Just a quick hello as work is crazy busy (can't complain though - life of a freelancer).

Meep I can't believe you've been in heels this long! I'm waddling away happily since last week or so.

Love to everyone, hope you are all well.
xx

emma2617 · 13/11/2008 17:37

meep ....heels?! What are they?! Haha!

I have been sent home from work and told to take tomorrow as compassionate leave! My old manager (who I am close with but recently got a promotion)saw me crying again today and made me tell her what was wrong, despite it taking 45 mins as I was crying so hard again!!

She said that although she felt it was partially down to hormones and worrying about my mum, we would talk on Monday to decide on a plan for work people and that the stress wasnt good for me or baby so to just relax and enjoy the weekend! So here's to trying that!!

goldmother2b · 13/11/2008 17:54

emma glad to hear that work are being supportive and giving you some much needed time off. Have you mentioned to your midwife how down you are feeling? My pregnancy week by week book had a section this week about pregnancy related depression, and although not as common as postnatal, just as much as a nightmare...

My pelvic support belt arrived this afternoon, and already I'm feeling some relief from the PGP - I got it from a physio website and cleared it with the very nice and understanding lady GP that I saw this morning. Fingers crossed I will be fit enough to pick up a duster this weekend as my house seems to be degenerating into a complete tip as I laze around on the sofa / bed!

Definately waddling, and have forgotten what heels look like - they are out of the question with the PGP (as is walking....)

meep · 13/11/2008 19:09

I find it really hard to give up heels because I am so wee (5foot) and it is the only way to stop my trousers dragging along the ground !

Saying that they only come out at weekends if I'm out somewhere nice - it is flats for work and the rest of the time.

With dd it was the height of summer and my ankles had swollen up so much that I looked like a baby elephant from the knees down (not attractive - my dh was horrified) and I had to wear velcro sandals which were just hanging on by the last bit of velcro. They were very comfy, but a wee bit stinky by teh end of the summer!

Emma your old manager sounds very sensible - go and put your feet up!

laweaselmys · 13/11/2008 19:22

I work with 4 year old kids, my heels are in an unopened box under my bed!

My vans however are very comfy. Skate shoes seem to be the awesome solution to pregnancy uncomfyness!

lollipopz · 13/11/2008 19:33

Hey all had 20 week check today, dont get a scan gere , any way heard baby's wee heart and doc thinks I am measuring small so have to go back next week.
xx xx

Wheelybug · 13/11/2008 19:41

hi All

Just popping in to say hi. Not much to report here.

Meep - with dd I didn't give up heels until 35 weeks (am 5 foot too). This time round I've hardly worn them but that's because I am a SAHM with dodgy hips.

Emma - sorry work isn't going ok. Try not to worry about the stress hurting the baby. I have had much more external stress this time round and baby is (so far, touch wood etc) doing better than first time round. But I agree about antenatal depression - I think there used to be a thread on here somewhere about it. Try searching.

lizziemun · 13/11/2008 21:28

laweaselmys/meep

the only heels i come into contact with are the one i walk up .

Emma

make the most of the rest over the next few days.

livismum · 14/11/2008 08:59

Hi all, its so nice to hear we are all going through similar things even if they r rubbish!

My problems at work are because 8 womem went on mat leave in last year so everyone has run out of sympathy! we are getting so busy now and i have to really keep on to get more support, was going to try and work till mid feb so ill get next xmas off with some pay, but i might threaten to go asap and leave them in lurch ha ha ha!

I wore heels out on sat night without even thinking about it and could hardly walk on sun! i was hobbling round like an old lady! my calves were killing! my friend helpfully pointed out im not as young as i was last time, ive only gone from 24 to 28!

Mandy73 · 14/11/2008 11:23

Hi everyone,

lollipopz sorry you didn't get a scan . Don't worry about the measures, I'm sure you'll be fine.
xx

lollipopz · 14/11/2008 12:28

Thanks Mandy

Doc said I felt 18/19 weeks and I am 21 so want to check growth, but tbh I am not worrying too much heart beat was strong amd getting plenty kicks! If she is still concerned over next few weeks she will send me for a scan.
This happened with dd2 and she was fine!
x

jollyjoanne · 14/11/2008 12:49

I've been waddling and avaoiding heels for ages now. I think the waddling just gets worse as time goes on. And I've started that slightly weird pregnant lady thing of rubbing my tummy whenever I am stood still for a while. (Like I need a reminder that it is there or something? - I know I am going mad)

Sorry to hear that work are not being supportive for everyone. That must be rubbish, myself and a colleague are pregnant so we are supporting each other. Although our boss is nice enough anyway.

AmyO · 14/11/2008 13:49

LOL jolly joanne! I do the tummy rubbing thing too! you're not going mad, or if you are then you're in good company

Blimey, it seems everyone is having a tough time at work. I think I'm ready for mat leave now to be honest, I just don't really care about work anymore. Spent an hour on the phone to a call centre this morning (sth personal for my boss), got put through to a different dept every time and then got cut off and had to call again. Arrgghhh! Felt like throwing the phone out of the window!

Ah well, TGIF eh?!

Slickbird · 14/11/2008 13:51

Yeah my heels have been in the cupboard for a long time now and I have to say, I do miss them, only because I feel constantly frumpy - as I mentioned before, I really get lazy in the making an effort department when I'm pregnant as I feel like I'm trying to polish a turd....

Cold is still crap, but think it may be finally starting to turn today - I called my manager today to say that I wouldn't be back in next week and she was as ever, great about it, I'm so lucky, especially as I know Emma's having a shit time. I had an awful time with my last employer when I was PG and despite the stress, DD2 came out fighting fit, so much so we call her Popeye sometimes, so try not to worry about that side of things Emma - Maybe you could be signed off for a while cos it can all get a bit much. Trying to carry on as normal whilst PG is no easy task.

