Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
usuallytooshytochat · 01/10/2008 05:25

Thanks Emmsy That fits in with what I've been reading, but its much more reassuring to hear it from another mum.
I am presuming hospital will ask us to come in slightly earlier in Labour than we were planning, but that might not be a bad thing, as I wasn't looking forward to the car journey anyway!

Emmsy1 · 01/10/2008 05:33

UTSTC your welcome My MW's don't seem to be bothered, was told that if I don't get the 2 doses of AB then baby will get them. I am still going to go in quite quickly though as my labours are relatively short and want to have the AB myself so I don't have to put 'LO' through any undue stress, also want to bring baba home asap!was also told that if my waters break, I must go in straight away, chances are though that they won't, I seem to have very tough membranes, and always have to get my waters broken for me. Once they do it the baby pops out (just wish they would do it as soon as the pain is too much)

usuallytooshytochat · 01/10/2008 05:45

I was induced and had fairly quick labour last time - no idea what timing will be like naturally! But would also prefer not to be stuck in hospital for too long after birth. Feeling much better now, so will try to go to sleep!

star6 · 01/10/2008 06:09

I went in again and was sent home again... she gave me gas and air for the pain (thought it was a mean trick at first to get me to not have an epidural) but I liked the gas and air... then she examined me... that took A LONG TIME. I could not relax for her... she told me I was acting like a little girl but I don't care! Now I'm stuck at home with very frequent contractions... i was only 1cm dilated!!! . The contractions come every 2-3 minutes and are strong. Not sure how much longer I@ll last. I can have the epidural at 4cm...

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/10/2008 07:26

How long are the contractions lasting now star? Have you gas and air at home, or just whilst you were in hospital? You are being very brave .

pingviner - scans are nororiously wrong about birtgweight, so try not to panic. I have been known people to be told that they will have 10lb babies, and then had 6lbers!

jenwa · 01/10/2008 07:35

star go and have a nice bath, that will may help a little and ignore them telling you that you were being a little girl tell them this is your 1st baby and you are scared and not to speak to you like that!!!

Good luck will be thinking of you today.

star6 · 01/10/2008 07:40

English was her second language... I think she may have meant well. I've been on sofa with dh, dozing off every 5 minutes, waking every 5 minutes to moan, scream and breathe...I took the top to the gas and air mouthpiece home with me and am breathing through it to give me something to help focus breathing.
I asked if I could get gas and air at home and she said no! I thought I wouldnt like it, but I love love loved it!!!! I want to go back to hospital just to have it again. Contractions are about every 5 minutes for a little under a minute... just like before... and on bottom of bump and lower back. I want to hold my baby but still a bit frightened of the next internal exam.... it hurt soooooooooooo much and I can't relax at all when someone inserts something down there... even had difficulty with GBS swab. Is there another way to check for dilation?
I love you all.... thanks for support!!!

emkay · 01/10/2008 07:44

Good luck star - will be thinking of you today. Maybe steer clear of the bath though because your waters have gone. I'm sure that you and DH are doing all the right things even though it must be totally overwhelming for you right now that everything is happening sooner than expected. This is exactly how it happened for me first time round and it all worked out really well.

Try to breathe as much as possible through the contraction - my midwife last time kept saying 'blow it away', and that really helped. Each one that comes is bringing you closer to your darling baby.

Good luck!

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/10/2008 07:46

You managed to get pregnant, so it can't always hurt .
Did they use the speculum? If so it was prob to get the swab properly. I don't find them very comfortable either, but I'm pretty certain that none were used during my labour. They will need to use fingers to check dilation though. There's no magic way to tell otherwise. Or they could just guess and give you random numbers if you like .

And how is wombfor1more today? We sort of passed you over a bit last night, sorry!

OP posts:
star6 · 01/10/2008 07:53

it was even very difficult when I got pregnant... I always have a hard time with that. DH said it was just her fingers... but it felt like a screwdriver turning around in there!!!

07mumstheword · 01/10/2008 07:56

Star What a night you've had but things are really happening now Even if MW mean't well don't take any notice you have every right to your feelings and it is bloody scary so you can act like a little girl All the very best for your little one arrive today.

