feeling awful.

just had a tesco dhop delivered, we are on a 2nd floor flat, but the drivers usually bring the stuff upstairs with a good grace, especially when i wave my bump at them, and i carry as many bags as i can manage.

today's driver went all jobsworth about it being 4 flights of stairs (you know how flight of stairs sometimes has a turn in the middle?) and it not being his job. So i shouted at him and he did bring everything all the way up in a complete grump

and £40 worth of shopping was blardy missing - all the nice cheeses and stuff for lunch with my birthday sister. grump.

Customer service lady was lovely and scottish though, and still lovely even when I cried down the telephone at her

mumoverseas · 25/10/2008 13:10

oh dear, poor you onward. Well done for shouting at him though (slightly more justified than my shout this morning!)
hope they sort out getting the missing stuff to you. I've only used home delivery a few times years ago but was thinking about using it when back next month but have heard quite a few horror stories about it. Is it normally good?
maybe the next thead should be a 'tears and tantrums one'?

spottyshoes · 25/10/2008 14:05

Well done O&O! Apparently alot of them wont negotiate stairs or dogdy entrances anymore incase they hurt themselves That said, a couple in a nearby village are getting sued by a Tesco's delivery man who tripped over their uneven path and hurt himself. Hence why no-one uses Tesco delivery in our area anymore! Hope they sort out their mistake for you and you get some nice free wine cheese pate pregnancy edible treat to compensate!

TinkerBellesMum · 25/10/2008 14:13

Aww mumoverseas, she sounds sweet. Tink is so magnetic that everyone wants to be her friend and adults want to babysit! I?ve never been convinced of my abilities as a parent, but I just keep looking at her and thinking, ?well I couldn?t have done that badly!? Don?t worry about your boy, I?m sure he will get over it, just tell him you?re feeling a little stressed being pregnant and shouldn?t have taken it out on him. Next time he?ll probably just hide until you?re finished!

Spottyshoes, I think a Sporticus crush is quite acceptable; I seem to remember there being a thread about him and it was the general consensus! I agree about the flavour, it?s frustrating! I don?t get it too much but I feel like it?s taking the importance away from Lily-Hope. Does it feel like a boy? I find if you don?t over think it, take some moments to be calm and just think about the baby the right one just feels right. Of course you?ll be happy with what you get but it?s the attitude that?s irritating and people?s assumptions they know what you want.

MarkStretch, that must be so annoying! Does everyone have to drink when they go out? Being pregnant doesn?t mean you can?t drink anything at all anyway.

O&U Tesco are supposed to deliver to your door no matter what floor it is, especially if you are disabled, pregnant or a parent on your own. I hope Customer Services are going to say something because he was out of order and I hope you manage to track down your shopping £40 is a lot of shopping to go missing!

I?m having a quiet day in at Mum?s. Dad?s at work, Mum?s out with my nephews and Tink is at her party. I?ve got TBD?s laptop and sitting here surfing and about to play WoW. Nice blissful day!

BloodRedTulips · 25/10/2008 14:47

ok so it's absolutely divine even the kids were impressed.

date and orange ripple loaf;

1 orange
250g dates (chopped)
6 tablespoons water
250g s-r flour (i used spelt because of dd and just added extra baking powder)
1 tsp baking powder
150g castor sugar
150g soft margarine (although i used softened butter as i'm not a fan of marg)
3 eggs

grate the rind off the orange and squeeze the juice

put the dates, orange juice and water in a pan and heat gently for 10 mins til the dates are soft, then leave to cool slightly

put the rind in a bowl with all the other ingredients but not the date mix and blend by hand or mixer til smooth

put one third of the cake mix in a greased and lined 2lb loaf tin and spread it out. dollop half the dates over this and spread, add another layer of cake, then dates and finish with cake. (don't panic at this stage, it seems like you've not got nearly enough and you'll be double checking the recipe and wondering whether they really meant a 2 lb tin!)

bake at 180 deg C for about an hour, check it after about half the time as it may need to be covered with foil if it's getting too brown. when it's done it goes a lovely brown colour and cracks on the top.

leave to cool on a wire rack for about 10 seconds until you can't resist the urge to dive in

BloodRedTulips · 25/10/2008 14:49

grrr at your delivery man onward, how bloody rude to expect a pregnant woman to do his job for him. arsehole!

mumoverseas · 25/10/2008 15:28

ooh, just seen the pregnant weather lady on sky news wearing what looked like that really nice dress someone told us about a few days ago! We'll all be rushing out to buy one now!

