Jennster, can't believe you had so much energy at that time in the morning!

llareggub · 18/10/2008 15:06

I guess I could live with Ptolemy if shortened to Tom, but I'm with you guys on the bullying potential!

spanglemaker we also have George on our list. We were going to use it for DS but used another name instead, one which has already been mentioned further down this thread.

I'm feeling really tired today and I'm wondering if I ought to take an iron supplement.

Jennster · 18/10/2008 15:10

OMG Dh has wanted to put Atticus or Scout into the dc names since the start. He nearly got Dudek as a middle name for dd when Liverpool won the European cup.

Momino · 18/10/2008 15:15

Jennster, it's just unfortunate that Demi and Bruce willis used the name Scout for their daughter.

we haven't discounted Harper yet, though....

I'm sure we're having another girl. We already have two - aren't the odds for a 3rd going to be really high for us? I've heard 80% for the same if nos. 1 and 2 are the same sex.

SpangleMaker · 18/10/2008 15:25

Not sure about that Momino. I don't know many people with more than 2, only my cousin and she does have 3 girls.

Does anyone else have a strong feeling they are having a boy or a girl? Can't say I do, if anything maybe a boy, but don't feel particularly strongly about it.

OP posts:
Febes · 18/10/2008 15:32

I think I'm having a boy this time and last time I thought I was having a girl and I was right so you never know. I'll be checking out the heart rate at the scan next monday for sure.

runningmonkey · 18/10/2008 18:06

Hi All,
Lots to catch up on since last here! Funnily enough we've just been sitting in a pub having lunch and talking about names. When I got married I took my DH's surname on the basis that I could give any dc's we might have welsh first names. think we've picked a girl but we have a dilemma for a boy's name as our favourite has just been used by one of my oldest friends for her newborn son... was thinking I could ask her if she minded us having it too (we live on different sides of the country now so it wouldn't like the kids would be growing up together). What do you think?

Momino · 18/10/2008 18:50

Febes or anyone: what's the heartrate thing for determining sex? I'd heard about it before but can't remember. Thanks.

llareggub · 18/10/2008 19:01

That thing about the heart-rate is very funny. My midwife insisted I was having a girl last time around. I already knew I was having a boy from the 20 week scan so I told her I was having a boy. She told me I was wrong, and that she could always tell from the heart-rate.

She kept talking over me every time I tried to tell her that I'd seen the evidence for myself and left her to her to it as I'm sure she didn't really care.

DS is definitely a boy, heart-rate or not!

Reggiee · 18/10/2008 19:12

Hi all.
Have 'come out' with my usual MN name, as am now having fun telling people in rl (am Slippersandpipe btw).

For those suffering ms, the end is hopefully in sight. Mine has definitely got much better in the last week - really bad from 4.5 - 11.5 weeks - but haven't been sick now for a few days, and almost feel human again. In fact am sat here with a huge bar of chocolate - I must be better .

Momino I heard if heartrate is over 140 it's a girl, and under for a boy. This one had a 160 bpm heartrate so maybe another girl for me.

Am impressed that a lot of you have a name shortlist. It's such a fun thing to do but we haven't thought about it yet.
Runningmonkey I would go with the name that your friend has got, but have a little word with her first. Noone has the right to an excludive name.

Saturday night tv is looking up. I enjoy a bit of trash entertainment in the form of Harry Hill and X Factor.

pulapula · 18/10/2008 19:13

Yes I don't trust the heart-rate/beat thing. My MW was sure DD was a boy (ploddy heartbeat) nor a girl (skippy heartbeat) but she was obviously wrong!

Febes · 18/10/2008 19:28

Someone else on here told us a few pages ago if above 140 then girl under boy. Not sure if thats completely accurate but along those lines.

SesHasapinkline · 18/10/2008 19:42

Aaaggh! I've cooked a lovely curry for DH and me for tea and now I'm sat with it really wanting to eat it but I just can't. Not nausea as such, more that feeling someone once described to me as your stomach meeting the back of your throat. Yuk!

