and your bean is growing. Now relax and enjoy!

I am going to start exercising at week 12 as I am worried I may over do it. I have a mini gym at home (which I don't use that often) but am planning to walk on the treadmill and try and do 2miles every day - that's about half hour walk. I am already three stone over weight so must try to keep the weight down for this pg.

Well wonderful news... speak to you all soon

Cindy

WanabeMum · 19/02/2009 12:12

Congratulations Pezzina, it's lovely to hear that your scan went well and you can breath a sigh of relief.
I had a shock yesterday, a letter from my local hospital saying my booking in appointment and forst scan has been booked for Monday 23rd February at 9:30am. That means I'm only 9weeks and 5days when I have the scan! Assuming that's ok, people are telling me it's good because i can relax sooner but not too sure! What do you all think?

WanabeMum · 19/02/2009 12:12

oops that should say first scan, doh

Heebychick · 19/02/2009 13:41

Hi guys,

pezz that's such great news, well done you, i hope you celebrated with a nice cup of hot choc!

cindy i agree with you re exercise, a little every day has to be brilliant and if you join yoga maybe as well it could help keep you supple as well. It worked really well for me and i shall join again asap.

wanabe that's great re scan, it's the right date for a booking in appointment but the scan sounds early, although i had heard that some areas are offering an early scan now. I would just check that you will be offered a 12 week nuchal one if you are wanting one as well, if not then i would ask for this to happen insead of the 9 week one as you won't be able to have any down's tests done at this early stage.

Let's hope this is an early offering in addition to the 12 week and enjoy! you'll see a fait bit already which should help relax you

I had a tooth out yesterday (ouch ouch) and as i laid down i was obviously quite nervous and i could feel baby doing somersaults!! i guess it picked up on my raised heartbeat and thought 'hang on what's happening here to my mum?' it was lovely to feel but didn't like the whole experience!

xx

C1NDY · 19/02/2009 15:26

Wanabemum It is early to have a scan but like Heeby said check that they will also offer you a Nuchal scan also. I haven't seen my doctor yet, it i make it past eight weeks I am going to see him.

Heeby goush, hope you placed your tooth under the pillow - my daughter has been going on about wanting to be a Tooth Fairy for ages now. I am sure she looks at her teeth and wonders when one of them will fall out so that she can gets some money. Its all down to Peppa Pig - a childrens programme which is very good actually!! hehhee. Well, I hope you are feeling better its a wonderful feeling when they start to move... I remember the first time it was like butterflies in my belly!

Nelix I hope you are feeling better. I have been nauseas but it seemed to have waved off a bit, I get it more in the evenings. Is this your first baby ? Are you going to have a birth plan? I had one, but it went out of the window hehehe.. I had to have a C-Section in the end, which I love to say to my friends "That I was too posh to push..." hehehee! so this time around I am sure I will be offered an elective C-Section.

C1NDY · 19/02/2009 15:28

Heeby I meant the baby not the teeth... it is wonderful when they move.. hehehehe!! goush I type before I can think! got to go the work whip is being cracked

Heebychick · 19/02/2009 20:35

Ha ha that made me chuckle xx

smileycat · 19/02/2009 21:52

Wonderful news on the scan Pezz so happy for you. I have mine on Monday very nervous but also looking forward to getting it out of the way & knowing that all is ok.

Just got back from the UK we spent 5 days touring the country telling all the family our news, we got great responses from everyone, some of them I was a little worried about how they would react as there is a 10/11 year gap between ds & this one but they were all lovely. Just MIL to go now as she arrives here tomorrow for a planned holiday so we thought we would keep the news from her & tell her in person when she arrives....wish me luck

My niece was at my parents house with her 2yr old dd & my ds followed her around like a puppy dog, he couldn't do enough for her & cuddled her on his knee for ages, it was so lovely to watch, he even turned around to us & said I don't mind if its a girl now Abi is really cool

WanabeMum · 20/02/2009 12:49

Hi again,
Sorry but what's a nuchal scan? I was told this one is a dating scan. I'm having blood tests for downs when I see my midwife at 16 weeks so not sure about the nuchal scan?

I've been told i'm having blood screening tests, BP taken, weight and height, and that I will be booked in. This is all very new to me and I'm in South Wales so not sure if things are different here to where most of you live? So confusing!

spats · 20/02/2009 14:32

hey all, Pezz - glad the scan went well. I still have 2 weeks to go and am getting impatient. I want to make sure everything is Ok but its such a long time to wait. I have my London one on 5th March and local one on 6th March. I did try and make local one earlier as if there is any bad news would rather be near home to get it (i am a very bad pessimist!!) waiting for them to phone back and see if can get the scan earlier in week though.
Wanabe the nuchal scan is one they do for screening for downs syndrome. It has to be done between 11 and 13 weeks. The blood tests i think can be later. Maybe they don't do that scan in Wales, but if you look on the internet and read the information on nuchal scans and decide you want one, you will be able to find a private clinic. I am having mine done at fetal medicine centre in London. They charge £150 but have experts.
there. Some people dont opt for the scan its up to you, but if you do remember its only in those few weeks when its accurate so you need to get booking.

Wanabe, i was given a scan date at about 9 weeks which i thought was a bit early. When the midwife booked me in she said they had wrong EDD on form so thats why scan was early. As Heeby said it would be too early for the nuchal scan if thats offered at your hospital, i would check with the midwife. Heeby thanks for offer of baby clothers, mind you with this money we get i can buy tons, a bit of a surprising bonus, can't believe we are given something for nothing and its not means tested - horray x

Pezzina · 20/02/2009 17:33

Hi ladies,

So glad its nearly home time - I'm super pooped.

Wannabe - my dating scan also doubled up as the Nuchal scan. As Spats says - it has to be done between 11 - 13 weeks for it to be accurate. They then combine the results from that with the results from your blood test and get an overall risk for downs.

I hope everyone else is doing well.

Good luck with your scan on Monday Smileycat. I really enjoyed my scan in the end. I did have to get up twice and 'jiggle' around because baby had its arms up over its face and they couldn't get a good measurement. It was wonderful seeing baby move its arms and legs and wriggle around.

Also, my DH and I treated ourselves to a fetal doppler which had arrived the day before the scan. So I had heard a heart beat and knew baby was alive and well which made things much less nerve racking.
