The policy here in Sheffield is that if the scan dates the baby to within 3 days of what you think it should be based on your last period/cycle length they leave it. If its more, they change it as the scan is more accurate. With my DD they put her date back 5 days and she was still a week late.

My MS is often worse in the evening- if I don't eat something around 4 or 5pm then I feel really rough.

Anyone else craving milk? Can't face cheese though.

llareggub · 21/10/2008 20:52

pulapula I am really craving milk this evening. I've been through a pint of semi-skimmed much to my son's delight. He loved us drinking our milk together before he went to bed.

febes are you going to carry on breastfeeding? My son is 2 next week and still feeds once or twice a day, depending on his mood. I am hoping to carry on as I've heard it can help to have a skilled toddler around in the early days with a newborn, in case of engorgement. Apart from that, I've no idea how to stop now without making him very cross! I did find it very difficult in the beginning, I'd say for the first 12 weeks or so. I'm hoping it'll be easier this time around.

runningmonkey · 21/10/2008 20:55

just remembered, did someone (spangle?) mention yoga earlier? I do yoga every week and asked my mw if it was ok to carry on and she said I should just carry on doing everything I normally would up until 12 weeks. Apparently after that some of the exercises aren't very suitable esp lying on your back for long periods of time. Personally I can't see that things that are suitable post 14 weeks wouldn't suitable before hand but I'm no expert so maybe it would be worth having a chat with your mw?

My yoga teacher and me have worked out a secret code so she can tell me if there are exercises I shouldn't do - basically she says 'if anyone's feeling under the weather, do this instead...' its working for now. Not sure what I'm going to do once I get past 12 weeks tho - I've paid for classes up to Christmas!!

Jools1 · 21/10/2008 20:59

I would guess that the pregnancy yoga is designed for people with bumps, so if you haven't yet got a bump, you are OK in normal classes - nothing more sinister than that ??

I do a Body Balance class - a mixture of Pilates and Yoga and my instructor is similar - doesn't draw attention to me but does suggest alternatives. She has also given me a copy of the instructor notes so I can see for myself how different moves can be adapted.

Lying on your back restricts blood flow and could cause fainting when you get up I think - hence the restrictions later on. I'm told it is OK for first 12 weeks though - although I have to get up slowly as I do get a little dizzy these days.

Dandilioness at Leilas getting flagged up at airport security!! How odd - I really wouldn't agree. Incidentally I have a friend with a blonde, curly haired, blue eyed, very beautiful Leila (think she's 3 now). I also think it's a lovely name and suits her, and most people would be unaware of the meaning (unless they were obsessive baby-name book readers!) Anyway lots of names have inappropriate meanings - eg Claudia (another fave of mine) = lame. Not good. But wouldn't put me off using it IYSWIM.
Incidentally, my friend came round the other day with a bag containing 4 (!) baby name books for me.......and I already have two of my own. This baby is going to have a jolly well-researched name (or not, as I've already decided pretty much on Annabel if it's a girl). If it's a boy, I'm thinking......................Annabel?? What do you think of that- nice? Or do you think he might get apprehended at airports for having a girls name?

llareggub · 21/10/2008 21:07

I reckon the yoga DVD has put the warning on to protect themselves from legal claims.

frazzledoldbag34 · 21/10/2008 21:14

When my friend was pg our yoga teacher told her she shouldn't do the class for the first 12 weeks as it could be harmful. Unfortunately my friend only told her about the preganacy at 9 weeks so was too late really to take the advice. All turned out fine for my friend and her baby. After that she was just given alternatives to do when appropriate and did the yoga for most of the pg - until she got too big.
I quite fancy doing some yoga again (haven't been for ages).

Does anyone else get an itchy tum - just above the belly button ? I wondered if it is stretching ? Have had it on an off quite a lot over the past few weeks

dandylioness hee hee, . Just been on the Suki thread by the way. Bizarre. Nice response tho.

Jools1 · 21/10/2008 21:46

Well I've had my first look at the baby names bit, and have departed, faintly repulsed by all the judgemental, cynical, blinkered and egotistical comments on so many threads and will probably not take myself there again.

