Autumn I just read your post very quickly and had to reread as I thought you meant your jeans were wet, as in waters broken!!! Having not been outside for lunch at all I forgot about the lovely weather! And I thought you were being quite blasé about it!

thomasina1 · 30/09/2008 13:55

Hana I think we will take your approach too and not get the isofix base to begin with. We are borrowing the car seat from my sister and she didn't use the base either.

For a pram have you thought about getting a maclaren now? They do lie flat, just not facing you, but could be a good option if you're not going to use it much. Plus everyone seems to get one once their baby is over about 3 months so you'll be ahead of the game!

AutumnLady · 30/09/2008 13:56

Hahaha ChocO, no waters broken here, merely crap weather!! Horizontal rain on the bridge meant that my umbrella was pretty useless. Now my legs are just cold and my shoes are soaking. Luckily I have many spare shoes in my office but most of them are lovely kitten heel types so will be heading for my trusty trainers (and socks) for the journey home. Fingers crossed that the weather is better for Friday

ChocOrange05 · 30/09/2008 14:01

Hana I think its because the Isofix base is fixed into the seat with metal and it is also attached to the floor of the car so its much sturdier being on a solid base. But I am not an expert!

misdee · 30/09/2008 14:04

i got an maxi cosi isofix base and car seat for £10. so i removed the gorgeous covers, ditched the seat and kept the base. then bought new seat for £60 off kiddicare.com which was half price. even if its pink.

I've just burst into tears for no reason. DH had to send me through to the house. Well there was a reason, DH asked if I could hang on until Sue from the office got back from lunch before I went to get some , boy did the tears flow....

Best of luck obs it's really the best thing. Rest up, and get them to put some vitamins in your drip.

sparkletoes · 30/09/2008 14:54

Hi ladies

Have just skimmed posts so cannot reply to all, from memory..

Saurus hugs for your BH, they sound awful! Glad you survived last weekend tho, take it easy and enjoy your week off (I know I did, in fact so much `i've brought mat leave forward by 2 weeks! (grin)).

Obs sorry you still have sickness, I remember how awful that was, hope it improves soon. BTW If you want some one who is crap at scrabble and can't spell then I am your dream opponent! Better at crib tho...

Hana I had the Quinny Buzz for DS. Also had the Dreami but used it only a handful of times so was waste of money really. Planning to use it for DC2 tho so will see what happens... It is pretty easy to fold but easier to unfold thanks to the mechanism. I also bought the shopping basket as I really needed it but it is very tiny.

All in all it is a good pram, I liked that you could just use the car seat alone on the wheels (hate the ones where it clips on to whole buggy - too bulky for me). But you need to get good at remembering the attachments! Hope that helps... P.S re: the facing you prams, IME they are good when they are little as you can chat to them etc but my DS preferred to look forwards when he got bigger as he wanted to see the world! At least with the Quinny I had the option of both. I did get a McLaren when he was about 6 months old tho as it was just so much lighter to push. I also tried the iCandy (apple & pear) models. They were nice but really heavy I thought.

sparkletoes · 30/09/2008 14:57

Oh dear Obs sorry you are now going into hospital, take care.

chocolategal · 30/09/2008 15:02

goodluck obs

my secret stork gift arrived today
thank you so much to my secret stork i really love it! it is the cutest little welcome to the world pyjama set from mamas and papas. cant wait to try it on baby.....

sparkletoes · 30/09/2008 15:06

Sorry I am trying to catch up here..

Pinkali I know exactly what you mean about tears, mine come all too easily at moment and it is so embarrassing at times. Just blame the hormones and lack of sleep!

I never bought the isofix base last time, as long as you know what you are doing (and using the car seat regularly makes this second nature!) it is fine and sturdy without. My ILs went on and on about how the isofix was so great when my SIL got one, then on the first day she used it she couldn't unclip it from the base. How I laughed...

Dozymare · 30/09/2008 15:10

obs hope all pans out..youcan text me and i can uopdate everyone if youcan;t get access to a computer...just make sure you are out by friday! lots of love xxx

ceebee74 · 30/09/2008 15:45

Obs - I hope it is just a brief stay in hospital for you and you feel much better soon!

We have a carseat with a base (M&P one) that we used with DS - we actually bought 2 bases and had one in each car and just swtiched the actual seat around - but I did have a travel system pushchair so did use the carseat on the pram if I was just popping into town for a little bit etc.

MerryMarigold · 30/09/2008 16:22

Oh no obs, I think I have missed you as you posted around 2.30 and I was asleep. What a bummer. We will miss loads you here and on the scrabble boards...

Isofix is safer for crashes at speed, I believe as it is unbelievably sturdy and doesn't move at all - people who have it are big fans. However, I don't know whether the 'easybase' (nb. not the isofix) is any better than just a belt in terms of safety (tho' is probably easier to just clip and out). I wanted isofix but could only put one child out of 3 in it, so didn't really seem fair, and in the grand scheme of things, there are plenty of other dangers in life! I am also not one for stairgates or restricted access to kitchen etc. If they get burnt they will not touch the oven again (ds has never got burnt and only once fallen down the stairs when he had been climbing them for 2 years and should have known better!). So yeah, I would prefer the isofix but can't really have it, and won't worry too much.

ruthosaurus · 30/09/2008 16:32

Oh, Obs, love - big hugs - make sure that man of yours looks after you. You poor thing. All the best and I'm thinking of you. Hope they manage to sort you out at the hospital.

OP posts:
ruthosaurus · 30/09/2008 16:36

Holy crap, Autumnlady - I thought, like Choc, tht you were being really blase about walking home after your waters had gone . Don't do that!

Hey sparkle, yeah, they suck. I can't sit upright at the mo and am leaning backwards at a really dodgy angle cos it hurts to sit up properly. I need DH to come home and make me a sandwich as I can't do food right now!

Pregnancy is officially getting to the awkward stage for a lot of us, no?

OP posts:
ceebee74 · 30/09/2008 16:40

Saurus - you are so right about it now becoming 'awkward' - I can't believe I still have another 7 or 8 weeks of this and it is just going to get worse!

The joys of pregnancy eh???

Pinkyminkee · 30/09/2008 16:45

I think that if you tighten the seatblet really hard the car seat is fine, they are really solid. We had an accident when DS was a baby and his seat didn't move at all, he didn't wake up or anything. (insurance gave us a new seat,of course).

ChocOrange05 · 30/09/2008 16:45

Merry is right - the Easybase doesn't have any extra safety benefit but it is an easy way to clip the seat in - hence the price difference £65 vs £100 for the isofix base.
