Aubergenie · 03/10/2008 13:51

Sorry, I forgot to say Happy Birthday to Snowymum!

ronshar · 03/10/2008 13:57

Oh bugger ladies.
Aubergine please dont be scared. It will be ok. Loads of inductions are over real quick. It doesnt have to be a traumatic experience. Just remember you will be seeing your little baby by Sunday. It is all worth it I promise.

CSWS, do you still have until Monday then? You are going to have to tie DH to the bed and just keep him there at your convinence the whole 2 days. You still have two days. Alot could happen.

Ask Bethoo for some tips. I cant think of any because in my house sex has become a bit tricky/uncomfortable. Although I shall try and persevere tonight if DH feels lucky for his birthday

Fingers crossed for you both.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/10/2008 14:04

We don't do sex ronshar. Not since 12 weeks anyway .

Sorry to hear that you're in a very similar position Aubergenie. Sucks doesn't it.

snowymum · 03/10/2008 14:10

Grr to the possible inductions. I've read somewhere that you can ask to have just a little bit of the drug, and see if that kicks things off, then increase the dose if it doesn't - might keep things more bearable?

Two whole days until Monday, though, and that's a long time where stuff can happen. Will send (gentle) eviction vibes to you both.

(Thanks for the lovely welcome back, ladies! What was I thinking, abandoning you all like that? )

ronshar · 03/10/2008 14:11

Sorry love I didnt mean to assume. I know everyone does it differently for different reasons. I hope it happens for you this weekend regardless of how

ronshar · 03/10/2008 14:12

Thats ok Snowy. You are allowed to have off days. You are pregnant you know

snowymum · 03/10/2008 14:18

Hopefully not for long, Ronshar!

firsttimer08 · 03/10/2008 14:28

hi everyone,
have been lurking around the thread but haven't posted in a while.

Congrats to all those who're through the process already - i'm soo envious. Well i've still got a while to go till 20th - starting maternity leave next week, so looking forward to a bit of relaxation before the baby. Have set up the cot and changing table and hospital bag is all packed.

where is this contraction timer link? i cannot find it on the postings.

as for MILs - mine was actually upset that my mum is coming for the birth of the baby ! MIL wanted to be in the delivery suite but DH had already said no to her. Though MIL's first question upon hearing of my mums arrival was, "when will she be leaving? " - at least let her come first )))))))

btw i haven't go around to ordering the tens machine. it seems star managed to survive without it ! Is it really needed? with all the expensive baby stuff, i'm not really in the mood for doling out another 30 quid on sthg that won't really get me through the most painful parts.

Who all is planning on the epidural?

WheresTheAuPair · 03/10/2008 14:32

hedgepig at least your DH is working on it! Had to stage a strop last night to get the remaining IT stuff out of the room last night (no darling the LO does not want to share its nursery with dusty old monitors, hard drives and boxes of dvds/disks- arghhh!)

Positive vibes coming your way auberginie- sometimes induction is very fast/successful so fingers crossed for you.

sparklesandnowinefor3weeks · 03/10/2008 14:37

Happy Birthday Snowymum

1sttimer80 · 03/10/2008 14:47

Hi Ladies,

me again... another quick question... how long can the first stage of labour realistically last??

I've had enough of these regular/ireegular contractions (been having them since 4am yesterday morning) and everytime I call the hospital (twice now) they keep saying to wait until they are 3-4 minutes apart, but I feel like I'm NEVER going to get there!

sparklesandnowinefor3weeks · 03/10/2008 14:50

sorry 1sttimer but it can last hours/days even.....sorry to be the barer of bad news

but you'll get there, it may seem like forever but once it gets going properly you'll be ok

1sttimer80 · 03/10/2008 14:54

It's ok sparkles, I knew that would be the answer deep down. I'm booked in for an induction on thursday next week, but need to go in wednesday night, so we shall see.

