I think I woprk better from home! I know that its a privilage.. they wont let me do it often enough though..

MsG · 22/10/2008 17:08

I work from home, too. Definite advantages, but I miss the people a lot! x

frazzledoldbag34 · 22/10/2008 17:27

I work from home and miss people too. That's why it's nice to catch up with you lot! Although I am spending rather a lot of time on here lately - will have to ration it.

CoteDAzur · 22/10/2008 17:46

re nasal bone & Down's Syndrome

More than half of fetuses with DS have nasal bones.

Absence of nasal bone shows there is something wrong, but its presence doesn't mean much.

CoteDAzur · 22/10/2008 18:01

Dandy

Sorry if I sounded bossy on that thread. The particular mix of ignorance and arrogance displayed by one particular person there boiled my blood for a bit. I stepped away when anger subsided.

Yes, Laila/Layla/Leila is an Arab/Muslim name. If you are fine with that, please use it. My point was that OP there should know that.

I (unfortunately) have a Muslim name, albeit spelled/pronounced slightly differently, in the Turkish way. You would not believe the grief I get repeatedly at major airports, especially on US-bound flights. People with Muslim names being profiled on airports (not to mention job applications, school applications, etc) is not a fantasy, it is reality.

Yes, there is a bit of a Laila fad in the UK right now. But when it passes, these little blond English girls will be left with a Muslim name. Again, if you are fine with that, name your girl Laila. It is a pretty name

FiKelly · 22/10/2008 18:42

Not going to be on very much tonight... still feeling really nauseous. Just got DS down to sleep... so hubby making me a cuppa. Then going for a bath and some catching up on pre-recorded tv in bed.

SesHasapinkline · 22/10/2008 18:44

Evening all

Names are funny things.... I was talking to a work colleague about another work colleague who had recently had a little boy. She's called him Jasper and I'm afraid to say I kind of screwed my face up at the name. It is always the case though that different people will have different views on different names - otherwise we'd literally end up with the top 5 names and nothing else!
Tbh, I'm kind of grateful that I don't think many others would go for our names as then our DC will always be individual and no one will have preconceived ideas about them because of their name!

Anyway, on another note, I'm feeling really crap this afternoon / evening. Can't quite put my finger on it - maybe a little bit sicky and light headed.

Am of all you people able to work from home. However I have a week off next week!! Yay!!

Reggiee · 22/10/2008 19:30

Found you, although thinking by the time I'd read all the post it would be full again .
Nothing much to report here. Am sat with my top two trouser buttons undone and thinking how I got away with wearing my normal clothes until 24 weeks last time.
All this talk about chocolate is making me hungry....my appetite has definite improved.

Great to hear how everyone is getting on at their 12 week scans. I cancelled my NHS one by phone as I had the nuchal scan done privately, but today I got a letter from the NHS hospital saying they should have told me on the phone I still needed to come in to see the consultant. Not sure why - didn't last time. So rebooked for next week, but not sure what's going to happen. I know there isn't a scan.

SpangleMaker · 22/10/2008 19:38

Yippee - delivery from jojo maman bebe arrived today. I am now ridiculously excited by the fact I'm wearing maternity clothes I'm not sure the under-the-bump straight leg jeans are going to last me long into the pregnancy but right now I prefer them to wearing my non-maternity baggy pair (everything else being too tight ) which I think make me look frumpy. I love the way the wrap-around tops look but they seem a bit faffy so I'll also need to get some 'easy' tops for when I can't be bothered... I'm so rubbish at buying practical things.

Names wise, I don't think many people would have a problem with Penelope (not that I care if they do) but we will get some views on the fact we'd be using it with a surname beginning with 'P' (no, it's not Pitstop!!!) We have decided not to tell anyone our choices beforehand to avoid opinions - they're much more likely to keep their thoughts to themselves when the baby is here.

runningmonkey & others thanks for the advice about the yoga. I think the DVD people are just watching their backs, though it's not the first time I've heard advice to not do yoga in the first trimester. I have a book with yoga for fertility practices (so safe for v early pregnancy) and that just says to avoid abdominal massage and to keep to mild twisting poses. I've been avoiding shoulder stand, not for any particular reason other than it seems weird to be turning everything upside down.

