Hello ladies! Feel a bit of a cheat posting here as I've been skulking around not reading or posting for the last month or so. Logged on for the first time yesterday: far too much to catch up on but huge congrats to everyone who's had their nipper. Reading some stuff on mumsnet still gives me sleepless nights, it turns out - made the mistake of reading the sept post natal thread yesterday and had nightmares all last night about breastfeeding during which I dreamed my boobs fell off! let's hope it doesn't come to that...

Anyway, it was my due date yesterday, and it's my birthday today. Don't feel as though anything is imminent, although I don't know how much longer my poor pelvis can take the strain of all this weight! Baby is 4/5 engaged (meaningless, I know) and definitely running out of room - his poor little stifled kicks and shoves are nothing compared to the flying roundhouses he could do a couple of weeks ago.

Congrats again to all, and good luck to those about to pop esp CSWS today.

1sttimer80 · 03/10/2008 10:06

Hi All,

Congrats Rosebury!!

COntractions are were regular 8-9mins for 2 hours this mroning, now they've disappeared!!! I just don't know what's going on.

I don't think this baby is going to ever come out!

Snowymum you and I are due date buddies! Happy Birthday!!

Jenwa, yes my sentiments exactly... dear MIL keeps calling every morning, usually after a rubbish nights sleep I'm usually asleep until about 10ish trying to get some rest, but this mornign was up so picked up the phone and all she could say was oooo you're up.... errr yes... and then swiftly followed with you need to start walking (which she's told me about 20 times already)... as if I'm just stuck to the sofa... how much can I walk?!!!

sorry rant over!!

snowymum · 03/10/2008 10:10

Ooh, 1stT, sounds like you might beat me if you've had some contractions already! best of luck if they kick off into something more...

It's so weird thinking we could have our babies today, tomorrow - or in two weeks' time! Nature needs to buy herself a decent desktop diary and stick to it...

Happy birthday Snowy. I was only thinking of you this morning. I was looking at the list and I saw you were over now? So have you missed us all?.
How have you been? Stop looking at the other threads, it is hard not to scare yourself silly. Have you had any input from your midwife with regards to a sweep etc?

MIL's should be banned. I know some mean well but really. If they had brought up their sons properly we wouldnt be need their input would we?. My MIL is lovely but I dont even want MY mum at the birth let alone my MIL!!
Actually come to think about it I am not even that bothered about DH being there. He isnt much help, mostly because if he tried to mop my brow I would be very unhappy!
I find I become very concentrated on what I have to do. Last time it was just so intense, in a good way, that I didnt even notice my DH had locked himself ouside the front door. He had to wait for me to finish a push (just as DD2 was crowning) for midwife to open the door for him. The second midwife arrived at the same time so it worked out ok in the end!!

1sttimer80 · 03/10/2008 10:20

Snowymum... I completely agree about the whole diary thing!! have induction booked in next week but I really hope I give birth naturally before then!

1sttimer80 · 03/10/2008 10:23

Myjobis mum... congratulations on being so brave... and doing everything without pain relief!

snowymum · 03/10/2008 10:31

Ronshar, you poppet. Yes, I have missed you all, genuinely. But I wavered between the huge upside of mumsnet - the friendship and the support - vs the crazy things it does to my head. Have now resolved to be a proper grown up (about time, am 34 today, sigh) and employ some self control to not look at other threads, as you suggest!

No discussion of a sweep yet. I hired an indie midwife which is a total luxury who is quite chilled about the whole thing and won't entertain the thought of an induction if everything's looking healthy, even if i'm 2 weeks over or there are actual reasons for it. Planning a hwb but went to the hospital for a poke around the other day just to see what it was like - not half as bad as I thought it was going to be so that's good.

I should just stop bloody worrying about everything. But it's this whole 'omg my life is about to completely change am i up to it' feeling which rocks me... birthday's always make me too reflective and prone to have crises of confidence, anyway!

Curry and pineapple planned for dinner. tried this last weekend but didn't work! Bloody delicious though. DH made it for me for he is a GOD.

ronshar · 03/10/2008 10:37

OOOO that looks bloody lovely.
It is my DH b'day to day. He deals with his birthday by trying to ignore it and then pretend he is still 17. I am 34 so I know exactly how you feel. It is an odd age isnt it?

DH is off out for a curry tonight with his chums. He is not allowed to drink mind you

It is easy to worry about all the changes having a baby will bring but the best one is the rush of love you feel for this little bundle. It may not come straight away it may even take a couple of weeks/months but eventually you can look at this child who you made and it makes everything else worthwhile.

hedgepig · 03/10/2008 10:41

happy birthday snowy Virtual cake is on the table (not egg plant I'm afraid)

pepperrabbit · 03/10/2008 10:55

Morning all, congrats annwoo & rosebury!
Can't wait for details, tho can't tell DH stories re home deliveries too fast for medics! He did once have to leave the room when I had a scan so I think he'd be pretty useless.
No action here at all, saw v nice midwife yesterday, she said that feeling sorry for yourself was no justification for an induction.... (it was worth a try I thought )
39 weeks today. With DS2 I was being induced today.
snowy the most irritating thing I found first time round was people constantly telling me how much my life would change - even people without kids!

snowymum · 03/10/2008 11:08

God, pepper, I am so with you on that. I run my own little company, and have a blog, and the number of people who have left comments to that effect when I've been posting about business stuff - completely un-solicited, unwanted advice! One woman emailed attaching links to anti-homebirth sites and said 'what would you do if your baby died - homebirth is well known for being dangerous [twat emoticon], another emailed saying she assumed my business would shut down as I couldn't possibly be contemplating keeping it going with a baby... people just astound me. I have promised myself I will never give advice to people unless specifically, directly asked!

