Hi everyone
Hope you are all ok, I have got to 18 weeks today
Junior has been on the move, but in comparison to the pregnancies with the Dd's nowhere near as much movement might give some weight to DH thinking this one is a boy
Had a bit of sad news yesterday, a lady who I know from another forum lost her bean very hard to know what to say when things are going so well for me.

superkat · 19/10/2008 19:42

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let anyone planning a home birth know that we have a competition on Mama to be Goodies to win a birthing pool. Follow this link: www.mamatobegoodies.co.uk/win-la-bassine-birthing-pool-essentials-kit/

Cheers,

Hello all, Had a very quiet w/e just relaxing and catching up on sleep, I work 2 nights a week and the nights I don't work I tend to be asleep by 9!
Think I've finally felt the baby moving, thank goodness. I'm 18 weeks now and have my scan on 4th Nov. I think I've also felt my first BH contraction , I got them quite early on with dd and as the pregnancy progressed they got more and more painful, so not looking forward to that!

emma2617 · 20/10/2008 09:52

Good morning everyone! I had a hectic weekend...not feeling terribly relaxed!! Had my grandmas 80th surprise party so it meant stayiong at my parents and seeing ALL my family and family friends for the first time since announcing the prescence of bambino...and while I enjoyed people showing an itnterest I have never been felt up so often or asked SOOO many questions! I took myself off for a nap at one point!

I am officially past the half way mark which feels good...I feel like I am now counting down to "D-Day" rather that just counting the days! I have started feeling bambino for definate...no pattern as such yet, but when he starts moving I can defiantely feel it!!

Hope everyone is well!

Boobz · 20/10/2008 10:56

Nice to hear everyone had lovely weekends.

Just registered The Bump at local nursery (next road to mine) so that it has a chance of starting there before it goes to school! The waiting list is so long! Was a lovely place with an amazing garden, but at £1375 a month full time, it is going to break the bank! I think I will try and do it 3 days a week and still do a full time job, if I can, which would bring it down to £900 a month which is a bit more manageable. Blimmin' London prices.

No movement yet, but am getting bigger by the day, so definitely growing. Another 3 weeks to wait until the scan.

x

Boobz - OMG!!! That's outrageous!!

Well I didn't have a great weekend really, Have pulled a muscle in my neck so I can't turn my head or lift DD2 and DH has had a stinking cold and was in such a strop yesterday we ended up having a blazing row! But we're alright now, but I still think he's a git.

Still, this morning (which started at an unearthly 5am for me) I have managed to get through a huge pile of paperwork which has been very satisfying as it has been hanging over me! We are off for school term break but just doing DIY and bits and pieces so nothing too exciting.

Anyone know how to wean a 1 year old off her dummy? Because I reckon her days of screaming through the night cos it's dropped on the floor are well and truely numbered. I want her sleeping through every night before the next one comes along. This dummy business is just a nonsense - great in some respects but in others a pain in the bum. DD1 didn't have one and sucked her fingers. I think next one if poss won't have one either. If I can help it.

Millie26 · 20/10/2008 12:30

Hey! Just thought I'd drop in and say hi. There are lots of v quiet people on this thread (including me) but I think you guys that chat loads have great stories and I catch up on everything and then run out of time to say anything!

I've got my scan on Friday and we're going to find out if its a boy or girl if we can. I'm really nervous about it as this is 1st baby and so paranoid about them finding something wrong.

I reckon it's a girl, but secretly want a boy.

Everyone's weekends sounds so nice - especially the ones that include some kind of sex

Bought the only baby thing I have yet on Saturday, a very neutral coloured baby gro from them GAP sale, it's so beautiful, I made DP hold it on him like it was a baby and he talked to it and pretended to tickle its invisible feet and it was all very silly but made me want to cry with excitment thinking about how that could actually be us next March!

Think I've felt baby moving, but nothing to compare it to so not sure. Listened to its heartbeat on my doppler yesterday, was so lovely.

