Hello, I've been away for ages and have just read through the last seven pages so some of these replies are to posts that were ages ago!

  • maternity clothes: Topshop is good, the only place I've found that assumes you want to wear things in colours other than grey, white and black. The jeans fit really well, though I'm a bit dubious that they will still fit at eight months as they are quite snug. At least still vaguely flattering! Isabella Olivier has gorgeous, gorgeous stuff, but its expensive. Also seems to assume you are taller than me (I'm 5'2" on a good day) so the tops come quite a long way down my legs. Blooming Marvellous have really nice soft trousers, though their tailored ones make me look like a potato
  • movement: everyone told me it felt like fluttering, and I haven't felt any fluttering. Finally someone at work said it feels like bubbles popping and I realised I've been able to feel baby for the last week (I'm seventeen and a half weeks now)
  • finding out: they told me at my 12 week scan, which I didn't think was possible. (think its a girl) Apparently they have a new way of looking at bone formation in the pelvis which is 70% accurate at 12 weeks
  • morning sickness: finally calmed down at fifteen weeks - HOORAY!!
MKG · 26/09/2008 13:05

spotty, don't believe the 12 week scan I was told at 12 weeks that the ds2 was going to be a girl, so I went to the 20 week scan absolutely sure (having bought dresses already). Well I was shocked when they told me he was a boy.

jollyjoanne · 26/09/2008 13:29

I've already had 2 scans (what was thought to be 12 weeks - then thought to be nearer 10, and one at the second attempt at 12 weeks then thought to be about 13wks - arggh) - and the due still isn't exact so I've gone with the most recent scan with the proviso that it could be approx 2 weeks either way!.

My fault for not having the normal 28 day periods! And for having a big but slowly developing baby.

Hopefully at the 20 week (or somewhere between 18 and 22 wk) scan they may have more idea - role on 14th October.

emma2617 · 26/09/2008 13:58

Good day ladies!!! Anyone else gone in for euromillions tonight?! Im hoping to become a multimillionaire and not have to worry about maternity pay etc...haha...wishful thinking!!

I know all I seem to do is ask questions...and I have bought a book to help answer them, but I do have another if anyone can help!! I know ligament pain etc is painful, but I thought it was meant to be short and sharp when you cough/get up etc?! I am getting a lot of pain in the womb area, especially at night and I just cant get comfortable. Laying flat hurts, curling up hurts and its really getting me down as I cant sleep! Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to help the situation?

SpringBlossom · 26/09/2008 14:14

Can I get added to the list for EDD? I am due 25th March 2009, our first. I am ancient and HUGE. In addition to baby I have a fibroid that measures 18cm... I look 6+ months pregnant. I can't begin to imagine what I'm going to look like in six months time...

SpringBlossom · 26/09/2008 14:15

Perhaps I should have said I FEEL ancient rather than I am ancient.. I'm actually 39 although I feel about 65...

lollipopz · 26/09/2008 14:49

Emma I think it is probably just stretching i have had really sore pains in my side for last 2 nights and had to get up, but I remember them from before so figure they are normal, but still sore, however if you are worried I would mention to the midwife thats what she's there for!
Lx

Slickbird · 26/09/2008 14:51

Welcome HappyPingu and Springblossom! We always like fresh blood in this group! (not that we're vampires or anything...) It's turning into quite a big March group! The tele must have been crap in June eh?

Spring - I'm sorry to hear you have a fibroid. Real bummer. My friend had one of them and it ended up fighting for space with the baby! I hope it doesn't give you any grief.

Emma - The aches and pains in your uterus area can be pretty strong and severe sometimes when your baby grows. Does it feel by any chance that it is in your pubic bone? I get that and it is SPD (Symphis Pubis Disfunction). Sometimes it can be damn sore and throb away, and it has kept me awake at nights -esp with last pregnancy. You may also notice it when you lift your leg to put trousers on? Or trying to turn over in your sleep. It can start very early and in that instance is usually hormonal. It's basically the pubic bone separating slightly and the ligaments are under strain. If it sounds like that, it is worth seeing a physio to minimise it during the pregnancy. If it doesn't sound like that, it may just be your baby growing. (Or both!)

emma2617 · 26/09/2008 15:07

lollipopz I would ask the midwife, but I dont have a contact number for them (the team in the new area i have moved to seem to be less than useless!!) Might do some detective work and see if I can get a number!!

Slickbird I haven't been paying that much attention to the pain...more trying to ignore it!! I will try and see if I can identify it a little more this weekend...thanks for the heads up!

spottycat · 26/09/2008 15:14

MKG, thanks for that. You are the only other person I've come across who has been told anything at the 12 week scan. Maybe I'll hold off painting the nursery pink for a little bit longer!

SpringBlossom · 26/09/2008 15:41

Dear Slickbird, when you say that the fibroid ended up fighting withe baby for space please please please tell me that the baby came out on top and all had a happy ending... Please lie even if this isn't the case as I am so anxious at the moment about what is going to happen... I wonder if there's a fibroid thread on this thing? I just got my first baby book in the post and I burst out laughing when I saw the piccie of the pregnant woman at 14 weeks - I WISH I LOOKED LIKE THAT!!!!!!! SpringB

lollipopz · 26/09/2008 16:48

Spotty: They did this with me at 11 weeks with ds told me she "would put money on it being a boy"! I was sceptical so paid for a sexing scan at 20 weeks and she had been right, I wouldn't go buying pink just yet though just check at 20 week scan! L x

AnathemaDevice · 26/09/2008 19:52

Slickbird, I don't know about the telly being crap in June, but I know that I was at Glastonbury, and we had to find a way of keeping warm in the tent at night....