SpangleMaker · 22/10/2008 19:59

oh yes cravings wise, all I've been bothered about lately is fruit juice. I've been drinking gallons of grapefruit juice mixed with sparkling water which seems to've helped with the constipation. Today I stopped off at a brilliant juice & smoothie stall near New St station & had apple, pear, grape & lime juice with ginger - mmmm!

frazzledoldbag34 · 22/10/2008 20:02

Have been looking for maternity clothes today too. My local Zara and 2 H&M's have all stopped stocking maternity and M&S here never stocked it in the first place. Looked at the Red Herring or whatever it's called in Debenhams but was not very impressed so went into Dorrothy Perkins as a last resort and it wasn't bad - bought a pair of skinny black maternity jeans for £20. They are quite big though, but have an adjustable bit of elastic with buttons so can invisibly pull them in.

By the way, got a bit of a shock in Debenhams. Was buying moisturiser and the makeup lady looked at my stomach and said 'How long have you got left to go?' in a sort of sympathetic voice as though I was about to pop. .
Just to clarify what I look like I was wearing Karen Millen jeans (size 10), blue and white stripe long top and blue long cardi over the top with high heeled boots. I thought I looked ok - so a bit pg looking with a visible bump above the jeans waistband, perhaps emphasised by the horizontal stripes, but no way do I look THAT pregnant. I was so shocked I just stared at her and said 'UM, about 6 months'. Then she looked shocked and muttered something about my bump being very neat!!!!!!!!!!!
I grabbed my moisturiser and legged it before I started to cry.

I've also had a host of comments including 'are you going to keep going until you get a boy?' and about six people have said 'you'll be desperate for a boy then?'
NO NO NO NO I don't care - even though I've got 2 girls and would actually quite LIKE another GIRL. Gah. People can be so stupid. Like my friend who smugly said to me 'I don't need to have another baby, I've got the full set'. (She's got a girl and a boy).

Rant over, thank you!

Momino · 22/10/2008 20:03

didn't know there are so many working from home - good to have company! all of you on this thread give me a good break from work even if I can't meet you all in person at the coffee machine.

spangle, your jojo delivery sounds fun and am a little jealous! would you recommend their jeans? am going to look at topshop this weekend. for last pregnancy, dh bought me a pair of topshop ones which were too short in length so i need to go try some on and looking forward to it!

pulapula · 22/10/2008 20:04

reggiee, I know here that at the NHS 12 week scan we get weighed, and have blood and urine tests done. Therefore that might also be why they want you to go to the antenatal clinic?

Just spent a day off work with DH- we spent 5 hours at a shopping centre buying clothes and stuff. Got one maternity top and some normal jumpers which should hopefully do me for a few months. In maternity jeans today (9 weeks lol) which are much more comfy. Felt really tired and queasy by the end of it!

Momino · 22/10/2008 20:08

frazzled, i can't believe she said that. all i can think of is that you're probably small so that anything sticking out will be noticeable.

i do find some people's comments a bit annoying like the boy thing. yes, secretly I'd love a boy but i want all to know that a 3rd girl would be so welcome and loved. the 1st thing one of my friends said 'i bet you're hoping for a boy...' to which i quickly replied, i'd love another girl (three girls would be sweet wouldn't they?).

can anyone tell my why my posts sometimes duplicate? doesn't seem to happen to anyone else [annoyed]

frazzledoldbag34 · 22/10/2008 20:12

momino - ooh do you have two girls too?? Sorry hadn't picked up on that! (duh)
I'd actually love another girl and if one were able to request the sex at conception (obviously not possible but IF it were) my DH and I would both have plumped for another girl. Possibly laziness, but we just love our girls and I think three little girls running around together would be heaven.
Having said that, a little man will be made more than welcome should he choose to come and join us!
DD1 is DESPERATE for a brother. What would your girls like?

frazzledoldbag34 · 22/10/2008 20:15

Mine duplicate sometimes - suspect my giant stomach must touch the mouse-pad thingy by accident (as it is so ginormous ). Actually don't know why, sometimes they just do.

llareggub · 22/10/2008 20:22

Aw, just had a bath with DS aged 2. He kept pointing at my tummy and saying "baby out" and "sister" which was very sweet. Not sure he'll feel the same way come May, I'm sure he'd prefer a tractor really.

