Hi gals, sorry I've been MIA. We've all been really ill but we're doing much better.

I just read through the thread quickly and saw a few questions. Hope I can help:

  • Underwire wires can put pressure on the milk producing glands so it's best to avoid them during pregnancy. I find that wearing M&S Secret Support vests is more comfortable than a bra right now. I sleep in one too and it helps the discomfort by at least holding my boobs in one place so I don't get that painful movement when I roll over.

  • The problem with spinach is the vitamin A. Too much vitamin A can cause problems in pregnancy but I can't remember exactly what it does. That's why we're supposed to avoid pate, liver and other types of offal too. I had a great French OB/GYN when I was pregnant with DS and she always said a little bit wouldn't hurt me if I really wanted it.

Hellkat, the early scan is the 'fill-your-bladder' kind of scan. That's like torture for a pregnant woman! I can barely hold an ounce of wee right now without running to the loo.

Feeling OK here. I've had a very stuffed up nose which has actually controlled some of the morning sickness I think. I usually start retching if I smell something that makes me sick but I can't smell anything right now!

I'm in Chislehurst, Kent but we're hoping to move into Blackheath this summer. Going to be a bit crazy changing docs, midwives, hospitals, etc halfway through the pregnancy but we ended up doing the same thing with DS and I survived. Anyone know a good GP in Blackheath?

Hope you're all doing well. I plan to be around more once I get over this virus. Take care!

Sounds fab, Do you think you could set up some video cameras to watch the dads for the weekend - it would be hilarious! I bet they come over all macho and say it was easy when you get back lol

tex111 · 16/03/2005 10:17

Oh yea, forgot to say we're not telling either but my sister is coming over from Texas at the beginning of April and it's going to be so hard to keep it a secret! I'm going to Texas in May and I'd really like to be able to tell my parents in person. This will be our last baby so this is my last chance to tell them face to face. Also by then we'll have had the nuchal scan and had the all-clear so I can give them the happy news and reassure them that it's all going well. After my two miscarriages last year I know they're going to worry.

hi rodeo1 hadfield is in the high peak its a little village outside of glossop(if that helps) we have only lived here for 10 months i used to live in the north east before that so i have no idea about what maternity care they offer here even though im a midwife

BEKsmum · 16/03/2005 10:20

Hope you're feeling better soon tex,

I'm in Bromley and we're due the same day! Good luck with the move, does that mean you'll be going to Lewisham hospital instead of Farnborough then?

twinkle1 · 16/03/2005 10:20

rodeo1 i think i will have a choice of two hospitals tameside od steppinghill i think i will go for a look around them both before i pick one!!

rodeo1 · 16/03/2005 10:27

I know!! My partner keeps saying "we'll be fine, we'll have a lovely time!" and I keep saying "oh good, I hope you do" attempting a non-sarcastic tone!

I think too much Vit A can cause birth defects, although I think it's rare. I've been told just to avoid liver and liver products, and any supplements with Vit A in, but I don't think preg vits contain any x x

Is anyone else suffering from object blindness, the one where you go "I can't find it anywhere!!" only for someone else, usually smug husband/partner, to go "It's there! Right in front of your eyes!" Oh yeah, so it is

OP posts:
twinkle1 · 16/03/2005 10:57

when are you going to tell them about the pregnancy?????

rodeo1 · 16/03/2005 11:01

Well I did say the other night "would you like another baby brother or sister?" Joe said he wanted 'a stinky baby brother', Bella said 'no, it will keep me awake and poo everywhere'. At which point I dropped the subject, not to bring it up again for a while!!

HellKat · 16/03/2005 11:20

Welcome back Tex! Glad you're feeling better.
I had a feeling that scan would be he one where i scowl at the sonographer thinking " Push down any harder on my bladder dammit and i'll wet myself". He he. I hate those!!!!!!
When's your one again?
Still no sickness here just feeling podgy again! (just round middle thoguh, feel like a weeble)

cp3 · 16/03/2005 12:11

Just got back from mothercare with my support bra in tow. All the maternity clothes look huge so i didnt indulge. My eyes are so heavy i feel like im being drained of all energy and life.

Diddle · 16/03/2005 12:22

I know how you feel cp3, my eyes keep closing too. i'm a childminder and luckily in about 30 minutes two of the 3 kids i have here at the moment will go down for their nap. Then i can put a video on for the older one and we can have a relaxing afternoon.
Can't believe i feel so exhausted and its only wednesday.

cp3 · 16/03/2005 12:29

I work 32 hrs a week from home plus two toddlers and a teenager. I so wish i could nap in the afternoon. I tried to watch bridget Jones at the weekend with the little ones and i still had to get up from the sofa about 50 times. I am sleeping well at night though and my dp gets up in the morning to give the kids brekkie so i am very lucky in that sense.

Looking after someonelses children as well as my own and beingpregnant would kill me off, im sure

tex111 · 16/03/2005 13:02

BEKsmum, yes I'll be registered at Farnborough. I had the choice between there and Sidcup but I think Farnborough is the nicer of the two. I hope I can have the baby there but it depends on when we move. If it's something crazy like October I hope I can stay with Farnborough.

I'm so glad the hear I'm not the only one with a bump already! I've been really suprised but they do say you're usually bigger faster when it's a second or later pregnancy.