I spent an hour in the bath last night until 11.30pm and it helped cramps all seems ok so far today so must just be things moving down again

Aubergenie · 01/10/2008 08:20

Morning ladies! I?ve just logged on and can?t believe what I?ve been missing!

Star - If you?re still there, we?re all thinking about you and sending positive vibes. Just think, you?ll be holding your baby in your arms really soon. Good luck!!

Wombfor1more - How are you doing? Is anything happening?

Honeymoonmummy ? I did the hypnobirthing course so didn?t use the Natal hypnotherapy CD, but others on this site have said they found it really useful. I don?t think it?s ever too late, but you will need to put in plenty of practice between now and the big day to get the benefit.

My sweep clearly didn?t work, so I?m trying to remind myself that this baby will come when he?s good and ready and not before. Disappointed though, especially as I?ve got to trek all the way to the hospital again today (bus, train and walk) to get my BP checked again. I was really hoping I wouldn?t have to do too many more trips.

ajm200 · 01/10/2008 08:25

Honeymoonmummy I've got the natal hypnotherapy cd and the music cd too. The hypnotherapy cd is good and very relaxing but I suspect it could get very annoying to listen to in labour so I got the music too. The idea is you brain associates the music with the hypnotherapy sessions you have been listening to and it works as a relaxation trigger. It seems to work.. I slept with it on from 4am this morning.

I wanted to come downstairs to check on Star's progress but DH was sleeping on the sofa so had to wait..

sambrads · 01/10/2008 08:29

oh my god i am so stupid for not logging on last night !! good luck STAR i am thinking of you

i am offically 1 day over due going tomorrow for sweep and get my date for induction i am heading away shopping today so maybe that will make me go into labour ???

i have been reading up on sweeps on the net and it says a sweep will usually work within 48 hours and thats if it is going to work and if your cervix is soft then its more likely to work .

i just hope it works for me!!

ajm200 · 01/10/2008 08:36

Star sorry you've had a bad night but I hope things are progressing for you and you are back in hospital by now, with some pain relief and baby well on his way.

If you are still stuck at home, maybe your DH can get you a tens machine from your local tesco pharmacy to help with the pain. Costs less than 30 pounds and you just need a clubcard.

WombFor1More · 01/10/2008 09:32

I've had a baby

Well turns out those BH were a bit more than that after all! Had baby boy, HB, no pain relief, no name as yet, at 2.04am weighing in at 8lb 13oz.

He was only 2 days overdue so wasn't expecting him yet. Can't believe I'm a mum of 4

Proper contractions started about 10pm. He wasn't as quick as dd thank goodness, he came out slower cos the little monkey had his elbow next to his face and cord wrapped around his neck and body loads of times but we got there in thr end!!!

Will do proper story when I have had some rest

Oh and he is bf'ing like a pro!

belgo · 01/10/2008 09:33

congratulations Womb4onemore! So glad all is well.

jennylindinha · 01/10/2008 09:46

Hello October ladies! I am from the September thread but am 4 days late, so my baby will be an October one after all and I wanted to pop over and say hello to you

AND I've just spotted that WombFor1More has had her baby - many congratulations! Looking forward to hearing the full story...

bethoo · 01/10/2008 09:49

ajm200 · 01/10/2008 09:54

Congratulations Wombfor1more !

star6 · 01/10/2008 10:12

congrats wombfor1more! Writing in between contractions... I dont know when to go back to the hospital... I can't bear being sent home again but contractions are lasting about 40 seconds and about 4 minutes apart. I can't believe I've been able to deal with them!

Good for you with the homebirth wombfor1more... wish I was that brave.

belgo · 01/10/2008 10:15

how exciting Star! Keep us updated for as long as you can

ajm200 · 01/10/2008 10:16

Star, you are doing brilliantly to still be at home and able to get onto MN as well. Try taking long, deep breathes in through your nose and letting the air out slowly though your mouth when a contraction hits. This is people mean by breathing through contractions and is normally taught at the classes...

Hang in there.. you can do this.