Hope everyone is ok and looking foward to their scans that are comig gup. Congrats to those that have had theirs and those that know what they're going to have!

xx

MKG · 20/10/2008 13:16

Slickbird--the best way to get them of dummies is to do it cold turkey. I did it with both of mine between 12-13 months. One day I just threw them in the trash and didn't look back. The first day and night were hard, but manageable. After that it was never an issue, and they both were fine with it. The earlier you do it the better too.

emma2617 · 20/10/2008 13:33

millie word of advice from a fellow first timer! Dont panic once you get into the scan...I had mine on Friday and it felt like the sonographer took ages taking measurements etc without saying a word before telling us everything was fine and we got a look!! She would scan for a few seconds then take the thing away, click about a bit and then repeat...I was thinking the worst...but it is normal! Just lie back and relax!

slickbird I am having the dummy conversation with DP at the moment. I never had a dummy as my older sister had one and my mum felt horrible taking it away from her...instead I sucked my thumb, a habit I have not managed to break yet!! Im thinking that having a "disappearing dummy" at 12-18 months will be better than a life long thumb-sucker!! Would be interested to hear how you get on!

I have just found out my bonus and payrise at work...a whole £522 extra per annum...that a 2.9% increase...not even gonna cover cost of living increase and my bonus is a whopping 1.3% of my salary...i am so deflated, i have worked damn hard this lat year and that is just an insult

Boobz · 20/10/2008 14:40

What do you do Emma?

emma2617 · 20/10/2008 14:55

I am an account manager for a pallet company...terribly dull!

Boobz · 20/10/2008 18:39

Morning everyone! Well I had my 21 week scan last night and.....................................................................................IT'S A BOY!!!!!

The old ring and chain was right!! And not only that, everything was looking great and the sonographer was happy with everything she saw. I came out with tears of relief and happiness! I had to laugh at DH as he said when we got outside 'See, you're not just a 'one-tick-pony'!' Er...thanks.

I mentioned before that we were having to pay for this one, but the place was really lovely, vaulted beamed ceilings, calming music, candles, scented oils, it was like I was going for a massage! Then I thought, 'I wonder if I can pay them to labour here...?'

But we are just over the moon as we have two girls and although we are going to have to work out bedrooms when the wee ones are older, we aren't worrying about it just now. Just very very happy. It's also nice for DH as this seemed to be the last chance for someone to carry on his last name as his brother doesn't seem to be showing signs of having kids and he's getting on a bit. Anyway, Happy Days!

Thanks for the advice about the dummies - I think you're right MKG = cold turkey is the way forward.

Hope you're all well.

Slickbird · 21/10/2008 08:13

Oh, P.S. Meant to say, we were struggling a bit to see the, er...gender..and then we thought we saw a 'boabie' and then when the sonographer said she agreed about two shots later, the baby had thrown both his legs back with his feet behind his ears saying; 'OK, you want a look?? Here, check this out!!' Show off! But very funny. Also when she was checking the valves of the heart, we could see him yawning! Oh it's a tough life in there.

Slickbird · 21/10/2008 08:15

(er...one-trick-pony) Told you the spelling was bad.

Right, I'll stop hogging the thread.

oh yes...and I meant to say...boobz not nosey...Ill tell almost anybody almost anything!!!

ceedub · 21/10/2008 12:05

Hi everyone, had our 21-week scan yesterday - it was just wonderful. DP and I were quite nervous going in (funny how you spend weeks being excited about seeing the bean, and then just beforehand you remember that actually they're checking everything's actually ok). But it was just great. Our little bean was wriggling about, but the operator was able to confirm everything was fine - and that it's most likely a girl, which we're just delighted about. Little baby had her hands up over her face for ages - and at one point seemed to be chewing her fingers (know where she gets that from!) but finally cooperated. All fine and healthy, and long legs, which she definitely gets from DP as we're all shorties on my side.

Only possible cause for concern is that I have a low-lying anterior placenta, though it's not actually touching the cervix, and while I'm booked in for another scan at 36 weeks, the operator said I could be pretty confident it will have moved away from the cervix by then. Which is good, as I'd rather not have a cs if I can avoid it.

Good luck to everyone having their scans. As DP and I said to each other afterwards, you don't get many moments like that in life, it was truly amazing.

jollyjoanne · 21/10/2008 12:44

Oh its so nice to hear everyone elses scans seem to be going OK, but me and the pink bump are starting to feel a little lonely!