Happy birthday to your DH, Ronshar, and thanks for the cake, Hedepig. I will have some now with a special birthday treat coffee (I know, call the pregnancy police...)

pepperrabbit · 03/10/2008 11:19

snowy whispers I just had a real jaffa cake..... It was lovely, and all the more so for not being allowed! (with my sugar thing - there's not a general ban on jaffa cakes for the PG obviously!)

snowymum · 03/10/2008 11:23

Um! Jaffa cake! I'm telling.

I think given what we have gone through the last 9 months we jolly well deserve a jaffa cake, or a coffee - or a half-bottle of gin! Nearly there... and whilst it's scary, it is very exciting.

[starts bouncing with renewed vigour on swiss ball]

SmudgeyDoodle · 03/10/2008 11:39

Congrats Anwoo and Rosebury. Hope Sambrads being quiet is because things are happening for her. Think positive labour thoughts those who want them out before the weekend - CSWS fingers crossed that the sweep/reflexology combo works. I keep eating maltesers as a treat. I've given up on buying snacks for my labour bag as I've eaten them all about 3 times over and I've still got 3 weeks to go. I think a jaffa cake is fully deserved pepperabbit. Happy Birthday Snowy, hope you had a lovely coffee.

rach010 · 03/10/2008 11:45

Congrats to the new mum's.

I've got some good news, baby turned with ECV, wasn't as bad as i thought, hoping it stays head down now.

Having a restful day today.

BFN

SmudgeyDoodle · 03/10/2008 11:58

Fab news Rach. You take it easy now and keep that baby the right way up!

WheresTheAuPair · 03/10/2008 12:03

wow all these babies coming early! Congrats to you ladies can barely keep up- every time I log in there has been more births-how exciting!

Anyone else having really weird dreams? I had one last night that I gave birth to an alligator and was told that I couldn't take him swimming in case he bit people!! lol

hedgepig · 03/10/2008 12:41

I had a weird dream (very horrid alert) that Gordon Ramsey had put my DS in a roasting pan and was about to cook him. Then I woke up thank heavens. I had roast a chicken that day so maybe that was where it come from.

Back from my walk (2 miles not bad) with a short stop at the garden center for the loo and a hot chocolate and ..... a cake Its blown the cobwebs away if nothing else

rowanmac · 03/10/2008 13:06

Congrats annwoo and rosebury. Won't mention DH delivering baby to my DH as we live 1/2hr from hosp and last labour short.

Seen MW today BP behaving, head well down and uterus really soft, gone all floppy since yesterday so no sign of action. I'm getting mixed messages re my cancelling the appt with consultant on the one hand they're a bit miffed with me on the other they too are saying being really miserable isn't a reason for induction but the consultant would be sympathetic. No offence but I don't need a 30 mile round trip, long wait in clinic with DS in tow for a bit of sympathy.

I have contemplated trying copious amounts of alcohol to induce labour but can you imagine arriving at Labour Ward smelling like a gin factory, they'd have social services waiting to catch the baby.

WheresTheAuPair · 03/10/2008 13:30

am so duh sometimes- as I was reading this thread it occurred that it is THE October thread and it is now October!!

Yikes. I am I the only one in denial who has not sorted out their LO's nursery yet?

hedgepig i am in awe of a 2 mile walk this morning

hedgepig · 03/10/2008 13:36

you'r not the only one still sorting out the nursery wherestheaupair I'm due tomorrow and DH is still working on it. He has banned me from helping because of the fumes but I might do a bit of sneaky painting this afternoon.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/10/2008 13:48

Welcome back Snowy, and happy birthday. I too was only thinking about you yesterday and wondering when you would rejoin the fold.

Unfortunately it's bad news from my attempted sweep. I'm looking no further along than I was on Monday - cervix still closed so they couldn't get at the membranes to sweep them. Looks like I'll be hanging on for induction on Monday.

Well done on the ECV rach.

I had aubergine Parmigiana when I went for my night out in London the other week - was yummy.

OP posts:
Aubergenie · 03/10/2008 13:50

Hello ladies, I've just got back from the hospital my BP has gone up quite a bit and they want to induce me tomorrow. I'm very upset and disappointed as I thought I would have until at Monday for things to happen naturally. I begged the midwife for a sweep, which she did, but she didn't seem to hold out much hope that it would work. Please send me some positive vibes, I'm terrified.

ronshar · 03/10/2008 13:51

OOO painting might be the tipping point! All that stretching.

Well done Rach101. Plain sailing to a nice normal delivery now

So is it not recommended to eat a whole pack of Jaffa Cakes in one go then? No wonder I havent had this baby yet I am doing it all wrong. I bloody love Jaffa Cakes. What about Carrot cake can I eat lots of that?

Reflexology was gorgeous this morning. The lady said hopefully it will come tonight. I shall be on the door step of the salon in the morning if it hasnt asking for my money back! Either that or DH will be sent with some flowers. I reckon it will be me with a face like this
