I'll have a pair of large crotchless maternity tights please THOM... please make them have a support panel that holds me in too and makes me look a little less like a pot bellied pig. Will £4.99 cover it ?

I have a boy and girl name in my head - both fairly unusual and both start with 'M'. Am too superstitious to say them out loud (or type them !).DH never likes my names that I choose, but he always comes around in the end !!

swampster · 24/09/2008 19:50

My baby has a name. AND DH and I are agreed! When DS1 was born I remember threatening to grab him and run to the Register Office and give him a name of MY choosing if DH and I couldn't choose one we both liked.

herbgarden · 24/09/2008 20:12

Ooh yes, forgot about Noah - am liking that too...

Sorry if my next comment offends anyone but as I was getting on the bus at the hospital after my appointment (dh didnt' seem keen to be chivalrous and give me a lift...."work stressful, sorry" charming....) I could smell cigarette smoke and could see it coming from just behind me so stepped out of the way only to see the lady who'd gone in for a scan at the same time as me puffing away - I felt quite upset for that baby but also funnily enough I was also shocked as I haven't in a long time seen an obviously pregnant woman smoking away in public....I'm sure lots do it and I may well be naive but that was my honest reaction......

McDreamy · 24/09/2008 20:14

Hello everyone, I'm back from a week in the UK. Just checked us all out on our facebook page and added a couple of photos of my 2 babys at my brother's wedding on Saturday.

Markstretch I saw that you were in hospital is all ok now?

dinkystinky · 24/09/2008 20:44

Ahh, the great baby name debate... hours of entertainment. I bought a book of 10,000 baby names from round the world when pregnant with DS and spent many happy hours tormenting DH by suggesting our child should be called "Stormi", "Snuffy", "Mercedes", "Portia", "Hortense" and many other amusing names suggested in the book.... rather suspect he wont be falling the same way this time round...

MS, I kept my maiden name when I got married (purely because my first name and DH's second name sound stupid put together) and DS has taken DH's surname, which is fine and the deal we always agreed. Does make it awkward when am just travelling with DS (as always have to take birth certificate to prove am his mother!) and also meant I cant do a postal redirect for him - only his dad can (so annoying!).

pluto · 24/09/2008 20:50

You have all got lovely baby names in mind - we haven't narrowed it down at all yet but I would like a Scandinavian name (family). My DS has a scandi name which anglicises well. I rather like Freida and Astrid but boys' names have me stumped at the moment - all the good scandi ones are already in use in the family.

I work in a school and I am LOVING school dinners just now.

TinkerBellesMum · 24/09/2008 20:54

Thanks all. I?m sort of glad it happened because I am hoping I can use it to my advantage on Friday. I think people forget how much pain and how unstable I am, so the sooner I get onto crutches the better, both for my comfort and to remind people how I am. Not sure how Tink will cope with Mummy being on crutches and not able to pick her up. I?ve been better today although still not able to walk properly, still holding onto my pubic bone in case it falls out (very odd feeling!)

Idontbelieveit before I was pregnant I was on tramadol for my back. One day I reacted to it, I felt really fuzzy, went to the toilet because I felt a little sick and the next thing I know it?s three hours later, I?ve been sick and fallen asleep on the floor! Fortunately TBNan had her!

Mrsy, speak to your midwife and she should be able to get you in with a physio, but, as has already been discussed on this thread, don?t expect to get ?physio?. They will teach you posture, correct movement and very basic movements (not even exercises). They can also monitor you so that they can arrange a belt (if you can get a script for one) and crutches if you get to that point.

Ooooh, Laidback, where in Brum are you going to be?

I think the name is easier when it?s the other sex because even if you agree on one you?re not setting it IYSWIM. We argued about Tink all the way through, he wasn?t convinced about my choice of name, but she was born he came to me the next day and said ?If you want to call her Isobel, I don?t mind?. It really does suit her though.

We?re thinking about Carla for a girl, but not sure about a boy and haven?t even thought of any other names, let alone agreed on any. I thought of Carla after seeing something about cala lilies seems to be carrying on a theme a bit without being too obvious. In case anyone has missed it Mum?s name is Susan which comes from Shoshana the Hebrew for lily. We decided on Sara Lily as a middle name before Lily-Hope was born and it?s now Tink?s middle name.

mrsy · 24/09/2008 21:05

Didn't get as far as the supermarket - decided that a quick sprint round tesco express and then on to blue habour for chish and fips - yum!

thehouseofmirth · 24/09/2008 21:08

MS let's go on Dragon's Den and see if they'll finance a range. Duvet covers are the least of my nipples' worries - try having a three yo attached to them! Am really, really beginning to resent still feeding him. And them am feeling horrible for resenting it.

What do you think about Nancy for a girl? Or Betsy?

MarkStretch · 24/09/2008 21:15

Love Nancy and Betsy for a girl.

Also really like Kitty and Esme.

McDreamy- all ok now thank you

TBM- glad to hear you are making it work to your advantage!