In terms of knowing the sex, I have no idea! Not sure whether to find out or not. I think there's pros and cons. Maybe if it's clear we will. Don't think I could go with it if they were less than 80% sure.

FiKelly · 18/10/2008 19:46

Had a compulsion to make thick American pancakes... so I made everyone eat them for tea with piles of fresh pineapple, strawberries, oranges and lashings of maple syrup never seen DS eat so many in one sitting!

Had a lovely day today and I even got a lie in till 9.30am. When DS woke up at 6.30am hubby was already awake... so he got up, sorted him out & did breakfast. They played trains until I came through. My first proper lie in since DS was born!

Bit queezy again today but bearable...

Febes · 18/10/2008 20:07

I got a bit of a lie in to and tomorrow. You gotta love the asian grand prix's they are on early morning so DH gets up to watch and takes DD with him. Bliss.

My friend has lent me her hand held Doppler (I know, I know - that way madness lies!) but since am ten weeks and feeling almost human again (most of the time) I thought I'd have a little listen this morning and see if I could find anyone in there.
Found a definite little heartbeat very low down just at my pubic bone which was around 146 bpm. (Took a few minutes of searching, finding various body noises and my heartbeat first!). DD1 came in just as I found it and was fascinated (age 7 - she is very excited and I think it made it all seem a bit more real to her). It did sound more like a 'train' - I remember both my girls sounding more like galloping horse hooves - does this mean it's a boy then? But then it's heart beat is over 140 so does that mean girl? Or does this all just mean it's a baby and it's all old wives tales?
Time will tell.
Anyway lovely to hear it. Then I had a bit of brown spotting this afternoon, but that has stopped now. No cramps thank goodness. Hopefully the little train is still there.........as I said, this way madness lies! My friend said she used to listen in every night with it and drove her DH mad - it used to freak him out and he would leave the room. Might have to have a quick listen in before bed tho. Night x

It's just a bit of fun really isn't it? I don't honestly see how a heart rate can be anything to do with the sex? And anyway babies heart rates vary depending on how active they are at the time you listen in eg. if sleeping, heart rate is slower than if leaping about!
It's up there with the carrying high = boy, low=girl (or is it the other way round????!!!)
People were convinced both my babies were boys because of the way I was carrying them - WRONG! Hee hee.

Don't you just love Crunchy Nut Cornflakes by the way? Am developing an addiction to them. With very cold milk. Yum.

Certainly nothing to go out and buy blue or pnk over but would be interesting to see if it turned out to be correct we shuld do a poll.

FiKelly · 18/10/2008 23:14

I wish i could remember what the heartbeat was of ds.. it would've been interesting to see if it was right. i don't know what the heartbeat is of this lo yet but i feel so different with this pregnancy i'll be v surprised if it's another boy..

llareggub · 18/10/2008 23:17

I was shocked when the sonographer told me I was having a boy last time, because my usually very accurate gut instinct told me it would be a girl. In fact, my response was very muted.

This time we aren't going to find out, and funnily enough my gut instinct is staying quiet for now.

12 week scan on Monday, and I am sooooo nervous. I've posted previously about my two miscarriages this year and I am so worried that this scan will be bad news. I keep telling myself that the signs are good, as I am shattered, rather large and feeling sick occasionally. I just want Monday over.

LoobyLou36 · 19/10/2008 09:44

Morning Ladies. Well I'm 12 weeks today and feeling alot more positive (at the moment) although I went to bed at 9 last night with a terrible headache and have woke up with it. Met some girl friends yesterday for lunch and they dragged me into mothercare, I felt so weird going in there, even tho one of my friends is also pregnant ( she 16 wks) I felt like I was jinxing myself - I know I'm paranoid. She was trying to get me to try things on..it's one thing to bid on things on ebay, quite another to try things on in mothercare! The morning sickness also seems worse now not better. Oh well all good signs I guess.

LoobyLou36 · 19/10/2008 10:07

Also why the hell don't men understand ms? When I wake up in the mornings all I want to do is puke - AND NO I DON"T WANT SEX!!