It's just really getting me down now.

snowymum · 03/10/2008 14:55

Thanks Sparkles! [birthday cake emoticon]

sparklesandnowinefor3weeks · 03/10/2008 14:59

i know how you feel i was like that with my 1st it was so disappointing when i kept getting sent home from hospital because i wasn't in established labour

we had lots of sex, curries and went on very bumpy car rides, it worked and DS1 was born naturally within 48hrs

sparklesandnowinefor3weeks · 03/10/2008 15:01

don't get depressed about it though, its such a wonderful time and you know your baby is coming and will be here soon, just concentrate on that and not how long it takes

hedgepig · 03/10/2008 15:01

Aubergine it may we worth a quick look at this thread here did the mw saw what your cervix was like when she did the sweep? I know there are some appalling induction stories out there but also it can go quite smoothly, just try and be positive and don't get stressed remember adrenalin (stress) will block oxytocin so the calmer you are the more effective the contractions will be . PS if I get to be induced please feel free to spout this back at me
wheretheaupair talk of those computer bits makes me wonder are you sure my DH isn't living around your house?? Every Bl*y cupboard I open in this house has a bit of computer living in it (I made him put the monitors in the loft)

bethoo · 03/10/2008 15:12

if i bounce on a birthing ball will it help bring on labour or does it just prepare the pelvis?

happy birthday snowymum

oh and dont have sex on y0ur back as did that the other morning and my baby disappeared! my bump was flat so she must have fallen to the back! was very paranoid that she would come out as flat as a pancake. she has moved since then so she should be ok!

WheresTheAuPair · 03/10/2008 15:50

hedgepig our loft is now stuffed with IT stuff. I've got him to box up the rest of the computer stuff. thing is- its like playing that game where to get to one place you have to now move something else! If we divorce it will be over his blo*dy computers grrr. My lovely parents have agreed to store them for us so come Sunday I may actually have a bedroom which doesn't resemble a warehouse!

bethoo i think it can help being on labour -my midwife friend says it encourages the head to engage and so release hormones to move things on.

I must be the only person on this thread doing everything to prevent labour!!

sparklesandnowinefor3weeks · 03/10/2008 15:54

bethoo i take it all is going well with your new dp then

ajm200 · 03/10/2008 16:09

Hi everyone, just got back from what should have been a relaxing reflexology session at the hospital. Ended up having a scan and finding out baby is now a footling breech. ECV booked for Tuesday.. Seems last weekends false alarm was actually baby flipping over... I'm in shock at the mo... its been a eventful month

plusonemore · 03/10/2008 16:45

aubergine (and anyone elso who might be induced) check out MissusH birth story in September thread and you might not feel so nervous here

ajm200 · 03/10/2008 16:55

Aubergenie. Some inductions are really quick. When I was in last time several mums went in, had a gel pessery and were moved to labour ward within a couple of hours..

If your BP is that high, it really is best that baby comes out sooner rather than later. If the MW was able to do a sweep, that's a really good sign that your body is ready and there's a good chance that the inducton will be simple..

I've been where you are now.. I know how bad it feels but you can do this

ronshar · 03/10/2008 16:59

Shite AJM. Nothing else to say.

usuallytooshytochat · 03/10/2008 17:58

Aubergenie I was induced with ds1 - admitted week 37 with Pre-Eclampsia, then held out against induction for a week! I was terrified too and in total denial (I didnt feel ill or anything?). Why don't they ever explain properly why things need to happen?
But seriously - the induction was not bad at all. Sweep did nothing, pessary started things off, then oxytocin drip did the trick - 6 hours later, lovely baby boy. I didn't need drugs or any other interventions, so it can go smoothly - just try to enjoy your birth experience and hold out for as much of your plan as you can.

I am 40 + 1 today and starting to wonder how long I'll be waiting - almost hoped that bp would be up when I went to doctors today But she did say 3/5th engaged - which sounded like a good start to me!
