Brand new thread ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CS7 · 22/10/2008 16:09

I know the feeling emma. I'm normally like that and also DH is champing at the bits to start buying stuff. But we lost our first baby in April this year (His kidneys didn't develop)at 18 weeks and that has cooled my shopping ardour. But as sure as a 'SALES' sign is a red flag to my bull, I'll be in there in January grabbing bargains whichever way you please

babbintot i'm looking forward to the pillow.. all the pics i've seen of it makes it look quite appealing- like going to bed with a squishy teddy...

lizziemun · 22/10/2008 17:02

Just popping quickly to say had 20wk scan today (hospital don't tell you the sex) and everything ok.

Been a busy week as dd2 now has chicken pox .

Millie26 · 22/10/2008 17:03

Oh my goodness - how organised is everyone on here?! You are all amazing.

I barely feel pregnant at all. I'm 19 wks, got my scan on Friday but havent really felt it move and havent even thought about antenatal classes or names or clothes or nurserys or anything

Am far too worried that soemthing will be wrong on Friday to get excited.

Really should stop googling 'baby moving 19 weeks' and 'quickening pregnancy no movements' and just relax!

Have got doppler and can hear heartbeat so I know he/she is still in there - maybe it's because it's our first?

V happy for everyone who have had their scan - making me feel better about mine too so thank you. xx

Wheelybug · 22/10/2008 17:10

Glad there is more good scan news !

Millie - don't worry about the movement thing esp. as its your first. I clearly remember my brother telling me I wouldn't feel any movement until well over 20 weeks because his wife hadn't (he's a bit like that !). I did actually feel dd at about 18 weeks but my neice was fine too !

You lot are organised. I don't really have anything to buy except probably a sling I think and a bouncy chair as I gave dd's away as she didn't like. Although am hoping to get someone to give/loan me a chair. That said, we do have to dig some bits out of the shed where they have been stored and check they haven't gone mouldy/been eaten by the various wildlife in our garden etc. Otherwise we could be buying a lot ! M

y dd was due right at the beginning of Feb and we didn't go and order anything until just after Christmas and it was only then because her growth was slow so we were on warning she might have to come out early. Having said that though, we didn't have a cot when she arrived (but that was due to Mama's and Papa's cock up rather than our disorganisation !!) and the other nursery furniture hadn't been put together (she was 3 weeks early). I had spent a lot of time on research though before that (AKA window shopping !!).

MKGisHavingaGirl · 22/10/2008 18:30

Millie,

Don't worry about movement. There is no normal rate of movement. At 20 weeks I think I've felt the baby move, but nothing definite. But then with the boys I almost never felt anything. You will feel what is normal for you.

STOP GOOGLING!!!

Slickbird · 22/10/2008 21:55

Millie - I agree with the others. My friend who's a midwife, didn't feel any movement til 22 weeks and I thought she might know what to look for but it doesn't work like that! You've probably felt it and not realised what it is. It's something that becomes easier to detect the more you have. Sure everything will be fine.

Re: Sleeping, my sleeping is totally crap at the moment,I mean, I've always suffered from insomnia anyway, but at the moment I think my hormones are starting to keep me awake (always did the week before my period was due so I know hormones can do that) also, very weirdly, I often get like this when there is a change of season, and also in the run up to my birthday. (Certainly not because of excitement anymore!!) Of course, DD2 waking up 3 times a night to find her dummy really doesn't help as then it takes me an age to get back to sleep. Anyhoo, I recommend those body pillows, I got one with my first pregnancy and am about to get it out again.

Beats cuddling up to your snoring, farting DH!

Boobz · 22/10/2008 22:13

Have decided that weird wringing feeling in my tummy is the baby, which means I have been feeling it since 17 weeks ish, which makes me feel better. No actual kicks or prods yet though.

Am off to bed as managed to stay up til past 1 last night reading pointless AIBU threads on here. How do I get so sucked in? Why do I find it all so facinating? Must put "get a life" at the top of my list of things to do tomorrow.

meep · 23/10/2008 08:54

babbintot - yup I am on the claimant side and I was fine until I got pregnaht and is now worse now that I have a child. But it is my job and it is interesting though very sad at times.
It wasn't any case that put me off a vaginal delivery - it was just a combination of things including my last labour! I did really well with a tens machine and gas & air and lasted on that for 2.5 days until I was 9cm. Then it all went wrong - ending in an emergency c-section. Can't remember much after the morpione and can't really remember the first few days of dd's life (was living in a very nice drug induced cloud of fluffiness!). So this time round I know that statistically I am likely to end up with another emergency section - and I want to know what I'm doing when this one is born and hopefully be able to establish brestfeeding. I did wonder if the fact that I know so much about the very rare scary stuff stopped my body moving things forward (I was the only one in my ante natal group who wanted her baby to be late ) - but it was probably more because dd was back to back and stuck. But I'm proud of myself for getting as far as I did and don't let my story put anyone off - I was fine and dd is fine and I have plenty of friend who only laboured for around 5 hours with their first ! I just didn't find the section itself difficult to recover from so I think it is the best option for me this time round.

