Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Kiwicath · 28/02/2005 11:59

Phew!! Just caught up on the last week or so of goss. My littlin has had giardia for the past 7 days and then I got it or another bug just after. Been feeling bloody awful and lost over 4 kgs. This is the 1st day I've been out of bed for the past 4 days. Luckily my hubby has a week off so has taken over the reigns. I was suppose to fly up to Cairo for my nucal scan today but just couldn't bare the thought of getting caught short - public toilets are a definite no go area!!!! Going on Wed so should be ready and rearing by then.

Congrates to all the scanees and the new comers. Andif, I so know what you mean by worrying ie scans, birth, cotdeath etc .... it's never ending. I was warned before I got pregnant and I thought "yeah, yeah". Never thought I was a paranoid type person but my mind is constantly filled with "what if's" - DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

Sallie · 28/02/2005 12:37

This will be my third child and you don't worry any less. In fact, I think I have worried more each pregnancy if that makes sense. Am doubly worried because of what happened to my sister....good luck to everyone else scanning this week.

andif · 28/02/2005 13:04

What does everyone fancy eating at the moment? I have a bit of a thing for toast and marmalade (never usually in my repertoire!), but have just stuffed a whole bag of cashew nuts and feel sooooo sick now! Ocado just delivered my weekly shop and I nearly threw up looking at all that food as I put it away!

Sallie - I agree that worry doesn't get better - in fact I think I'm far worse with no.3 as I think I'm pushing my luck!

PiccadillyCircus · 28/02/2005 13:29

I am tucking into jacket potato and cheese as I type.

Had a sudden urge for pickled onions so bought some from Tescos. Had a couple (cocktail size) in the car as I am sure that eating them at my desk would give away my pregnant status .

Never really had cravings with DS but just then I HAD to have those pickled onions.

zubb · 28/02/2005 13:39

Hello all, it's been busy on here! Sorry that some of you are still feeling so bad, hope it eases up soon.

I had my scan this morning, dates just about match - would have done if they could get a full head to bum measurement but the head was slightly raised. Saw little one move around and wave which is always great. Appointment was a lot quicker this time as I didn't have to see a doctor at all unlike last couple of times, and on this scan they gave me a photo - which is different from last times as well. I'm really pleased at getting a photo actually as it will make it more 'real' for dh, as he usually has to wait for the 20 week scan before he can see / hear anything. Do your partners go along with you to the early scans? It does always seem like I'm the only one on my own at them, as people without their partners there do seem to have their Mums with them.

Piccalilli · 28/02/2005 13:48

Andif - for me it's sweets, fruity ones e.g. Skittles, Fruit Pastilles, Haribo...I'm going to be the size of a house by the time tis baby's born. Also craving pasta a lot - must be a carbohydrate thing.

PiccadillyCircus · 28/02/2005 13:48

Glad your scan went well Zubb .

My scan is on Friday and DH almost definitely won't be there as he is involved with interviewing at work which he won't be able to get out of.

I don't really mind about him not being there - it would be nice if he were but it's not the most important thing. I am worrying that things won't be all right but that wouldn't change if he were there.

Beatie · 28/02/2005 14:11

Picallili - I'm all about sweet stuff too. Thankfully that includes fruit but I am eating a chocolate bar nearly every day and the other day I had wine gums and a packet of skittles. ooooh, those skittles wetn down very well. You get a lot in the packet don't you?

I feel embarassed buying my sweetie loot whilst I have dd with me in the pushchair as I suspect everyone thinks this lot os for her! No, mummy keeps it all for herself!

jessysmummy · 28/02/2005 14:25

Hi Gals!
Congrats on good scan for you Zubb and good luck to sallie and anyone else who's up for it today.
Am trying to cheer myself up after a very ill weekend. To make matters worse it was my birthday on Saturday and after managing to drag myself out of the house for the first time in a week for lunch I spent the rest of the weekend puking So it's another week away from the office and on the sofa for me. Complete sympathy to all of you who are still suffering like me but very happy to hear that some of you are recovering - gives me hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Andif - foodwise nothing seems to appeal - see above! I keep sending DH out for things but by the time he gets back I've gone off them. Can't even seem to find anything that I can drink at the moment, either. Sorry to moan so just wish there was something we could take to make us feel better like "resolve" or "Pregger-Seltza"!

