Bother. My links normally work .

jessysmummy · 23/02/2005 09:48

Errm...halfway between Liverpool and Southport you say...Know it VERY well...that's where I grew up... in good old Formby! Mum and Dad still live there.
(Sorry to be really boring to all you other "Due in Sept" gals!)

jessysmummy · 23/02/2005 09:59

Has anyone else found that birthdays seem to group around one particular month in their family? Mine's February - me, brother (actually same day as mine but 2 years apart - v weird!), DH, FIL all feb and dd1 end of Jan, sister, BIL and nephew beg jan, dad and other nephew beg of mar. Doesn't half play havoc with birthday presents, esp just after christmas! I've got lots of friends who's families are the same. I'm convinced that certain times of the year are fertile within families. So d?2 due in sept is really a big exception. Glad they'll be in good company though!

Beatie · 23/02/2005 10:30

Hi everyone. I haven't been on for a few days as I haven't had a lot to say.

A pushchair discussion... oooh! My favourite. I am pushchair obssessed and own 3

We started out with a Britax travel system/pram type thing. It the type where the body of the pram can lie flat - face forward or back and detaches from a nice bouncy chassis. The car seat can clip directly onto the chassis which was always useful for quick dashes into town.

My DD was a November baby so I loved having her all snuggly in a proper pram and I loved her facing me. When she was 7 months old we got a Maclaren Quest - which we equally love - but come winter - I got out the Britax again as it just seemed snugglier. And I still had her facing me, which I loved.

We bought an all-terrain 3-wheeler from ebay which has seen better days but was useful for when we went to farms or countryside walks. We're giving it to my brother as we tend to use a backpack more with DD (who is 2.2 now) but when this new baby is about 6 months old, we'll probably get rid of the Britax, buy a new 3 wheeler and use that and the Maclaren.

Add us to the list of mad people who are going to move house IN THE SUMMER! I dont even know where this baby will be born. DH is a teacher and applying for new jobs far and wide. We should hopefully know by Easter.

I was hoping to see my midwife this week and get booked in but she's on holiday for two weeks. When I see her I'll be one day shy of 14 weeks. Do you think that's too late? Should I get checked by my GP in the meantime? Scan is not until 16/17 weeks but I still wonder if I should be seen by someone before 14 weeks. What do you all think?

zubb · 23/02/2005 10:58

We did think about moving but have decided to build an extension instead - not sure which is worse! Planning permission has gone in so we should be able to get builders in in a few months.
I can forsee a summer of making endless cups of tea for builders, and then worrying that they won't be finished for September. Think if I tell them I'm having a home birth they'll make sure they're finished!

andif · 23/02/2005 11:03

Jessysmummy, there is a weird thing about family birthdays. Apparently it's quite common for members of a family to have similar date birthdays whatever the month - I'm 13th as is my Mum, and my Dad and brother are 11th 12th. Dh is 3rd as is ds2 -not same months, but still quite spooky. As this baby is due on 15th, maybe it will be a bit early, although that would be a first! In fact ds2's bday is 3rd Sept. For all you lucky people due around then, he's the most difficult member of our family - something in the stars?!! love him to bits though .
I think Sept is a dreadful month to have a baby - with ds2, I just felt I was beginning to get my act together, then the clocks went back and I seemed to spend all the time in darkness! At least by Christmas he was becoming human!! I really wanted a July/Aug baby this time, although as a teacher I should know better!!

Beatie, I think personally I would want to be seen before 14 wks, but I think you said you'd had an early scan, so there's probably no worry if you're not going for the nuchal anyway. My booking in isn't until 16 wks!

andif · 23/02/2005 11:07

zubb - to the home birth with builders!! When I was due with ds2 we were having a bathroom done. We were in a town house and bathroom was on top floor. Eventually I said to builders to help themselves to tea, as I couldn't face the climb and tea breaks reduced considerably!

PiccadillyCircus · 23/02/2005 11:08

Septmber is quite a busy month for birthdays in my family; I'm the 8th, cousin is the 15th, Aunt the 20th, my dad the 24th.

I was a lovely baby and am still lovely of course, so I am hoping DS2/DD will be just as nice .

DH and his brother are both in July and his mum and sister both in February (21st and today ).

And DH's birthday is the 1st, mine is the 8th, DS is the 22nd so there's a bit of a pattern there. Maybe DD/DS2 will be the 15th and fit in.

Back to work..................

zubb · 23/02/2005 11:12

andif unfortunatley we having a ground floor extension - dining room / study and the existing space changed to a new kitchen / utility and loo, so no stairs to give me an excuse! Also as I work from home I'll be having to deal with them / hear all the noise every day - it will drive me nuts
With the home birth bit telling them that I will more than likely have a baby within 2 hours of going into labour might focus their minds

PiccadillyCircus · 23/02/2005 11:13

Oh jessysmummy, it's not Formby where my family is (too posh ).

They're about 5 miles from Aintree (I feel I am being particularly obtuse about where they are - unlikely my mum would be using mumsnet although she was lookign at the mumsnet book in a bookshop recently).

