Here is our new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Questionkid · 13/10/2008 17:13

Ok MS, done, they're yours. So this means you'll have another white one, another black one, and a grey one too. Maybe send me a message on Facebook with your address so you don't have to broadcast it to the whole of MN?

I've been getting the same kind of kicks and punches as you, either low or high, not much in between. So I always think the high ones are punches too. Mine seems to go mad whenever I get in a car or on the train - I thought they were meant to go to sleep then!! I think he likes the movement and decides to tell me so with some appreciative dance moves.

Questionkid · 13/10/2008 17:16

Just seen your message and your thread lardybump - I'm afraid I have no words of advice except to advise you to phone citizens advice? Sorry you're having a rubbish time.

lardybump · 13/10/2008 17:25

I am going to log off now and do some investigations but will be back tomorrow to catch up, with you all.

herbgarden · 13/10/2008 18:12

Sorry Lardy that you're having a rought time and hope someone has been able to help you (I'm the wrong sort of lawyer to advise unfortunately)....

mumoverseas · 13/10/2008 18:22

good old flowerybeanbag has the answers lardy on the employment thread

MarkStretch · 13/10/2008 19:50

QuestionKid- have fb'd you!

chilledmama · 13/10/2008 20:36

Hey Cocodrillo - welcome to the strappy thingy...PM your address to me and I'll post it to you. It was passed to me for free so I'd be happy if you put a penny in the next charity box you pass

Cocodrillo · 13/10/2008 20:47

thanks so much chilledmama. I've just tried to CAT you but I'm not allowed, it says your settings aren't set up to do it. Are you able to CAT me your e-mail address? Or maybe you are on the facebook thingy that I've not got round to joining yet?

chilledmama · 13/10/2008 20:51

Oops thats because I'm tight and refuse to pay the £5. My email address is [email protected]

chilledmama · 13/10/2008 20:57

Coco-How are you sleeping?? I had SPD last time so tried several things but found what actually helped was to put a memory foam topper on my bed. It was the first good nights sleep I'd had in weeks...nothing else worked for me!

Cocodrillo · 13/10/2008 22:17

so you could lie flat with the topper? I'd never thought of that idea.

I'm lying semi-reclined. I've just ordered one of these. In the meantime I've found putting a spare duvet on top of the sheet helps avoid back pain.

Until a week or so ago I was sleeping on my left side in recovery position with memory foam pillow between knees. But then my pelvic joint starting totally seizing up and clicking out of place etc., and just became so all round painful that I've given up.

Roll on February...

thehouseofmirth · 13/10/2008 22:43

Sorry to hear you're all so uncomfortable. Can anyone remember when it is you're supposed to stop sleeping on your back? And does it count if you're almost on your back but lyng with your arm under your bum so you're ever so slightly tilted to the side?

mslucy · 13/10/2008 23:29

I'm dreading the time when I can't sleep on my back - I'm totally a back sleeper.

Been having insane amounts of movement this evening - feels like he's break dancing in there

Have joy of GTT tomorrow so nil by mouth until 10:35 when I get the yummy scrummy sugar water to drink (bleurgh).

I really think it's all a bit pointless but there's a family history of diabetes and I had a very big baby so I have to play the game.

TinkerBellesMum · 14/10/2008 00:08

THOM, it's not that you're not supposed to sleep on your back as such. Ignore anything that says where you should sleep, because it leaves you on your left side, not sleeping all night in case you move. This is the reasons and my response:

Don't lie on your front because the baby is there - and you will feel like you're lying on a ball and move
Don't lie on your back because the baby will put pressure on the vena cava and risk cutting the blood supply off to your legs - your legs will get pins and needles long before then waking you up and you will move.
Don't lie on your right side because you will get heartburn - and feel uncomfortable so you will move.

Not everyone can't sleep on their front/back/left. Sleep how you are comfortable and move if you're not.

idontbelieveit I posted about my results and someone explained it (kicking myself because it's obvious) apparently the notch is the blood flowing back a little bit which stops the baby getting all the oxygenated blood. It could explain why she's not putting on enough weight.

Questionkid your cervix is the top of your vagina, it's what holds the baby in your uterus. It sounds like that is what you're feeling. High/ low doesn't really tell you much about what they're doing because baby could be anywhere. For the second scan in a row my baby has moved all over the place, started breech today and moved to lying down.

chilledmama it's your settings, you can still receive CAT if you aren't subscribed.

Cocodrillo I feel for you. I have to sleep with two spare quilts on my bed so that I can pad myself up just right. I'm finding recovery position with the single rolled up between my legs best.

mumoverseas · 14/10/2008 07:53

anyone else having embarassing problems when they sneeze? saw midwife yesterday and she said that little bean is lying really low down which apparently explains this! doesn't help though feeling like an incontinent old person!

idontbelieveit · 14/10/2008 08:39

lardy - so sorry you're having a rough time. Now is not a good time for dealing with stress, it's so unfair when you're pregnant.

TBM - from what i've read (and i could be wrong!) the uterine arteries usually have high resistance as you don't need a massive flow of blood to the uterus when you're not pregnant, this resistance gradually decreases during pregnancy so the blood flow increases, in my case it's more of an added marker for slow growth than a cause for concern in itself.

It's annoying to have one more thing to worry about isn't it!

Anyway going to put my latest scan pic on facebook, she's sucking her thumb!

idontbelieveit · 14/10/2008 08:54

TBM - had a look here and in the intro it mentions a normal nonpregnant uterine notch disappearing by week 24 of pregnancy, i was 23 weeks at last scan. How many weeks were you? So now i'm hoping that it will be gone by my next scan....[IDBI should stop looking things upon the internet emoticon!]