Beatie · 28/02/2005 14:32

"I keep sending DH out for things but by the time he gets back I've gone off them"

Ditto to that JM. Also, I hear you on the drink thing. It's water or water here. I was sick after drinking blackcurrant so cannot drink squash now. I have the occasional fizzy drink because of the sweetness but it makes me so bloated. I don't usually drink fizzy stuff when not pregnant though.

jessysmummy · 28/02/2005 14:34

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I had a really weird "episode" in the car on saturday. Don't know if it is pregnancy related but it really freaked me out. My hands started tingling, you know like sometimes when you are really dehydrated...but worse. As I've not been able to get a lot of fluids down just recently I just thought that that's what it was. But then both my hands when into "pincers" and ceased up. I couldn't move them at all for about 5 mins until my mum managed to rub some life back into them. Anyone else had similar experience?

jessysmummy · 28/02/2005 14:40

Oh Beattie - same for me on blackcurrant and any cordial for that matter. I actually couldn't drink still water last time I was pregnant and it looks like that's happening again. Fizzy drinks seem slightly better for me too, although like you I don't usually drink them. It's so weird how you go off things even if they should be good for you. And even stranger how immediately after that little bundle pops out you're back to normal (taste-wise anyway). I really can't wait for that...28 weeks to go...

YOKEFLEET · 28/02/2005 16:18

Glad to hear your scans are all going well
I haven't had a date for mine yet I can't wait!!!
I'm really off my food at the moment and have been since week 5 will be 10w tomorrow and hubby is concerned as I have lost more then 1/2stone in that time but spoke to mw and as I thought it won't do me any harm as I am very well upholstered anyway (14 1/2st) this weekend I managed hot cross buns and that was about it. As for drinking I am sticking with water as everything has this metally taste yuk!! Any suggestions ladies??

Beatie · 28/02/2005 16:22

Yokefleet - hot cross buns are good. I cannot stomach bread but manage to get my fatty carb sin with hot cross bun consumption. I too have lost a lot of weight - 9 lbs. I am sure I'll make up for it once I feel well again.

pooka · 28/02/2005 19:04

I've not lost any weight - but still very very picky with food. Am virtually vegetarian as the idea of meat/fish just turns my stomach. But have also gone off vegetables. So my big thing now are mozarella, tomato and avocado salads and M&S ready made porridge. Still feeling terribly guilty about not being as dynamic in the kitchen as used to be, and dd subsisting on quick cook smell free foods.
Booking in appointment tomorrow. Have splitting head ache

franch · 28/02/2005 19:22

Hi all, just catching up - Beatie I do hope you're feeling better by now, I identified with everything you said; likewise jessysmum and anyone else still feeling awful. I actually managed a vomit-free weekend and managed to eat relatively well, so things are obviously getting better, slowly but not very surely ... puked twice today and am utterly wiped out.

Have got used to having lots of help all the time but have a whole WEEK on my own with DD as of Wed - the first stretch like that for a couple of months - I feel as apprehensive as I did when I was first left on my own with her as a newborn - I'm not sure I know what to do with her any more or, more importantly, if I can cope!

Glad to hear about the good scan, zubb; Sallie, how did yours go?

andif, I just had a look at TopShop maternity online - have you seen they have a new FREE service called TopShop To Go, where a personal shopper will come TO YOUR HOME with loads of stuff for you to try on??? Anywhere within M25! Very tempting - I should organise a MN TopShop To Go party when I feel better, shouldn't I?!