Millie don't google - I didn't feel anything first time round until about 20/21 weeks - I'm just feeling things this time because I know what to look out for - otherwise I'd just think my tummy was being odd!

Heard the bean's heartbest yesterday - made me very smiley! But I now have horrendously bruised arms from botched attempts to get blood out of me - ouch! I have to go back today and see the blood taking specialist person - sigh!

I hadn't thought about the January sales - whoo hoo - I'd better start saving my pennies!

Millie26 · 23/10/2008 10:05

Aw thanks guys, I could actually feel stress leaving my body reading your replies

Must stop being so paranoid - scan is tomorrow and come round really quickly as I hoped so will let you know what happens.

ahahaha, boobz I can empathise!

Hope everyone is having a nice day - nearly the weekend woo hoo.

LaMonsterWeaselwolf · 23/10/2008 11:48

Lameness has occurred today. Got all excited about my 20wk scan today only to get to the hospital and have them tell me there had been a mistake and it's next thursday!! They couldn't do it then because they were fully booked and it would have been a bit early for me anyway (am 19wks today)

So I'm pretty disappointed to be honest. It's not their fault, but I was really enjoying the idea of finding out the flavour and checking on junior so to be sent back home again was really upsetting.

Oh well. Did a bit of early christmas shopping to cheer myself up!

Slickbird · 23/10/2008 12:33

Oh, boo hiss LaMonster! It's difficult because you do psych yourself up eh? Oh well, hang in there.

I had to take DD2 to doctors this morning as when I'd taken her to the hopsital (out of hours) a few weeks ago with an infected sore on her leg, I'd got a cream, but things weren't clearing and worse there were other blister patches appearing on her other leg. Turns out she's got impetigo so I had to get her antibiotics and she has to take them four times a day for 7 days which is already proving difficult as she totally spat the last lot out. Oh dear, this does not bode well......

Also it's really contagious so I have to keep her off nursery til it clears, wash all our towels and try and stop the rest of us getting it. It seems to be one thing after the other with the wee munchin.

lollipopz · 23/10/2008 12:34

Hey every one glad all the scans are going great and flavours are being found out! We don't get 20 week scan here, paid 80 for it when preg with ds to find out sex, but just opting for surprise this time!
About names all 3 of our dcs have 4 letter names so have decided this one will too! Bit wierd I know but don't think a long name would fit in IYKWIM ! like a few girls names but cannot come up with any boys ones at all so any suggestions greatly appreciated!

DS going into hosp tomorrow for an op on his neck, i've been bricking it a bit but dh has just phoned and told me to get a grip as he is a tough cookie like his dad! Well at the mo he is still my baby (22 months) so I will worry if I like!
((hugs)) to u laweasel thars a crap thing to happen!

emma2617 · 23/10/2008 13:30

laweasel I had a similar scare when i went for my scan...they said i wasnt booked for a scan, fortunately i had my letter which said i would have a scan, and the fact i was 20wks the next day they squeezed me in...but i really felt like crying!

slickbird hope the impetigo clears up, Its not nice. I used to have it on my face as a child.

lollipopz I hope you told you DH that are entitled to worry if you want!! I dont blame you! Although I am positive he will be fine...kids always seem to battle on like little troopers!!

As for me...this cold I have had for over 4 weeks now still doesnt look like shifting!! But I am going to fight on and go shopping on saturday! Going to squeeze in Ikea, Mothercare, Babies 'R Us, Cheshire Outlet Mall and possibly anywhere else I can think of as we go!!

Slickbird · 23/10/2008 14:16

Lollipopz What's the op for? I'd be the same, it's always hard when it's your bubba no matter what the age. I was beside myself when my DD1 (7) went to have her tongue tie cut, because she had to have a general anaesthetic. She was absolutely fine, but it's natural for a mother to worry isn't it? I'll be thinking of you tomorrow so let us know how the wee one gets on. xx

Thanks Emma It is more common on the face aparently, but yes, let's hope it goes soon.

