Good luck PC

Milward - OMG to the porn on your PC

Sallie · 04/03/2005 09:54

Good luck PC - let us know how you get on.

andif · 04/03/2005 10:09

Milward - thinking of you. Hopefully it's just that your babies happen to have large nuchal measurements. I didn't think they could do a reliable nuchal scan before 11 weeks anyway! What is a cmv infection? (am I being very dense?!)

Feeling yuck today - think it was after a glass of champagne last night for dh's bday. Helping with Egyptian afternoon at ds1's school - last thing I feel like!

andif · 04/03/2005 10:14

Sorry, can't process more than one message at a time! Mummyhill, was your last baby big? A friend of mine also had a blood sugar check as her first was over 9lbs so they automatically check for gestational diabetes.
PC it's definitely normal scan nerves - mine's on Mon and I'm nervous already. Trying to persuade dh that we'll ask about sex, but he's not convinced!

Piccalilli · 04/03/2005 10:53

Good luck PC - hope everything goes OK today.

Sallie · 04/03/2005 10:56

We weren't able to find out the sex at our scan on Monday although the sonographer said she couldn't see anything which may be a sign. DS wants a sister definitely. DD not able to say yet!
Hoping dh will be able to do a sneaky scan on me in about 3-4 weeks time when we should be able to determine what it is!
I was also very nervous and slightly perturbed that my nuchal test produced a higher risk this time around. Having said that, am not sure what is 'average' for my age (32) and the measurement was 1mm which I gather is fine.
Best of luck to everyone with scans today and next week. Its a nerve-wracking time but also very exciting. Good to be nearly rid of the first trimester!

Kiwicath · 04/03/2005 11:39

Well, finally got my a into g and got up to Cairo for my nucal scan. All seems to be fine and babe measured exactly the right size for dates - defo due 13th. I asked doc if he could tell the sex and (after making me promise not to hold it against him if he was wrong) said almost definitely another little boy. His little tager was there for all to see. Still, will wait for 20 week scan before I get the name book out.

The whole family has got but recovered from Giardia now. I probably still have it but won't be able to take anything until 5 months. I've lost loads of weight though which, under any other situation I'd be over the moon about. Sure I will make up for lost time though .

Andif, CMV (cytomegalovirus) is a virus contract via saliva or urine. Most adults don't even know the've got it as symptoms are generally quite mild. It can cause problems for the fetus though. Most people are immune but this time round I've asked for a blood test to see if I am or not.

Beatie · 04/03/2005 11:46

Just wanted to share that I have managed to find the most perfect thing to drink. Apple and elderflower juice drink (on offer in Waitrose) It's not too sweet, not fizzy and totally refreshing. Yum!

mummyhill · 04/03/2005 11:49

DD was 7lb 10oz but apparently he thinks i am a high risk due to my age and the fact that i was a little overweight before becoming pregnant. If i could control my weight better i would but its a little difficult when they can't decide weather or not they have your tyroid under control or not!!

andif · 04/03/2005 12:02

Mummyhill, a good friend has an underactive thyroid which made her 3rd pregnancy thoroughly miserable - she put on 4 st and was constantly exhausted. She was so cross with the drs as she self diagnosed (it's in her family, although not meant to be genetic!) but they wouldn't listen to her. Now it's under control, her 4th pregnancy was totally straightforward. I would urge you to nag the drs to sort out your thyroid if you think that could be the problem!

PiccadillyCircus · 04/03/2005 12:39

Back from scan and all is well .

Just the one baby (this was another irrational worry of mine) and as I thought I am slightly further on than LMP would suggest (I know exactly when I conceived, on day 8 of a 26-28 day cycle) and so I am 12 weeks today instead of 11+1. Feels odd to have lost nearly a week of being pregnant.

I will update the stats thread accordingly.

Baby was bouncing about all other the place and did the waving arm and leg thing.

Going to eat some lunch now and drink coke . Possibly this is why baby was bouncing about so much...

Sallie · 04/03/2005 12:41

Glad to hear all went well, PC. Did you have the nuchal test or was it just a dating scan?

PiccadillyCircus · 04/03/2005 12:47

Just dating scan - here you have to have a nuchal scan privately and DH and I decided not to.

When I was pregnant with DS 2 years ago you didn't get a dating scan here - I'm glad you do now.

Sallie · 04/03/2005 12:57

PC you now have the same due date as me!

