Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
thehouseofmirth · 13/11/2008 14:19

Keep meaning to ask - is anyone planning on having a private GBS test? When I had DS it was never mentioned at any stage by the hospital (but I'd read about them so had one anyway) but this time round my MW at my booking in appointment actually brought it up and recommended I have one.

onwardandoutward · 13/11/2008 14:49

Don't know about the CS procedure stuff, THOM, but WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MY NEW THREAD TITLES????? craves approval

MarkStretch · 13/11/2008 14:50

"Due Fab Feb 2009: crossed fingers (and legs) we'll get through another thread without welcoming any early arrivals"

GETS MY VOTE!

TinkerBellesMum · 13/11/2008 15:26

catstar, definitely get to a breastfeeding group before the baby is born. I went to an NCT class last night and I'm still breastfeeding my toddler. Find out where the support is and who you can ring from the hospital now, get as much support as you can behind you and you will give yourself a far better chance.

THOM, the one difference for the baby between a CS and a vaginal birth is that the baby gets squeezed during a natural birth which helps clear the lungs out and has other advantages so sometimes they have to help baby a little. There isn't really any reason if the baby breathes straight away on it's own to not put the baby on Mum's chest. There's a new idea called (IIRC) natural CS where they they bring the baby out slower and onto the mother in a similar way to a natural birth. In an elective CS the body doesn't know straight away that the baby has been delivered though so (for example) the cord won't stop pulsating like it would naturally.

I like MS's vote! You lot are determined to keep me going

PinkTulips · 13/11/2008 15:35

THOM, after answering 26 weeks to everyone who asked how far along i was at toddler group last week i was informed by my, also pregnant with her third, friend that 'actually pink, aren't you 27 weeks?'

catstar · 13/11/2008 16:06

Thanks for all the bf advice ladies. I will arm myself before the event rather than waiting until it might be a problem.

Another vote here for the legs crossed title. I have a bit of a lazy eye so will be keeping that crossed for you too, TBM .

Questionkid · 13/11/2008 16:12

I like the bus one, as I was offered a seat on the train this morning and the man in Pret a Manger has taken to asking me for daily updates on how me and the baby are getting on. I'm enjoying looking pregnant despite having such achy hips and thighs. Ouch.

I am, however, feeling paranoid this afternoon as the sick bug that seems to be working its way round London has made its way to my office (a couple of floors below currently) and I really, really don't want to get it. I'm going to try and avoid any physical contact with anyone!

dinkystinky · 13/11/2008 16:58

Questionkid - wash your hands religiously before eating/putting hands anywhere near your mouth and hopefully you'll be ok.

Legs crossed thread title sounds good - and hopefully will keep Fifi in her rightful place for a bit longer.

Am meant to be out with friends tonight but just so want to go home and curl up in bed instead (think fact is all dark and rainy outside has drained me of my will to chat and drink non-alcoholic beverages in a social setting)...

spottyshoes · 13/11/2008 17:01

Ah attachment parenting - gotcha! I'm in 2 minds about the NCT this time as I went to the coffee mornings afterwards lastime without feeling too left out and am a bit tight to pay the £160. Also my friend is pg (who incidently is a MN'er and should be on this thread! - shout out to another Pink) and we are due virtually the same day so we have our own ready made antenatal group! Plus when Mrsy gets up here in a few months....

at them squeezing babies after CS tho! I got skin to skin for about 30 seconds and then they did all Ds's test in our view so he didn't get squeezed. Then I got him straight back for hours of skin to skin.

Re breastfeeding with a toddler I was going to go feed in DS's room as it has the nice big chair in and let him play with toys round us. He already does that now after I've been clearing up and collapse in a heap on it! I think my biggest problem will be the jealousy as I'm only going to weaning DS off it at Xmas!

I was going to ask about the GBS test too THOM. Was thinking about having it with DS but he was breech before the testing period so figured I didn't need it with CS. Think I will have it this time tho.

I like all your thread titles O&O

TinkerBellesMum · 13/11/2008 17:41

I didn't mean they squeeze the baby! Vaginal birth does and the not being squeezed can mean they need help to clear their lungs after birth.

swampster · 13/11/2008 17:50

I came out of my NCT class with one fantastic friend who has kept me sane through all of this - she is worth her weight in gold!

MarkStretch · 13/11/2008 18:10

I hated my NCT group.

It was full of saggy, miserable old women who sneered down their noses at me for being young.

I only went because it gave me a reason to leave the house.