The cold you mention, could be like what I've got, and it's not really a cold - but because you have lots more blood in your system, the nose gets bunged up because all the capillaries and vessels increase in size to cope with the increase blood flow. You may (like me) have it until bambino's born. Worth mentioning to MW, I did this morning but she said there's not much you can really do about it unless it's totally debilitating. Other than that, she just recommended steam inhilations etc etc. If it's really bad the doctor might give you a nose spray but they have mild steroids in it, so it's maybe not great whilst preg. I don't know enough about it tho. That's just what I was told this morn.

lollipopz · 23/10/2008 15:59

Slick
Thanks think its the GA that is worrying me most neither of my dds have had ops so this is a first for me and think its magnifyed in my head by the fact that a friend of dds passed away at that hosp a few weeks ago I know i am being silly but i am still bricking it!
The op is to remove two very large glands from his neck and just behind his ear they have been there for over a year and he has been really sick and constant ear infections so they think the best bet is to remove them!
Re the impetigo i sympathise with you, dd1 gets it on her face when she is run down
L xx

babyinbelly · 23/10/2008 19:09

Hey all, haven't been on for a few days but wanted to let you all know that I felt the baby kick my hand for the first time this morning! Was quite exciting. Hopefully that means that DP will be able to feel it as well soon.

jollyjoanne · 23/10/2008 19:49

Emma - Mamas and Papas have a discount store on Cheshire Oaks, and the proper store on the bit where Destiny and Elite is. If you are interested.

Slick - I had impertigo as a kid and normally I just had a cream to put on - no nasty medicine for me - may be this is something to investigate if your dd doesn't appreciate the antibiotics.

Lolli - Sure everything will go fine with the little ones op. Not even a proper mum yet and I am already panicky about everything. Goodness knows what I'll be like once the baby is out. I think a little bit of panicking is perfectly justified given the situation.

emma2617 · 24/10/2008 08:37

oooh jolly the website said nothing about Mamas & Papas!! I will definately be popping in there!!

Boobz · 24/10/2008 09:19

Talking of Mamas and Papas -- I went to visit my rich friend yesterday in Wimbledon and she has got one of these for her newborn:

www.mamasandpapas.co.uk/product-joolz-hydra-pushchair-combination-with-pv-car-sea t/s0004682/type-s/

I know it's not really practical cos they grow out of it so quick, and it's stoooopid expenisive, but I loved it. Especially the colour. I just want one. But hubby would never let me spend that much money.

But I want one. I want that one.

emma2617 · 24/10/2008 09:38

boobz that is quite nice!! I have fallen in love with several prams...but we have settled on one that isnt too expensive (cosatto mobi)...well it £510 if you buy it in the shops...but £380 if you buy online! It comes with "PUSHCHAIR, CARRY COT, CAR SEAT, COOL CHANGING BAG, COSYTOES,
BOTTLE HOLDER, SUNSHADE, SPACIOUS BASKET, RAINCOVER, MOSQUITO NET AND TYRE PUMP"
you cant say no really!!

We are going to oreder just after xmas...for delivery to my mums until bambino arrives...its the only thing im supersticious about!!

AmyO · 24/10/2008 11:37

Wow Emma, £380 is v cheap for all that!

I dragged Dh to the Baby Show last weekend (he was v well-behaved I must say, bless him considering he was tired, hungry and surrounded by hundreds of small children and pregnant bellies!) and spent an extortionate amount of money on the STOKKE Xplory travel system. I just fell in love with it and it got such great reviews...
Being delivered in Jan so I have time to figure out how it works! Now wondering if 2 months is long enough with this pregnancy brain of mine

Anyone else thinking of getting the Stokke or know which pram they want?

boobz the Joolz hydra pushchair is lovely too, v chic! Couldn't you place a wanted ad/have a look on ebay to see if you get get a better price? Just an idea, there are some good bargains out there!

CS7 · 24/10/2008 11:47

Does anyone else feel the whole bump move on the inside? Not just prds or kicks but like the baby's doing a slow somersault???

Mandy73 · 24/10/2008 12:35

Hi everyone,
Methinks I'm going to need a PG winter coat soon . Growth spurt, hello.
Any ideas? Hoping for something cheap, A-shaped and not too heavy. That isn't too short. And no bloody 3/4 length sleeves! All the 'actual' maternity ones are so short, dull and expensive. Shall I take myself to Primark?

Mandy73 · 24/10/2008 12:36

PS: CS7 yes I get that 1 - 2 times an evening. Freaky but quite nice.

jollyjoanne · 24/10/2008 13:09

I have a tiny little car (a Daewoo Matiz) so even though I love all the travel system things they wouldn't fit into the car - making them a bit pointless, so we have just gone with a Graco one with a pushchair that the car seat goes on top of, when the baby is small.
