Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm a bit in shock, had to go for a scan as had some bleeding. Everything fine but instead of the 9 weeks I vaguely thought I was, apparently I was 12 weeks (now 13)! Seeing that little thing on the screen has suddenly made me realise I really am going to have a baby.
And does anyone know if its true that your hair stops growing when you are pregnant? Please say this is a load of rubbish as I've just had a very bad hair cut and am feeling like a fat worzle gummage.

Sallie · 07/03/2005 08:58

It is rubbish! Well, as far as I am aware anyway as my hair got thicker and glossier in my previous two pregnancies and it certainly didn't stop growing!

Kiwicath · 07/03/2005 10:26

I think the deal is that your hair slows down it's natural shedding which makes it appear thicker. The down side is it makes up for lost time after the baby is born and sheds all at once which is a little worrying when handfuls of hair comes away with every brush stroke . Then again, I might be talking rubbish

Morning all, I hope you are all feeling a bit brighter this morning???? I am still feeling very tired but I got me scan date through for the 16th when I should be 12+1. Can't wait!!! I have pinned my hopes on this as being the thing that actually makes me feel that I am pg, it still all feels a bit surreal (sp??) We fell pg the 1st month of trying and as I haven't had much sickness it just doesn't really seem real (also having lost 1/2stone in weight) I just want to know that everything is ok and that we haven't imagined it all! Sorry will stop waffling on I know I don't make much sense...

zubb · 07/03/2005 11:16

Morning! Hope everyone had a good, sickness free weekend.
I'm just about 14 weeks now and into the stage where I don't actually feel pregnant. No sickness / no tiredness etc, even got some motivation back and have a tidy house
As for hair, I'm with Kiwicath on this. My hair stops falling out when I'm pregnant, so it gets really thick. As it starts out thick anyway it gets really heavy. So, I had a very drastic haircut on Saturday, went from shoulder length to very very short - all shaped into my neck, and no hair below jaw-line. Dh hates it, but has always hated my hair short and I don't see what it has to do with him anyway ,and ds1 said he thought I was daddy when he climbed into bed with us on Sunday!
Everyone else I've seen have said they love it - but they could just be being polite!!

moschops · 07/03/2005 11:25

yokefleet> i know exactly what you mean........i was starting to think i was imagining it all, and when i had my scan and saw my little one doing a headstand and kicking it's feet like crazy it really did make it all 'real'. i still haven't stopped staring at the pic and also feel the need to show it to everyone!

i'm sick to death of havng a bunged up nose.......although i feel bad moaning about something so insignificant when others are still having sickness and feeling rough.

i got an e-mail from my bump yesterday it said 'Happy Mothers Day, thankyou for the warm safe place to stay, see you in six months!!' Did it make me cry? oh just bucket loads

YOKEFLEET · 07/03/2005 11:51

awwww Moschops that would have made me cry too!!! how lovely

andif · 07/03/2005 12:28

Back from scan. Good result - went from background risk of 1:130 for my age, to actual risk of 1:670 so am pleased. Feeling bloody awful though - sick on and off all weekend, and feel like I've got the flu today so off to bed now. Could only just summon the energy to walk to the hospital. The scan was a bit surreal - sonographer and dh could see perfectly, but I was flat on my back so hardly saw a thing. Weirdly it has made it all seem less real, but maybe that's just the mood I'm in today. Ds1 will be delighted that he can now tell all his friends, won't affect ds2 as he's told everyone already! Couldn't tell sex, although I have a slightly convoluted theory that it's a girl - ds1 and ds2 were both small for dates at this stage, and a doctor friend told me that's more common with boys as so much growth goes into producing their willy at this stage!! This one was spot on dates, so you never know ........!(not that I mind really!!?)

Sallie · 07/03/2005 12:44

Glad all went well with your scan andif. I had mine for no 3 last week and feel odd about it all. Whereas with the other two, I carried around the scan piccies with me, I have just filed these away. Doesn't feel that real for me either. I hope that by 20 weeks I will feel differently. Maybe its because I am so busy with ds and dd and with house hunting and the like....? Its a really busy year for us. Never seem to pick a nice quiet year to be pregnant in!

YOKEFLEET · 07/03/2005 13:09

We have someone coming to view our house tonight at 8pm, so that means when I get home at 5.30 I won't be able to have my usual (usual during pg) snooze before hubby gets home at 6.30 as I will be running around like a nutter getting everything looking right, I feel sick already!!!

