wow congrats star -long labour but well worth it

It seems some hospitals have massively differing policies about jaundice and BFing- my last hospital was very pro-formula (i was told to FF to prevent jaundice as DS was very big-this made establishing BFing much tougher for me when I got home- not to mention agonisingly full boobs!) My new hosp has a pro BFing policy for jaundice and mums in general. You'd think that it would be standardised across the board?

Honeymoonmummy- baby is probably asleep when you are walking around- all that movement is nice and soothing for her to nod off to. Mine tends to do the same and gives me random sharp pains too when walking- can only assume its the weight on my pelvis and all those poor ligaments being tormented? Sorry not all that helpful but I know the feeling well- ouch.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/10/2008 21:28

I just finished X-Factor too jenwa. I love this stage, but Cheryl really does have the hardest job cutting out 3 of those.

WheresTheAuPair · 04/10/2008 21:32

Can't believe we have to watch again tomorrow tho -i'm bound to forget its on

grr I keep eating all the food i've made for the freezer . Must do a big cooking session to make it up-its very handy finding all these nice portion sized meals for easy lunches/dinner...not quite the idea tho before baby arrives!

snowymum · 04/10/2008 21:33

It's all happening, isn't it? Congrats to Star and Bethoo - wonderful news. All these momentous life events for us all - it's a bit overwhelming, really!

I have just finished (or got to a decent point in) a really big work project today, so I feel that I can afford to have a few weeks off now! Sounds daft, but I'm hoping that now it's finished my body can just relax and give me my baby - who, incidentally, is kicking like he's never kicked before tonight. Plus my bump and boobs are rock hard... I want to be the next announcment! (Sod's law I'll be 3 weeks overdue now.)

Congrats to all again, and good luck to those imminent...

jenwa · 04/10/2008 21:37

CSWS I would not like to get rid of anyone! I like Laura and the girl who was in in afew years ago and also the quirky one. Amy is sweet, it would be a hard choice! I also think Simons lot were good too, strange they put on telly about him asking that lad to tell the truth, unless its more for publicity??!!!

Just a question also, My DD is 3 next week and my sis in law said I could have there double buggy when baby arrives. Now I still use a buggy for DD when going to town etc so what age do people tend to stop putting kids in a buggy? I just dont think I could face such a slow walk home from town with pushchair and DD strolling along next to me! Plus she would be shattered! I asked for the double buggy ages ago but just wondered if I would actually use it lots or just occasionally. I cant use one of those buggy boards as I have really long legs and know I would keep kicking my shins and would end up walking funny and hurting my back!

07mumstheword · 04/10/2008 21:45

Star So glad you are home congratulations again on the birth of Quinlan.

I'm getting lots of aches and pains low down tonight feels like pushing into my bowels general period pain and the odd ouch pain that has brought tears to my eyes. Maybe the reflexology got something moving but DH is taking the inlaws to Gatwick at 4.45am not home until 10am ish so I hope if anything happens it will be when he's back. Having said all that I do seem to get pains most evenings when I'm relaxing. Like I said earlier I'm just very anxious today.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/10/2008 21:48

WTAP - you need to get Sky+ and series link it!
Jenwa - you have remembered their names much better than me. Hannah is the only one I can name, and the only girl that I am certain will get through.
I didn't think that Simon's did so well, but Austin will go through I think.

For buggies, it really depends on the child. I can count on one hand how many times dd has used a buggy in the last 6 months (she's 2yrs 8 months), so I have never even entertained the idea of a double.

Snowymum - you get in line young lady - I need to be next, or it's induction central!

Wondering if perkypopsy has had hers, as she's not been on for a few days.

OP posts:
snowymum · 04/10/2008 21:55

[snowymum graciously steps aside for CSWS] Of course, you MUST be next! Wouldn't it be great if something happened for you overnight? Fingers crossed for you...

4andnotout · 04/10/2008 21:55

Congratulations Bethoo and Sambrads
Did anyone else who needed iron tablets find it makes them sick? I was sick today at my parents and have felt really ill since i started taking them on wednesday They have given me bad stomach cramps too which is a pain in the bum!
Im not due for another 3 weeks and im nowhere near ready so not wishing it away this time! Im getting apprehensive about the 13month age gap and the fact that dd3 cant walk yet so will still need carrying around and fetching and carrying for. But i suppose it's too late to start worrying now, dp is still off sick from work and until he has a heart scan to check damage he isn't likely to be going back for another month or so.

SmudgeyDoodle · 04/10/2008 21:56

Big congrats Bethoo, Sambrads and Star. Glad you're all ok and little ones doing ok. I don't think I'll even speak to Pistachio - Christmas presents bought and wrapped!!! We haven't even got a double buggy yet AJM I really hope you have success with baby turning like the others have - fingers crossed! Great news about Joe not needing to go back in and I hope you get more sleep tonight in the lou household. Ekka, that sounds good about DD at the childminders. I have Tuesday mornings planned for my baby time but we'll have to see how it goes. Jenwa I think you have to decide what suits you re pushchairs. I see some probably 4 year olds in pushchairs so I don't think a 3 year old is too big. It's prob more whether you have the energy to push them both versus the patience to wait for her to dawdle! I'll have to try and log on twice daily to keep up with all the births. Problem is that my little helper then wants to go on the Night Garden web site. Peaceful nights then to all (except CSWS and Aubergenie because tonight is the night for you!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/10/2008 21:59

I reckon Aubergenie has her baby by now, as she's not posted since waters breaking last night .
Just spotted that plusonemore is being induced tomorrow morning too.

Am quite happy to have a good night's sleep (as if ) first, and labour during the day tomorrow. I don't ask much do I ?

