Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CaptainKarvol · 08/10/2008 16:18

Hi all,

Just back from my 16 (well, 17) week midwife appointment, and heard the tiny sprogling's heartbeat.

ooh, it's lovely isn't it? 155BPM, can anyone remember what the levels are supposed to be for girl / boy?

And I'm happy to say my own blood pressure is fine. I have to have it checked regularly because of having pre-eclampsia last time, so it's such a relief to be told it's normal.

Nice to hear what everyone else is up to. MKG, you are inspiring me to do even less work and to go and make apple tart with all the apple I cooked (in ginger, cinnamon and butter) yesterday

millie, don't fret, 16+3 is still early. I'm only getting occasional movements and it's my 2nd (though my huge and lopsided bump shows that it's not great abdominal muscles that are stopping sensation getting through...)

Emma - how do you amuse yourself for 4 weeks? It is easy when you are that pg! Getting up and moving around was enough to occupy me! It's when it stretched to 5 weeks because the baby was overdue that I got fed up!

lollipopz, what a downer about redundancy. I hope you're going to get some redundancy pay as well?

MKG · 08/10/2008 16:24

I'm so proud to be inspiring people today.

I just went through photos and organized them into books. I make collages of the "first year" photos, and I have been putting off doing ds2's for a few months. But it's almost done. After I pick up some photos i ordered tomorrow It will be complete. I'm very proud to almost be done considering I'm about 5 months behind on that one.

MKG · 08/10/2008 16:27

Captain--congrats on the good appointment. I had blood pressure issues with ds1 and was so happy when it didn't come back with ds2.

I think it's hard to tell boy or girl by the heartrate by the wives tale is faster for a girl and slower for a boy.

Wheelybug · 08/10/2008 16:45

Glad appt went well - as MKG says rumours have it a high heart rate is a girl but dd and I were strapped to monitors for 4 days before she was born and she had a 'boys' heart rate ! I too had pre-eclampsia in first pregnancy so will be checked regularly too although I'm not even allowed to see a midwife only consultants clinic but think thats prob because dd had IUGR as a result.

Emma - take lots of maternity leave. I made the mistake of finishing 3 weeks before my due date only to have to go in after 1 days maternity leave and have my baby ! So no maternity leave for me. This time I was looking forward to having oodles of time as I am a SAHM with dd in nursery 5 mornings a week but have had dh and his illness (and moping around ) to contend with instead. So that's scarpered my plans of being a lazy bum .

MKG- I have as one of my projects putting all our photos into albums before the baby arrives. About 2 years ago I got up to dd's christening which was when she was 10 months old...... that was 3 years ago so I have 3 years of photos to sort and put in albums (thankfully we slowed down on taking photos of dd after the first year !).

Sorry about the redunancy Lollipopz. Also about the date change - when they put my date back by 4 days it seemed ages.... although it was then readjusted back which was great !

emma2617 · 08/10/2008 16:55

captain glad appt went well...and little heart was pounding away!!!

MKG you sound like a domestic goddess...cleaning, cooking, sorting photos...seriously putting me to shame!

I've decided then...I am going to finish work 4 weeks before EDD!!

MKG · 08/10/2008 17:26

You ladies sure are making me feel good today. Normally, I'm not this organized.

The photos were a must do as these projects have been taking over my world lately. Literally they are seeping into the corners of my bedroom.

Taking a shower today has been a challenge. Oh well, I'm home and not planning on going anywhere, so I'll survive until tomorrow

I think I've been feeling some movement, but everytime I concentrate on it, it goes away. Typical.

Slickbird · 08/10/2008 22:29

Just checking in Meep to see how you're doing. You've probably had an emotional day, so hope to hear from you when you're ready. I'm sure everything will be fine. xx

AnathemaDevice · 09/10/2008 07:47

I've got my second midwife appointment today, hope she says everything is going well- I'm going to ask her if it's normal to be constantly tired. I went to the doctors about it (I'm finding it hard to stay awake at work past 1pm, though that could be because work is so boring), but the doctor was totally useless. OK, it probably is just pregnancy causing it, much she made me feel like a naughty child, wasting her time over something so trivial. Cow. (she's not my nrmal doctor, so hopefully I'll never have to see her again)
I started to get worried yesterday as I hadn't felt any movement all day, I'd got to the pint where I was poking the bump every couple of minutes to provoke a response, when I felt the biggest kick I've had so far, as if the sprog was saying 'I'm fine, just leave me alone!'
Got to go and get maternity work trousers this weekend, I've ballooned this week! Going to try Next again, as I got a lovely pair of jeans for 20 quid there last week.

Millie26 · 09/10/2008 09:08

Hey Anethemadevice, I got some a couple of weeks ago from Mothercare for £30 but they are lovely and comfy and soft but look smart too.

All trousers should be like these!

Millie26 · 09/10/2008 09:08

(sorry, I meant Anathemadevice!)

titchy77 · 09/10/2008 10:01

Hi all, I had my 16 wk midwife appointment yesterday, the only time I will see her throughout as the rest of my appointments are with the consultant. Heard babys hb which was 150 bpm which was reassuring although still counting the days untill my 20 wk scan, I am paranoid that something is wrong with the baby and just hope everything is o.k.
As for maternity leave I am not sure when to start mine, with dd i left at 37 weeks and 3 days only to be induced 4 days later so no nice days off for me! This time they are inducing me before 38 weeks so don't know what to do as my edd is 21/03, will have to sit down and work it all out.
Is anyone else suffering with their joints? My knees feel like they are going to break and struggle to walk down the stairs in the morning, told the m/w I feel like an old lady. She did say it's normal in pregnancy as your joints soften and also because I take clexane that can contribute to it...I just hope it doesn't get worse.
Still not feeling any movements either .

lollipopz · 09/10/2008 10:39

Hi all thanks for the kind words! I will be getting a redundancy package but don't think it will be much! Its fine though as I am doing my management training at the mo so hopefully will be able to get a slightly better job at the end of it! !
Can't believe some of u are almost half way there so !
Don't want to talk about how the time seems to be flying by might jinx it!
L xx

babyinbelly · 09/10/2008 11:38

Hey Titchy. I am also suffering with my joints. My left knee, hips, and a weird pain down the right side of my bum. Oh and my back.