FiKelly · 22/10/2008 20:26

both grandparents are desperate for a girl.. but i really don't mind at all. our ds is a delight and another boy would save having to buy different clothes. will be equally happy with a girl at least we still have favourite names for girls not used last time!

pulapula · 22/10/2008 20:40

I have a DD and a DS and got so many "oh you don't need any more children as you've got one of each"!

I have an older sister and younger brother. My parents made it very obvious (and still do) that they wanted a son and see the son's role in the family as very important (carrying on family name etc). I always felt that he got given more freedom (particularly as a teenager) because of his gender and I think that's why I really wanted a DD so that I could give her the opportunities I didn't have (if she wants them of course!). I didn't tell my mum we were expecting a boy last time, but got a lot of "oh, it would be really nice if it was a boy/I'm sure you'd like a boy" etc etc. Grrrrr.

Febes · 22/10/2008 20:49

I have a girl and I don't care if I have a girl or a boy this time. Another girl would be lovely and a boy would make DH happy but he also doesn't mind. We aren't going to find out it will be just a lovely surprise.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 22/10/2008 20:50

Hi all I've got 2 dd's aswell and both dh and I would love another little girl ( I was 1 of 3 girls) however if we get a little ds we would love him too ( he'll just be more costly )

Finally given in to the fact that my hyperemersis has returned with a vengance and had an emergency appointment with he doc's this morning...... I could not function at all, tried to phone my mum yesterday to come and feed the girls but she wasn't in and I nearly broke down, anyway went to see doc and took old prescription for (effective) anti-emetics with me, and happily he prescribed think he was more worried about getting me in and out without any events!!! although he did say pulse and bp were up which wasn't really surprising as I'd not eaten properly for about 48 hours (sorry if tmi!!)

Took my first tablet this morning and about 20minutes later began tofeel more human not a complete recovery but back to the land of the living!!! Although felt it wearing off this evening so just had another one..

Right off to lie opn sofa and vegetate, congrats to all ths who've had scans and good luck for those waiting!

runningmonkey · 22/10/2008 21:23

Hiya,
Wow, that took some catching up. Have just got in from an open evening at work and am exhaustedly eating crisps and drinking ginger beer. Yum

I wish you hadn't mentioned starbars tho, I love them but have been told to avoid peanuts because of severe allergies in the family and and missing my weekly starbar fix! oh and peanut butter on toast

Ses week off next week? are you a teacher by any chance?

re girls/boys. My mum and I both dreamt that we had a girl last week so mum is convinced that's what I'm having but I'm not so sure. Whenever I've thought about kids I've always thought about boys - probably because I've got two little brothers who I remember as babies so that's what I know. I don't really care tho as long as its a baby

frazzledoldbag34 · 22/10/2008 21:24

oh doris poor you. Good that you seem to have some medication that is working for you. [hugs]
It will be interesting to do our own bit of research on here and see whether those of us with 2 of the same sex do indeed end up with another the same - the chance of this is apparently 75-80% I've heard. Interesting..............
Found out that my MIL has been telling people that DH was gutted that DD2 wasn't a boy!!!!! She's got it wrong - he would have been gutted if she HAD been! God knows what she's saying about this one. (She's been wanting a boy from us since DD1 - she was convinced she was a boy too!)
I think what she actually meant was that SHE was gutted that DD2 was a girl!
Oh god, families are so weird.
I am such a disappointment!
