So happy to hear scans are going well!
Can't wait for our next one (3 nov) although we've already had four; the MC scare, the nuchal screening, the botched CVS and then the amnio...
Needless to say they were not enjoyable so really looking forward to this one although pretty nervous as well. It's hard to find a balance between not worrying and not taking anything for granted once you've been there.

I hope everyone's well. xx

CS7 · 21/10/2008 13:24

Hi Evereyone,

I'm 17 weeks and a bit at the moment.. When you go for your 20 week scan, do you have to ask to know what flavour? Also, will it be frowned upon?

Slickbird · 21/10/2008 14:12

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! We are v. happy. (Or did I mention that..??)

CS7 - Some hospitals will not tell you what the sex is (I think they don't like to commit themselves) but it varies from place to place as I understand it. I didn't find out with the first two but as we had to pay for this one and it was our third we decided to. It's worth checking the hospital policy before you go. If they are happy to tell you and you DON'T want to know, you have to tell them straight away. Good Luck.

CS7 · 21/10/2008 14:31

Thanks slickbird
DP & I are still uhming and ahhing over whether to find out...

Slickbird · 21/10/2008 15:36

Fearlessfreak - I was a little less sick with this one but only marginally, I think it wasn't quite so debilitating but it lasted just as long (am still queasy on times..) They do say that the sickness can be worse with girls and it really couldn't have got much worse with the last two, barr going to hospital to be re-hydrated. I would say the most noticable difference was that to start with I didn't have sore boobs and that's usually the first sign with me, and it actually took about 3months for them to get sore and bigger, so I guess there were different hormones being pumped out by the baby and that made me wonder. I've also had more energy this time, depite looking after a 1 year old, a 7 year old and working. I just hope the labour's easier this time!

Congrats to ceedub on a successful scan too. I'm sure the placenta will move up in time as your womb grows.

MKG · 21/10/2008 18:43

It's a GIRL!!! A healthy, girl!

Slickbird · 21/10/2008 19:04

Fantastic news MKG! How nice for you after two boys! You're gonna love having a girl and all the lovely things you can dress them in!

Wheelybug · 21/10/2008 19:05

Congrats on the good scans everyone ! Can't wait for mine. As others have said - loads of time for placenta to move Ceedub (I had a lowish one quite late - 33 weeks I think or maybe even 35 but it had moved by the next scan).

CS7 - IME they ask you if you want to know or not and then in later scans whether you know or not.

MKG · 21/10/2008 20:14

Thanks ladies,

I didn't really want to find out, but I figured I was going to find out either way. Everything looks nicely developed which is the most important thing though.

So she's healthy, I'm healthy and I've only gained about 3 pounds so far. Yay me!

MKG · 21/10/2008 20:15

Slickbird congrats on the boy!!

Sorry I'm catching up and my posts will be crazy.

MKG · 21/10/2008 20:16

Ceedub--Woo hoo another girl. So is that 3-2 in favor of girls now.

Boobz · 21/10/2008 21:45

3 pounds????

MKGisHavingaGirl · 21/10/2008 22:23

Yup 3 pounds. Of course I'm still carrying the 45 pounds I gained with ds2 17 months ago. I gained about 10 while breastfeeding because I was hungry all the time.

Midwives aren't worried about it and neither am I. With the other two I had gained about 25 pounds. If I can keep total weight gain at about 10 pounds it will be good.

emma2617 · 22/10/2008 08:37

gosh MKG I thought I was doing well with my 5lb weight gain!! 3lb is very impressive! Congrats on the girl!!

I am still not really showing...I just look permanantly bloated! You can tell there is a baby in there if you have a good feel though!! I keep being told "oooh...youll pop soon" with smirks on their faces!! It makes me laugh that people take so much joy in the vact you're gonna end up fat!!!!

meep · 22/10/2008 08:38

Morning everyone - lovely to hear about all the scans - and a wee girl for MKG - just wait till you start shopping for her, you'll never stop!

babbintot I am a litigation solicitor too (quite handy in times of recession - our division is holding our firm together at the moment!). I do clinicalnegligence work so I unfortunately know too much about all the very rare bad things that happen in hospitals. I didn't tell them what I did when I had dd - but this time I've been advised to say as it has contibuted to why I want an elective section this time round.

