Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Tinkerisdead · 27/10/2008 12:29

yep, absolutely nothing now. i know the head wasnt engaged so i thought i'd take it orally first and then this happened.

Midwife is here at 2pm, she was going to do swab for GBS and i dont think i want it but then i also think whilst she was swabbing she could see if a sweep is possible...but i dont want anything going up there to be honest.

its everso stupid because i know she's gonna be seeing everything ive got, but as ive got to know her so so well now i feel a bit weird about dropping my drawers unless a head is coming out and im yelling for help!!!! apparently after the birth she'll "part my labia with gauze on her fingers to check for tears etc, and please dont laugh at my head torch!"

this is the woman that comes for a cuppa tea for two hours every fortnight...i dont think i can look her in the face!!

ruthosaurus · 27/10/2008 12:33

Definitely important to keep the loo pristine if you think that's likely to happen!

LadyBuzz · 27/10/2008 12:34

Lacks thats brilliant news, head engaged and everything. I'm really pleased it went well for you. Sounds like you might actually get the birth you want - Good luck to you I really hope you do.
Drswife lol at your midwife and her head torch!!
I specifically asked for my cathater to be put in after anaesthetic as I had problems with it last time, The consultant said to me that they only put them in before theatre to respect the patients privacy. You are cutting me open and looking at my insides I do not actually care - And anyway last time I'm quite sure I had no pants on and they could see anyway! I do know what you mean though about getting it out when nothing is happening!

Pinkali37 · 27/10/2008 12:43

Dr's Wife I know what you mean about the MW and her seeing your Minnie. I'm the same, i will dread it if I go over and mine has to do a sweep. Did you say your babys head is not engaged? Mine was 2/5 on monday last week. Also have you dropped? I may have a little but i'm all confused because my MW said that not everyone does because you are still meant to measure correctly for the number of weeks you are i.e. the fundus, so how does that work if you drop? Blimey no one told me pregnancy was this complicated?

Right i'm off to get some EPO!

ruthosaurus · 27/10/2008 12:43

When I went to get my bikini line waxed last week I was highly amused by the way they hand you a pair of paper pants and step outside the room modestly to allow you to take your tights etc off. Then they walk back in, whip the towel off and start smearing hot wax stuff all over your bikini area...

I told the nice beautician lady that this was nothing compared to what the doc did to me the previous week so I am going straight to hell for that one.

I have now had 7 bh contractions this morning and they are just getting worse and worse. That poor baby in there must feel like it's in a juicer.

sparkletoes · 27/10/2008 12:51

Lacks your consultant appointment sounds like it was very reassuring, more importantly you sound reassured! Baby's head is engaged so that is excellent news, mine isn't and as it is B2B I get feeling this could go on forever...

Drswife and Pinkali we are all due same day then! In some ways 14th Nov feels a very long way off to me but as it is Nov on Saturday I think it will sink in to me as soon as I turn the page on the kitchen calendar!! Good luck vibes and calming thoughts to you both.

Hugs to everyone in pain and/or has a DH who is a pain. Also hugs to Coolcat and her sister who is a pain. Feeding babies in toilets indeed .

Excited for everyone who is due this week!!

Waves to everyone else

ruthosaurus · 27/10/2008 13:01

Hey Sparkle, you sound v lively and cheery today! Did you get some sleep or something?

Here's hoping baby Sparkle turns round and drops, giving you that lovely pregnant woman "just wet my pants" waddle. I've found that since the baby dropped I have had to wear stuff that accentuates rather than hides my bump while out shopping otherwise people are mean to me cos I am so slow. I had a woman following me down an aisle in Waitrose (of all places) actually tutting, until I turned round fast and nearly side-swiped her with the bump. I may armour-plate this thing and go on a mission...

MummyNic · 27/10/2008 13:03

Hi again. Phew, I deserve a rest now. All bedding changed and bedrooms cleaned, including windows.

