Study of the homing insticts of deer mice over here Brief cut&paste:

The mice traveled 650 m to 1,980 m (mean 1,500 m) and had to cross a river and pass optimal habitat patches to reach their home sites. Deer mice with previous homing experience were more successful in returning home (100%) than inexperienced mice (60%) and faster in doing so

  • different variety but still...

Hi laidback, I am blooming right now!

herbgarden · 24/09/2008 15:10

Blimey you lot have been busy this morning.....so, glad MS that all is ok with you and also glad that you have taken to your bed and are taking it easy. TB -hope you too are now feeling a bit more human ??

Dinky - we had a mouse a couple of years ago which had made a bed (and a v/large hole) in the tumble dryer vent tube thingy at the back. It was quite cute but met it's timely death in a viscious trap after being tempted by that runny syrupy nesquik chocolatey stuff. DH said it was quite cute and buried it in the garden. Never saw another after that.

Good news - had my 20 w scan at 12pm today and all was well. Don't know sex as didn't want to find out but everything was where it should be and so far so good......relieved...

my sciatica is also now giving me gip...i'm off to make appntmntfor referral.

swampster · 24/09/2008 15:12

Hi laidback, I am blooming right now!

swampster · 24/09/2008 15:13

my MN has gone weirdy!

winemakesmummyclever · 24/09/2008 15:29

MS - glad that you and your little man are ok. Hope you and dd are having a lovely day off together. You are certainly having strange cravings if you want NHS food! (though I can understand the nostalgia associated with school meals - but I took a packed lunch so no sago pudding for me)

TBM & KazzaL- hope you are a bit more mobile now. I often get stuck in the most random positions and have to wait until I am brave enough to try to move through the pain and get up again. Got stuck whilst talking to a patient once and they had to get help for me. Bless them, I was supposed to be looking after them! Have had a good couple of days with my back, so am hoping that my almost obsessive exercise/ acupuncture regime is paying off. Hope that everyone else out there with back/hip/pelvic pain is getting it sorted and under control.

Glad all the scans are going well, even if there are some uncooperative beans out there!

laidback - enjoy the wedding and hope your speech goes down well.

swampster - so what exactly is normal then?

idontbelieveit · 24/09/2008 15:35

Great news herbgarden.

So names - who has got one already?
who wants to share?

We had a boy's name because we thought we'd struggle to chose one,(Isaac) but now we know it's a girl we can't think/agree on anything and we thought a girl's name would be easy....Thoughts please. How are you choosing your names?

swampster · 24/09/2008 16:28

winemakesmummyclever - I'll explain myself in the FB - can't bring myself to go into detail on a public forum .

winemakesmummyclever · 24/09/2008 16:50

Am intrigued now. Didn't think anyone was "normal" these days....at least no one I know

lardybump · 24/09/2008 17:01

evening all.

So glad things are ok MS, I can only imagine what you went through..

So sorry you are all suffering, my face has gone down a bit and the pain is more a throb today so I am much better....

As far as names my and dp can not agree on anything but I love Isla for a girl or Megan.

herbgarden · 24/09/2008 17:28

Names......we can't decide whether we should use the name we had for a girl before ds arrived in the event we have a dd this time - it was Evie- I know two friends with an Eva but Evie was the only name that dh and I could agree on. I know it's more popular now but I can't think of another name I like.

We only agreed on one boys name a week before ds arrived - suddenly I just got a hunch that we'd have a boy rather than a girl.

I really like Elliott, Louie and Lucas for a boy - all go well with our surname. Isaac is a really nice idbi - not one I'd thought of. I know lots of little boys with nice names so it's hard to think of something original.....

I've been looking at the names on the pegs at nursery for inspiration but so far failed !

mslucy · 24/09/2008 17:29

Stanley.
Can't think of him as anything else now.
he's just Stanley

would have been Violet if he'd been a girl.

MarkStretch · 24/09/2008 18:12

My son is going to be Frank after my grandfather.

Middle name Laurence after my Dad.

thehouseofmirth · 24/09/2008 18:29

Evening All! Glad to hear all is well with you and your little man, MS. Sorry to hear about everyone else's ailments. Not too bad here apart from the rampant eczema and very itchy lady bits (anyone know where you can buy crotchless maternity tights?...)

At this rate DC2 is destined to remain nameless. We both love Frank but it just doesn't go with DS's name. I'm quit eliking Magnus ut DH has vetoed that and all my other suggestions and the other day he sent me an email suggesting Cassia or Solange for a girl so that gives you some idea of what I'm up against!

winemakesmummyclever · 24/09/2008 19:10

Well, we don't know what we're having yet. Love Gabriel for a boy and Saoirse or Niamh for a girl, but dh has raised objections already (mainly based on not being able to spell them ).

Isaac is lovely IDBI . I like the more traditional names too, but it is just so hard to agree.

Think ds has got an imaginary friend now. He keeps having v in-depth conversations with him/her when he is playing. He sounds very bossy with them! Am sure he'll be blaming them for all his escapades soon enough.

thom - think you may have to visit a "specialist" (ahem) site or shop for those kinds of things m'dear .

mrsy · 24/09/2008 19:14

Hey all.

Man today was long and painfull - lucky I work for a pct, and all the girls in the office were fab - trying to track down a physio, and sorting me out an appointment. Saw an osteopath this afternoon and she was a dream. I'm right by a teaching clinic, so was really good value for money. Then I'm seeing my GP tomorrow. I was sat at my desk crying at one point.

As for names - love the trad style. Stanley is great, and I think Frank is really cool. Evie's cute, but I think it's quite popular. We're going for fairly unusual names - at the moment, Meredith is in the lead...

mrsy · 24/09/2008 19:18

wmmc - we were gonna have Gabriel for a boy, I was a bit worried about the nasty nickname possibilities for the future, and was possibly erring on Noah, but that was pretty much what we had chosen - we decided the day before the scan when we found out her flavour!!!

MarkStretch · 24/09/2008 19:18

Meredith is nice. You could have several different shortenings of that too if that is your thing.

I was so stuck for girls names. I loved Agatha but DH said NO WAY. I think it's a lovely name.

The surname debate is raging in this house:

DH is L

DSD is L

I am L-H (took his and kept mine when we got married- dd has got my surname so wanted to keep H for her benefit)

DD is H

I think ds (ha! still amuses me) should be L-H as he is a combination. DH says L.

thehouseofmirth · 24/09/2008 19:18

I think I may have just invented something then! Do you think there'd be a big market for them?!

mslucy · 24/09/2008 19:20

Meredith is great.
what else have you got?

mrsy · 24/09/2008 19:20

MS - she'd be Merry!

MarkStretch · 24/09/2008 19:22

THOM- could you also make a duvet cover with nipple holes?

I wince everytime I brush mine getting into bed.