MarkStretch · 13/11/2008 18:12

Oh and I wish someone had squeezed DD after my CS. The next day she got full of fluid and went limp and grey in my arms.

To say I shit my pants was an understatement.

Luckily a lovely midwife came running, grabbed her from me, turned her upside down and whacked her. She coughed it all up and went pink straight away.

I never been so glad that someone smacked my child.

spottyshoes · 13/11/2008 18:31

Sorry TBM, I meant Swampy's "giving the baby a good squishing out of parental view"

DS was very mucussy and chokey too afterwards for a good 2-3days. The first time he did it he was in a cot that they had moved just out of my reach and I was on my own in recovery, cathetered up and couldn't move my legs from the epi. I demanded a bedside attached cot quite quickly after that!

This time round MS we will be the saggy, miserable old women

MarkStretch · 13/11/2008 18:33

Yes I am quite miserable and saggy and

nearly 30....

thehouseofmirth · 13/11/2008 18:56

Sorry O&O they're all great!

TBM just google snaturla caesarian and found this

thehouseofmirth · 13/11/2008 19:13

Oh god, I am so old ( almost 39...) that my fingers don't work properly any more

That should have read: Googled natural caesarean etc

MarkStretch · 13/11/2008 19:18

My snot faced girl is in bed.

I am gagging for chocolate.

Would it be really bad to eat her advent calendar?

I can replace it before Dec 1st. After all, it's not me who wants it, it's the baby....

pluto · 13/11/2008 19:24

THOM - I am with you on the denial thing. I have got so much going on until Xmas that's kind of where my focus is - at least until work colleagues bring me back to reality and tell me how much bigger they think I've got over the last week or so! We haven't got any of the baby stuff out of the loft or back from friends yet and haven't had a serious conversation about names. There's also a big gap between my last MW appt (at 22 weeks) and my next one at 28 weeks, so apart from my growing bulk I feel there's a lot of stuff to keep my mind off next February. I really just want to make sure that everything at work is sorted by the time I stop in mid-Jan, and then I'm really going to focus on the new arrival. I know I'm lucky - no major pg scares to occupy my mind and a busy job which means the days go by very fast. I can't wait for the baby to come though, I'm really excited about finding out the sex and it's going to be lovely to have time to do some serious nesting and organising when mat leave starts. The last trimester is going to fly by I'm sure.

eejaykay · 13/11/2008 19:43

Hello

You all talk too much and i can't keep up, just popping on to have a wave. Hope everyone is reasonably well and happy.

In my thrilling life, I've had a week's antibiotics for a UTI and predictably, have ended up with thrush. Pah. But only a little bit uncomfy, can't get much sympathy mileage out of that one!

Too broke for NCT but I'm determined to go to a couple of BF classes before Fatso arrives, and am starting to lurk on second hand reusable nappy websites, but that's about it for meaningful birth preparation at the moment. I'm end of Feb so it all still seems a really long time away, and I did just volunteer to organise a seminar at work for end of January...I think I might be in denial!

Sorry about the occasional posts, I'll join in properly when i can (and when I have something more interesting than thrush to report )

swampster · 13/11/2008 20:19

THOM, I don't really know about the whole whipping aways wherefores and whys - both of mine have been emergencies and they were only whipped away VERY briefly - I was barely aware they were out - before being handed to me.

MarkStretch, I hope you have eaten that calendar!

I am 40 and I'll still be 40 when this one gets here - but only for a few days. I am hag-ridden but happy.

littlesez · 13/11/2008 20:52

Re NCT, enquired but couldnt afford it, felt like i was really missing out but maybe not? gooing to my local sure start classes, then afterwards they carry on and have bf support group so will go to those.

Having lots of moving about and absolutely loving tit except the indegestion i actually had to leave in the middle of a class at the gym go to my car get the gaviscon and then take it up into the class! so funny but all that jumping about made it worse thought i would be sick!
hope your all healthy and happy xx

littlesez · 13/11/2008 20:54

oh my god! i am not loving tit! i meant it!
hope evryone reads this 2nd post or people will think weirdo!

spottyshoes · 13/11/2008 20:59

PMSL - You and my DS would get on well

spottyshoes · 13/11/2008 21:04

I will be 30 in 14 mnths I'd like to think I'm not too saggy (Dh may say otherwise but will then find a boot up his jacksie) but I am definately miserable

Please say you ate the calendar MS - FGS woman think of the baaaaayyyby - His needs MUST come first!