I'm worried about the sweep on Thursday - I also feel I know the MWs too well do drop my pants for them. You'd think I wouldn't be bothered having been under the gynae for years and having had 2 operations for endometriosis - still, dignity will be lost over the next week / week and a half anyway so bring-it-on - I find ceilings can be quite interesting really......

ceebee74 · 27/10/2008 13:13

Hi everyone

Daisy sounds like you had a really good appointment this morning and things are looking v positive for you - lets hope baby makes an appearance sooner rather than later for you.

Saurus I had baddish heartburn with DS and he came out with a headful of black hair (it subsequently all fell out about 4 months later and then grew back blonde - me and DH are both very dark ) so maybe there is some truth in it. However, my heartburn has been even worse this time round so I am expecting a boy with hair down to his bottom

Drswife I can't wait to see if your MW is correct - you would get a shock if the baby was 7lb 2 and a girl wouldn't you??

Hi to everyone else!

Took DS for a haircut this morning and he behaved like a (very solemn) angel - and he looks like a little boy again. It was so funny cos most of the time, you can't stop him from smiling and chatting but he sat in the chair with the most serious look on his face all the time she was cutting his hair!

ruthosaurus · 27/10/2008 13:26

Mummynic, I was mortified at the sonographer pulling the front of my pants down a little to do the 12 week scan but now I have to say I am getting a bit blase about the whole thing. I think that this is also partly because I can no longer see what anyone is doing down there due to the hugeness of my bump these days, so what I can't see can't embarrass me. Still, I did get the waxing done so as not to show myself up in front of the nice midwives or obstetricians when I give birth (as if I'll actually care at that point...). DH thought I was being ridiculous until I asked him how many times he'd had to show a doctor his bottom this year.

sparkletoes · 27/10/2008 13:30

Gosh Ruthy don't know how I came across as lively am anything but! DS was up twice last night (think it must have been teething but he had a bit of a temp too) so I felt like absolute s**t this morning! He is off for his last Mon am at nursery today so I at least was able to go back to bed for a bit but still have that groggy/jet lagged feeling.

I LOL at your post about your Iranian neighbour as I had exact same conv with my dad's turkish exchange student yesterday haha! She is absolutely lovely too and adores children so is great with my DS. Unfortunately she goes home at end of this month.

Funny tho, baby still quite high but I have still been getting the constant wet knicks! And mild cramps! Maybe it is just sympathy pain for all of you!

I find leaving my dignity on the door handle on way in and picking it up as I leave (if I remember) is a good way to handle all the looking up/poking around minnies...

Ceebs I have a hair cut planned for the fri before my D/Date and DS will get his trimmed too. I love seeing the transformation once his is done, tis sooo cute! - how are you enjoying mat leave??

ruthosaurus · 27/10/2008 13:35

Speaking of haircuts, I had mine done about a month ago and I have another appointment booked for Wednesday, but I dunno if I can be bothered and I don't think it has grown very much. I am tempted to go just for the outing but it is already quite short and it's £25 for not much done. On the other hand, is it going to look like shit just in time for xmas if I don't go? Decisions, decisions... Advice?

sparkletoes · 27/10/2008 14:03

I am getting mine done before birth as I really don't see me getting it done before Xmas any other way! (Wouldn't normally care too much but am thinking of all the photo opportunities that will arise during this time!). My hair is a mess tho..

Pinkali37 · 27/10/2008 14:39

Mummynic - Me too. Lots of operations for Endometriosis etc.. yet for some reason getting to know someone before they look at your minnie is worse! I would prefer (a bit like going into labour) just to walk in whip 'em off having never seen the person before.

Sparkles - it's a race, you me and Dr's Wife!

sparkletoes · 27/10/2008 14:40

I hate that too Hana but found a really good one who comes to the house and it is soooo much better than trecking into town for me! She is also a lot less expensive and there is no waiting around. Would recommend home hairdressers!

sparkletoes · 27/10/2008 14:43

LOL at the thought of me in a race right now Pinkali!! Think I would normally have the advantage as this is DC2 for me but due to positioning I think I have more of a handicap!