I haven't got any thoughts as to names yet - lots I like, lots I don't but nothing stands out. However, I really can't see the value of asking other people for opinions when you are likely to get ridiculed and if you don't know the people anyway, how can their opionions be valuable ?

I'm still Bf ds. He has his last vaccination on Thursday, so will think about winding it up slowly. I'm down to morning and night now. I'm also a helper with the BfN after really enjoying the meetings they put on near me.

Jennster · 21/10/2008 22:43

And I'm into Boosts. SOOO chocolatey.

Morning all! Just checking in to the new thread.
Congrats to all of you that have had lovely healthy scans. My 12 week scan is next Tuesday and I'm currently trying to supress all types of paranoid thoughts.
Whoever said this is like the 2ww when ttc is absolutely right!

All this talk of chocolate - I've actually gone off chocolate and hardly eaten any in the last 8 weeks!

Jools1 · 22/10/2008 09:06

Dandylyoness - I think I was just lulled into thinking that these forums were more friendly than average because AnteNatal and TTC seem to be so friendly - I hadn't really looked at the other bits as I thought I'd end up living in cyberspace and never leaving my desk !!

As for choc - I went off sweet things big time for a while but the sweet craving is coming back now !! Can I put in a vote for Star Bars ? My absolute complete and utter favourite and has been for years

OP posts:
pulapula · 22/10/2008 09:37

Ooh Jools, not sure I've ever had a star bar. Might have to check them out. If I have choc its usually mint aero, dairy milk, or revels, so might have to widen my options. When I was younger, I used to love double deckers, crunchies and boosts... mmmm chocolate.

FiKelly · 22/10/2008 10:01

morning all when I got back from bristol yesterday i was shattered. long tiring day with added stress of my worrying mum and bored toddler being stuck in car. it was a cancer review for mum and she got all clear again

when got home ms hit with avengence, had grotty eve. still tired this morning but ms a bit a bit better. thankfully have a few parcels to wait in for today maybe even the io dress i won on ebay.

have put cbeebies on for ds and ordered a pair of seraphine jeans.. although have to wait until 3rd nov for them to come back into stock.

so glad i've not been into name threads.. sounds awful!

frazzledoldbag34 · 22/10/2008 10:19

I don't think I've ever had a star bar either? But oh my god, haven't had a boost since I was about 14. May just have to go out and purchase on today........

FiKelly - great news about the all clear for your mum. Been there, done that with both my parents so I totally feel for you.

The name threads aren't that bad although some people can be really opinionated and downright rude. But then, I don't think there's any point asking for opinions if all you want is 100 replies saying 'lovely name, well done!'.
I've posted name threads before and although I've had some horrible replies I've actually found getting a diverse range of reactions really helpful in sorting out my preferences. Sometimes they've pointed out something I haven't thought of or suggested an alternative name so I do quite like it. I've never taken it too seriously though and certainly never got upset by an of the reactions.
(and I did get some pretty savage replies to a thread I started when considering using Topaz! Look it up if you don't believe me!) By the way I still quite like Topaz [hides behind sofa with paper bag on head]

Momino · 22/10/2008 10:24

morning all.
sat here for work with a half a canteloupe melon. very refreshing and healthy - unlike me, really. i must be pregnant.

fikelly, hope my MS goes away by wk 14, not so long now. feel ok this morning but it always gets worse by eve.

reading your views on topshop jeans, I'm defn going to get a pair this weekend.

good to hear about the scans and hearbeats.

back to work now. hurrah.

Momino · 22/10/2008 10:26

Hi there, it took me awhile to work out yesterday why no-one was posting on the old thread!!

I'm busy getting myself all worked up. I'm due to start a new job in a couple of weeks and have just been told that I need a chest xray etc (due to my travels)so I've just had to come clean and tell them I'm pregnant! I was planning on telling them the 1st week of work which would have been after my 12 week scan. So not ideal, now I've convinced myself that my boss to be is going to hate me before I've started!! I'm currently waiting for the occupational health dept to phone me back. On top of that I've also got a sore throat, so think I'm going to come down with a cold soon. Anyhow pity party is over now!