OP posts:
WheresTheAuPair · 04/10/2008 21:59

jenwa i had this dilemma too- DS is 23 months and rarely uses a buggy, however since being PG i've been using the stroller mainly to hang things on and noticed that he does like to hop in now and again to rest his legs now I can't pick him up when he's tired. I couldn't face a buggy board for same reason as you-i'd have black and blue shins!! Bought a P&T's on ebay a few weeks ago but its sat unused in the car since. I did wonder if i'd cope with a sling but after c/s not sure when i'll be strong enough to use it (arghhh!). Decided in the end to be proactive and get one anyway and if i don't use it much I can re-sell on ebay! Its a toughie tho- depends on how much walking you do I guess?

Emmsy1 · 05/10/2008 01:31

Brilliant news Bethoo and star can't wait to read your birth stories! CSWS hope you labour well tomorrow
This is all so very exciting, can't wait to log on each day, also get's me a little nervous about the impending birth keep remembering how terribly painful last 2 labours were. Star did you get your epidural?

star6 · 05/10/2008 04:57

Emmsy1 - well, I got a low dose epidural, but only after being in labour for 29 hours and wasn't dialating sufficiently quickly for the amount of time that had passed since waters breaking. Had a nice few hours of rest... then it wore off and no more top ups allowed and well, that last bit was sort of the part I wanted the epidural for. A lot ended up happening all of a sudden. I'll post birth story on the birth announcements thread. I might be a good candidate for a CAVB (attempting to write, "vbac" backward)

loulou33 · 05/10/2008 09:16

Congrats Star and well done for surviving 36 hours.

Am really cross for you - as you know Joe is very jaundiced and brestfeeding does make it a bit worse but your mw should not be telling you to use ff - Joes bilirubin is very high and they have told me just o tkeep giving him lots of bf (at elast every 4 hours) and that will sort it out - unless your son needs phototherapy his jaundice can't be that bad...sorry but i am ranting about poor advice you have been given.

Hope you're both well - Joe awake so i must go....

ajm200 · 05/10/2008 09:29

Congratulations Star.. DS was jaundiced and i was told to BF him every 2 hours and keep in sunlight as much as possible. No mention of formula..

Morning all
Well im 37 weeks today and today we are going to finally get prepared so i can look forward to the new arrival. We still haven't settled on a name, we have a huge list so hopefully she will suit one when she is born.
DD3 keeps taking a few steps, then realising she is doing it and stopping!

snowymum · 05/10/2008 10:01

Ooh, I have a new thing to add to pineapple, curry and mercy shagging - marjoram oil. My DH does t'ai chi and his very proficient teacher has got his wife's two labours going by putting a few drops in a carrier oil like almond oil and massaging it into the lower belly. Has to be in a carrier oil. Worth a try this afternoon, CSWS, if you can send someone to Holland and Barrett? DH ordered it online for me and my bottle arrives on Monday!

rach010 · 05/10/2008 10:47

AJM good luck for ECV, work for me.

Congrats to all new mums, can't keep up!

I'm 38 weeks today and really starting to feel uncomfortable, can't find any comfy clothes to wear that keep me warm! Dreadful heartburn too. Hopefully not for too much longer.

Alexa808 · 05/10/2008 11:33

Hello ladies,

just a quick one from my hospital bed: my DH and I have had our little baby on October the 2nd. It's a gorgeous baby girl and she's all I ever wanted.

The CS went well and I've started to walk around and am being cared for by the kind nurses here in TMC in Singapore.

I'll nap for a bit now but please come and say hi on my thread in Birth Announcements.

usuallytooshytochat · 05/10/2008 11:50

Morning all. Congratulations for all the new babies since I last looked in. There's no excuse for snoozing in this club. Star - well done for getting through your mamouth labour and pre-labour phase too. pistachio I hope you're right about work behind the scenes, coz you sound like me - it all happens in the evening for me (last night I was so sure i had 2 contractions! Rocking on ball in front of xfactor helped ) but then they've always gone by morning .

07mumstheword · 05/10/2008 12:37

Pistachio & Usuallytooshytochat Thank you thank you thank you for saying that it makes me feel so much better to know others are getting the same sensations that appear to be non existant by morning. I feel a little less paranoid today

Pistachio I'm with you too on the Christmas present front. I've wrapped DD stocking and some of babies (figured dd would wonder why baby didn't get a visit from santa so got a few small bits for her to open on babies behalf) gifts and I've done other family too. I've just got to sort money or vouchers for the teenage nieces and nephews and my Mum, it feels like such a relief especially as writing the cards takes an age in itself plus thank you cards in between for any baby gifts and thats not to mention the sleepless nights .

CSWS Just wanted to wish you well for tomorrow if nothing happens before.

And finally another birth congratulations to Alexa on the birth of a beautiful daughter. I'm impressed at you keeping in touch from your hospital bed.

07mumstheword · 05/10/2008 12:40

Oh and good luck AJM for your ECV tomorrow and I'm sure someone else was being induced tomorrow but can't remember who sorry but good luck anyway.

ronshar · 05/10/2008 13:30

Congratulations to Bethoo, Star and Alexa*.
Brillant news on the safe arrival of more of our October babies.

Star I am so pleased we have heard from you. Dont listen to any bollocks from midwives who tell you that you cant pick up YOUR baby. Yes they do need to learn to sleep on their own but at 39hrs old I think a cuddle will be much better for both of you especially after a long birth. My DD1 was 27 hrs, ventouse etc. Cuddles make it all better Also dont be pressured into Formula feeding if you really dont want to. As CSWS has said look on breast feeding threads, loads of brilliant and common sense support. Well done my love. We were all thinking of you.

As of yesterday no news from Popsy. She is waiting for me.

I am very of Bethoo. As my due date buddy I feel let down.
I'm off to check out the birth announcement threads.