MKG I don't wan tto weigh myself - I also put on far too much weight after dd - mine was pure comfort eating - so I will have 2 lots of baby weight to shift come March - I'll be needing all your support!

Slickbird - send some of your boy vibes my way. THough I actually wouldn't be that disappointed if I had another girl.

Off to the midwife this morning - will hopefully get to hear the heartbeat which will make me worry less. Mandy, I don't know about you, but I just worry about everything now, it's silly! But seems like we've been through the same sort of thing - MC scare, nuchal screen, amnio etc. My 20 week scan will be our 5th scan!

auntyspan · 22/10/2008 09:37

MKG - I'm sorry??? 3lb?!?! I think you should leave this thread, sit on the sofa and start eating biscuits, cakes and sandwiches.

I'm well chuffed I've only put a STONE on! By 21 weeks with my first pregnancy I'd gained 2 stone.... so I guess it's all relative.... but well done you anyway!

I have my 20 weeks scan next week when I'm 21 weeks I'm so desparate to know the flavour I keep dreaming about it. DH felt beanie kick last night for the first time... magical moment!

CS7 · 22/10/2008 10:46

Thanks wheelybug... MKG, how on earth did you do it? I've gained 8lbs!

MKGisHavingaGirl · 22/10/2008 12:38

I don't know how I'm doing it. I eat whatever I want whenever I want and I don't exercise.

I don't like weighing myself, but they do it at my midwive appointments every month so I can't avoid it. I just close my eyes and wait for them to tell me.

jollyjoanne · 22/10/2008 12:58

I hadn't gained any weight between 6 weeks and 16 weeks, even though I had got fatter, but now I sadly feel the battle is lost and I've probably gained a tonne in the last 4 weeks, I now look and feel very pregnant.

So much that I had the guts to go out and buy both a pram and a cot!

Congrats to MKG for both the staying trim and for joining the pink bump clan.

emma2617 · 22/10/2008 13:12

jollyjoanne no flies on you is there!!!

I though I was being a tad premature sorting nursery before xmas! We are going nursery furniture shopping at the weekend...cant wait!!

Is anyone else finding it awkward being due in march?! I have to go for parentcraft classes late for my PCT because they dont run them over xmas period when i will be 30 weeks...and ordering a pram...waiting until january sales could be leaving it a tad late for places that have long delivery times!!!

Hi emma, I'm looking forward to buying everythign in the january sales! My NCT classes don't start till 24 Feb and DC is due 27 March which is making me feel a bit
Re buying stuff, i can't do so much earlier as our house extension is about to start and i don't want all the lovely shiny stuff to get covered in dust & muck by the time DC arrives

CS7 · 22/10/2008 15:03

babbintot, I'm sleeping rather well- apart from getting up 3 times to traipse to the loo
but i just ordered the pregnancy pillow to try and force myself to sleep on my side as at 17 weeks, i'm still waking up to find myself on my belly (which is my most comfy sleeping position.
I know the books say not to worry if you sleep on your belly but i still do

emma2617 · 22/10/2008 15:09

CS7 must just be me...but I am a total control freak!! I am always early for everything, va elists for everything etc and always like to be prepared!! Jan sales just seems too close to D-Day!!

Understand about getting it dirty though...I have left all the little things we've bought in the packaging!! even though they wont get dirty!!

I think we are going to do the "labour workshop" classes on a saturday, they do an all day session instead of 3 2hr evening sessions. They also do classes that get you ready for baby...with feeding, winding, bathing, nappy changing etc which should be quite helpful! But those will all have to wait til Jan/Feb
