sorry, meant to say
" no fair about the shock brought on a show! especially after my finding the massive one last night!"

ahh well, just hope its not going to take for one to crawl on my face in the night for me to have a show or break my waters! heheheh

foxytocin · 17/09/2008 14:15

i am still having zero sypmtoms so nowt for me to whitter on about.

mellabella · 17/09/2008 14:20

munki-- sldkfj(@(#kadkfjs!* ( I can't think of another way to express extreme disgust so hopefully random letters will do the job) Now I've got the creepy crawlies from just thinking of a ginormous spider in a bowl! Yeah, Mr. Mella keeps telling me there aren't any poisonous ones here (there aren't really any in Minnesota either) but I still hate them!

mellabella · 17/09/2008 14:22

haha was just thinking of how I get to tell the midwife about how my show came to be later today {grin} sure she'll love that one!

leonieD just random question...

do they only do one bp reading? I know that sometimes it makes you anxious just thinking about having high bp... perhaps ask for another one a few minutes after?

foxytocin · 17/09/2008 14:38

notsoslim the success of bfing after a reduction depends on the type of incisions that were made. If too many of the ducts have been cut through then this reduces your ability to feed. So it depends from patient to patient.

It is better to speak one to one to a qualified BFC to explore the possibility of partial bfing if the chance is there for you to do some. Even some breastfeeding provides benefits to you and your baby. Even one feed of colostrum and nothing else is of value to your baby.

Have you seen evidence of colostrum on your bra?

Through ringing a helpline, you will be able to find a counsellor who you may even be able to see face to face, antenatally and with whom you will already have a relationship with postnatally for support and guidance. It is well worth investigating as at least later on you can feel confident you made your decisions on information rather than probabilities.

Good luck. It takes a strong woman to look at all these issues on such an emotive thing at such an emotive time.

plusonemore · 17/09/2008 14:40

ok, so does it matter which brand of window cleaner...?

leonie-yeah I see what you mean. maybe it's just me, but i always get a higher read when they use the electronic one instead of the old fashioned ones. hopefully the stress level goes down for you!!

plusonemore- lol,i actually went into the kitchen to check the brand and it's just the generic wilko brand with vinegar-maybe that's the difference??

ha, maybe I'll just start cleaning the windows and more things will happen?

notsoslimnow · 17/09/2008 14:48

FOXY ... thanks so much for that.after the operation i was told i would have no chance of bf whatsoever BUT this collostrum type stuff that came out really was in abundance, not just a small amount.my bra was very wet and i could actually see bight yellow oozing from the nipple.(sorry if anyone is eating)! now my thought then was to quickly get a breast pump and see if i could at least get some out and freeze it in a storage bag just incase that was the lot!
i have no idea if id be able to get anything from the other breast but my thought was ''at least one maybe working''.even if i can only give a little collostrum to my baby i know how beneficial that can be.
what do you think of my breast pump idea? and if i cant produce enough would it be unheard of for a baby to accept SOME breast feeding together with bottle feeding?
many thanks for all previous info you provided x

foxytocin · 17/09/2008 15:04

A woman can successfully bf from one breast only. you'd be lopsided but you can do it.

hand expression is better if you want to collect colostrum antenatally. hand expressing colostrum here

YOu can just get about 10 5ml syringes from the pharmacy and freeze them in the syringe in your freezer and take to hosp in a cool bag.

It sounds like at least some feeding early on and then maybe later you may have to move on to mix feeding is doable. But you will never know how much you can do without 1 to 1 support.

Deffo contact a BFC! This stuff is beyond the territory of my expertise and I think a fully trained counsellor will prefer a 1 on 1 ongoing discussion with you from now through to post natally.

foxytocin · 17/09/2008 15:09

babies can have some breastmilk and formula by using something called a Supplementary Nursing System (SNS). A company called www.expressyourselfmums.co.uk sells them. they are usually used for getting a baby to breastfeed and weaned off formula but I would think that they can also be used where a mum is not producing enough BM and some formula is necessary. The counsellor would be able to say when and if this system would be of optimal benefit as it very much is a case by case thing.

jennylindinha · 17/09/2008 15:19

Hello all, I see it's all go on here today! Congrats to Notcitrus, Lollipop and Minkersmum! I think that's all of you since I last logged in, but sounds like there'll be a few more by the end of the day... Good luck everyone

Well, just been to a 4 hour breastfeeding workshop! It was quite good actually although I was feeling a bit sleepy by the end (and starving - had to rush to Sainsbury's and stuff myself with bread and cheese afterwards.)