FlannelCat · 26/09/2008 20:47

Hi

Hallelujah, I finally pretty much got rid of my morning sickness - but have now developed serious lower back pain, really sharp twinges that make me waddle when I walk. I also had some very light spotting yesterday, so went this morning to the Early Pregnancy Unit at the hospital as was worried that it was a miscarriage, but the midwife was happily able to hear the baby's heartbeat. Anyway, my question is does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with the back pain and has anyone tried acupuncture for this?

Emma - yes I have been having loads of abdominal twinges too.

titmouse · 27/09/2008 08:23

aww I've been dropped from the list, is that cos I haven't posted here much

SpringBlossom · 27/09/2008 08:42

Flannelcat,

I haven't tried acupuncture for back pain but I have tried it for both stress (it's been a very difficult 14+2 weeks!) and nausea and it has been brilliant for both. I would recommend finding an acupuncturist who is experienced with pregnancy (I'm lucky - there's an acupuncture unit at my hospital). I really can't recommend it enough - the acupuncture team who have helped me, have at times, really been responsible for me maintaining my sanity... and have made a lot of my physical symptoms better. SB

MKG · 27/09/2008 12:42

Emma-- I don't have any front pain, but when I wake up every morning I have the worst lower back pain. It doesn't matter how I sleep.

Spring blossom--Welcome! A friend of mine just had a baby in July and had a large fibroid. She had to have a C-section (repeat), with three different surgeons, and there was a big possibility of hysterectomy. During her pregnancy she went to a lot of scans to determine the position of the fibroid vs the baby. There was a lot of talk of early delivery in case the fibroid started getting dangerous. In the the end she was fine, and her surgery was long, but uneventful.

Wheelybug · 27/09/2008 13:32

Hi All - sorry haven't been around for weeks but DH has just got out of hospital after 3 weeks. He had apretty nasty time of it as it turned out he'd developed a condition where by his immune system does funny things and makes inflammation in various places. This got particularly worrying when it went to his brain. He's now having to relearn a lot of things (like walking) and will be off work for about 3 months. Yikes. All a bit scarey but hopefully he's on the up now.

That pretty much means I have now got to 16 weeks without realising it and not having much time to worry about whats going on in my tummy. I am so huge - people keep asking when its due and trying to hide their surprise at March ! Thankfully though its all out the front and I think its because I am a midget. Have developed hip pain which seems to be alleviated if I sleep with a pillow between my knees. Was still being sick up to 2 days ago but haven't for 2 days - I was not expecting it to go whilst I was so worried about DH and dashing here there and everywhere so am hoping now DH is home it might be settling.

Hope everyone is doing ok - Sorry Meep and Mandy still don't have any clearer news. Hope the time isn't dragging too much although suspect it is.

Will try and keep up from now on !!

Slickbird · 27/09/2008 14:45

Wheelybug, My God, that sounds awful! Let's hope he makes a full recovery soon. This must be a really hard time for you both.

Spring, Sorry, I didn't mean to freak you out!! My friend was absolutely fine and her baby has just had his 2nd Birthday. It was more uncomfortable for her, and they couldn't remeove it because I think it was maybe linked to a main(ish) artery and didn't want to risk it. She did have a long labour but I don't think it was to do with the fibroid. I had two long labours and I don't have one! I don't know about MKG's friend tho. Maybe it all varies. I'm sure you'll be fine and I'm sure your bambino will be too. xx

Yes, my back is giving me grief too, especially lifting my one year old all the time. I'm so desparate to get her to walk!!

Auntyspan How do we get titmouse back on the list?

Ana - Aww, how nice! A festy baby!

thanks TFF! Still here and lurking!

Slickbird I have a nearly 15mo and she still isn't walking!!! Once I can (hopefully) tell everyone I am pregnant, her nursery will be under strict instructions to make her walk everywhere - but she knows her own mind so I am sure she will do it when she wants to and not when I want her to! keeping my fingers crossed that she is fully proficient by March though!

Wheelybug - your poor dh and poor you. What a worry for you.

To make you feel better i am also huge and even my lovely line in baggy cardigans are not disguising much. My preg jeans are a must now!

AnathemaDevice you will have the coolest child ever - if they realise they were conceived at Glastonbury !

laweaselmys · 28/09/2008 12:08

For everyone still looking for maternity clothes and shopping online phobic like me, I took a trip to Regent Street yesterday and the H&M there has quite a big department (with not just jeans!!) and they are also selling the belly bands (one black and one white for ten pounds). I couldn't find anything small enough for me (boo) but I got some bands and reckon they will be very useful, and cheaper in the long run than loads of new clothes anyway.

My EDD also went back one day after my scan which confirms they were indeed conceived in a haze of tequila after my work leaving do!! Oh dear. Not a great family story!

laweasel I might have to try find a big H&M as eveywhere I've looked has been mainly jogging bottoms, cargo pants and jeans, it gets me very annoyed!!

As for me...I felt baby move properly yesterday, not fluttering or popping but proper pressure, but today its back to popping

Hope everyone is well!

Sara333 · 28/09/2008 17:43

Can you add me to the list? I'm due on 16th March. Am 35 and have DS aged 6 and DD aged 4.
Have a huge belly already and am still feeling sick, the sickness ended at around 14 weeks in my other pregnancies and am wondering whether it will ever end this time around!
