Brand new thread ladies!

OP posts:

Next, Dorothy Perkins and Peacocks all do maternity clothes (in descending order of price). Only really bought trousers so far, as it is my lower half that seems to have got so much bigger already and have a pair for work from both DP and Next, and some relaxing slouchy ones from Peacocks. Hadn't noticed maternity stuff in New Look yet - but they may only be larger stores.

As for feeling movement, I am never quite sure if I am feeling the baby or its my tummy moving. And being a first timer I am not sure I will be convinced until it is a proper kick or punch!

MKG · 24/09/2008 12:53

Hi ladies. My appointment was fine yesterday. The ob/gyn was an hour late because her surgery was delayed, but I was ok with it because it let me read in the peace and quiet of the waiting room. When she came in she was so apologetic, I told her that I have two toddlers at home, and that it was the most peace and quiet I've had in a while. She was very nice, and we had a good laugh.

I had the AFP bloods done, so that is out of the way, and I still haven't gained any weight. (hallelujah) My 20 week scan is October 21st and I can't wait. I'll be exactly 20 weeks then, so it will be very exciting.

broodymom · 24/09/2008 13:38

Hi all can you take me from the list i am going over to the April thread as my due date has changed to April. Good luck everyone x

livismum · 24/09/2008 14:34

Hi guys i too am having to get some mat clothes in as i am struggling more everyday to find stuff that fits!

Do excuse me if this sound like an advert but i work for Next and laweaselmys they start at size 6 and captainkarvol they come in a longer leg length too!

I am biased as i get 75% off uniform so its much more affordable but it washes well and i had loads od wear out of a few peices last time that friends have borrowed and ill use again this time! The Next Clearance stores are good to pick up bargains!

Ok Ok advert over! am def feeling flutters which is lovely, feel so sorry for those of u still waiting for scans and test results, take care everyone xx

MKG · 24/09/2008 14:38

I'm in my maternity jeans and they fall down all the time. They are so comfortable though, but when I walk I put my hand in the pocket to hold them up. I will look for a new pair today after my haircut.

emma2617 · 24/09/2008 14:48

Hellooo ladies!! I too am having clothing issues!!!

I have a pair of maternity jeans which are mega comfortable, but I went shopping at the weekend for some work trousers as the ones i have dont fasten and I have to tuck them into my underwear to hold them up!!! But I had a strop in the Trafford Centre because I went in New Look, H&M, Dorothy Perkins, even Evans and I couldnt find anything that I liked and fit properly I am usually a 16, tried on an 18 in maternity and they only just fit round my belly...NO room for expansion!

Sorry rant over...and suggestions for reasonably priced work maternity clothes would be much appreciated!

laweaselmys · 24/09/2008 19:28

I just looked at Next but unfortunately they don't have any tops I can wear as uniform. (I have to wear plain bright pink tops!! Which is really awkward already.) I might get some trousers from there though, as I do like the cut of theirs...

Ad successful! Well done.

Slickbird · 24/09/2008 20:51

I'm 17 and a half weeks and I am starting to get noticable kicks and patterns to it. Esp after chocolate! Good excuse to eat some!

I hate buying mat clothes new, cos I know I'll only have them for such a short time. I have a few things from last year, but I borrowed so much stuff and gave it back. My friend just gave me some clothes to borrow tho, so hopefully some of them will fit. I did get a couple of things in H&M the other day, which seem comfy enough.

Am so dog tired at the moment. I could barely walk to work today. (only between the train station and work!!) And still feeling sick Anyone else the same?

AnathemaDevice · 24/09/2008 21:32

Slickbird, I'm still stupidly tired, but I am 2 1/2 weeks behind you. I hope it wears off soon, I'm supposed to be blooming by now, damnit!
Think I've felt kicks this evening, but as I have no idea what they're supposed to feel like I don't know if it's just wishful thinking.
I'm going to have a look in Peacocks at the weekend for maternity clothes, hoping I can find some that aren't black, grey or white, like they seem to be everywhere else!

MKG · 24/09/2008 23:02

I'm not expecting to feel movements for a while. I didn't feel the boys until after 20 weeks. Even then there was never any regularity to it. Most days I didn't feel anything at all. Yesterday the doctor had a hard time following the baby's heartbeat because it was moving around so much.

I always wanted to be one of those women that could see a foot. My sil could see my nephew's foot move across her belly when she was pregnant and I had a friend that used to wear fitted maternity tops and when the baby kicked her top would move. I've always been very of people who experience that.

lollipopz · 25/09/2008 10:22

Still experiencing bone crushing tiredness here too!
Ooh MKG don't be jealous I had this with my ds he was so so active my top would move about but I had really painful ribs cos he kept kicking them! lol
6 days till scan! woop woop! xx

just popping in again (I keep a watch on you all, but am holding off posting much till after the amnio).

Had my nhs dating scan and that made me cry a lot. I just want to be able to enjoy being pregnant instead of having the worry about what might happen.

2 weeks till the amnio - then another week till results. Time is crawling

Virtual hug to mandy.

Lovely to hear everyopne's stories though

emma2617 · 25/09/2008 11:00

meep glad your staying strong! Cant believe you still have 3 weeks to wait though!

For anyone else suffering tiredness/exhaustion - has this made you generally run down and more susceptible to infection?! I currently feel like crap and have a chest infection and an ear infection as well as a head cold!!! I am putting this all down to being run down!

Hope everyone is doing good this morning!!!