As for CHOCOLATE I am thinking of calling this next one 'Crunchie' I've been eating so much. I got tonnes for my birthday, but the worst of it is I can't bloody taste it with this sodding cold. BUT IT IS NOT STOPPING ME EATING IT!!! WHAT IS THE POINT??

Sigh. Happy Friday everyone!

auntyspan · 14/11/2008 16:13

I'm a total chocolate addict too.. this afternoon I've had an aero and a bag of tootie fruities as well as a slice of black forest gateau for lunch... yummm

never mind water retention, I think I"ve got chocolate retention!

ceedub · 14/11/2008 16:49

Hi everyone, need some advice,

had some bleeding today (am 24+3) and had to race into the hospital for a scan. all very frightening, especially as it brought back all the horrible memories of the mc in january. But the heartbest was fine, and examination showed it to be a 'cervical ectropion' - basically, sensitive cells near the cervix (outside the uterus) which are swollen due to the pregnancy, have been irritated and have bled. no danger to our bean or to me. But I have been told to avoid sex and constipation (like I'd be doing anything else with the latter!) and to contact them if there's any more bleeding.

Here's the immediate problem. While dp and i are obviously massively relieved that it's not as serious as we feared (and the doctor had too - I had to take an overnight bag as they were planning to admit me), how seriously should we treat it now? We're meant to be going on holiday on Monday for a week to the Canary islands...we immediately thought we should cancel, but looking at the descriptions of this kind of bleeding online, which all say it is harmless, are we overreacting?

doesn't help that it might not be seen as serious enough by our travel insurance providers to compensate the 100% cancellation.

What would others do?

Wheelybug · 14/11/2008 16:57

How worrying Ceedub. Glad all is ok - don't know what to say about your holiday. I am sure it would be ok but its nerve wracking being away from home. We went away when I was between 7-9 weeks pregnant after a previous m/c at 7 weeks and I was counting down the days the whole time although, on the other hand, it was nice to be doing something different and to have DH on hand all that time to take my mind off it. A bit of sun would be nice ?!

Congrats on your boy Fruitynnutty !

All this talk of chocolate means I am going to wander off and raid the chocolate tin (supposed to be dd's 'treat' tin but I seem to partake more than she does at the moment !).

Have a good weekend everyone.

twocutedarlings · 14/11/2008 17:29

Hi Girls,

Ceebub - I would ring your insurance and tell them about the bleed to make sure that it wont effect your travel insurance, if it doesn't then i would go!! this is likely to be the last chance you get of an adult type holiday for years LOL .

auntyspan · 14/11/2008 22:24

ceedbub I'm sorry you've had such a worrying time. What a scare.

Did you midwife advise you on the trip?

Honestly, I'm not sure I'd go. I'd get your GP to write a letter to the travel company saying you've been advised not to go for medical reasons - this may help with the money - and see if I could get a week somewhere in this country.

The Canary Islands aren't that far away, but it's the flying that would worry me, as you're in a pressurised environment, the main reason you're not advised to fly in the final trimester. That would be my instinct, but of course you make your own mind up. If you do go, chances are you'll be fine and the break might do you good

Not sure that's what you want to hear!

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 14/11/2008 22:42

Oh I think the flying's fine - You only can't fly in the last few weeks and that's only because the airlines don't want the risk of you going into labour. I have flown at various different stages and don't think its a problem (despite being paranoid about most things in pregnancy).

Hope everyone has a good weekend !

meep · 15/11/2008 08:02

Ceedub - that must have been so scary for you - am so glad it's all okay. One of the ladies on my postnatal board said that she had bleeds all teh way through her pregnancy and she now has a gorgeous 16mo dd.

What a dilema about your hol though. I would phone your mw and maybe try to have a chat with a consultant about it. It may be that some sun would chill you out?

I am a tummy rubber too! I try not to do it in public - but I always seem to do it when I'm waiting for/to get off the bus! Luckily the bump is now huge so I'm hopefully not scaring the general public too much.

My work is okay at the moment - have applied to go back full time from December which will hopefully ease my workload but it does mean that when the bean arrives I will have to work fulltime after my mat leave which makes me a bit sad.

titchy77 · 15/11/2008 08:41

Ceedub- I'm sorry to hear you had a scare, I'm sure flying would be fine and the break away will probably do you good.
I feel down the stairs at 6 am this morning , not sure why it happenened but went down with a thump, only bumped down about 5 stairs, feel o.k just have a huge bruise on my backside and my back is a bit sore...must be gravity playing tricks on me
Have a lovely weekened everyone!

Slickbird · 15/11/2008 10:55

Hey Ceedub I agree with Meep, I think it's worth calling your midwife if you can get a hold of her for a bit of advice. I don't think it sounds like too much to be concerned about, I'll try and speak to my friend who is an excellent midwife later, and see what she says. She's very good at giving practical advice. Will come back to you later.

Well today's weird ailment for me is a raging rash!! All over my legs and round my arms and a bit on my neck!!! WTF?? I don't know if it is my bed turning against me as I have been in it too much this week being ill or if I ate something. I'm not prone to rashes tho. I did double check with MW friend this morning and she said that if it was the PG liver related rash, it tends to be stomach, palms of hands and soles of feet, so that is a bit of relief, because that is the only places I don't have it! I merely pass this on to the rest of you in case any of you experience the same. I think I'll get some calamine lotion later. Oh to be normal again! Happy Saturday all!

Slickbird · 15/11/2008 10:58

PS - Ceedub Dried apricots are great at keeping constipation at bay. But you may already know that!