Kiwifruit · 04/03/2005 13:05

Hi Ladies - can I join in? I've been posting on the October thread, but had a dating scan yesterday and am 10 + 5, which makes my due date 26th Sept (seems boxing day was rather productive ). The scan was amazing - nice to know there's actually something in there (although scary that something so small can create so much chaos!!). Think I've nearly kicked the morning sickness into touch, but my bladder has suddenly shrunk to the size of a pea, and I still burst into tears at the drop of a hat (poor dh was quite excited at the thought of 9 pmt free months - ha!).

milward · 04/03/2005 13:38

Kiwicath - thanks for explaining the cmv bit. I wasn't immune for my first preg but was immune for my 2nd+. I u/s from my doc that it is still possible to get cmv again & again but as had itbefore reaction not as strong for mum although baby can still be affected. With my 3 dds & their runny noses etc plus there friends there's not much chance of avoiding this infection usually picked up from little ones. Has everyone been checked for toxoplasmosis? This is another big one picked up from animal poo, raw meat & soil. Grew up in the country but not immune!! Causes most probs in the 1st trimester but can still effect baby later on as well. Will have this checked every month with a blood test (have to have test anyway so it will just be added in). Such happy thoughts!!

Sallie · 04/03/2005 14:29

Yuk - just brought up my lunch and am absolutely shattered. Tried to eat a lot to stave off the nausea and it backfired on me. Its horrid being sick at work and now finding it really hard to concentrate on what I am supposed to be doing. Roll on the weekend!

franch · 04/03/2005 14:34

Hi all, just checking in. Had a much better day yesterday after my drama-queen act on Wed, although today's been exhausting so far.

Kiwifruit - welcome. Have you added yourself to our stats thread ?

milward - best of luck with the blood tests.

PC - glad to hear your scan went well

LadyLazarus · 04/03/2005 16:26

Beattie + mummyhill - thanks for the kind words. The bit about having the opportunity to lie down at work made me laugh out loud tho! Chance would be a fine thing! I AM sitting down more than normal, which is as much as I can expect I guess. Roll on Monday + occy health!

Kiwifruit · 04/03/2005 16:35

Have updated the stats Franch.

Ladylazarus - noticed that you are going to St Marys in Paddington too. Have you had a look around yet? Have heard mixed reports about it, but as it is literally 15 minutes walk from our house (not that I'm planning on walking there )it seems to be the most sensible choice (also the only choice my GP gave me - muttered something about other hospitals, but said they don't send people to them - have applied to move to a different GP surgery!). Have you had your booking in appointment? Which centre did you go to?

So many questions...
Roll on the weekend!!!

LadyLazarus · 05/03/2005 08:44

Kiwifruit - we might actually be moving to Greenford (near Ealing) before the birth, so if that happens then no I won't be having it at St Mary's. I haven't been to look around or anything, although I have heard good things about it. I am a nurse, and have worked on various wards in the hospital, although nothing to do with maternity!

My booking appointment will be on 18th March, at the Woodfield Road clinic (off the Harrow Road). Not sure if I will have a scan that day or not! How about you??

mummyhill · 05/03/2005 09:57

I have had a thyroid problem for 12 years they kept telling me i was on a maintenance dose and everything was fine till september when i miscarried and then they suddenly decided that it was dangerousley out of control and trebled my dosage. It is now stable but being pregnant i have to have it checked every two months. Started to lose some of the weight i had gained but obviousley it will make the baby weight more difficult to shift. Now they are telling mne i am high risk for diabetes and are taking blood for that as well when we get back from euro disney next week. I seem to be having more problems with this pregnancy than i did with dd and work are been funny about it i just wish they would get off my case and stop stressing me as the stress levels they are putting on me do not help in the slightest.

Kiwifruit · 05/03/2005 18:05

Hi Lady Lazarus - your appointment is 10 days before mine (29th). I'm also going to the Woodfield Rd clinic, so I'll be interested to hear how you got on. I called them, and apparently you have a nuchal scan at the booking in appointment, assuming that you're within the 11 - 13 week period for a nuchal scan. I'm not (will be 14 weeks 3 days), so am having a nuchal scan at the Fetal Medicine Clinic on the 18th.

Have heard that the wards at St Marys are quite big and noisy (bathrooms down the hall), so am wondering if they have private rooms, and if they do, how extortionate they are... have a feeling they're likely to be out of our reach, but I can always dream!!

Will be interested to hear how you get on with the appointment - keep me posted (although I may not reply as am off to the States for Easter on the 19th).

Kiwifruit · 05/03/2005 18:13

Mummyhill - poor you, it all sounds very stressful . I guess at least they are screening for the diabetes so you can know one way or the other and start managing it. A couple of my friends were at risk for it and monitored throughout their pregnancies, but it didn't end up being a problem (with the amount of sugary stuff I'm throwing down my throat at the moment, wouldn't be at all surprised if it becomes a problem for me - must pull my head in!!).

Do you have an HR department at work that you can talk to about the stress at work?

milward · 05/03/2005 23:08

Anyone else hungry!! - had a huge dinner of pasta, cream sauce & veg - but now starving - off to have the left overs....