MarkStretch · 25/10/2008 16:53

That sounds gorgeous Pink- and it will be handy to use at Christmas to use up all those dates no one ever eats! I will have to try it.

DD and I are going to make a carrot and orange cake now with some cranberries and anything else in the cupboard thrown in.

I am trying to get my friend to join MN- I'm not sure if she has yet or not but while I'm waiting here is her 'Quick and Easy Sticky Toffee Pudding' recipe.

For the sauce
50g butter
110g soft brown sugar
110g golden syrup
few drops vanilla extract
150ml double cream

for the pudding
1 shop bought rectangular ginger cake

Preheat oven to 190c, fan 175c, gas 5. To make sauce put everything except the vanilla extract and the double cream into a saucepan. Leave over moderate heat till sugar dissolved, then turn up heat slightly and let bubble quietly for 5mins-no longer. Add a few drops of van extract. Pour in the cream and stir. Cut the cake into 8 slices. Place these in a small, deep baking dish and pour the toffee sauce over them. Bake in the oven for 15 mins. Serve with ice cream. Yum yum yum xxxxxx

MarkStretch · 25/10/2008 16:54

Maybe we should write a 'Due Fab Feb 2009' Cookbook?

I can see the royalties flooding in already...

MarkStretch · 25/10/2008 16:56

Oh and I bought this for the baby today.

spottyshoes · 25/10/2008 17:05

I have a cookbook work in progress! It is 50 higgledy piggledy pages of word document cut and pasted from MN, Aitch's BLW Blog and various other sources

Love the snowsuit - so cute! I was tempted by one the other day but DH was practical () "Due at end of Feb...Poss over due - middle of March....Could be warm blah blah. I argued the oppposite reasons and might just go back and get it anyway

mslucy · 25/10/2008 18:12

yeah a cookbook would be awesome.

am now having a bit of a thing for aubergines (having eaten spinach everyday for 4 months) and was thinking of having a crack at Imam bayaldi - a turkish aubergine thing.

have found some recipes on line and am going to experiment.

will report back.

did a fab parmigiana the other day - dh was almost licking the plate

MarkStretch · 25/10/2008 20:11

Oh my god. I have eaten FAR too much cake.

Oooffff.

onwardandoutward · 25/10/2008 20:29

The shop repicked all the missing stuff and had it with us within a couple of hours, so that was good.

I have to say that once upon a time I had an order which had a good £50 worth of someone else's expensive meat and stuff in - I didn't notice till the driver had gone. And when I rang to tell them, they said "oh, just keep it", so with luck someone else had a similar jackpot freebie bonanza in my area today

Felt a bit bad for the driver. The woman I spoke to at the local store (repicking my missing stuff) said that the area manager was waiting in her office for the driver to get back so he could "have a word with him". I just said I never wanted to see that driver again...

Normally they are absolutely fine - friendly and pretty much bring what you order. THey were the first out of the whatsit with the internet grocery shopping, so I've been with them since whenever that was - 1998? 1999?. My sister says that actually the waitrose home delivery seems to be much better value and, pricewise, it's pretty much the same... so I'm kind of tempted to try them out. There's such a weight of intertia, though, when you've got your favourites all set up, yk?

I'm loving having the organic veg box once a week though - we seem to be able to go much longer between big grocery shops with regular fresh veg arriving

Oh, and we had a lurvely day with my sister. Too much cake and chilli!!!

Cocodrillo · 25/10/2008 20:33

Onward Ocado's customer service is fab, the drivers are all lovely, and there's very rarely anything substitututed or about to go out of date. The sites easy to use too. They used to be more expensive, but they're matching their prices to Tesco these days.

Gawd, I sound like I'm a saleswoman or something, will shut up

herbgarden · 25/10/2008 21:03

Cook book please !!.....I love cooking but don't seem to have time or inclination anymore and dh says we need to be healthier (miserable git).....you lot are very good cooking all these different delicious sounding things. Sticky toffee is one of my faves (not great with the heartburn though)

I am soooo crossing my fingers for a post 5am start tomorrow morning. We went to a 2 yr olds bday party this pm and ds fell asleep enroute. We stayed a while after (she's a good friend and we came furthest) and put DS in the bath and came home in pj's, picked up our curry and put him to bed at 8.30....He's been waking religiously at 5.10am and I am dreading another day like that - worst case scenario is a 4am start tomorrow morning. I've been off to bed at 9pm every day so at least I get some sleep. I'm so grouchy.