pooka · 28/02/2005 20:40

My goodness Franch - that sounds brilliant! THey come to your HOUSE!! Fantastic!
Another thing I've been kind of craving, but am trying to resist as far as possible, is full caffeine sugar loaded coca cola. NOT good, but it really seems to help. And only in very small doses, so.....hey ho.
I almost dread the weds - fri home time (work mon - tues). The days seem so long, particularly when it is as cold and generally miserable outside that I feel like hibernating. But dd is uttely enchanting, if I say so myself, and is really becoming a proper toddler rather than a baby now - suddenly talking loads, capable of being bargained with, and just generally being fab. So that's a blessing really. COuld be much much much worse.
Anyway - time to collapse on the sofa.

pooka · 28/02/2005 20:41

Oh and so sorry you've been ill, Kiwicath. What rotten luck. Hope your scan goes well on Wednesday.

milward · 28/02/2005 21:04

Hello all - I'm having small sips of cocacola as well - the caffine free type. Just hits the spot. Got some super isabelle oliver clothes & some from Formes as well. My local H&M doesn't stock maternity! Will look at jojo maman bebe - anyone tried these?

franch · 28/02/2005 21:45

I've just placed an Isabella Oliver order too, milward - and one to JoJo and one to Hommebody (weird name)... The Formes stuff is lovely as well, isn't it? My BEST pg dress was from them last time round - I felt fabulous in it. Still on the lookout for the perfect maternity jeans - will try Next first I think as they have a good selection, although the best pair I found last time was from Blooming Marvellous I think.

Funny - last time I was very careful not to buy too many maternity clothes, only to get basics, to wear suitable non-maternity stuff where possible, etc etc. You'd think this time I'd be even more canny, but I'm much more like 'What the hell, I need to look good! And I've been sick and living in pyjamas for 2 months! I deserve major treats!"

Thanks for the advice, have looked on the maternity alliance site and am going to go into my meeting armed with a printout. They know i am pregnant but they haven't had a formal letter yet as the personnel department told me I had to wait till 15 weeks before i could have a meeting with the personnel manager and gat my maternity pack, I think i am going to query this though as it seems a bit odd. You wouldn't believe i work for a major supermarket chain that is supposed to be voted best employer of the year for the last 3 years would you? Community midwife was much better and has allayed all my fears and given me some excellent advice. However i have to watch my weight, i have lost over a stone since becomming pregnant this time and no i am not stupid enough to be on a diet. Well I suppose i can afford to lose it as i was nearly 14 stone which is a fair amount of weight to carry round at five foot seven. My normal clothed have been uncomfortable for a couple of weeks now and i have been sneaking into my dungarees and maternity trousers. I figure that as it is not my 1st pregnancy may be my muscles don't work as well as they used to so that is why i seem to be getting so much bigger so soon. To look at me you wouldn't know that i have actually lost weight because of the way my body shape is changing!!!!

mummyhill · 01/03/2005 09:16

Im here again. I am confused, i have just been reading my mat notes as something had been buggung me and i wasn't sure what, I have now worked it out. My scan was an early on and they said that i would be 9 weeks when i went for it going by my lmp. When i got there they said i was 10+2 so that made me further along than they thought so why have they given me a due date 2 days later than the one calculated from lmp when it should theoretically put me a week sooner which means that i am not sure wether i should be here or on the August thread now. What do you think? Student midwife tried to tell me i was just comming up to 12 yesterday but i know full well from the scan details i am 13 weeks today are they deliberatly trying to confuse me?

Sallie · 01/03/2005 09:35

Scan went fine - risk factor a bit increased on last time, but thats because I am a year older I guess. Still, baby has a good strong heartbeat and was wriggling around a lot. Couldn't really tell the sex although couldn't see anything between the legs. Will see if dh can scan me in about 4 weeks time when we might be able to see more clearly! Glad yours went well zubb. Thought I was starting to turn the corner from m/s but feel awful today - nauseous, tired and headachey.

LadyLazarus · 01/03/2005 09:56

Glad people's scans are going well... I'm not in the slightest bit jealous that I don't get one til 20 weeks!!!

As for cravings, now I am past the bulk of the sickness, I have been fancying cup a soups, lentil dahl and veggie samosas, mint and chocolate chip ice cream ... but no gherkins as yet !!