MKG · 25/09/2008 12:04

emma--Being pregnant I think in general makes you more likely to be sick, but you know what's funny. When I was breastfeeding ds2 I was sick all the time. It was 7 months of cold, after cold, mastistis, cold. As soon as I stopped I didn't get sick anymore.

HopingCat · 25/09/2008 12:28

Hi all. I've not managed to keep up with this thread so apologies for not having read the last 7 pages before posting. I had a 'Fit for pregnancy' class at local hospital last week, run by a physio who specialises in looking after pregnant women. It was really good. If you get offered anything similar I'd recommend going. They talked about preventing back and pelvic pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, leg cramps and pelvic floor exercises (which I've found from unfortunate experience are essential if you don't want to wet yourself when you sneeze!) Lots of useful advice.

I've been feeling baby move for a couple of weeks now, but would not have noticed it if I hadn't had DD. I didn't feel her move til after 20 weeks.

Maternity clothes - I've bought jeans and trousers from New Look this week and I love them. Other stuff I am getting off ebay.

HC

CaptainKarvol · 25/09/2008 13:22

I've had my scan At last! One squirming baby, beating heart, kicking legs

Did anyone else have their due date moved after the scan?

Mine has been brought forward a week - from the 21st to the 15th March. All very nice to be a week 'further on', except that I know I'm not! We were ttc for a year, and there is no way I conceived a week earlier than I thought. They did this with DS as well, and he arrived on what I thought was his due date, but a week over by the scan date. It only matters if I go well over the date, but it's a bit odd.

I've been told I have to have my blood pressure checked every week from 28 weeks onwards too, as I had pre-eclampsia last time. Boo. But better safe than sorry I suppose.

Right, I guess I can shop for maternity clothes now I've been convinced this isn't all just something I've been imagining!

***
meep and mandy, still thinking of you both. This waiting must be exhausing and so stressful. I hope you're both ok.

emma2617 · 25/09/2008 13:35

captain how exciting!!! baby must have been very active at nearly 16 weeks! Glad all went well...go forth and shop!!!!!Bambino was more like a flopping fish at my dating scan as had it at 10+3 (as doc reckoned I was 12 weeks! So my due date moved by almost 2 weeks, but I think the new one is much closer to the true date!

MKG Glad its not just me!! Normally I would take time off work sick if I felt this bad, but because I felt it was due to pregnancy I felt like I ought to battle on...after talking with my mum this also seems to be a symptom of pregnancy...thinking you should be able to take on anything!!!

Slickbird · 25/09/2008 13:59

Captain - the exact same thing happened with me with the dates this time and last time. I am going with the new date, but I have it in my head that it could well be a week later before the baby comes.

I had to take today off work, my constant cold has gotten worse and am just so exhausted I could hardly stand up. I still had to drive 10 miles to put DD2 in nursery and then go get her at lunch time, but I could just sleep all day. MKG & Emma, I'm the same, I'm terrible for pushing myself and not wanting to take time off work cos I don't want to let work down but I also have two kids, so I'm finding I'm up at 6.30 and on the go constantly til 8pm and that's only cos I fall onto the couch and DH does the rest! It's really taking its told -esp working everyday (even tho PT - have the kids the rest of the time) as I have quite a bit of travelling to do. I have to speak to my boss next week and see if I can condense my hours somehow, because I just don't feel like I can do this much longer without doing some serious harm. . No-one said it was gonna be easy. Hope the rest of you are feeling well.

Slickbird · 25/09/2008 14:01

Sorry, it's taking its toll, not told. (see?!)

MKG · 25/09/2008 15:26

Captain--Congratulations!!

I'm the same as you slickbird. I work 30 hours a week, but in my spare time, I'm cooking, cleaning, running around after a 3 year old and 16 month old. Even on my "day off" I'm still running around like mad. It's sad when I look forward to the hour wait at the doctor or the car breaking down (like it did tuesday afternoon) so I can sit in quiet and read a book. I'm up at 6:30 every morning and don't lay down until around 10pm most nights, and although I feel more energy than I did two weeks ago, I'm still exhausted.

happypingu · 25/09/2008 16:44

WOW! I have only just noticed this group!
My due date is 31st March '09, we both want to know what our little darling will be and cant wait to find out - although we both (and his parents) seem to think it is a 'he'
Has anyone noticed how difficult it is to buy neutral clothes? They are either boys or girls!

laweaselmys · 25/09/2008 19:21

Loads of the supposedly neutral stuff is grey which I find quite blurgh. I don't want to dress a newborn in grey!!

I also had my scan today, it was so exciting! DP was there too which was really nice (since he hasn't heard the heart beat) and you can see so much! Little feet kicking around... you could see the valves in the heart working as well. The definition on the face was amazing too you could see the nose, mouth and lips really clearly!

I've signed up for a research project at the hospital as well, which means I get four scans in total this one, one at 20, one at 28 and one at 36wks. I'm really looking forward to them! As I understood it the project is trying to pinpoint every genetically passed on condition. So they use me and DP's DNA, Jr's placenta once he's born, and the scans to develop new screening techniques for genetic problems.

HopingCat · 25/09/2008 22:01

Has everyone had their first scan now then? I hope so, as soon there will be people on here who've already had their second scan and know if they are having a boy or girl. We aren't going to find out, but I know that towards the end I'll wish I knew. It felt quite impersonal last time, referring to the squirming, enormous baby inside me as 'it'. I felt like I knew it so well, so not knowing it's gender was a bit odd. Was even stranger when I had a girl after being convinced she was a boy!