Sallie · 07/03/2005 13:40

Our house is under offer so fingers crossed all will proceed smoothly. Still feeling shattered but feel like the nausea is wearing off - although might just be having a good day today.
Very very busy week at work ahead. But had a great mother's day - lovely cards from dd and ds and a gorgeous pressie so have started off the week in a very positive manner.

andif · 07/03/2005 16:25

Good luck to all you brave house movers - we did it just over a year ago, and it took a good 6 mths to recover from the stress!! Can't imagine going through all that while pg! (Sorry if this sounds negative, sure you'll all be fine!)

pooka · 07/03/2005 18:44

We move the day after Easter Monday. Have done NOTHING but have paid the extra for the removals firm to come in and pack on the Tuesday before we move on the Wednesday.

Sallie · 08/03/2005 09:02

We aren't moving till June - need to find a house first!

PiccadillyCircus · 08/03/2005 09:07

We are moving a week on Friday . We have done nothing except for booking a removals company. They are coming round today with boxes. I am feeling a bit like we are mad but being in this house with two children would be even madder.

We have also bought another car as well (and it is an estate. The boot is massive).

Sallie · 08/03/2005 09:14

Will be interested to hear about what you think of your removal companies - any recommendations will be gratefully received. Best of luck to you all moving imminently. Are you moving within the same area or further afield?
Have my booking appointment tomorrow. Will be nice to see the midwives again and I am sure they will be surprised to see me again so soon after dd!
House hunting at the weekend. Am hoping we will find the one for us so that we can get things sorted and settle down into some semblance of normality until June. I am planning to go on mat leave at the end of May. The earliest I can start my leave is at 29 weeks and am finishing 4 weeks earlier than that by tacking some annual leave on the front. So only have about 12 weeks left at work, commuting on the tube etc etc which is a nice thought.

PiccadillyCircus · 08/03/2005 09:18

We're moving 5 miles away, but into a different county. We're also using a local removals firm so probably not too much help to you Sallie.

Not sure when I'm going to stop working yet - probably around the end of July and will put some annual leave towards it as well.

YOKEFLEET · 08/03/2005 10:16

After all the chasing about last night getting ready for the viewing they didn't turn up arrgghhh
We are planning in the short term to move into my parents empty house that they had rented out just round the corner from where we are now in Yorkshire, but we bought a house in Wales in November that we are currently renting out and we will look to move into that once I have finished work and my hubby has found a job down there.

LadyLazarus · 08/03/2005 10:24

Kiwicath - by the time I go to Woodfield Road, I will be 14weeks as well, so not sure if they will bother to do a scan...

I am going to be on the move too - just organising solicitors and surveys at the moment, so still early days. All very exciting tho!

When is everyone else thinking of starting their maternity leave? I read earlier in this thread that someone is starting at the end of May, which seems like a good time. I have 7 weeks' annual leave a year (yay for the NHS! the only perk haha) so might start that at the start of June/end of May, and then take the mat. leave straight after that. Not long to go!

Finally saw occupational health yesterday, they were very nice and very understanding. Hopefully my boss will listen to me now! fingers crossed!

Sallie · 08/03/2005 11:53

I am going on leave at the end of May because I am utterly exhausted with two little ones and working four days a week as a City lawyer. Add to that the house move and it seems like a very good idea. Will actually be only 25 weeks when I go on leave as then have 4 weeks of annual leave I am taking before my mat leave kicks in at 29 weeks (the earliest you can go off). Will be good to have some time with dd and ds before no 3 makes its appearance. Here's hoping for a nice (but not too hot!) summer!

easterchick · 08/03/2005 12:40

Hi everyone

I haven't had a lot to say for awhile but do read everyone's posts.

I have my first appointment with the midwife today. She's a different one from last time (thankfully) so it will be nice to meet her. I'm hoping I will hear the heartbeat.

I had a good few days of feeling like I was getting back to normal sickness wise. Yesterday I went into town and shopped for about 90 minutes, then, in the evening, I sorted out dd's clothes from the past 2 years. I think I overdid it. I ended up with a horrendous backache and then woke up this morning and vomited. Nice It's taken me down for the rest of the day and I have to admit I am still wearing my pyjamas I think I'll just about manage to get dressed for my midwife appointment this afternoon.

I'm 14 weeks tomorrow. When am I going to feel normal again?

beatie · 08/03/2005 12:45

Oops - that was me Beatie by the way+. I changed my nickname as I thought I was going to write a controversial post in Other Subjects about stag nights... but my post ended up being civil and tame.

zubb · 08/03/2005 13:56

talk of maternity leave already - blimey!

Being self employed mine is all self funded, so I'll work up to going into labour! Luckily as I work from home I can do that in my pj's! Dh is off all summer as he's a teacher so I don't even have to get dressed to take the kids to a childminder .
With ds2 I was working till 2 days before I had him, but that was 8 days late so I was really fed up!

zubb · 08/03/2005 13:57

beatie - has he decided what to do about the stag night?