Too much waffle - really must stop this .

jessysmummy · 23/02/2005 11:29

Well, have a safe journey up here tomorrow, PiccadillyCircus, especially since you've been feeling a bit icky.
No mention of m/s today...hope you're over the worst? I'm still suffering - just had some supanoodles and fighting to keep them down. Waiting for mum to arrive to take over with dd1 who is completely shattered and refusing to go to sleep and currently wrecking the lounge.
We had loads of builders in when I was suffering really badly with morning sickness with dd1. It wasn't planned that way but our bathroom died and needed an insurance job at the same time as work began on our conservatory. I ended up having an unplumbed toilet in the middle of my bedroom floor for 2 weeks! Needless to say I ended up moving out to my mums and leaving them all to it...
Good luck with all the building work, zubb!

Beatie · 23/02/2005 11:35

Andif - Yes - I had an early scan at 7 weeks 5 days so I have seen someone and something already.

PiccadillyCircus · 23/02/2005 12:13

Yes, been feeling SO much better today . No throwing up yet. Although yesterday had a horrendous 30 minutes involving liquids coming out of both ends almost simultaneously (much too much detail there but I was so glad no one else came into the toilets).

Maybe I have 10 weeks tomorrow therefore feel much better syndrome. Hope so (especially as I don't want to arrive at my mum and dads and need to throw up, nor do I want to throw up in a motorway service station with DS giggling).

More work needed....I appreciate this is a recurrant theme this morning. Although it is now the afternoon .

Beatie · 23/02/2005 12:47

PC - never too much information where pregnancy is concerned and have to admit that I have had that happen too.

franch · 23/02/2005 13:56

Oh PC - agree with Beatie, no such thing as TMI here - but I really do sympathise. Was only sick once myself yesterday though, and haven't vomited today yet, although I can't say I feel great.

maretta - you asked about travel systems - we got the Mamas & Papas Pliko thingy for DD, and don't like it much - heavy, bulky, not brilliantly designed. Would have got a Bugaboo I think if we'd known about them at the time (they are THE vehicle of choice on the streets of Islington these days - it's quite hilarious - DH and I play the equivalent of "Eddie Stobart" with them but it's too easy ).

jessysmummy - hello! Our DDs are the same age - what's your DD's birthday? Mine is 24 Jan.

Talking of birthdays, andif, did you say yours was 13 Sept? SNAP! The world can't ever have too many Virgos ....

Beatie, have you decided what to do about your appointments? I'd probably see my GP I guess, but then I'm like that.

Tallbird, hope to hear good news from you today

jessysmummy · 23/02/2005 14:24

Ditto on the both ends thing, PC, been there done that and never TMI.
Franch - dd1 is just one day older than yours - 23rd Jan. Funny that both d?2 will be near enough the same ages too!
Beatie - I think that if you need reassurance, go and see someone. But having had a scan you've got nothing to worry about really. Can't believe that no one is looking after the practice while your midwife is away anyway.

PiccadillyCircus · 23/02/2005 14:54

Oh we have the M&P Pliko and I like it. Maybe DS will learn to go on a buggy board with it....

Still haven't been sick yet today . And no other evacuations either

franch · 23/02/2005 15:18

Here's a stats thread link

jessysmummy, that's quite a coincidence isn't it? Wonder if you'll beat me to it by a day again this time?

PC, don't you find the straps very tight on the Pliko? Maybe we're doing something wrong but it seems like DD is about to outgrow them, which can't be right. Keep puzzling over this but can't work out what's wrong. I guess I might not be as unhappy with it if we didn't live in a 2nd-floor flat, but most of the time I use our McLaren Volo stroller, unless I want DD to have a good sleep or am doing lots of shopping

Piccalilli · 23/02/2005 15:22

Blimy there's a lot of us on here now.

Sorry to change the subject completely (although have been following pram discussions with interest!) - has anyone got any experience of incompetent cervix that they can share? I've had laser treatment and cone biopsy following abnormal smears and am worried there might be a risk. Has anyone been/knows anyone who's been in the same situation and what doctors have said?

Tallbird · 23/02/2005 15:24

Back from the scan, and feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders !
Went to the Fetal Medicine Centre in London, which was really excellent.
Results all look good - risk of Downs went from base risk for my age (37) of 1 in 121 to something around 1 in 2800 (better result than for DD 4 years ago), and despite previous history, risk of Edwards/Pataus went from 1 in 82 to around 1 in 1800, so feeling hugely relieved, and very glad not to need a CVS again ! Went for lunch after to celebrate, and had a glass of wine (must be feeling better if taste for wine has come back).
Hope everyone else is doing well.

jessysmummy · 23/02/2005 15:31

Tallbird - congrats on the good scan
Piccalilli - sorry no experience of incompetent cervix but there must be a thread on MN somewhere about it

franch · 23/02/2005 15:31

Great news Tallbird!

OP posts:
zubb · 23/02/2005 15:36

great news Tallbird - sounds like a much needed glass of wine

Piccalli - try starting a new thread asking about incompetent cervixes as someone will know something but might not look on here.

PiccadillyCircus · 23/02/2005 15:36

Excellent news Tallbird .

And thank you for the link franch - must remember to preview

diane77 · 23/02/2005 15:48

hi all
just home after a long morning at work never been so glad to get home as the snow is falling so heavily the roads a chaos!
Just wondering i took my dd to gp yesterday she has a cough for 4 weeks spiking temps and just not well explained this to doc and all she did was ask if i wanted an antibiotic she didnt even look at dd, i was so angry i asked her to please listen to dd chest first to see if this was ok before she palmed me off with an antibiotic, as it turned out her heart was racing a little so thought she was fighting something so was given antibiotic but im mad anyone else experienced anything like this?