Calico1 · 14/10/2008 09:14

Hi - I haven't managed to log on for a few days but thanks all for the info about bad backs and c sections.

I think the issue is that I won't be able to have an epidural, but I am booked in to see an anaesthetist at 34 weeks to discuss further. I had an epidural last time and it was excruciatingly painful (worse than labour) when she was putting it in and it provided absolutely no pain relief! Something went wrong somewhere but not sure what. Anyway I managed to slip a disc in my lower back as a result of the labour and ended up in surgery a few days after DS was born....not much fun. I have now got cauda equina syndrome which is basically nerve damage caused by the ruptured disc, which fortunately is mild but means that I have numbness in one leg and across my bum. I am nervous about another labour putting more pressure on the sacral nerves and causing more damage but the consultant reckons that a CS could be even more of a problem. Wish there was another option!

TBM sorry to hear about your worrying scan.
Lardy - sorry too that you're having a rough time.

winemakesmummyclever · 14/10/2008 09:48

Hi all,

Have had a busy weekend and mad day at uni yesterday. Took ds to MOSI (he's train mad at the mo) on Saturday, followed by lovely teppanyaki at Sapporo. Ds made the poor chef flip almost a dozen eggs into his hat. The went to see the dinosaurs at the Manchester Museum on Sunday morning - am all "museumed" out now.

Calico good to see that you have got an appt with the anaesthetist. He will be able to tailor your care to you specific needs and will be very honest about what your options are. Good luck.

Have got my 21w week scan tomorrow morning. Will hopefully know the flavour by this time tomorrow . Cannot wait. Also need reassurance that things are ok as am a paranoid old bint .

My back is playing up (blimey I'm a moaning old trout today) and I am going to ask for a physio referral tomorrow. My SIJ stretches are just not cutting the mustard anymore and I am a sad, limping eejit who makes little involuntary screeches at the slightest movement . The pains have spread round to the front of the pelvis/groin so it looks at though SPD has set in good and proper. Bugger!

Questionkid · 14/10/2008 11:11

Thanks for the explanation TBM, definitely sounds like my boy is having a lot of fun stamping on my cervix then as I feel a lot going on down there.

I'm 24 weeks today, feels like a bit of a milestone.

mumoverseas · 14/10/2008 11:49

Calico, try not to worry too much about your back. I have damaged nerves and get quite a lot of sciatic pain (numbness in leg and bum) too. I was worried sick 2 years ago when I had my DD and terrified of having a spinal block in case it didn't work but it did and was fine. There are pros and cons of normal delivery or section and to be honest, it really depends on the type of injury you have. When I was pregnant last time no one knew what to do and I had to get reports from various specialists regarding my spinal surgery and also the fact that I had a dvt before (after surgery) and therefore I am more at risk when pregnant again. I had an appointment to see the anaesthetist a few weeks before my section (had to deliver at 37 weeks to take pressure off my lower back) and they decided to try the spinal block and if that didn't work, they'd go to the GA. Thankfully it worked and I'm hopeful it will work again this time. I do sympathise with you though as I know how horrible it is not knowing what is going to happen.

rosieposey · 14/10/2008 11:50

Hello all - blimey youve all been busy!

Firstly sorry to hear about the dodgy doppler (uterine artery) results IDBI and TBM - fingers crossed for nice long pregnancies and big babies (well not too big!)I have some doppler scans coming up too - have always had them in all pregnancies (i think because of the diabetes) and they were always fine so feeling for you both. Diabetes is still rampantly out of control here though cant get my blood sugar levels down and they keep putting insulin dose up and up - need it sorted v soon though otherwise its going to start affecting placental function and my boys size. Got baby cardiac scan in a couple of weeks so will properly breathe a huge sigh of relief once i know all is well in that dept.

Have spent the last week chasing my tail doing last minute stuff for the wedding (4 weeks this Saturday) Oh btw congratulations Questionkid! and it sort of serves me right for leaving loads of it till the last moment as have had no time at all. Went to Bristol on Saturday to the newly opened mall there (Cabot Circus) and ordered the most amazing wedding cake from Patisserie Valerie yay! Waaaayyy too expensive for profriteroles but too gorgeous to look at and eat (is for 100 people but i reckon 3 profriteroles per person is pushing it you know - kind of looks like a huge white and dark chocolate tower!

Im really hoping as i have 4 and a half weeks to go that my bump doesnt suddenly get mahoosive as dress fits perfectly now and there isnt a lot of room for manevure - have back up dress but its a bit well erm maternity iyswim and i want to look glam dammit!

Lo is still squidgying around in there no real proper kicks but lots of movement and pushing around. Am 21 and a half weeks so hoping that soon family will be able to feel through my chub and actually be able to feel him kicking as its getting a bit tiresome describing it and i want someone else to actually feel the movements as well as me.

Lardy, am really sorry to hear you are going through such a tough time at the moment - it really is as if all the shite comes at once I hope you and DP can work on things and that the work related stuff sorts itself out as this is supposed to be your happy time, Big virtual hugs to you.

mrsy · 14/10/2008 12:03

mumoverseas - [hands up emoticon] when I sneeze, when I'm sick, when I cry... it's a party in my pants! plus when I sneeze it really tightens my uterus - eek!

I have my scan today, so we will have flavour confirmed, and all my fears put to rest...

Will be on to catch up later...

scubagroover · 14/10/2008 12:12