Nunight !

thehouseofmirth · 25/10/2008 21:06

Anoht ervote for Ocado here.

The clocks go back tonight, don't they? If you haven't got any children yet then enjoy your extra hour in bed. Next year instead of getting a bonus lie in you'll probably be getting up at 5am instead of 6am instead!

Cocodrillo · 25/10/2008 21:11

oh herbgarden, that's not fun! poor you. let's hope he's worn out and sleeps in a bit tomorrow.

DD2 was awake for hours randomly in the middle of the night, then up at 6.30 as normal. In between our next door neighbour suddenly started crashing around and making sawing and banging noises at about 5am (seriously hoping he's not been disposing of a body or something ... I mean, why?). Anyway upshot is I got 4 hrs (broken) sleep at most and am very grumpy. Also, why is it always me who has to struggle out of bed to tend to the wailing infant? Specially as I have SPD and it's not easy to get comfy in bed once, let alone 50 times a night .

Cocodrillo · 25/10/2008 21:13

Love the snowsuit by the way, MS. Tempted to buy one for DC3, though we have a (pink) snowsuit in storage somewhere. Plus am skint.

TinkerBellesMum · 25/10/2008 21:15

I just asked my sister (ex-team leader and married to a manager at Tesco) and she said the policy even includes the delivery men putting your shopping away for you if you need it!

I've just been to Tesco with Mum and my sister and bought FiFi a gorgeous little outfit with Roo on it. I bought Early Baby size which I've been resisting but at this point it's looking optimistic to want a baby that will fit in "up to 7lb" clothes. Also bought myself a new camera, so hopefully I should be able to start taking bump pictures to put up on FB!

Speaking of FB, is anyone else having problems logging in?

herbgarden · 25/10/2008 21:16

Coco - still up....must go to bed.

Men seem to have selective deafness when it comes to the nocturnal wailings of small children. DH apparently came up to find me snoring like a pig last night so went to the spare room and even though we are in a small house apparently he didn't hear ds this morning ...you really couldn't miss it.

Good luck the rest of you with your nights sleep -I've heard about 3 people today going "ooh how lovely we get a lie in in the morning"! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr

rosieposey · 25/10/2008 21:30

Just checking in ( far too many lovely recipes on here btw! ) Felt absolutely knackered today for obvious reasons. Had a lovely curry last night then fell asleep at at about half ten - woke up at midnight and maganged to stay awake till 3.15 and then out to pick up DP he he ive never seen him quite so drunk (or his friends) So finally got to bed at 4 after making sure he went to sleep on his side ( have a paranoia about people sleeping on their back if they have been drinking ). God he was poorly this morning but went go karting with assorted friends as a continuation of stag night/day. Luckily came back tonight and is a ok but ill have to get an early night as taking middle DD to Exel in London tomorrow to some japanese, manga, cosplaying thingy which shes nuts about.

Really know how MS feels as feel like a social leper myself - dont have any friends here just yet but i know that the girlfriends of DP's friends all went out last night and i just know its because im pregnant that i wasnt asked too - mind you i gather it got a bit messy and far too much drink was had but it would have been nice to go out anyway - no hen night for me though as it seems to be the general consensus that if your pregnant all you want to do is sit at home and watch tv

God its cold here tonight, will be grateful for the extra hour in bed before trekking into London - mind you i was reading HOM's post and have completely forgotten about getting up at silly o clock with babies especially when the clocks go forward [hhmm}

spottyshoes · 26/10/2008 06:49

Go on then what time were you all up? (if you're still in bed then )
DS usually gets up anywhere between 6-7.30 and is very random so you cant predict what it'll be! This morning he decided on 6, therefore 5am! Luckily I fell asleep early last night - Lay on the bed to feed DS at 7.30 and DH apparently came in at 745 to us both fast asleep! Woke up at 10.30 with no baby, clothes on and boob out

Despite my mammoth sleep I have a headache .

Anyone any plans today? Swimming for us in an hour, then a quick play farm trip to see the animals and herby lemon roast chicken for Dinner. Have a good day x

thehouseofmirth · 26/10/2008 07:13

DS kindly slept in until about 7am old time so I wasn't forced out of bed until 6-ish which psychologically feels so much better than anything with a 5 in it!

Off to the allotment to plant strawberries then lunch a Cafe Rouge before listening to several hours of DH swearing and moaning while he puts together DS's new high sleeper bed...

MarkStretch · 26/10/2008 08:26

I am still in bed! Hehehe.

DD slept in til 8.00 which I suppose is now 7.00. I kept her up late last night.