BTW Have you been taking your RLT, what do you think of it?

Pinkali37 · 27/10/2008 14:56

Sparkles Aghhh yes forgot that this was your DC2. So officially and if i was a betting lady I would say you would be top trumps! However, positioning is not good (naughty baby) so it could be Dr's Wife first at the finishing post.

Have been taking the raspberry tablets which seem fine. Was on the raspberry tea so tablets just make it easier to take. Have also just gone out to buy the EPO however am waiting for more confirmation before start sticking them up my Minnie, as i feel it could just be a joke on Pinkali ...

I woke up this morning and had a period like feeling and tightening just under my bump. You know that feeling like your period is about to start. Think tarquin is just playing with me!

Heartmum2Jamie · 27/10/2008 15:03

I'm just back from the midwife, very uneventful apart from the pity glances from the reception staff when I asked for another appt for next week, lol! I basically have until next Monday to go naturally (will be 40+5 by then) or they will consider stepping in with a membrane sweep to try and get things moving. Normally I would be against any kind of intervention, but as I want my homebirth more than anything, I have to be willing to compromise somewhere. The midwife I saw today is part of the community team I haven't seen before and told me that she is on rota/call on Wednesday. Perhaps it is a sign? What were the odds of meeting a midwife I had never met before who just happens to be on homebirth duty on my due date? I think everyone at the surgery has their fingers crossed I don't need my appt next week, lol!

On the more negative side, baby is STILL floating free and I don't feel he will be arriving any time soon. I know things can change quickly, especially given it's my 3rd and he's not likely to engage until I am in labour or my waters go. I am just really grateful that I feel good, no aches or pains ect.

sparkletoes · 27/10/2008 15:09

I would bet on you two going first for sure, well unless this one decides to play ball and shift into OA position (no amount of bouncing on yoga balls seem to be doing the trick tho).

I have just noticed you can take the tablets up to 6 times a day. I am taking them 3 x just now, may have to shift up gear now! The MW told me a few strong contractions could shift baby into correct position so here's hoping.. as DS managed to shift himself INTO an awkward position during labour am thinking it must also be entirely possible for them to shift into correct position!

I have those cramps you describe a lot, think it is everything just getting ready for the starting gun...

sparkletoes · 27/10/2008 15:14

Heartmum I take it you can have a sweep and still get your homebirth? Are you excited?

My MW made an appoint for a sweep for me last time but I didn't need it so hope it will be same for you!! (fingers crossed)

Tinkerisdead · 27/10/2008 15:38

righhhhhtttt pinkali and sparkle the race is on!!! ive been with midwife for two hours. baby is more OP position but was turning round as she felt it. Head 2/5ths engaged...

i opted for no swabs in my minnie as pinkali says, loving that word now better than fanjo. midwife says as she cant be 100% sure that it was my waters going, lets ramp up the natural induction methods. she wants me taking two evening primrose, three rasberry leaf(ive been on one of each). she wants me to try reflexology and acupuncture. if it isnt here by next monday we're doing a sweep and im going to take Caulophyllum.

you guys better up your game, as i mean business. i want to be watching the fireworks from the birth pool i tell ya!!!

Tinkerisdead · 27/10/2008 15:43

oh pinkali sorry, bump has dropped but measures 38, just measured from lower down as fundus starts lower in pelvis now. ive had a few period pains too but nothing major... i dream of having a sweep next week and she says but your 4cms already didnt you realise/

ive told her i'd like the birth of bambi, serene with all the animals coming to see...i think the stork should bring it...dreams away......

sparkletoes · 27/10/2008 15:44

LOL DoctorsWife You REALLY mean business don't you! So is the EPO for swallowing or sticking up the min-min??

I would def recommend reflexology (worked for me last time) and like the idea of acupuncture and homeopathy too.

I am very happy for you to go first tho, thought of 2 kids still scares the life outta me! (yes I know bit late now!)

What about the ole mercy shags???