Had my extra stretchy trousers on today. They are black jogging bottoms with a massive stretchy band.

Walked past DH with the stretchy band pulled up over hoody to norks with white gym socks on show.

I am sex on legs...

Here's a corker! MIL phoned tonight.

Said to DH 'Oooh glad things are ok now, please remind MarkStretch not to put her arms above her head for the remainder of her pregnancy as that's how the cord gets round the baby's neck'.

herbgarden with everything I?ve been through it upsets me too. Having spent so long of my last pregnancy in hospital I couldn?t get over how many pregnant women were outside smoking.

TinkerBellesMum · 24/09/2008 21:31

I love that Old Wives Tale!

dinkystinky · 24/09/2008 21:36

Oh superstitions like that drive me crazy. My mother (a doctor, not that you'd believe it) drove me insane when I was pregnant with DS due to all her little indian superstitions (like me not being able to have dairy on certain days and only milk on certain other days and times, no meat at certain times etc.) - needless to say I pretty much ignored her...

herbgarden · 24/09/2008 21:36

I've never heard that before. Arms staying safely by my side

herbgarden · 24/09/2008 21:39

Funny Dinky you'd have thought being a doctor they'd have that "pull yourself together" approach rather than getting involved in all the hocus pocus wouldn't you

dinkystinky · 24/09/2008 21:52

One would have thought that - however I rather suspect that my mum had quite traumatic pregnancies/births (she doesnt talk about it much but was a junior doctor working all hours god sent when pregnant with both of us, and on top of that working in obstetrics at the time, and ended up being morphined out her brains for both labours) so pregnancy is a really awful thing in her mind and she reverts to crazy indian village superstitions.... Wouldnt mind so much if she didnt project it all onto me and my pregnancies, just hope she gets it all out of her system by the time my sister gets pregnant (which is a loooooooooong way off!)

thehouseofmirth · 24/09/2008 21:55

What's wrong with me? I really, really want a glass of sherry.

dinkystinky · 24/09/2008 22:05

THOM - you've been having an awful time with eczema, etc - no wonder you feel like a little drink, though sherry is an interesting choice. Is it the old granny type sherry you're craving or chilled manzanilla? Would sniffing the sherry do it for you? If not, am sure a tiny glass would probably nail your craving....

herbgarden · 24/09/2008 22:08

my mum took an age to get pregnant and as a result I spent years convincing myself that either I'd never have kids or that it would be an uphill struggle to conceive. Thankfully that's not happened but as you say, those things do project themselves on to us.....

THOM - ew yuk. Did you like the stuff pre pg??

dinkystinky · 24/09/2008 22:16

THOM - my husband loves the stuff (the dry manzanilla stuff that to me tastes and smells like petrol) so I do know you can get those tiny tio pepe bottles (which DH has to as I absolutely refuse to drink the stuff). Maybe its a really strange kind of pica you're experiencing?

herbgarden · 24/09/2008 22:35

dh's grandma LOVES tio pepe (she's 85) .....funnily enough dh is partial to a drop too. We went to this quirky B&B once where they had a little decanter of it by the bed every night and he'd drain it dry

Right, enough ramblings I'm off to bed.....

onwardandupward · 24/09/2008 23:22

M&S hold ups are the answer. crotchless tights indeed, you saucy lot.

dinkystinky · 25/09/2008 08:47

I tried holdups when pregnant with DS Onward - they kept slipping down so spent most of my time in them hobbling around holding them up through my dress looking really v odd!

Maybe hold ups with suspenders to keep them in place?

PinkTulips · 25/09/2008 10:00

maya for a girl

lord only knows what for a boy... got a nice ring to it don't you think?

dp is always strange about boys names, he can't have normal ones as he always knows/knew someone with that name and didn't like them. he doesn't like vastly unusual names or very irish names. so we have to try and find a name that's normalish, pronouncable, can't be shortened, doesn't make weird initials with his surname, is unusual enough that he doesn't know anyone called it already and that he actually likes

how ds has a name at all is beyond me!

winemakesmummyclever... dd's invisable friends used to make her cry as they bullied her be grateful your ds is doing the bossing!

yuk, ditch the tights altogether girls..... the disconfort isn't worth it.

am still waiting for that electrician... the novelty of cold showers has worn off somewhat

dinkystinky · 25/09/2008 10:32

Maya is really pretty PinkTulips - as are all of the other names Markstretch came up with (nicely retro some of them).

For girl, we've got 2 from last time round - Iona (now not sure about using it as friend has given it to her daughter as middle name) and Naomi, both of which would work with DH's surname. Also loved Lalita for baby girl, though not sure how odd it would be to have one child with an english christian name (DS has english christian name and indian middle name) and one with an indian one....For boy, have the spares from last time round - Daniel, Ethan, Luke and Jack (DH's granddad's name - not hugely keen on it as DS is a J name already but DH insistent it go on the list). Having to now dust off my list of indian middle names - we only managed to agree on one boy's indian name last time round, so god only knows what we'll end up doing if this one is a boy (as I suspect)....