Pidge - well done braving Ikea and managing such a short time there, I'll have to try and follow your lead next time. Sorry to hear about your bike break in, thank goodness it was insured and you are not really using it at the moment!

DP and I managed to paint our room yesterday (he went to work in between coats) and put up the first wardrobe of many so I'm finally getting to sort stuff. Arms aching from painting though, but baby's room next and hopefully it'll be ready and sorted at the weekend. Then, it's DSD's turn and she can certainly help with the painting of her room as I'll have had more than enough by then! At least I am getting some exercise anyway - although I should be snoozing on the sofa watching Murder She Wrote, doh.

LOL at the spider stories! I'll be hunting them down if I go really overdue... That reminds me, yet another little mouse in the hosue yesterday and we had to kill it. I hate them in the flat but always feel when we have to whack 'em and they squeak. Awful.

notsoslimnow · 17/09/2008 15:33

OH THANKS FOXY,going to give the helpline a call now,MANY THANKS.x

ellideb · 17/09/2008 15:40

You lot make me laugh with your spiders, shows and Ikea! 3 pages to catch up on since this morning! Jeez! Anyway I thought I'd update you.

After the 'show' this morning I've been getting regularish contractions every 5-9 minutes. If I stay in one place they seem to get more established. I find I can cope with them much better when I walk around. They are quite painful when I have one and I am sitting down so I'm trying to keep moving. I did try and have a lie down earlier because I was feeling tired and they started coming every 8 mins but were quite sore so I gave that up and came on here! I have phoned the midwife and am waiting to hear back from her as I just want some advice and reassurance really.

plusonemore · 17/09/2008 15:59

elideb that sounds promising! walking up and down stairs is meant to help speed things up a bit if you want to try it (and then report back on the success please for the rest of us!)

ellideb · 17/09/2008 16:22

plusonemore I'm definately trying to keep active and have done a few trips up and down the stairs tho there's only so much one can do with regards to ones sizeable bulk!

Walking definately eases the pain of the contractions though! Midwife just called back and recommended a bath. I hate baths. And suprise suprise, a paracetamol. Pah. And to phone back if pain becomes unbearable. I was hoping she would say, 'come in, come in. goodness, you sound like you have definatley dilated 7cms already, havn't you done well! we've got some lovely gas and air and a nice warm birthing pool waiting for you'

plusonemore · 17/09/2008 16:25

ha ha elideb that certainly would be an unusual response from a midwife...it would be like those beer adverts (is it carlsberg?) "We dont do midwives but if we did they'd probably be the best midwives in the world..."

At least if you try bath and paracetemol and they're still there you know you're really in labour!

ellideb · 17/09/2008 16:29

I want a Carlsberg midwife!

carrieon · 17/09/2008 16:43

Afternoon all, and huge congrats on the babies and nearly-babies! Sadly i have no exciting news of shows/contractions/birth. I have a spider story but its not very good - I picked the beast up in a tissue and threw it out the window. Not a classic!
Each time my phone beeps I wonder if its mamamufin with a birth announcement, but sadly not today it seems
I've had my day off from being mummy, I did a bit of shopping, met a friend for coffee, read Mother&Baby magazine and have ironed and hung the new curtains in dd's room which took longer and was more exhausting than I had anticipated! Had a bizarre experience in starbucks when a waitress (sorry, barista) handed me and my friend free drinks vouchers in the queue. They were valid for today only for any espresso based drink (i.e. a latte). So we got to the till and handed them over (to the same barista!) and only had to pay for our cakes. Er, ok then, I'll have a free coffee for absolutely no reason whatsoever while everyone else in the queue has to pay for theirs!!
So there we go, a nice story, but not a birth one. Sorry!
Best go and pick up dd from my friend's house before she outstays her welcome....!

blimey · 17/09/2008 16:50

minkersmum conratulations, what a fab story!!

Sounds like we all need Calsberg midwives and obstetricians!!! esp Leonie and Becaroo Pidge sorry to hear about your bike, dead annoying

Munki very sorry to hear the bad news of your neighbour. I am very impressed that you are able to do cooking for her! I am so utterly useless at present with leg pain.