So can't sit because my hips hurt, can't lay down because of back and can't walk due to knee and bum pain!

I am hoping to leave work at 36-37 weeks. Might leave before if work too much. After christmas and new year is busiest time so might struggle.

Looking forward to 20week scan now which is a week today! Unfortunatly DP is going on a training course which he can't get out of and isn't going to be there. I thought about changing it but then it would be 23weeks and I think thats a bit late. Oh well it will have to be mother!

emma2617 · 09/10/2008 11:54

BIB my scan is a week tomorrow! Have you decided if you're going to find out the sex?!

I am also having joint issues...especially back and ribs! I got a new chair at work yesterday cos my old one was crippling me!!

LaMonsterWeaselwolf · 09/10/2008 12:07

I had my first back twinge yesterday so hopefully that will be enough for me to remember that I am not supposed to be carting around the heavy furniture at work.

Does anybody finding sleeping on their side a bit uncomfortable? I tried shoving a pillow under the bump which made my back and legs more comfy, but then my head didn't really feel right. Was pondering one of those V shaped maternity cushions, but I'm not sure if it will be right for me.

MKG · 09/10/2008 12:23

Oh sleeping is a nightmare for me. I wake up every morning with the worst back ache. After I walk around I feel fine, but sleeping is what is messing me up. It's funny because I can lift boxes and things at work and I'm fine, but sleeping makes me ache like crazy

EllieorOllie · 09/10/2008 13:55

Yesterday i went to bed with a nice neat little bump that looked as if i was 16-18 weeks pregnant (i'm just 17 weeks). People kept saying it was "such a nice little bump'. This morning i woke up with an absolutely enormous bump that is solid to the touch and looks like i've stuck a football under my dress. This morning people are looking askance at me, as if they are amazed but don't want to mention anything. One brave soul asked me if i was sure i wasn't having twins. Argh!!! What on earth am i going to look like at 30 weeks?
Oh, and my back was fine until i tried to lift gym mats yesterday after a PE lesson, and got stuck and had to send a 5 year old to call for help!! How embarrassing...
Meep, i hope everything is ok, please let us know how you got on, we are all rooting for you and little bubba.

meep · 09/10/2008 14:35

Hi everyone - all in well here. Spent all day yesterday on the sofa, under a duvet, with my dh refusing to let me do anything - was bliss (apart from paranoia about aches and pains). Today am still a wee bit sore but feel more normal. If this wee bean makes it I am definitely not having any more - don't think I could cope with all the stress and worry again. Results next week so fingers crossed.

I have a v shaped pillow - it was great when I was last prgnant and am using it again now! I found the best way to sleep was with a pillow between my knees, a bit under the bump and hugging the rest of it. The v shape covers all those things! And I took it into hospital with me (much nicer than the hospital pillows) and used it for feeding once dd was born. So well worth the money.

Only £12.75 from debenhams

emma2617 · 09/10/2008 14:42

Glad to hear your feeling okay meep...good on your dh looking after you!! Here's to good news next week!!!

babyinbelly · 09/10/2008 15:14

Pleased your doing ok meep Emma we wern't sure if we were going to find out sex but as DP can't make scan I definatly wont find out without him. I think it is something we should find out together and share. So it is March before I know!

I was thinking of buying a nice babygrow one in pink and one in blue so that no matter what it is it will have something nice to come home in! (and I hopefully wont have everyone squinting and saying 'so what did you have?')

CaptainKarvol · 09/10/2008 15:25

meep glad to hear you are OK - take it easy.

I'm just popping in for a moment, but does anyone have any advice? I have been having quite painful tummy cramps since last night, and after feeling grotty all day, have just thrown up on the train on my way home from a meeting

I never had ms so badly that I threw up in the middle of the day - I'm just a bit worried. It could be something I ate, I guess, but is there anything pg related that could cause this?

babyinbelly · 09/10/2008 15:31

I remember I had a 24 hour bug last time that was kind of like this. Not sure if it could be pg related or not hope someone else got better advice.

Hope you feel better soon.

Wheelybug · 09/10/2008 15:35

NOt sure CK - sounds like a bug though to me. Seems a few going around at the mo. Try and take it easy.

Meep - glad you're able to rest up a bit and that things went ok yesterday. Hope the results come quickly.

CaptainKarvol · 09/10/2008 15:41

thanks babyinbelly & wheelybug. As I was typing, I was thinking it sounded more bug like every moment. It's just that I'm never ill! And tummy pain when pg frightens me... But I shall go and have a nice bath and relax as much as poss before doing nursery run.

Mandy73 · 09/10/2008 18:18

Meep so happy you're doing OK.

I hope everyone's well today.

Had lovely appt. with MW + student yesterday, heard the heartbeat & kicks, like little plopps! Oh, and I've lost one kg since the booking appt , how the h*ll did that happen? I feel quite tubby.
MW said it's probably the not drinking alcohol and my metabolism's increased as a result.
